#1 The PKK began 30 years ago as a marxist-nationalist movement but the marxist part has nearly vanished.

They also are heavily involved in the drug trade.

Notwithstanding this, many of the Kurdish population support them, at least in part. Some of this support is the result of the heavy handed turkish discrimination.
