US Coast Guard makes largest-ever offload of more than 70,000 pounds of illegal drugs seized over 2 months
[NYPOST] The US Coast Guard made its largest-ever offload of more than 70,000 pounds of cocaine and marijuana seized along the Florida coast over just two months, the military branch announced on Monday.

Guardsmen dropped a whopping 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana at Port Everglades, Florida, on Monday, officials said.

The bulk of the 76,140 pounds of illegal drugs was collected between June 26 and Aug. 18 through 19 different missions on international waters, primarily surrounding Ecuador, Venezuela

...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...

and Mexico, according to a news release.

The sting, dubbed Operation Pacific Viper, clinched its largest seizure on waters near Socorro Island, Mexico, where the troops seized 9,160 pounds of cocaine — roughly 12% of the record-breaking haul collected by the end of the summer.

On top of that, Guardsmen also intercepted 11 go-fast vessels transporting the illicit drugs and detained 34 alleged narcos, officials said.

Officials estimated that the heaping stash is worth around $473 million and enough to supply 23 million potential lethal doses to buyers in the US.

Rear Admiral Adam Chamie, commander of the branch's south-east district, said that it would be enough ''to fatally overdose the entire population of the state of Florida,'' according to the release.

Florida, the third most populated state in the US, has approximately 23.7 million residents, according to the 2024 census.

''This represents a significant victory in the fight against transnational criminal organizations, highlighting our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation from illicit trafficking and its devastating impacts,'' Chamie said.

The previous record for the branch's largest offload was 61,130 pounds of drugs, primarily cocaine, worth a staggering $1.4 billion

Coast Guard offloads record-breaking amount [76,000 pounds] of drugs off Florida coast
[FoxNews] The cocaine haul contained enough lethal doses to kill 23 million people, officials say

The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday offloaded more than 76,000 pounds of illegal drugs in Florida, marking the largest-ever drug seizure in a single operation in its history.

The Cutter Hamilton offloaded the drugs at Port Everglades, Florida, as part of Operation Pacific Viper. The drugs, which totaled 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana, were worth $473 million, the agency said.

With a lethal dose of cocaine being as little as 1.2 grams, the amount offloaded by Hamilton’s crew was enough to potentially kill 23 million people, the Coast Guard said.

"To put this into perspective, the potential 23 million lethal doses of cocaine seized by the U.S. Coast Guard and our partners are enough to fatally overdose the entire population of the state of Florida, underscoring the immense threat posed by transnational drug trafficking to our nation," said Rear Adm. Adam Chamie.

Operation Pacific Viper is part of the Trump administration’s effort to disrupt drug cartel activity in Latin America and to stop drugs and human smuggling before they reach American shores.

As part of the operation, the Coast Guard has conducted 19 interdictions in international waters off the Eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea.

The U.S. Navy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations, and a ship from the Royal Netherlands Navy also took part in the patrols.

"This outstanding group of professionals achieved unparalleled results in our nation’s fight against transnational criminal drug organizations," said Capt. John McWhite, commanding officer of the Hamilton. "The crew interdicted 11 go-fast vessels, detained 34 suspected drug traffickers, and seized a record 47,000 pounds of cocaine. The commitment and sacrifice of our deployed service members and their families, who forego time together for the protection of our nation, are to be celebrated."

Some of Hamilton's exploits include the June 26 interdiction of two vessels off the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, in which they seized more than 8,800 pounds of cocaine. On July 23, the crew seized more than 9,160 pounds of cocaine from a vessel near Socorro Island, Mexico.

The Coast Guard noted that 80% of illegal drug interdictions are made on the high seas.

ISIS Claims Three Attacks Killing 47 Puntland Security Force Soldiers
[ShabelleMedia] The Islamic State (ISIS) Somalia faction has claimed responsibility for three attacks against the Puntland Security Force (PSF) between July 16 and August 22, resulting in the deaths of 47 soldiers, according to statements released by the group.

The attacks targeted military positions in Puntland in northeastern Somalia. It comes as Puntland stated that its forces have made significant gains against the militants.

The PSF, responsible for security in the Bari region, has been engaged in ongoing operations against extremist groups, including ISIS and Al-Shabaab.

Puntland officials have yet to independently confirm the death toll claimed by ISIS.

The region has faced increased militant activity amid efforts to secure strategic areas, including the Cal-Miskaad mountains, where operations against ISIS militants have intensified.

The attacks underscore the continuing security challenges in Puntland, despite its reputation as one of Somalia’s more stable regions.

Govt Forces, Backed by Local Militia, Kill Dozens of Al-Shabaab Fighters in Central Somalia
[Garowe] The Somali National Army (SNA) announced the deaths of several al-Shabaab

fighters in central Somalia following an operation conducted alongside the Macawislay fighters, who have been instrumental in the fight against the Death Eaters.

