#1 They restrain the rioters with zip ties, OK, but they must be exercising a great deal of restraint on themselves if that's all they do.

Agreed. And then the Frogs will dismiss the rioters, who'll riot again, and then they'll all be deaders the next time around. Ship them all back to Algeria and maybe this shit doesn't happen the next time around.

#3 Curious and curiouser. Historically the Bretons, and Lorient is in Brittany, have been a distinct subculture from 'metropolitan France'. The natives could be showing their 'displeasure' at Algerian and/or Black Block hijinks.

Alternatively it could be a RAB-like phenomena(?). per Wikipedia: Naval Commandos (Commando Marine): the special forces of the French Navy. Accordingly, it is one of the most selective units among the French armed forces, equivalent in their mission and affiliation to Navy SEALs or British Special Boat Service. Five out of the six existing naval commandos[38] are based in Lanester, just across the Scorff river from Lorient. The Naval Fusilier & Commando Training School is also based here.

#4 Member of the "brigade anticasseur" (anti-thug brigade) before changing into civilian attire ?

No, I had it wrong. Not the legion. Per a friend on the continent I was informed that "The events tookplace in Lorient, home of the Commandos-Marine (Navy Commandos, basically Navy Special Forces) and the Fusiliers-Marins (Naval Infantry). Nothing to do with the Foreign Legion."

#5 restraining the individual with "visibly well-honed technique", as well as punching a rioter in the face.

Marines, water, public safety,...
Not unreasonable to project these could be a unit of the Maritime Gendarmerie on provost duty.

#6 A front man for the Maritime Commandos force stationed at the base is reported to have denied any knowledge of their people being involved.

As always, should you or any of your IM Force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

#8 You know, I recall a couple of days ago, when this whole dance kicked off, that they said they were going to send 'police and special forces' to deal with it. Sounds like they arrived.

#9 Vigilantism is what you get when gummint fails to do its job. As the rioters are the gummint's pets, gummint will of course fail to do its job.

#10 The French get one right -

France’s Supreme Court rejects groups’ request for slavery reparations

The court’s decision on Wednesday said that no individual produced evidence showing they had “suffered individually” any damage from the crimes that their ancestors had been subjected to.

#11 By using 'vigilantes' to do this, they claim any 'accidental' deaths are not the government's fault. Plausible deniability

#13 It would be interesting to know the Soros take on the riots. If he is funding BLM equivalent groups against the Macron government, it would be to promote the need for an eventual crackdown and permanent martial law.

#14 Nothing to do with the Foreign Legion."

While you may have been wrong, Besoeker, you were not wrong wrong. They were members of an organized club of lads with some experience in the arts martial. Like football hooligans or Marines.

#15 What struck me was how unharmed the detainees were. Vigilantes usually club people unconscious or the people show up having "falling down a few staircases while cuffed"...

#16 That's why I suspect they are police or actual military, but NOT the Legion, cause then they would have been roughed up.
