#3 My own take, with nothing but Occam's Razor and an inherent suspicious nature, is only ONE person is powerful enough to create an inconclusive investigation of itself by the court and let it be put to bed. The Chief Justice who just wanted to leak it to see how catastrophic it might be.

#4 Occam’s Razor would indicate it was the most Pro-Choice Justice. From the statements made by the lib justices, Clarence Thomas may have recommended an in house investigation to protect the institution.
