#2 Indeed, Steyn rules. A mixture of shudders and howlers. Ridicule seems the only outlet at the moment since voters keep sending power whores like Kerry back. The remaining possibile solutions guarantee the sinktrap.

#3 John Kerry can't do any real harm in the Senate, other than the occasional obnoxious headline -- and it's not as if his constituency would elect someone more conservative if they could. As a potential presidential candidate he serves nicely to siphon off funds from Democrats more likely to actually win.
