#4 Without the right to freely criticize those in power, any pretentions to freedom of the press are just that, pretentions.

The powerful universally hate and fear criticism, as the one true way their power can be reduced--any other means can be corrupted, coopted, subverted or bought.

So where does the free press truly exist? Brussels has taken it away from Europe, Russia lost its little flicker of truth, and even England now uses a perverse slander law to steal away this right.

Remember this the next time you hear of universal human rights, and think of how few there are that have them--and how all of the powerful claim that their people have them.
