#6  What is the definition of terror? Is terror not defined as the calculated murder of innocent people in a massive way? Why is the United Nations in the US? Isn't the United Nations supposed to insure world peace? Did the US not learn from 911 that if you do not fight terror, terror will raise it's evil head and come after the rest of us? My country the US is being the most atrocious hypocrite in the history of mankind and does not deserve to be a free nation anymore for not helping to stop the horrors of terror in this world, especially in the attack on Ukraine. The United States needs to stop lying about world peace when it lets terror run rampant without offering at least material support to Ukraine.

NYPD cop's murder mirrors larger national pattern: Repeat offenders committing violent crimes
[JustTheNews] Revolving door justice: The pattern has emerged across the country as cities like New York and Washington, D.C. have softened bail laws and continue to release dangerous individuals into the public.

After the tragic shooting of a New York Police Department officer Jonathan Diller last week elicited reactions nationwide, drawing attention from New York politicians and presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The alleged perpetrator, Guy Rivera—who has been charged with first-degree murder of the police officer, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon—is a career criminal with 21 prior arrests.

This appears to be a pattern borne out across the nation—criminals quickly released from incarceration returning to commit serious and violent crimes at the expense of innocent citizens or police officers. A study from New York indicated this pattern is likely the result of bail reform. Other evidence from elsewhere in the country shows weak enforcement from District Attorneys and other law enforcement.

The widow of Jonathan Diller addressed this pattern in the gut wrenching eulogy for her husband delivered last week at the funeral held in the Long Island town of Massapequa.

ULTIMATE SACRIFICE
“It’s been two years and two months since Detective Rivera and Detective Mora made the ultimate sacrifice — just like my husband Jonathan Diller. Dominque Rivera stood before all the elected officials present today pleading for change,” Stephanie Diller said, referring to the 2022 murder of two NYPD officers under similar circumstances.

“That change never came. And now my son will grow up without his father, and I will grow old without my husband. And his parents have to say goodbye to their child,” she continued. “How many more police officers and how many families need to make the ultimate sacrifice before we start protecting them?” she asked, with top leaders of the NYPD and Mayor Eric Adams in attendance.

"This is a vicious career criminal who has the mentality to kill a New York City police officer," said Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association. "He's a dangerous individual, should have never been on the streets."

The murder comes amid an enduring crime problem that has plagued America’s largest city. For example, violent crimes on the city’s famous subway system have skyrocketed 22.6% so far this year, compared to the same period from 2023. Both Mayor Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul have struggled to rein it in.

“What makes sense of this? It doesn't anymore, and you know what, rules and laws have got to change. Nobody is trying to look for a fight. Let's just get a change. Let's get in a room think this thing out and make a change that's good for everybody," Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said of the murder, according to CBS News New York.

Mayor Adams’ office did not respond to a request for comment from Just the News.

The same day NYPD Officer Diller was shot, a a man who was described by his mother as having psychological issues pushed a random stranger onto the subway tracks at an East Harlem station. According to the police, the attack was unprovoked. The driver of the oncoming train was unable to stop in time and the victim was struck and killed.

Later that evening, the suspect was arrested by the New York Police Department (NYPD) and identified as Carlton McPherson. NYPD said the man appeared to have a history of mental illness and had several previous arrests in Brooklyn. McPherson has been charged with committed a string of assaults revealing a violent nature. In the first assault on record, from when he was 16-years-old, he was charged with attacking another teenager with brass knuckles. The New York Times reported that Brian Chelcun, a Legal Aid lawyer who represented Mr. McPherson in the October case, declined to comment when reached on Tuesday.

Despite decreases in crime rates overall throughout the city, violent crimes on the subways persist in the face of attempts by Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul to curb the problem. The mayor’s latest initiative—portable gun scanners for subway stations—follows a series of actions by Mayor Adams and Gov. Hochul to restrain crime in the subways, which included deploying the national guard and surging mental health assistance, Just the News reported last week.

