...Not exactly.

The Marines - being Marines - celebrate the ball except under combat or imminent combat conditions, and even then they find a way to at least get some cake or other treats to the guys.

This ball, however, is in CENTCOM - that lovesome spot we know as the Middle East and Persian Gulf. Taking Marines off the line for any reason, and gathering them into one or more easily located spaces would be a massive security and safety risk, all the more so for a service that just observed the anniversary of the Beirut bombing. This was the right call.

#2 The phrase ‘unforeseen operational commitments’ is a bit disturbing. Don't they have people whose job is to foresee operational commitments. Seems like a handy thing to at least think about.

#6 General Kurilla, USA, with a genuine command resume, is based in Tampa. Nov 10th will be a good night to enjoy dinner out there. Pretty sure others around the world will enjoy the evening just like 247 times before!
