#4 I knew a Chicago cop who told me a goof tried to rob a bar he didn't know was a police hangout.

Everybody in the bar had a gun and he was quickly subdued.

Later, the writers of Hill Street Blues used the incident in an episode.

#5 Even if they were off duty, why were they unarmed? Do they think that any criminals out to get them will try it only when the cops are on duty?

U.S. cops carry their guns all the time, on duty or off.
