#3 I do enjoy Rantburg's snark, and Gaddafi is indeed a grotesque and cartoonish character (like Hitler, Kim Jong Il, Mussolini, Mao ect) but on a more serious note:

Gaddafi has officially stated his intent to murder hundreds if not thousands of Europeans in acts of state sponsored terrorism.

He is doing this because he believes his attacks on the US in the 80s were ultimately successful, as was 9/11 since it resulted in an "African Muslim Brother" becoming the "ruler" of the US.
