#1 Somewhere in the West, a simple minded leftist is thinking, "He can't be al-Qaeda. He was fighting India in Kashmir for a pro-Pakistani group, which has nothing to do with al-Qaeda. After all, al-Qaeda fights the US because of its policies, so he must have nothing to do with al-Qaeda. Besides, no religious zealot would ally himself with a secular military dictator! It's incontheivable!"

At least my imagined leftist would have the virtue of a consistent, if inane, set of principles with which to understand the world.
