#1 He didn't mention the Shia militia by name.

While it is wonderful that the Sunnis almost entirely rejected AlQ; the Shias have not, as far as I know, rejected the Madhi or Badr thug groups
(although there have apparently been some anti Iran rumblings).

It seems to me that until the Shia reject these demons robustly, Iraq will not survive when we leave.

#2 We need to control the borders. Without that, terrorists and militants will continue the fight from Iran and Syria until Iraq collapses. Iraq may need to become a police state in order to remain free. The irony....

#4 RWV, I would respectfully disagree: we will be able to more easily control Iraq's borders that our own, after all our Congress critters don't have to campaign for re-election in Iraq.....

#5 The problem is perception of our will. Rank and file Iraqis are understandably reluctant to back our efforts if they perceive we will be bailing out in a few months and leave them hanging. Again. They remember what happened to the Shia who followed our lead in 1991 only to be slaughtered when we left.

Thank the good folks here at home for all their help convincing the Iraqis that they should work with us - Sen. Schumer, you must sleep well knowing IEDs were not reported because of your statements.