New York’s bail reform laws have come under renewed scrutiny, in light of the multiple recent tragedies and crime on the public transportation system. Gov. Hochul criticized state judges for not being “trained in the changes that we made,” however, New York is the only state where judges do not consider how dangerous an offender is when deciding bail, according to CBS News New York.

#1  a career criminal with 21 prior arrests.

Yes, it is mean to throw people in jail just because they have never learned impulse control and do not have the mental horsepower to make moral judgments. But missing from the equation is the fact that crimes have victims. Sure, it was just a simple purse snatching, but some old lady lost her grocery money and is now afraid to walk to walk down the street. The corner boys slinging dope are just trying to make a living, but the neighbors are afraid to sit out on the stoop for fear of catching a round in the next drive-by.

Pandering for votes is a politician's stock-in-trade. However, contrary to streotypes, most crime is intra-racial - black on black, or white on white. Saving criminals from The Man may be a good campaign strategy, but the rest of the demographics pays the price.

RSF attacks Zaghawa villages in North Darfur, raise fears of ethnic clashes
[SUDANTRIBUNE] At least 15 people are dead following attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Arab militias on Zaghawa villages west of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur.
As I recall, it was just a day or two ago that the Biden admin warned the RSF not to attack el-Fasher.
The attacks targeted the villages of Darmaa, Azbani, Karo, Jarof, Hilla Mohammed Ali, and Hilla Abdallah. Many residents fled after their homes were burned. Survivors, some arriving at the overcrowded Zamzam camp for war victims, described the violence.

Mubarak Seneen, a human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
activist muppet in Zamzam camp, told Sudan Tribune: "Since last Thursday, RSF and allied militias launched a massive attack on these villages west of El Fasher. It lasted three days, killing at least 15 and injuring many. Darmaa was completely burned, displacing its residents who arrived here in dire humanitarian conditions."

The attackers accused villagers of loyalty to the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Minni Minawi. Sudan Tribune could not reach RSF spokespersons for comment.

These attacks on Zaghawa villages, a traditional Minawi stronghold, come days after Minawi declared his forces ready to fight the RSF to defend civilians.

Fears of large-scale ethnic violence between Zaghawa and Arab groups are rising, fueled by escalating tensions between RSF and pro-army movements in North Darfur.

Tambour threatens to fight rival groups over new joint force
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Mustafa Tambour threatened to fight two other rebel groups if they formed a new joint force in Darfur.

The Sudan Liberation Movement — Transitional Council (SLM-TC), led by al-Hadi Idris, and the Gathering of Sudan Liberation Forces (GSLF), led by al-Tahir Hajer, plan to create a force to deliver humanitarian aid in conflict-ridden Darfur.

This comes after SLM leader Minni Minawi and Justice and Equality leader Gibril Ibrahim sided with the Sudanese army against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group. Meanwhile,
...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout Montefiore's foot was still stuck and the hound had completely soaked his uniform with slobber...
the two others stick to their neutrality vis-à-vis the two belligerents.

Tambour, who is aligned with the army, threatened to fight the SLM-TC and GSLF if they formed a joint force. In statements to Sudan Tribune, he claims his forces in El Fasher are ready to fight alongside the army against "rebels and supporting groups."

Tambour accused the RSF of pushing for a new military force after suffering battlefield defeats.

He downplays the SLM-TC and GSLF’s influence, calling them RSF-aligned "militias" with no ability to fight the army.

In response to Tambour’s statements, GSLF leader al-Tahir Hajer dismissed Tambour’s threats, stating that the joint force would be formed regardless.

"My dear Tambour, underestimating us is a mistake. The joint force will be established regardless of your objections or those you represent. Focus on your own actions, for the battlefield awaits, and our resolve is unwavering."

Idris and Hajer, who were removed from the Sovereign Council for refusing to support the army, have maintained neutrality in the ongoing conflict.

. But it has largely banned public protests, and criticism of the country’s ties with Israel is highly sensitive.

Egypt has also kept its border with Gaza largely closed and stopped Paleostinians from fleeing Gaza.

