Tens of thousands expected at NYC's annual Israel parade; Mamdani to boycott it
[IsraelTimes] Organizer says City Hall has cooperated with permits for Sunday’s event and police are on top of security, though mayor refuses to participate for first time in decades

Tens of thousands are expected to march in New York City’s annual Israel parade on Sunday, although the march will not include one of its mainstay attendees — the city’s mayor.

The parade, called Israel Day on Fifth, sees Jewish groups march up Manhattan’s iconic Fifth Avenue. The event is a cornerstone of the area’s Jewish community, drawing in participants from around the city and the region.

City and state leaders are prominent attendees, and the city’s mayor has joined the parade for decades. That changed with Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a harsh critic of Israel who has identified as an anti-Zionist and took office in January.

Mamdani is a longtime supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) movement targeting Israel, which bars any "normalization" with Israel.

Last year, Mamdani said, "I will not be attending the Israel Day Parade," while adding, "I believe in equal rights for all people — everywhere."

Mamdani’s refusal to participate highlights his break with mainstream Jewish groups, in tensions that have continued to climb in recent weeks. The mainstream Jewish community had long enjoyed City Hall’s support, while Mamdani’s Jewish allies are to the left of the community’s center.

Different communities in New York City hold annual celebratory marches, and the Israel parade serves as the de facto annual celebration for the Jewish community.

Mark Treyger, the head of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, the group that organizes the parade, said that, despite Mamdani’s refusal to participate, his administration has been cooperative.

City Hall is responsible for granting permits for parades. Treyger said that the Mamdani team, during its transition period, "made clear to us that they were going to grant permits for the parade and they saw no changes coming."

The coordination with permits, the NYPD, and city agencies "has all been working smoothly," Treyger said in an interview on Wednesday.

"The overwhelming majority of people that come to the parade each year don’t go because of politicians. They go out of love and pride for their community, their heritage and their connection and love for Israel," Treyger said. "This parade is bigger than any one politician, and that includes the mayor of New York."

He applauded the police department’s security preparations, saying he had been in regular contact with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and that the police are "leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and successful parade."

Treyger did not have a specific estimate for attendance, but said the event was "at capacity" with tens of thousands expected to march alongside dozens of floats. Last year, organizers estimated that 50,000 people attended.

"We’re expecting one of the biggest crowds ever," Treyger said. "It’s a challenge to even accommodate more of the volume, and I think it’s a testament to the strength, the spirit and the resilience of the Jewish community."

The event "continues to take on a deeper meaning for our community in the aftermath of October 7th," he said.

In addition to tensions with City Hall, the mainstream Jewish community is under pressure from factors including hate crimes, caustic street protests, antisemitic graffiti and anti-Zionist activity in universities and communal institutions.

This year’s event marks the 50th anniversary of the JCRC of New York. The parade is also supported by the UJA-Federation of New York.

Other New York leaders typically attend the parade, such as Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James and Sen. Chuck Schumer
...Senator-for-life from New York, renowned for his love of standing in front of cameras and microphones. Schumer has been a professional politician since 1975, when disco was in flower, which is NaN years. Senate minority leader as of 2017...
Treyger said politicians typically do not confirm their attendance until shortly before the event, but that Hochul, James, and city leaders such as City Council Speaker Julie Menin and Comptroller Mark Levine are expected to attend. Hochul and her team have been "very supportive," he said.

The Israeli consulate in New York said 11 Knesset members will be attending, led by Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana.

Parade organizers strive to keep the event apolitical, but the march tends to reflect Jewish communal concerns. In 2023, protesters on the sidelines of the parade, who were not marching in the event, heckled Israeli government representatives over the Netanyahu coalition’s judicial overhaul.

The past two years saw participants advocating for the release of the hostages in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
. At last year’s event, former captives and hostages’ families formed the spiritual center of the march.

Some Jews have questioned the parade’s focus on Israel, saying the framing politicizes the event and makes the march unnecessarily divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
An activist group of leftist Israelis in the city said it will protest against the visiting Israeli Knesset members.