According to military reports, the Lions of Islam were ambushed by the soldiers in their hideouts within the forested areas of Ali-Heelle and Iid-Kuus in the Galgaduud region, where the Lions of Islam control large swathes of rural areas.

Military officials who oversaw the operation confirmed that an unspecified number of Lions of Islam were killed, describing the casualties as "dozens." The forces also destroyed newly established al-Shabaab bases in the area.

The military said the SNA's 77th Battalion undertook the operation, working together with the local community fighters. Although the exact number of those killed was not immediately revealed, sources say 'several' Lions of Islam were eliminated.

This comes as the military court executed Anas Abdulqadir Ali Mahmoud "Salman" and Aden Mursal Mohammed Iidow, members of the al-Shabaab terrorist group, who were convicted of carrying out bombings and assassinations.

Court documents revealed that the two were linked to planned liquidations and kabooms targeting civilians and government officials. Direct involvement in the terrorist attack in Gaalkacyo, Puntland

Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, which claimed the lives of prominent community leaders, including elders and traditional figures.

The al-Shabaab Lions of Islam have been fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia, but the strong resilience of the Somali National Army and allies has managed to keep the Lions of Islam at bay, inflicting losses on their side.

Al-Shabaab, however, has made significant gains in recent weeks after taking over Moqokori, Adan Yabaal, and Mahas towns. But a few days ago, the army and allies managed to retake Barire following intense fighting.

Morocco Aids Niger to Hunt Down Boko Haram Chief ''Bakura''
[MOROCCOWORLDNEWS] Niger's military forces killed Ibrahim Mahamadou, known as ''Bakura,'' during what officials described as a ''surgical operation'' in the Diffa region of southeast Niger.

Morocco's intelligence services played a crucial role in the successful elimination of ''Bakura'' during a joint operation with Niger's military forces in the Lake Chad basin region.

The operation signals Morocco's expanding counter-terrorism partnerships across the Sahel and reflects the North African country's growing influence in West African security affairs.

Troops Of OPHK Eliminate Top Boko Haram Commanders, Neutralise Dozens In Multiple Operations
[EONSINTELLIGENCE] Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in collaboration with the Air Component, have recorded major operational successes against Boko Haram, the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), and Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorists in Borno and Yobe States.

Between 21 and 22 August 2025, troops successfully foiled coordinated terrorist attacks on Bita and Wulgo in Borno State, neutralising 11 insurgents, including two top commanders identified as Abu Nazir (Munzir of Juye) and Abu Fatima (Munzir of Koloram). Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, a cache of ammunition, and six motorcycles.

In a related development on 22 August 2025, troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, supported by precision strikes from the Air Component, repelled a night attack on the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe. The air bombardments inflicted heavy casualties, with over 20 bodies, including dismembered parts, discovered in shallow graves during subsequent exploitation operations. Assorted weapons were also recovered.

Similarly, troops of Sector 1 conducting offensive operations at Dipchari near Banki Junction, Bama LGA, engaged terrorists in an intense gun battle, neutralising several fighters. Seized weapons included Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, 7.62mm special ammunition, and motorcycles.

On 23 August 2025, troops of Sector 2, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), carried out a long-range tactical operation around Ndoksa, near Buni Gari in Yobe State. The raid led to further terrorist casualties and the recovery of additional AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.

The coordinated offensives have significantly degraded the terrorists' capabilities, denying them freedom of action, weakening their firepower, and disrupting logistics across the region.

The Military High Command commended the gallantry and resilience of the troops and urged them to sustain the momentum in the ongoing fight against insurgency, despite evolving security challenges.

Cameroon: 13 hostages likely kidnapped by Boko Haram freed

, have been returned to Maroua, the capital city of the Far North district in the country.

The hostages, among which were three citizens of neighbouring Chad and 10 Cameroonian students, were freed by the armed forces and the elite unit Brigade d'Intervention Rapide (BIR).

"11 other hostages had been taken deep into Nigeria. But thanks to the joint effort by our armed forces, the BIR, gendarmerie and the safety committees, and even the population, everyone has played their part, and we have freed them," announced Midjiyawa Bakari, governor of the Far North district.

One hostage, however, did not make it out alive. A boy, identified as Bryan Bessala, aged 19, was killed by the kidnappers, as a ransom payment was not made in time despite efforts from the Cameroonian population, which raised almost 6 million Cameroonian francs in the space of 24 hours.

But the aid came too late for the teenager, who had been kidnapped together with his four siblings from a bus, after returning from a holiday.

In Yaound , his mother, Nga Annie, showed relief at the return of her children, but said that she wanted to receive her eldest son's body, which has not yet been found.

"For the one who is not here anymore, I am still asking the government to give me his body, which was not found, so that I can grieve him," she said.

