Second French warship arrives in Red Sea region
[GEO.TV] A second French warship has arrived in the Red Sea region as part of efforts to ensure freedom of navigation, the French army said on Thursday.

Many commercial shippers have diverted vessels to other routes following attacks in the Red Sea by Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
's Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ„¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s, who say they are acting in solidarity with Paleostinians as Israel wages war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
The Languedoc warship has already been patrolling in the Bab al-Mandab straits since December 8 alongside a US-led international mission to protect ships from attacks.

In a weekly briefing to news hounds, the army said the Alsace warship had crossed the Suez Canal and would continue its mission in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.

French officials have said their ships remain under national command and their priority is to escort French-linked vessels.

#1 French, but not British. What would Nelson say?

#2 What would Nelson say?

"Zoot alors!"

For those curious about such things, the Languedoc is an 80-gun ship of the line of the French Navy. Or it was back in the time King Louis XV. Today, she is an Aquitaine-class frigate equipped with generic frigate stuff for doing generic frigate things.

#3 The Aquitaine is a pretty, advanced ship.

#4 I am truely impressed the French can crew and support TWO warships to protect their country's freedom of navigation on the open seas. Eh, the Brits and Krauts, not so much.
The US should protect only US affiliated shipping.

#5 The Germany Navy has successfully patrolled the coast around the Horn of Africa (Somalia) for many years.

I wonder if that wouldn't primarily be Chinese goods.

#8 Aquitaine is a pretty slick looking ship.

Something rattling around my head took shape considering the last couple years:

Are we/have we looking at something like the Olde Trope about Mounted Knights vs. Crossbowmen? The one about very capable, very expensive, nearly irreplaceable units vs. a barrage of very cheap yet easy to field units?
