#1 El Daein is located about 500 miles from Khartoum. It is the capital of the state of East Darfur, created in January 2012. The region was once known as a homeland to the Arab Rizayqat tribe. Over the centuries clashes with the Fur of eastern Darfur were common. That the RSF has taken control of Daein is significant insofar as it provides another indication that Arab Khartoum leadership is fast losing control over its eastern provinces.