On Wednesday, nearly 200 people rallied outside the building of the Journalist Syndicate in Cairo, waving the Paleostinian flag and chanting slogans: "What a disgrace! Egypt is helping the siege!" and "No to the Israeli Embassy! No to normalization." They also raised banners reading "Open the Rafah crossing" and "Glory to the Paleostinian resistance."

Government critics have called for Egypt to overturn a 2007 agreement that grants Israel the right to inspect convoys entering Gaza through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt. They say it has allowed Israel to keep the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza’s 2.3 million Paleostinians at a trickle.

Later Wednesday, 10 activists who took part in the protest were arrested at their homes, and the next day prosecutors ordered their detention for 15 days while investigations were carried out, according to their lawyer Nabeh Elganadi.

They were charged with spreading false information and joining a terror group — usually a reference to the banned Moslem Brüderbund — charges that are frequently used against critics of the government.

Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, when Hamas Death Eaters swarmed across the Israeli border killing some 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and taking 253 hostages, Egyptian authorities have arrested dozens of pro-Gaza protesters, according to a report issued by the rights group Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.

Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a report of an incident at almost the same point where the captain of a vessel reported two missiles in the vicinity of the ship that did not cause damage.

It was unclear whether Ambrey and UKMTO were reporting the same incident as they did not name any vessels in their updates.

One of the missiles mentioned in UKMTO’s advisory note was intercepted by coalition forces defending commercial shipping in the region, it said. The second hit the water a distance from the vessel, it added.

There was no damage to the vessel and the crew were reported safe, UKMTO said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the reported attack.

Baku and Yerevan report intense shelling on the border
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The defense departments of Armenia and Azerbaijan reported intense shelling last night in a number of directions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, over the past 24 hours, units of the Azerbaijani army came under fire 30 times from Armenian military personnel.

The Armenian military fired at the Azerbaijani military from positions located in the direction of the settlements of Myusurskend in the Tovuzgalinsky district, Ashagi Shorja, Yukhari Shorja, Gunashli in the Basarkechyar region and Aravus in the Goris region, the ministry reported today on its website.

The shelling was carried out on April 5 from 21.55 to 23.20 [20.55 – 22.20 Moscow time] on Azerbaijani positions located in the direction of the settlements of Alibeyli in the Tovuz region, Khoshbulag in the Dashkesan region, Yellidzha, Zyaylik in the Kalbajar region and Chagazur in the Lachin region, the message specifies.

The Armenian defense department stated today on its website that on the night of April 6, the Azerbaijani military fired small arms at the positions of Armenian soldiers in a number of directions in the border zone with varying intensity.

The fire was directed towards the villages of Sotk, Verin Shorzha, Kut (Gegharkunik region), Aravus (Syunik region), Chinari and Movses (Tavush region), the report said.

“The overwhelming majority of shots fired by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the night were untargeted and indiscriminate,” the ministry clarified.

The " Caucasian Knot " also wrote that on March 31, Azerbaijan accused Armenia of amassing military equipment to the contact line. Yerevan denied information about accumulations of armored vehicles and artillery on the border with Azerbaijan, while accusing Baku of disinformation and publishing mounted footage. On April 2 and April 5, Baku and Yerevan  accused each other  of shelling positions.

Incendiary device hurled at German synagogue door, causing minor damage
[IsraelTimes] An incendiary device was thrown at a door of a synagogue in northwestern Germany on Friday but caused only minor damage, police said. No one was injured.

The incident in the city of Oldenburg happened early Friday afternoon. The fire was discovered quickly and didn’t spread, and the fire service didn’t need to extinguish it. No event was taking place in the building at the time.

Police said they were searching for the perpetrator but had no information on a motive.

Police chief Andreas Sagehorn condemned the "cowardly act" and said in a statement that "we will take this attack as grounds to raise the security measures at the Oldenburg synagogue immediately" while the investigation is ongoing.

Turkey arrests two more people suspected of spying for Israel
[IsraelTimes] Detention latest in a string of arrests in Turkey of people accused of passing information to the Mossad.

