#1 ...My understanding is that the ROC is also evacuating its citizens, as the good people of Vietnam are apparently not being discriminating in their ire.

And the PRC should remember - though it's unlikely they will - that Vietnam handed them their asses back in '79, IIRC. This may call for some industrial quantities of Red on Red(TM) brand popcorn.....

#2 Yes they did hand them their asses, but those soldiers do not exist now. They were tough and hardened, but they are now old and retired just like our Vietnam vets. Now they are a peace time army used only to control their indigenous population, and the chinks have modernized their army while RVA, not so much.