Marching groups tend to include Jewish nonprofits, non-Jewish allies, dancing troupes, identity groups such as Russian-speaking Jews, and thousands of children from Jewish day schools.

Representatives of the American Moslem & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council are expected to attend this year, marking what appears to be the first time a Moslem group marches.

An Asian-American group, including City Councilmember Susan Zhuang, is also expected to attend. Zhuang is a Chinese-American representative from Brooklyn and a supporter of Israel who attended rallies for the Israeli hostages in Gaza before their release.

"We certainly very much appreciate allies and friends in this moment," Treyger said.

This year’s theme is "Proud Americans, Proud Zionists." The march begins on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Spectators who are not marching can access the parade route via several entrances on Madison Avenue, and those not able to attend can view the parade on a livestream. Backpacks, large bags and some other items are not allowed in spectator areas due to security concerns.

The annual parade began in 1965 with an impromptu march by thousands of Zionist youth in support of Israel. JCRC-NY has managed the event since 2011.

Government Corruption
Report: Zohran Mamdani's Harlem Grocery Store Already Received $25M in Taxpayer Funds, Bringing Total to $55M
[Breitbart] Socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s chosen site for a $30 million, government-owned grocery store in East Harlem was approved for a $25 million taxpayer-funded facelift several years ago, setting up the total price tag at a whopping $55 million.

The proposed location is La Marqueta, a food-forward market located between East 111th and East 119th streets under the elevated Metro North tracks on Park Avenue. The purpose of the city-run store would be to offer super low prices because the store would not pay rent or taxes.

“That same site, however, already won approval from the city’s Economic Development Corporation nearly a decade ago for a $25 million project to redevelop La Marqueta — bringing the total price tag of the market’s proposed makeover to a staggering $55 million, city officials confirmed,” New York Post first reported.

Stephen Zagor, adjunct associate professor of food studies at Columbia Business School, told the outlet the $30 million price tag was already “an outrageous number,” and “you’d expect the doorknobs and cash registers to be solid gold.”

“And to think there is another $25 million allocated years ago for the rest of La Marqueta, which is well past its prime, I’d think they would have to revisit that,” Zagor added.

Anthony Pena, president of the National Supermarket Association, said city leaders have “not been transparent and open about anything they are doing” and noted that Mamdani never mentioned the location’s previous project in the report.

Mamdani has allocated approximately $70 million for five government-run stores, one for each borough. Pena said the final cost raises questions about why the city would be spending so much on the East Harlem location specifically.

“They are going to spend $10 million on a 20,000-square-foot store and $30 million on a 9,000-square-foot store,” Pena said. “There is a massive disconnect right now and there are more questions than answers.”

The Economic Development Corporation (EDC) confirmed to the Post that the $25 million deal and the $30 million store are two separate investment items.

The agency said the $30 million will be used for “the ground-up construction and fit-out of the public grocery store as well as back-of-house needs and parking with EV charging capability.” The agency did not give any further details, per the report.

The EDC said none of the prior $25 million will be used for the public grocery store. It also said the store and its parking lot will be at the north end of La Marqueta between East 117th Street and East 119th Street.

California gubernatorial hopeful Becerra has deep ties to migrant NGOs, Mexican government
[Just the News] The relationships with Becerra are both personal and political. His daughter Clarissa interned at UnidosUS in 2012.

California gubernatorial candidate and former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra's relationship with the Mexican government doesn't run through one nonprofit. It runs through many.

Newly detailed investigative reporting from the Government Accountability Institute tracks Becerra's long-standing, documented relationships with several of the most politically powerful migrant nonprofits in the country, including those with deep, operational ties to the Mexican government.

UNIDOSUS: DECADES OF ALIGNMENT
UnidosUS, formerly the National Council of La Raza and one of the largest Latino advocacy organizations in America, has been a Becerra ally for decades. GAI notes the group was created as a militant liberation movement in the 1960s.