Ottoman Turkish authorities have arrested two people suspected of providing information to Israel’s Mossad spy agency, a top official said Friday, in the latest in a series of such arrests in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
Ottoman Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the suspects allegedly gathered information about people and companies of interest to Israel and passed on the data and documents to Israeli intelligence officials.

Six other people who were also detained in the operation, codenamed "Mole-3," were released following questioning, Yerlikaya said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"We will never allow espionage activities that target our national unity and solidarity to take place within the borders of our country," Yerlikaya said.

The minister did not provide further information on the suspects. Dozens of people, including private detectives, have been detained in Turkey since January on suspicion of spying for Israel, mostly on Paleostinians living in Turkey.

Reiterating the security forces' resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism, the statement also stated that a sanitisation operation was being carried out in the area to eliminate any other Death Eaters found in the vicinity.

Earlier this week, The News reported that as many as 22 alleged Death Eaters linked with different banned outfits were apprehended by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) during operations in different areas of Punjab.

Before that, the department had also arrested more than 10 Death Eaters and controllers involved in the suicide kaboom on Chinese engineers in Shangla's Bisham city which resulted in the death of five Chinese citizens and a Pak driver, Geo News had reported citing sources.

The incident prompted a strong reaction from the military which vowed to ensure all those involved in aiding terrorism, directly or indirectly, are held accountable and find their due comeuppance.

Security forces have been regularly carrying out anti-terror ops amid a significant surge in terrorist attacks across the country in recent months.

SECURITY REPORT
The latest terror attack is a grim reminder that the security situation in the provinces bordering Afghanistan is precarious.

A quarterly report issued by the Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) noted the worsening security situation in KP and Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
The report stated that at least 92% of all fatalities and 86% of attacks, including those related to terrorism and security forces operations, were recorded in the two provinces in the first quarter of 2024.

These key findings were revealed in the Q1 2024 Security Report issued by the think-tank, detailing that the country witnessed at least 432 violence-linked fatalities and 370 injuries among civilians, security personnel and outlaws resulting from as many as 245 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations.

Among the 432 fatalities, 281 included that of civilians and security forces personnel.

The KP and Balochistan province alone have accounted for 51% and 41% of the total fatalities in Q1, 2024, respectively. The data indicates that the remaining regions were relatively peaceful, suffering less than 8% of all deaths.

In addition to the casualties related to terrorism and counter-terrorism, 64 incidents of sabotage in the country, targeting properties of the government, politicians, private properties, and security properties were also recorded.

Percentage surged in violence, with the number of fatalities jumping to 178 from 91 in October to December — the fourth quarter of 2023. The Sindh province also saw a nearly 47% rise in violence, however, the number of fatalities was very low.

Four soldiers killed fighting in southern Gaza as war on Hamas hits six-month mark
[IsraelTimes] Attackers emerge from tunnel, ambush troops, then escape; 604 soldiers killed since start of war on October 7, 260 of them during ground operation; 3,193 injured

The Israel Defense Forces announced Sunday the deaths of four soldiers during fighting against the Paleostinian terror group Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, in the southern Gazoo

Strip the day before.

Their deaths came as the IDF marked six months since the war on Hamas began with the terror group’s massive October attack on Israel.

The four soldiers were named as:

  • Cpt. Ido Baruch, 21, a commander at the Commando Brigade’s training base, from Tel Mond.

  • Sgt. Amitai Even Shoshan, 20, of the Commando Brigade’s training base, from Azri’el.

  • Sgt. Ilai Zair, 20, of the Commando Brigade’s training base, from Kedar.

  • Sgt. Reef Harush, 20, of the Commando Brigade’s training base, from Kibbutz Ramat David.

Their deaths brought the toll of slain troops in the ground offensive against Hamas to 260.

The four were killed Saturday when button men came out of a tunnel in a destroyed building and shot up troops carrying out a patrol along the IDF’s logistics route in Khan Younis, according to an initial military probe. The operatives apparently managed to flee back into the tunnel.

