#1 Get the extra troops in there while the bad guy is still in front of you. Or you can get them in there later and deal with them when they're behind you, too.

#2 The terrers had the American's number and it was something they didn't want to come up against anytime soon. However, all that whiny and handwringing that's been coming out of Eurasia about the WOT, they thought you boys would be an easier push over. So they came out to play. The NATO crowd saw the American performance, and clean up on aisle 3, and thought 1) the heavy job had already been done and 2) if the Yanks could do it so easily, so could they. Surprise. Maybe we'll hear a lot less talk, though I doubt it, by some [pick your favorite nationality] general criticing American military performance in the future.

#3 Stingy buggers, these NATO countries on defense. Now perhaps the appearance of materiel and manpower lackings may send themselves a message. All those years of depending on Uncle Sam's umbrella.
