#1 Hope they'll make it out ok, I've got a soft touch for guys from Nepal. hopefully, they won't be eaten, like thoses pygmies or that couple of peacekeepers besieged in a jungle outpost.

#2 You mean, "soft spot," a5089 dear. A soft touch is someone who gives aid (usually money) to anyone with a sad story -- me, f'r instance, much to Mr. Wife's dismay. ;-)