In the Logone et Chari, Mayo Sava and Mayi Tsanaga vicinities, kidnappings related to Boko Haram have become a more and more frequent plight for the inhabitants.

Houthis claim early-morning missile attack
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile attack that triggered sirens in Jerusalem and parts of central Israel early this morning.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree says the rebels targeted Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv “using a hypersonic ballistic missile.” The Houthis are not known to possess hypersonic missiles.

The missile was shot down by the air force, the military said on Telegram.

London police say 67 charged for backing banned anti-Israel group Palestine Action
[IsraelTimes] Accused face six months jail if found guilty of supporting org proscribed as a terror group in July after activists vandalized Royal Air Force base

London’s Metropolitan police have charged a total of 67 people with showing support for the banned anti-Israel group Paleostine Action, the force announced on Tuesday.

The accused will appear in court across several dates in October, and face a possible maximum sentence of six months imprisonment if found guilty, the Met said.

The UK government proscribed Paleostine Action as a terror group in July following acts of vandalism at a Royal Air Force base, which caused an estimated £7 million ($9.3 million) in damage to two aircraft.

The group said its activists were responding to Britannia’s indirect military support for Israel during the war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, which began when Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
-led Lions of Islam rampaged through southern Israel, murdering 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages.
That’s nice. Respond without deliberately causing millions of criminal damage, which is a crime no matter the reason.
Rights groups have condemned the ban as legal overreach and a threat to free speech.

More than 700 people have been arrested, mostly at demonstrations, since the group was outlawed under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The Met said in its statement that charges had been laid against 64 people relating to protests held in central London on two dates last month.

That was in addition to charges brought against three other people announced earlier this month.

On Monday, acclaimed screenwriter Paul Laverty was arrested on suspicion of supporting Paleostine Action during a protest in Edinburgh, Scottish police said.

Last week, Irish author Sally Rooney vowed to give fees generated by two BBC adaptations of her books to Paleostine Action.

Law enforcement officers cut down a tree to catch the perpetrator of the terrorist attack in Crocus
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] One of the perpetrators of the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall concert hall near Moscow had to be taken down from a tree after a chase in order to detain him. This was stated in court by a law enforcement officer who testified as a witness in the case.

“The terrorist who had fled into the forest was taken down from the tree; the tree had to be cut down, he didn’t want to get down on his own,” RIA Novosti quoted a participant in the process as saying.

In addition, the traffic police officers who were chasing the perpetrators of the terrorist attack also testified in court. According to them, during the pursuit, the criminals' car drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into another car. After which the criminals scattered in the direction of the forest, where they were detained.

The terrorist attack in Crocus took place on the evening of March 22, 2024. The attackers broke into the building, opened fire on people, and then started a fire. As a result of the terrorist attack, 149 people were killed, one is missing, and 609 citizens were injured. Four terrorists were detained the next day in the Bryansk region, 100 km from the Ukrainian border. During the investigation, they admitted that the terrorist attack was organized by the Ukrainian special services. The organizers were put on the wanted list.

The case is being heard by the Second Western District Military Court. The trial is being held behind closed doors. Three of the perpetrators of the terrorist attack in Crocus, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Shamsiddin Fariduni and Muhammadsobir Faizov (all individuals included in the Russian Federation list of terrorists and extremists) fully admitted their guilt. The fourth perpetrator of the terrorist attack, Rachabalizoda Murodali (an individual included in the Russian Federation list of terrorists and extremists), partially admitted his guilt.

According to the case materials, traffic police officers fired more than 30 times at the Renault car, in which the four perpetrators of the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall were trying to escape, before they managed to stop it. At first, the first crew member opened fire, but after the ammunition was used up, the second crew began shooting. The policemen punctured all four tires of the terrorists' car. Only after that did it begin to lose speed, collided with an oncoming car and stopped.

German court convicts Syrian teen for plotting attack on Taylor Swift gigs in Vienna
[IsraelTimes] Judges give 16-year-old 18-month suspended sentence, say he supported Islamic State, sent bomb-building instructions to man in Austria planning to carry out attack

A German court on Tuesday convicted a 16-year-old boy accused of supporting a foiled plot to attack Taylor Swift concerts in Austria last year.

The Syrian national, whom prosecutors have identified only as Mohammad A. in line with German privacy rules, was convicted of preparing a serious act of violence and supporting a terrorist act of violence abroad. The Berlin court gave him a suspended 18-month sentence.

Judges found that the defendant, then aged 14, supported the ideology of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group at the time and was in contact via social media with a young man in neighboring Austria who planned to attack a Swift concert in Vienna.

The court said they found that, among other things, the defendant sent his acquaintance a video with bomb-building instructions and organized contact with an IS member.

Three Swift concerts in Vienna were canceled on August 7, 2024, when the plot was discovered. Austrian authorities made three arrests.

