#4 As I've said before: Supply and demand. It's not just a good idea, it's the law. If you force prices to be low, below the production and distribution costs, the supply will dry up, unless the demand drops.

#6 Chavez knows nothing about inventory control. Now that he has given fair warning, all the food chains and transport companies will overnight convert to a "push" supply system. Instead of keeping large supplies at distribution points, they will only ship based on daily need, warehousing outside of the country.

This means that only very perishables, stuff that lasts under two weeks, like milk, will be warehoused in any amount. Everything else will have to be paid for in cash before it even enters the country.

So as soon as he announces, and you know he will, the nationalization of the food supply network, he will end up with empty stores, warehouses, any trucks that haven't been driven out of the country first, and enough perishables for two weeks.

Basically, within a month, there will be no food in the country. And when he demands more, they will not only demand that he pay cash on the barrel head, but that he make good on the cost of all those empty stores and warehouses he took, before he gets squat.

Hopefully, they will tell him as a group to go fish, and give Venezuela the choice: either get rid of "el Supremo", and give us back our stuff, or starve.

What about what Hugo's trying? No reeducation camps and secret police but the economic outcome appears very similar. Without oil to prop him up he'd have turned Venezuela into Cuba by now.

It would be more fair to say he has no idea how to run even the most rudimentary sort of economy, except into the ground.
