#2 It was, yes indeedy do. From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli...

I'll even go so far as to say we can thank the rather Islamic Barbary pirates for the creation of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. Thanks, Barbary pirates!

“We took the liberty to make some enquiries concerning the ground of their pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation.

The Ambassador [of Tripoli] answered us that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.

{Letter from the commissioners, John Adams & Thomas Jefferson, to John Jay, 28 March 1786}

Obama is right.

#11 Well, the Barbary Muslims pushed the U.S. to form a world class navy, so we should thank them. I guess.

#12 The only way Islam could conceivably be even indirectly related to the early US in any substantive fashion is the hypothetical use of "Musselmen" in Madison-Jefferson thought-experiment exchanges on the subject of toleration vs. proper religious freedom. There wasn't even a mosque in the country until 1915, at the tail end of the "Great Migration".

#13 {Letter from the commissioners, John Adams & Thomas Jefferson, to John Jay, 28 March 1786}

And Rep. Keith Ellison used Jefferson's copy of the Koran for his swearing in.

Basically a subtle 'F.U.'

#14 Yes, thrums are a hastle.

The risk of trading through or around dar islam was so great, people in rickety ships sailed off the edge of the world looking for alternate trade routes to China. The New World was discovered.

The relentless expansion of the Ottoman Empire, required by their law for the glory of islam, wrecked the European Mediterranian population. The Barbary States, which had been ports for slave raiders, became vassel/clients of the Ottomans under Suliuman the Magnificent, led by Barbarossa and receiving aid from Suliuman. This was the 16th century.

#15 What amazes me is that people just don't call BS at such patently obvious lies. This narcissist is increasingly just asserting what he wants to be true with no connection to fact.

#16 Making false statements (18 U.S.C. § 1001) is the common name for the United States federal crime laid out in Section 1001 of Title 18 of the United States Code, which generally prohibits knowingly and willfully making false or fraudulent statements, or concealing information, in "any matter within the jurisdiction" of the federal government of the United States, even by mere denial.[1] A number of notable people have been convicted under the section, including Martha Stewart,[2] Rod Blagojevich,[3] Scooter Libby,[4] Bernard Madoff,[5] and Jeffrey Skilling.[6]

This statute is used in many contexts. Most commonly, prosecutors use this statute to reach cover-up crimes such as perjury, false declarations, and obstruction of justice and government fraud cases.[7]

Even constitutionally explicit Fifth Amendment rights do not exonerate affirmative false statements.[8] As the Court in Brogan v. United States said:[9]
