#1 Now we really want to kill you

... but we know you'd hand us our asses in a trice, so we'll keep killing random strangers!

#2 Abu Baqr Charlie
Abu Baqr Charlie

Sorry, couldn't resist. Also, just for style reference ... a person called Abu Baqr would not be shortened to just Abu unless as a sign of respect. Abu means basically "father" so Abu Baqr would be something like "Father of cow" ... so I wonder if that isn't some crafty Arab playing a little joke on a reported feeding him "bullshit".

It is common practice to use Abu to assign almost nicknames to people. It is almost never their real name.

#4 See FREEREPUBLIC > IRANIAN HEADLINERS CRITICIZE KHATAMI - DEBATE/CONTROVERSY OVER "EXPORTING THE REVOLUTION".

Perhaps ABU BAQR can talk wid NORTH KOREA about how sovereign and independent from China they are.

#5 Actually, "Father of Cattle" might be a more accurate description. And in the old days it would have been to signify one of wealth.

#6 Abu isn't too bright.

Abu isn't too bright. Seems to be a malady in this part of the world. They suffer from "cantfigureoutwhoyourrealfriendsare_itis."

#7 He still hates Iran. But now, he said, he accepts its weapons to fight the U.S. military, figuring he can deal with his distaste for the Iranians later.

There are plenty of angry people, but he's not really channeling his anger in the right direction. These guys are nothing compared to VC.

but even now he hints he is ready to strike a truce on honorable terms with the U.S. military if it agrees to halt its operations against the militia in Baghdad.

#8 "Father of cattle"

Fascinating, crosspatch. More interesting translations as they come up, please -- because it helps to understand the culture, and because I'm greedy to learn such things. :-)