The defendant made a "comprehensive confession" at his trial, which was held behind closed doors because of his age, according to the court. The verdict can be appealed.

Austria’s coalition government in June agreed on a plan to enable police to monitor suspects’ secure messaging in order to thwart terror attacks, ending what security officials have said is a rare and dangerous blind spot for a European Union

Woman, 32, is dragged into bushes and raped in front of the Eiffel Tower as Libyan teen is arrested
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A teenager has been arrested after a woman was dragged into the bushes and raped in front of the Eiffel Tower. The suspect, a Libyan 17-year-old, was taken into custody shortly after the horrific attack near the Champ-de-Mars in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to initial evidence gathered by police officers at the scene, it was 2.40am when a man forcibly dragged the victim, a Ukrainian woman, 32, behind a bush. He then allegedly sexually assaulted and raped her. The victim's screams quickly alerted police on a patrol nearby. The suspect, who was reportedly drunk, was immediately arrested.

The young man introduced himself as a 17-year-old teenager of Libyan nationality, Le Parisien reports.
Any or all of which may or may not be true — older colonists very often claim to be underage because the punishments are lighter and the record does not carry over into adult police files.
This has not been confirmed as the suspect has no identity papers.
Check his teeth. And perhaps biopsy the growth plates at the ends of his long bones.
'His identity is currently being verified,' the prosecutor's office told the publication.

Tragically, cases of sexual violence are common at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, where nearly six million visitors visit each year.

In 2023, a Mexican tourist said she was raped by five men at a garden near the tourist attraction.

The 27-year-old woman told authorities the attack happened between the early hours of July 26 and 27 at the Champ de Mars park in Paris.

And in October the same year, a British police officer said she was also raped at the foot of the tower.

The victim, 23, told French police she was attacked by a man wielding a knife in the Champ de Mars park shortly before midnight that evening.

She said the suspect pulled out a knife as she tried to deflect his advances. After the man fled, she called the police. An anti-crime squad rushed to the scene and the victim was taken care of by firefighters.

Police arrested a 35-year-old man around an hour after the woman reported the attack and gave a description of the suspect.

The victim was a tourist staying overnight with a friend in the French capital, according to Le Parisien. The attacker pounced after the victim went behind a bush to go to the toilet. She was separated from her friend for only a few moments when the attacker threatened her with a knife.

Last March, Rachida Dati, the borough's mayor, made a shocking statement at a neighborhood meeting. She said that 'sexual assaults,' 'not to mention rapes,' took place 'every day' on the Champ-de-Mars. Ms Dati also said the area suffered from 'under-equipment.'

The Paris police headquarters told Le Parisien: 'In 2024, the police headquarters recorded one rape in the Champ-de-Mars area, compared to five in 2023, and seven sexual assaults, compared to nine in 2023,'

That's one rape in 2024, and seven sexual assaults.

7 arrested as anti-Israel protesters occupy Microsoft president’s office
[IsraelTimes] Police arrested seven people after they occupied the office of Microsoft President Brad Smith as part of continued protests over the company’s alleged ties to the Israel Defense Forces during the ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza, organizers say.

Current and former Microsoft employees were among those arrested, says the protest group No Azure for Apartheid.

Azure is Microsoft’s primary cloud computing platform, and Microsoft has said it is reviewing a report in British newspaper The Guardian this month that the IDF used it to store phone call data obtained through the mass surveillance of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

The protesters could be seen huddled together on a Twitch livestream as officers moved in to arrest them. The video showed another group assembled outside.

During a media briefing, Smith said two of those arrested were Microsoft employees.

Eighteen people were arrested in a similar protest in a plaza at the headquarters last week. The group has been protesting the company for months. Microsoft in May fired an employee who interrupted a speech by CEO Satya Nadella, and in April it fired two others who interrupted the company’s 50th anniversary celebration.

The group’s demands include that the company cut ties with Israel and pay reparations to Palestinians.
More from the Times of Israel at 1:45 p.m. EDT:
“There are many things we can’t do to change the world, but we will do what we can and what we should,” Smith told reporters at a media briefing following Tuesday’s arrests. “That starts with ensuring that our human rights principles and contractual terms of service are upheld everywhere, by all of our customers around the world.”

Earlier this year, The Associated Press revealed previously unreported details about Microsoft’s close partnership with the Israeli Defense Ministry, which uses Azure to transcribe, translate and process intelligence gathered through mass surveillance. The AP reported that the data can be cross-checked with Israel’s in-house, AI-enabled systems to help select targets.

Following The AP’s report, Microsoft said a review found no evidence that its Azure platform and artificial intelligence technologies were used to target or harm people in Gaza. Microsoft did not share a copy of that review, but the company said it would share factual findings from the further review prompted by The Guardian’s report when complete.

