US adds 24 companies including those from Pakistan to export control list
[Dawn] The Biden administration (aka the Wilmington comorra)
...the pack of self-imagined masterminds of strategy and intrigue at the service of the Biden Crime Family and a grateful nation...
has added 24 companies and other entities to an export control list for supporting Russia’s military or defense industrial base, Pakistain’s nuclear activities or for supplying an Iranian electronics company.

The entities, based in Latvia, Pakistain, Russia, Singapore and Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, were added over US national security and foreign policy concerns, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday.

The companies include Fiber Optic Solutions in Latvia, which produces fiber optic gyroscopes and other equipment and Russia’s AO Kraftway Corporation PSC, which calls itself one of the biggest Russian IT companies.

The company says it builds and sells a wide range of IT solutions including hardware manufacturing.

Also on the list are Russian AO Scientific Research Center for Electronic Computing, LLC Fibersense, and Scientific Production Company Optolin, AO PKK Milandr; Milandr EK OOO; Milandr ICC JSC; Milur IS, OOO; (OOO) Microelectronic Production Complex (MPK) Milandr; and Ruselectronics JSC and Swiss based Milur SA.

The Commerce Department also added four trading and supply companies in Singapore for supplying or attempting to supply an Iranian electronics company, Pardazan System Namad Arman (PASNA), that was sanctioned by the US Treasury in 2018.

The Biden administration also added 10 companies in Pakistain and UAE that it says pose unacceptable risks of using or diverting items for Pakistain’s unsafeguarded nuclear activities or are involved Pakistain’s "nuclear activities and missile proliferation-related activities."

None of the companies was immediately available for comment.

The United States has made muscular use of export controls and the entity list to punish companies over their support of the Russian military and to curb the flow of foreign technology to Russia since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February.

Suppliers of US goods must seek a special a difficult-to-obtain license before shipping to companies added to the list.

Africa Horn
Somalia: Clan militia fighting Al-Shabaab not armed by Govt, says president
[Garowe] The clan militia fighting al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
in Somalia have not been armed by the federal government, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has confirmed, clearing doubt that the government is responsible for the heavy mobilization of the groups which have made significant gains in the war.

For the last three months, a number of clans have buried their differences and opted to fight alongside the national army, the US Africa Command, and the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] who have been jointly pursuing al-Shabaab holy warriors in the Horn of Africa nation.

At Djibouti where he's on a working trip, President Hassan Sheikh said the government was only interested in supporting the clans in helping the national army liberate as many towns as possible and install civilian rule after years of al-Shabaab dominance in some regions.

"The government did not arm the clans, but supported them to liberate their settlements and towns from al-Shabaab, " said Hassan Sheikh, who has activated a total crackdown against al-Shabaab across the country, adding that Somalia is not about to relent in the war which aims at eliminating the turbans.

He added: " We are happy with the progress they have made this far in supporting their motherland. This is the kind of patriotism that we all envisage and luckily, it is paying off. We shall continue to put the holy warriors on our toes and they are completely flushed out of our country. "

Most clans have ganged up against al-Shabaab and even assisted the national army to regain control in strategic villages across the country. It is not clear who arms the militia but investigations indicate they are well-equipped and trained to face adversaries on the battlefield.

Al-Shabaab holy warriors have lost several strategic towns with the government confirming that over 500 of them have been killed in different parts of the country. On Wednesday, the national army confirmed that it managed to find a mass grave where the holy warriors have been burying the bodies of their colleagues.

The president reaffirmed to the international community that his government will confront al-Shabaab both ideologically and militarily until they cede grounds. Later on, and for the sake of reconciliation, the government will engage the holy warriors for formalized talks, he added.

Somaliland says it is ready for conditional talks with Somalia's Govt
[Garowe] Somaliland says is ready for negotiations with Somalia over reconciliation after many years of a breakout, the region's leader Muse Bihi Abdi reportedly told envoys in the wake of calls to have the state resume talks with Somalia, over three decades after a nasty divorce.

