There are so many of them, and different as well.

And now with the new firewall rule, they can't initiate a connection on Rantburg's network interface.

I can say after eight minutes, there have been more than 8 million attempts to breach the new rule.

Not attempts, unless you want to count each packet matching the rule as an attempt.

If it was, it would be coming from everywhere.
It's just an old-fashioned DoS.
Probably some misconfigured equipment somewhere.
If it was politically motivated, you'd be seeing referers in your log from some site as they clicked through and got angry. Any Spanish language translation in the logs?
Where are the web stats, anyway? Super sekret or something? Lots of sites have public stats. Bluesky has public stats.
What are the unique daily visitors, anyway?

The attacks are coming from aa variety of Latin America sources, nearly every one a Unix platform from hosting services.

Becuase it doesn't come from everywhere doesn't means it's not a DDoS.

As for web stats re: unique visitors, I don't have that software. This is not a hosted operation. It is independent.
