#2 I could write the script for a pretty good Peter Sellers movie about this. It would involve a man with a beard on one side of his face who has to twist his head in order to satisfy whomever he might be talking to.

Our family Marine stated that all you had to do was look at their shoes to make an educated guess. The locals wore flip-flops or beat-up sneakers and the 'suddenly ex' military wore good hiking shoes, steel-toe work shoes or combat boots.
