SOME people get arrested for a cause — Edward Furlong just got busted for some claws. The "Terminator 2" actor was locked up Wednesday night in northern Kentucky for "alcohol intoxication in a public place" after he tried to liberate a group of lobsters from a local grocery store's fish tank. Furlong, a longtime animal-rights supporter who once refused to wear leather in a Calvin Klein ad, pulled the crustacean caper with friends at Meijer grocery store in Florence, Ky., according to a police report. "The above and his friends were taking lobsters out of the tanks, when they were asked not to, they began to argue with management," reads the report. When cops tried to frisk Furlong, "He put his arms above his head and started spinning around," an eyewitness tattled to PAGE SIX's Lisa Marsh.
Furlong is on location for the filming of a movie called "Jimmy & Judy," by first-time directors Jon Schroder and Randall Rubin. Schroder bailed Furlong out of jail after only three hours behind bars, and the actor was back on the movie's set yesterday. It's what, 600 miles, to the nearest ocean? I wonder what Furlong thought the critters would do once they were loose? It doesn't matter to him, they would have been "free"----free lunch for the stray cats of the community that is.

The kid was "discovered" by a casting agent in some video arcade, as I recall, and then cast as the young John Connors in "Terminator 2". Nothing but pure dumb luck got him into show business. Lack of talent and pure stupidity will get him out of it.

He was the young John Conners in T2, and he was in Detroit Rock City. He's not a bad actor as long as he stays within his narrow range. They considered him for T3 but the insurance company wouldn't insure him because of his drug problem.
He was the up and coming new stud actor and he pissed the whole thing away because he had no brains.
You want to save Larry the Lobster dial 1-900-720-1808. If you want to kill him dial 1-900-720-1809. Now unless you call in to save him, we're going to boil Larry's little butt right here on national television. Now you call in. The phone company is going to charge you fifty cents, but isn't it worth fifth cents to save Larry's life? Or look at it this way: Isn't it worth half a buck to see us boil Larry on TV?

I didn't see Larry The Lobster but didn't it end up where somebody made a claim that black people don't like lobster so Eddie Murphy cooked him and ate him just to prove them wrong?

I just remembered that when Burt Blyleven was a pitcher for the Angels, he bought a live lobster on a road trip to Boston, and was leading it around on a leash. He named it "Sparky"

Forty-six Brazilian policemen traveling to a sports competition were caught with their guard down this week when four Brazilian thieves robbed the bus carrying them to the event. The bus with 46 unarmed policemen from northeastern Paraiba state was headed to the city of Salvador in Bahia when two cars with armed robbers forced them to stop on the country's main interstate highway on Tuesday. "The robbers took their cameras, cellular phones, wallets and even the sports uniforms and sneakers," a police spokesman said.
The suspects, who escaped, apparently did not know the bus was full of police when they stopped it, he said. "We are looking for them, but I cannot say there's any particular ardor here due to the fact that policemen have been robbed."

In a country already plagued by skyrocketing sick leave costs, a new survey found that 40 percent of the population thinks it's acceptable to skip work because they feel tired or have trouble getting along with their colleagues. The survey, presented Friday by the National Social Insurance Board, showed that Swedes manifestly take advantage of the country's liberal sick leave system, officials said. Sixty-five percent of the 1,002 people interviewed also said that a stressful work situation is also a valid reason for calling in sick. The survey shows "a deep lack of knowledge about what the health insurance is meant to cover," board director Anna Hedborg said of Sweden's 9 million residents. Alf Eckerhall, a social insurance expert with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, went a step further: many Swedes are deliberately abusing the system. "The insurance laws clearly state that inability to work because of illness" is the only valid reason to stay home, Eckerhall said. "The key word is 'inability to work' - not 'illness.'"
But paying for workers on long-term sick leave and disability has become one of the government's biggest expenditures. Sick leave compensation tripled from 15 billion kronor ($2 billion) in 1997 to 45 billion kronor ($6 billion) in 2002.
In Sweden, the employer pays for the first three weeks' sick leave and workers can call in sick for seven days before needing a doctor's certificate or medical proof. People who call in sick do not receive any compensation for the first day they are absent. But Eckerhall said many are abusing the current system by leaving work and calling in sick shortly before their work day is over. That then counts as one sick day, which lets them start receiving sick pay the next day. "That means your day without compensation was 15 minutes long," Eckerhall said. "Medically speaking, that sounds pretty odd." Hedborg said the board will launch a massive nationwide campaign to inform people that only illness is a valid reason to stay home from work, she said. "To many, this message may seem hard and even insensitive," she wrote. "The truth is that if we don't defend our common insurance today, we won't be able to afford keeping it."

My favorite: I recently heard about a European employee (not in Sweden, however), who, in the middle of a typical long summer vacation, was sick for a couple of weeks; they were able to suspend their vacation time, put in for sick leave until they "got better", and continue their vacation after that from when they left off.
Sweet deal.

Dane Squires was late for his own funeral. At least it seemed that way after people gathered Thursday at a Toronto funeral home to mourn the retired welder from Newfoundland whom they believed had been hit by a train. Relatives of Squires were watching the casket being loaded into a hearse when his daughter Trina was told she had an important phone call. Her father was on the other end. "She totally, totally lost it," Squires' brother Gilbert said.
"She said, `There's a ghost talking to me on the phone. Please somebody try to make sense out of this because I'm losing my mind.'" Squires was initially identified as the man who was hit by a commuter train last Friday night. The body was badly mutilated in the accident but still fit Squires' description, police said. Authorities haven't yet identified the victim. "He went to my sister's house and whoever answered the door fainted," said Gilbert Squires, noting his brother didn't become aware of the confusion until he read his own obituary in the newspaper. Squire's sister identified the dead man as her brother after viewing the body at the coroner's office this week, police said.
