#2 ^Not sure. I think we should try removing Arabic influence from Islam before giving up on it. Once there is Quaran in local language, the locals will start noticing things.

Are the written versions mutually intelligible? Various speakers of Chinese dialects can communicate in writing (and sometimes even by writing in the air with a finger).

Fair enough. Mr. Wife was taught Arabic by a West Banker at Berlitz, which was fine in Saudi Arabia, but while the written language is the same across the Arab world, in Morocco he had to resort to his high school French to be understood.

Exactly like Chinese in China, Elmaper McGurque1612. Except instead of pictograms, Arabic uses letters to make up their words, but reading it aloud is not related to sounding out the letters. It’s no wonder so many are illiterate!

#7 Anon1 has a point in that many attempts have been made, in the past 1000 years, to defang Islam.

However, that was then and this is now. Back in March 2023 the Islamic Fatwah Council issued an anti Hamas Fatwah. Before that national councils in Saudi Arabia and the Emirates issued anti Muslim Brotherhood statements (not quite Fatwahs). So there is some momentum in the de fanging direction.

IMO, once Islam loses its fangs, it pretty much loses a lot of its power and becomes, maybe not a nothingburger but close to it.

And once it loses its fangs, Muslims can critically exam its scriptures (plenty of translations exist not just of the Quran but the Haditha, the Sunna and other works) and see the major problems (there are many of these).