In the statement Tuesday, the protest groups said the disruptions were “to protest Microsoft’s active role in the genocide of Palestinians.”

Israel vociferously denies there is a genocide in Gaza and says it takes all measures necessary to ensure that civilians are not harmed as it targets Hamas, which it says is deeply embedded in civilian infrastructure in Gaza, including hospitals, mosques and displaced camps.

UN nuclear watchdog chief said to receive 24/7 security detail due to Iranian threat
[IsraelTimes] The head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog has been guarded by a 24/7 security detail in recent weeks due to a specific Iranian threat against him, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter.

The report says that Rafael Grossi is being protected by the elite Cobra special services unit in Austria, where the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency is based. The security attachment was reportedly assigned to him in late June after Austrian intelligence was given intelligence about a threat to Grossi from an unidentified third party in the wake of the Israel-Iran

IDF says mock explosive device made of plastic discovered near West Bank settlement overnight
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says a suspicious object that was discovered last night near Kibbutz Migdal Oz in the West Bank was a mock explosive device made of plastic.

The military says that security forces located the object, which contained no explosives, and destroyed it in a controlled manner.

Images circulating on social media show what appears to be a sewer pipe with a propeller attached to the end, and which Hebrew media outlets describe as a “dummy explosive device.”

The IDF emphasizes that, contrary to some reports, the object was not a missile.

Residents said Israeli aerial and tank shelling continued throughout the night and early on Tuesday in the eastern Gaza City suburbs of Sabra, Shejaiya, and Tuffah, as well as in Jabalia to the north, destroying roads and houses.

At least 34 people were killed in Israeli strikes in the enclave overnight and on Tuesday, Hamas

The Israel Defense Forces has said it is operating in the area to locate weapons and destroy tunnels used by terrorists. The security cabinet was scheduled to discuss Gaza and efforts to reach a hostage deal on Tuesday afternoon, the Prime Minister’s Office told The Times of Israel, as nationwide protests called for a comprehensive deal to end the war and secure the release of all the hostages kidnapped by bandidos Lions of Islam during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, massacre that sparked the conflict.

Updating news hounds on developments in Gaza, Dujarric said roughly 5,000 people have been displaced from northern Gaza to Deir al-Balah in the central Strip and Khan Younis in the South since August 20. He added that some 8,000 others have been displaced to the west of Gaza City, bringing the total number of new displacements since the end of the ceasefire in mid-March to more than 800,000.

Moreover, UN partners have reported that several education facilities, which are also used as shelters, were attacked last week, Dujarric said.
Those are usually Hamas C&C centers....
Dujarric claimed that Israeli authorities continue to inhibit the delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza, denying or impeding eight of 15 UN missions to transport assistance over the past 24 hours.

Israel has dismissed reports of starvation in Gaza as Hamas propaganda, but instituted a series of measures to alleviate hunger in the Strip in July following international pressure, including airdrops and 10-hour "humanitarian pauses" in military operations in three population centers to allow deliveries of aid.

Earlier in August, for the first time in nearly a year, Israel announced it would allow the entry of goods into Gaza through the private sector, an effort aimed at increasing the flow of essential food and hygiene items that were previously only delivered by aid organizations.

The US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), established to provide aid via an alternative that would keep goods out of Hamas’s hands, has been plagued by near-daily shooting incidents, in which the UN has said more than 1,000 people were killed as they tried to reach GHF distribution centers, allegedly by IDF gunfire.

clergy and nuns from the Greek Orthodox and Catholic churches in Gaza City have decided that they will not evacuate ahead of the upcoming offensive, and will instead remain within the church compounds to provide care for those unable to flee.

In a joint statement Tuesday, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate and the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem said that the Greek Orthodox compound of Saint Porphyrius and the Holy Family Church compound "have been a refuge for hundreds of civilians" since the outbreak of war in October 2023, among them "elderly people, women, and children," as well as disabled Gazooks.

"Like other residents of Gaza City, the refugees living in the facilities will have to decide according to their conscience what they will do," they said.

"Among those who have sought shelter within the walls of the compounds, many are weakened and malnourished due to the hardships of the last months. Leaving Gaza City and trying to flee to the south would be nothing less than a death sentence

The patriarchates said that "for this reason, the clergy and nuns have decided to remain and continue to care for all those who will be in the compounds. "

"We do not know exactly what will happen on the ground, not only for our community, but for the entire population," they acknowledged. "We can only repeat what we have already said: There can be no future based on captivity, displacement of Paleostinians, or Dire Revenge."

"This is not the right way," they said, calling for both an end to the "senseless and destructive war" and for the return of the hostages being held by Gazook terror groups. "It is now time for the healing of the long-suffering families on all sides."

the IDF released new footage showing the destruction of two Hamas tunnels in the central Gaza Strip, part of a monthlong operation by forces from the Gaza Division’s southern brigade, the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit, and the Gaza Division’s engineering units.