Muse Bihi Abdi, reports indicate, told envoys from Norway and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
that he will welcome negotiations between Mogadishu and Hargeisa provided that certain conditions are fulfilled. Earlier, Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had expressed a desire to initiate talks between the two parties.

Hassan Sheikh, who had pledged to invest in reconciliation when he took over from Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo, noted that there was a need to have the two sides resume talks for the sake of uniting the people of the federal republic of Somalia after years of instability.

But for three talks to succeed, Muse Bihi Abdi noted, Somalia ought to implement all previous agreements which were violated, including but not limited to involving international mediators for the talks to succeed. He wants an independent secretariat to be established for the coordination of mediation talks.

For this to happen, he added, both teams ought to set clearly the agenda in the presence of the independent secretariat, with primary issues given priority. This, he added, will pave way for a meaningful dialogue that will be agreeable to all parties for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had held a meeting with Ottoman Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Yilmaz, Norwegian chargé d’affaires Haakon Svane, Turkey's Special Representative Aykut Kumbarolu, and Norway's Special Representative, Ms. Heidi Johansen in Mogadishu.

Hassan Mohamud noted that his administration's foreign policy doctrine, " Somalia at peace with itself and the World," is aligned to readdresses the decades-long Somaliland issue. Muse Bihi was a member of the defunct Somalia Air Force at the time of civil war during the reign of Siad Barre.

Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1990 following the civil war and since then, it has been leading a parallel government which is, however, not recognized internationally. The administration has a functional central bank, politician, and even judiciary.

The breakaway northern region has been pushing for international recognition for the last three decades which doesn't seem forthcoming. Somalia on the other hand maintains Somaliland remains part of her territory, warning that attempts for recognition will be paralyzed at the United Nations

for violating US restrictions on the sales of Iranian oil.

The US Treasury Department announced Thursday it was penalizing Sitki Ayan and a number of companies he and his family and associates control for facilitating the sale of hundreds of millions of dollars of Iranian oil for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its Quds Force, the branch tasked with carrying out overseas operations.

Ayan and his firms have also laundered the proceeds of those sales for both the Guard and Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch...
’s Hezbollah, both of which are designated as foreign terrorist organizations by the US, the Treasury said.

The sanctions include a freeze on any assets Ayan or the targeted companies may have in US jurisdictions and bar Americans from doing any business with them.

"Ayan’s companies have established international sales contracts for Iranian oil with foreign purchasers, arranged shipments of oil, and helped launder the proceeds, obscuring the oil’s Iranian origin and the (Guard’s) interest in the sales," the Treasury said in a statement.

It said Ayan, his son, Bahaddin, and three associates had organized sales of Iranian oil in violation of US sanctions for China, other east Asian nations, the United Arab Emirates and some customers in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
through Ayan’s Gibralter-based ASB Group of Companies Limited holding group.

He also had "the backing of senior levels of the Russian Federation government and state-run entities," the Treasury said.

ASB owns or controls numerous firms in Turkey, Cyprus, India and the Marshall Islands.

The sanctions on Ayan were part of an effort to deny the IRGC revenue due to its terror ties, the Treasury said.

The US has maintained sanctions on Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
to pressure the regime over its nuclear program, although talks aimed at reviving the 2015 deal that limited the program have been stalled for months.

In addition, the US has taken steps to punish Iran’s government after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini at the hands of morality police in September, the ensuing mass protests against the regime and the government’s violent mostly peaceful crackdown against demonstrators.

The US imposed sanctions on the morality police and the leaders of other Iranian law enforcement agencies, denying them access to any property or financial assets held in the US.

