#1 First of all, there are speed limits all over the Autobahn, based on road conditions, temporary and permanent. But more importantly, there is a *subjective* speed limit that is a killer.

If the police think that you are "driving faster than the safe speed of your vehicle", and thus creating a hazard, they will pull you over and give you a ticket that will knock your socks off.

There are a few automobile offenses in Germany that have obscenely high fines, and this is one of them. Thousands of Euros. They aren't kidding.

But it sounds like this guy is just another eco-scoundrel.

#2 Actually not that obscene. The highest fine for speeding would be 475 euros, and a three month suspension of your license.

#3 If I recall correctly, if the police pull you over while driving drunk, they take your license. You can figure out how to get to work for the rest of your life after you sober up. To the Germans, driving is a privilege, not a right.