According to the military, one of the tunnels, which featured multiple exit shafts, contained living quarters, food, weapons, and other facilities used by Hamas operatives. Troops sealed the tunnel by filling it with concrete. A second offensive underground route, stretching hundreds of meters, was destroyed with explosives.

The IDF said that in the course of the operation, dozens of Hamas fighters were killed, and both underground and aboveground terror infrastructure was dismantled. The military added that the effort was aimed at widening the security buffer along the central and southern border of the Gaza Strip.

IDF troops raid Ramallah money changer accused of funding Hamas activities
[IsraelTimes] Military says five suspects arrested, hundreds of thousands of shekels seized, troops fired shots at stone-throwers; Red Crescent says 14 wounded, including seven by live rounds

The Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday launched a rare daytime raid in the West Bank city of Ramallah targeting a local currency exchange office linked to Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
According to the military, soldiers from the Binyamin Regional Brigade, along with Duvdevan commando unit fighters and Border Police forces, stormed a currency exchange office accused of transferring funds to Hamas operatives to finance terror activity. The operation was carried out with intelligence guidance from Central Command and the Shin Bet.

During the raid, five suspects allegedly involved in terror activity were arrested, and hundreds of thousands of shekels identified as terror funds were confiscated, the IDF says.

The Red Islamic Thingy said at least 14 people were maimed in the incursion. Seven were hit by live rounds, while the rest were maimed by rubber bullets or tear gas inhalation.

It said that Israeli forces were "preventing our teams from reaching the injured in a besieged area."

Asked for a response to the claim of injuries, the IDF said that it opened fire on Paleostinians throwing stones at troops during the operation and confirmed some were hit, but did not provide a toll.

One clip of the raid depicted the soldiers raiding the office, while others showed military vehicles and troops moving through the city streets.

An AFP journalist saw soldiers on the ground around al-Manara Square in the city center and on balconies overlooking it.

Witnesses told AFP that the army withdrew in the early afternoon.

past raids in the city have also targeted money changers with links to terrorist organizations.

Since October 7, 2023, troops have arrested some 6,000 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,350 affiliated with Hamas.

According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, more than 950 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops or forces of Evil carrying out attacks.

During the same period, 53 others, including Israeli security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another eight members of the security forces were killed in festivities with terror operatives in the West Bank.

The day’s protests, which saw the blocking of several major highways, marches to the homes of ministers, and protests outside the Prime Minister’s Office as he held a security cabinet meeting there, culminated in a major protest in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square, which drew some 350,000 people, according to organizers. Police did not immediately provide their own independent estimate of the crowd size.

The day of action, announced by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, was the second in two weeks, after a major protest last Sunday drew crowds of over one million, according to the forum, with some 500,000 in Tel Aviv alone.

Throughout the day, protesters blocked highways and major intersections, including Tel Aviv’s Ayalon Highway, Route 1 between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, the major Route 6 artery, and the Route 2 coastal highway, and in some cases, set fire to tires on the roads.

As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the security cabinet for a meeting at his Jerusalem office, hundreds of protesters marched outside, demanding that the forum agree to the deal that Hamas said it accepted last week.

The security cabinet meeting concluded without a vote, or even a discussion, on the partial ceasefire proposal, with Netanyahu telling ministers that he will only discuss a comprehensive framework, and that he is moving ahead with the expanded operation to capture Gaza City to pressure Hamas to meet his conditions, according to Hebrew media reports.

In Tel Aviv, protesters marched from the Savidor central train station to Hostages Square, where family members of the hostages addressed the hundreds of thousands of people gathered.

According to a Channel 12 report, following the two days of mass protests, relatives of the captives are now planning to shift tactics and confront politicians directly.

The relatives hope to "disrupt the day" of Netanyahu and cabinet ministers, including by protesting outside their homes on a daily basis, the outlet said, adding that the families also plan to protest government and cabinet meetings, as a group did earlier Tuesday.

Protesters also plan to obstruct the politicians’ movements, the report said, in an effort to constantly remind them of the hostages’ plight.

IDF widens Nasser Hospital probe amid questions over tank shelling authorization
[IsraelTimes] Military cites Hamas surveillance camera on hospital grounds as reason for attack; Hebrew media report Southern Command did not authorize tank fire that caused deadly blast

The Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday that its preliminary investigation into Monday’s deadly attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis found that Hamas

had installed a surveillance camera on hospital grounds and that six of the more than 20 people killed were operatives in the terror group, including one who took part in the October 7, 2023, massacre in southern Israel.

Hebrew media later reported that IDF Southern Command had only authorized a dronezap on the Hamas surveillance camera but did not approve the use of tank shells that ultimately caused the deaths, including those of several journalists.