Texas Republicans tell White House - we DO have a plan for the 'undeclared war' at the border: GOP unveils security strategy - including a border wall, tightened interior enforcement and ending catch-and-release
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Good for them. But until conservative Republicans have veto-proof majorities in both the House and the Senate, or won the White House as well as having at least simple majorities in both Houses of Congress, they won’t be able to force the Democrats to give up flooding America with illegals. In the meantime, what can the Republican-controlled states do to reduce the harm the Democrat-controlled federal government is causing?
  • The framework is split up into four: completing the border wall, fixing border enforcement policies, enforcing laws in the interior, and targeting cartels

  • Over the past few weeks the White House has essentially taunted Republicans by repeatedly claiming they had 'no plan' and only 'political stunts' on immigration

  • 'You see a united team behind you that is fed up with the undeclared war against Americans,' Rep. Jake Ellzey said in a news conference Thursday

  • Plan calls to reinstate the MPP undone by President Biden to ensure that anyone who cannot be detained until their asylum proceeding is turned away

  • Also calls for reforming 'credible fear' and asylum policies to eliminate 'fraud' and defunding NGOs that 'encourage' illegal crossing

Mikati denies interfering to prevent Stephanie Saliba's arrest
[An Nahar] Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday denied a media report claiming that he had mediated with security agencies to prevent the arrest of the actress Stephanie Saliba at the Rafik Hariri International Airport.

"What al-Akhbar newspaper has reported about an interference by PM Mikati in a file related to Ms. Stephanie Saliba is totally baseless," Mikati’s press office said in a statement.

The daily had reported that Mt. Leb

Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun had issued a search and investigation warrant against Saliba "based on Lebanese and European investigations into the embezzlement, money laundering and theft file in which Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh is accused."

"The warrant was circulated to security agencies, but political interferences at a high level, especially by caretaker PM Najib Mikati, prevented Saliba’s arrest upon her arrival today to Beirut’s airport," the newspaper said.

Lebanon can ill afford a prolonged power vacuum as it grapples with a financial crisis dubbed by the World Bank as one of the worst in modern history, with a currency in free fall, severe electricity shortages and soaring poverty rates.

The country's caretaker government has limited powers and cannot enact the sweeping reforms demanded by international lenders to release billions of dollars in bailout loans.

FPM chief Jebran Bassil had blasted Hezbollah for attending an FPM-boycotted caretaker cabinet session on Monday, accusing them of "betrayal".

Hezbollah responded by dabbing Bassil's comment as "unwise" and "inappropriate." It said, in a statement Thursday, that it had not promised the FPM that its ministers would not attend cabinet sessions.

Al-Jadeed TV had earlier said that some of the FPM MPs might vote for Mouawad during today's session, as a political message.

Some votes for "Mouawad," "Michel," "Mouawad Badri Daher," were annulled.

FPM slams Hezbollah statement as containing 'contradictions, allegations and fallacies'
[An Nahar] The Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
on Thursday issued a rare statement criticizing its ally Hezbollah by name in connection with the controversy over the latest caretaker cabinet session.

"The last thing we wanted was to engage in a media exchange with Hezbollah, but the truth obliges us to clarify it and say that what was mentioned in the statement of Hezbollah’s media relations department was very ambiguous and carried a contradiction between keenness on the unanimity of the government’s components in taking decisions while not applying this to the attendance of sessions," the FPM’s central media and communication committee said in a statement.

"It seems that there is ambiguity and lack of clarity on the part of Hezbollah’s leadership regarding what happened and we are still hoping it will be rectified," the statement added.

"As for friendship, the FPM knows its meaning well, because it is offering everything needed to preserve it and protect it, except for what is related to the issue of the role, existence and partnership," the statement said.

It added that FPM chief Jebran Bassil will talk about "all these fallacies" and will explain "the gravity of what happened" in an interview on LBCI television on Sunday evening.

In a statement issued earlier on Thursday, Hezbollah hit back at betrayal accusations by Bassil and the FPM, noting that it had not promised anyone that "the caretaker cabinet would not convene except after all its components agree on the meeting."

Commenting on accusations by "some FPM circles," Hezbollah also said that "the use of the rhetoric of treachery accusations, betrayal and reneging, especially among friends, is an unwise and inappropriate behavior."