By 2024, Mexican government officials were explicitly citing the need to engage UnidosUS to mobilize "citizen participation and collective action" inside the United States.

The relationship with Becerra is both personal and political. His daughter Clarissa interned at UnidosUS in 2012. The organization sponsored and paid for a $600 trip for Becerra to attend their Philadelphia conference in 2005.

When Becerra was nominated to lead HHS in 2020, UnidosUS supported his nomination and shepherded him throughout his Senate confirmation process. He has repeatedly spoken at their events.

In Arizona, a UnidosUS director participated in a January 2025 meeting hosted at the Phoenix Mexican Consulate. The event featured a who’s who of top Mexican officials and was centered on how Mexico could help counter the immigration policies of the incoming Trump administration.

UnidosUS's work on civic engagement, political advocacy, and get-out-the-vote efforts frequently intersects with Mexico's U.S. agenda, as seen in partnerships with groups like Mi Familia Vota and Unidos's own Civics for All program.
La Raza translates as The Race. They changed the name of their organization to distance themselves from the flagrantly racist and separatist policies of the original La Raza (or MEChA) but it's the same bunch of people. These people are about as racist as you can get. These are the people who want white people of European ancestry to be expelled from California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Texas. They want all these states for their dream nation of Aztlan.
BECERRA CALLS CHIRLA "MY FAMILY"
CHIRLA, a group that Becerra describes as part of his "family," is another nonprofit whose influence looms large over the gubernatorial hopeful. CHIRLA has been a close ally of Becerra’s since 2015. Last April, the group issued its official endorsement, vowing to "work hard to get him elected" because of his support for immigrants.

CHIRLA's ties to Mexico span more than two decades. In 1995 Mexico gave CHIRLA computers to track hate crimes. Since then, the two have worked closely on various events, including workshops for illegal migrants hosted at consular offices. CHIRLA's CEO even received the Mexican Government's prestigious Ohtli Award in 2015.

In addition to providing services for migrants, CHIRLA mobilizes anti-ICE rallies and deploys legal observers at ICE operations. The group also conducts voter outreach initiatives.

During the 2024 election, CHIRLA placed a Mobile Voting Center in a Los Angeles migrant hub, notably, right near the Mexican Consulate.

All the while, they have collected millions in taxpayer money.

Public records show that CHIRLA's government grant revenue was nearly $34 million in 2022. The group was awarded nearly $1 million in grants for citizenship and naturalization services during the Biden presidency.

Last summer, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) launched a House Judiciary investigation of CHIRLA on suspicion that the group was using taxpayer funding to support protests in Los Angeles. More than $100,000 in federal funding was clawed back before the probe officially opened.
CHIRLA was prominent among the organizers of the ICE protests in Los Angeles last year. These protests were marked by violent protesters throwing rocks at police and ICE agents and blocking roads while waving Mexican flags.
CARECEN: THE EARMARK AND THE CONSUL GENERAL
Becerra has also kept a close working relationship with CARECEN-LA, another nonprofit with deep ties to the Mexican government. He has held press conferences at CARECEN offices, spoken at their events, and sponsored a $100,000 congressional earmark directly benefiting the organization in 2009.

The organization has spent years partnering with Mexico on citizenship workshops and immigration classes with Consuls General. In August 2014, Becerra spoke at CARECEN about asylum policy. Days later, Mexico's Consul General appeared at the same organization for a workshop.

Taken together, the reporting highlights Becerra’s position at the center of Mexico's U.S. infrastructure and California's most powerful migrant NGO networks. His political alliances align consistently with Mexico's U.S. agenda. How well — if at all — that meshes with any gubernatorial responsibilities he may owe California's residents remains to be seen.

#5  But I'm afraid it isn't just Hispanic politicians who've been compromised. Giving the cartels a prize like coastal southern California is not the answer. They'll just keep agitating for more. Better to expose the crooks and, where their crimes can be proven, put them in jail.