According to the reports, Golani Brigade troops first identified the Hamas-installed camera, believed to be monitoring Israeli troop movements. Southern Command approved a dronezap to neutralize the device. Shortly afterward, troops spotted what they thought was a rifle scope, assessed it as an immediate threat, and urgently sought approval to fire.

While the division commander authorized tank fire, Southern Command had not, the reports said. In the end, two shells were fired at the site, followed by two more after gunnies were identified, for a total of four. Footage from the scene showed rescuers engulfed in smoke after a second blast struck those rushing to aid victims of the initial strike.

Channel 12, citing military sources, reported that 18 people were killed in total, including 10 Hamas operatives, though the IDF has so far confirmed only six.

Following the initial investigation’s findings, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered the probe expanded to scrutinize the approval process for the strike, including the timing of the attack, the type of munitions used, and the chain of decision-making on the ground.

The IDF reiterated that it regrets civilian casualties and does not target journalists,

while accusing Hamas of "cynically" exploiting medical facilities for military purposes.

Hospitals have repeatedly become battlegrounds in the Gaza war, with Israel accusing Hamas of using them to shelter fighters, hold hostages, and conceal military infrastructure.

Syrian state TV reports 6 soldiers killed in Israeli drone strike near Damascus
[IsraelTimes] Six Syrian soldiers were killed in Israeli drone strikes in the Damascus countryside, state-run El Ekhbariya TV reports.
More from the Times of Israel at 2:00 p.m. EDT:
A Syrian defense ministry official, who earlier put the death toll at three, told AFP on condition of anonymity that “an Israeli drone targeted one of the military buildings of the 44th division of the Syrian army in Kiswah, west of Damascus.”

There was no immediate statement from the Israel Defense Forces.

Syria and Israel are engaged in US-mediated talks on easing tensions in southern Syria, with Damascus seeking a security deal that could open the door to wider political negotiations.

On Tuesday, the official SANA news agency reported that “a young man was killed in an Israeli strike on a home in the village of Taranja,” on the formerly Syria-controlled side of the armistice line on the Golan Heights.

Syria condemned “the recent Israeli attacks on its territory, which resulted in the martyrdom of a young man,” the foreign ministry said.

It also condemned what it said was an incursion on Monday by the IDF forces into a town in the Quneitra countryside, their “arrest campaigns against civilians,” and their “announcement of the continuation of their illegal presence on the summit of Mount Hermon and the buffer zone.”

“These aggressive practices constitute a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions, and constitute a direct threat to peace and security in the region.”

The IDF has been deployed to nine posts inside southern Syria since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024, mostly within a UN-patrolled buffer zone on the border between the countries.

Troops have been operating in areas up to around 15 kilometers (some nine miles) deep into Syria, including Beit Jinn, aiming to capture weapons that Israel says could pose a threat to the country if they fall into the hands of “hostile forces,” as Iranian-backed groups did during Assad’s rule.

It distrusts Syria’s new government, which is led by former jihadists.

Amid the ongoing US-mediated talks between Jerusalem and Damascus, Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed Tuesday that IDF troops would remain in Syria to defend the north, saying Israel’s need to maintain a presence there is a “central lesson from the events of October 7.”

Citing October 7, Katz says Israeli troops inside Syria staying put to defend north
[IsraelTimes] Defense minister digs in amid talks aimed at reaching new security arrangement with Damascus; Syria reports one killed in Israeli strike on village near Golan border

Israel said on Tuesday it would not retreat from positions on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon and in other areas across the border, amid reports of advanced talks between Jerusalem and Damascus on reaching security arrangements along the sensitive frontier.

The comments from Defense Minister Israel Katz came a day after Syria condemned what it said was a "dangerous escalation" by dozens of Israeli troops who allegedly carried out an incursion east of the Mount Hermon foothills.

Syrian media reported fresh violence on Tuesday morning as Israel allegedly shelled a home in the village of Tranjah, north of Quneitra near the border with the Golan Heights.

Reports said one person was killed in the attack on a home in the village, describing the fatality as a "young man," indicating he was not a member of Syria’s security forces. Pictures showed damage to part of the second floor of what appeared to be an unoccupied home.

There was no comment from the Israel Defense Forces on the alleged strike.

Writing on X, Katz said "the IDF will remain on the summit of [Mount] Hermon and in the security zone that is vital to defending communities in the Golan and Galilee from threats emanating from the Syrian side."

Israel’s need to maintain a presence there is a "central lesson from the events of October 7," said the minister, who has previously vowed to keep troops atop Mount Hermon indefinitely.

Nonetheless, it has engaged in US-brokered talks aimed at reaching understandings with Damascus and de-escalating potential conflicts, which some believe could pave the way for broader normalization talks.

On Monday, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa told Arab journalists that his government was in "advanced" negotiations with Israel on a security agreement. He told Sky News Arabic that any deal would be based on ceasefire lines that have formed the de facto border between the countries since 1974.

Sharaa later discussed developments in Syria and the region with US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack in Damascus. On Sunday, Barrack was in Israel for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Syria and Lebanon.

Barrack told US news outlet Axios that Israel and Syria "have mutual intent and desire but at the moment, there is still more work to do" on a security agreement.

"Constructive dialogue between these nation states is the on ramp to a long-lasting understanding that will be the preface to stability and prosperity in the region," he added.

Earlier in the day, Syria’s Foreign Ministry condemned what it alleged was an attempt by Israel to expand its sphere of control around Mount Hermon, saying 60 troops had deployed on a strategic hilltop that overlooks Beit Jinn. Residents claimed Israel arrested six Syrians.

An Israeli military spokesperson said troops carried out routine operational activity in an area of southern Syria but did not operate in Beit Jinn, an area some 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) east of the border with Israel, where troops have carried out raids in the past.

The Israeli military said they made no arrests during their activity in southern Syria but they detained one person for questioning after some suspects were spotted approaching the area in a manner the military deemed as a threat to the troops.

"This dangerous escalation is considered a direct threat to regional peace and security," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The US has been working to calm tensions between Israel and Syria since the IDF intervened on behalf of Syria’s Druze community last month, bombing Damascus’s Defense Ministry headquarters and striking regime forces that Israel said were poised to carry out mass killings in the Druze town of Sweida.

According to Channel 12 news, a deal between Jerusalem and Damascus could see Syria’s side of the Golan Heights demilitarized, with the Syrian army blocked from operating in sensitive areas. Israel also wants strategic weapons barred from entering Syria and the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to Druze areas of southern Syria. In return, Syria would receive reconstruction assistance from the US and Gulf states.

The humanitarian corridor was discussed last week in trilateral talks between Barrack, Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Axios reported Monday.

Syrian security forces, notorious militia clash in Afrin
[Rudaw] Clashes erupted on Sunday night between Syrian security forces and the notorious US-sanctioned Suleiman Shah (al-Amshat) brigade in northwest Syria’s Kurdish city of Afrin after the bandidos murderous Moslems refused to hand over their bases, local activists said.

Ibrahim Shekho, a legal activist from Afrin, told Rudaw that festivities broke out between Damascus’s General Security forces and the Ottoman Turkish-backed militia group in the center of Afrin’s Shiye subdistrict.

violations in Afrin, including "abductions and extortion," primarily against Kurdish residents.

According to Shekho, more than 200 General Security military vehicles from Afrin, Idlib, and Azaz - equipped with medium weapons - entered Shiye, an area under Amshat’s control.
"When the security forces entered the town, they demanded that Amshat button men hand over their bases, but Saif Jassim, Abu Amsha’s brother, refused and confronted them, which led to the outbreak of fighting," he said.

The festivities intensified throughout the evening before calming by around midnight after negotiations between the two sides. A temporary deal was reached, giving Amshat one week to leave the area.

"It was decided that the Amshat group would leave... and they were given a one-week deadline to evacuate Shiye," Shekho noted.

regime and dissolved to form the new Syrian government, the group moved to consolidate full control over Syrian territory. In January, the Amshat faction demanded large sums of money from Kurds returning to Afrin in order to allow them back to their areas, as Arab settlers were leaving.

Syria’s new authorities have also faced backlash, primarily from the Kurds, for granting military positions to militia leaders complicit in serious human rights abuses, such as Abu Amsha.

Mustafa Shekho, a civil activist and Shiye resident, told Rudaw that there was information that Abu Amsha himself had come to the town and that his brother Saif Jassim was to be arrested, "but the arrest has not been confirmed."

"Within a week to ten days, no gunman except [General] Security forces will remain in Shiye," he added.

Ahmed Hassan, head of the Kurdish National Council (ENKS/KNC) in Afrin, said that a large security convoy entered Shiye on Sunday but that "those new forces... have withdrawn and returned. Now only those [state] security forces that were previously stationed in Shiye remain."

"The Amshat group is still in the Shiye area and has not withdrawn," Hassan explained, adding that a meeting between the two sides was held, but the outcomes remain unclear.

seized the area in 2018 during Operation Olive Branch, ousting the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG), the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Afrin was then handed over to Ottoman Turkish-backed factions, including the Suleiman Shah Brigade, which rights groups say have since acted with impunity.

In 2023, the US Treasury accused the Suleiman Shah Brigade of systematically targeting Kurds in Afrin through harassment, abduction, and extortion, forcing residents to abandon homes or pay ransoms to recover family members or property.

International watchdogs such as Amnesty International and the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) documented similar abuses as early as 2018, including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, sexual violence, kidnappings, looting of agricultural crops, and other violations.