Soldiers who tried to pursue the attackers noticed that the escape route was booby-trapped and therefore held back.

A tank came under RPG fire from another cell in the area, though there were no injuries in that attack. The tank returned fire, killing members of the second cell, according to the IDF’s probe.

Hamas is known to have dug hundreds of kilometers of tunnels under Gaza as part of its military infrastructure.

Also Saturday, two soldiers of the 401st Armored Brigade’s 46th Battalion were seriously maimed in the central Gaza Strip, the IDF said.

The troops were maimed in an accident involving a tank shell that went kaboom! inside the vehicle, according to an initial IDF probe.

The war erupted on October 7 when Hamas led a cross-border attack killing 1,200 people in southern Israel and abducting 253 people to the Gaza.

Israel responded with a military campaign to topple the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip, destroy the terror group, and free the hostages.

-based terror group Hezbollah began attacks along Israel’s northern border, saying it is acting in support of Gaza. That fighting there has steadily escalated, raising concerns it could boil over into another major war on a second front.

As the country marked half a year of war against Hamas, the IDF published new data Sunday on its operations in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Lebanon, from the number of terror operatives killed to the number of sites struck.

A total of 604 soldiers, reservists, and local security officers have been killed and 3,193 have been maimed since October 7. Of them, 260 were killed and 1,552 were maimed during the ground offensive in Gaza.

The IDF also listed 41 soldiers killed due to friendly fire in Gaza and other military-related accidents.

According to the data, more than 13,000 Hamas operatives and members of other terror groups have been killed by the IDF in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war, in addition to some 1,000 turbans inside Israel on October 7.

The Hamas-run health ministry says over 33,000 Paleostinians have been killed in Gaza, though the figure cannot be independently verified and is believed to include both civilians and Hamas members, including those killed as a consequence of terror groups’ own rocket misfires.

The IDF’s data said the military has killed five Hamas brigade commanders and those of equivalent rank, as well as more than 20 battalion commanders. More than 100 Hamas company commanders and operatives with a similar rank have been killed, according to the data.

In Lebanon, the IDF said it has killed more than 330 terror operatives, mostly members of Hezbollah. The number includes 30 commanders in the Iran-backed group, according to the IDF.

Some 32,000 targets have been struck in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war, including more than 3,600 that were discovered as Hamas sites during the fighting.

In Lebanon, around 4,700 Hezbollah positions have been hit, according to the IDF’s data.

Since the beginning of the war, some 9,100 projectiles fired from Gaza crossed the border into Israel, alongside 3,100 from Lebanon and around 35 from Syria. The figures do not include rockets — said by Israel to be at least in the hundreds — launched by Gazook terror groups that misfired and landed inside terror groups that misfired and landed inside the Strip.

The IDF said the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 has interrogated some 4,600 Palestinian suspects in the Gaza Strip, many of whom were arrested and brought to Israel for questioning.

Since October 7, in the West Bank, the IDF said troops have arrested more than 3,700 wanted Palestinians, including more than 1,600 affiliated with Hamas. Another 420 gunmen have been killed by troops in the West Bank, the IDF says.

The IDF said 70 brigade-level raids have been carried out in the West Bank, and 19 homes of Palestinians accused of terrorism have been demolished.

Meanwhile, the fighting in the Gaza Strip brought with it a major humanitarian crisis, with aid supplies, which are usually trucked in, greatly curtailed by the fighting.

International concern has spiraled and mounted pressure on Israel, as the United Nations and aid agencies warn of looming famine in Gaza. The deaths of seven international aid workers in an Israeli strike last week sharpened calls for Israel to do more to enable and protect aid supplies.

A British Royal Navy ship will supply aid to Gaza as part of an international effort to help set up a new humanitarian maritime corridor in early May, the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defense said Saturday. The multinational effort, involving the United States, Cyprus, and other partners, will develop a new temporary pier off the coast of Gaza, British Foreign Minister David Cameron said.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Saturday the “terrible” war between Israel and Hamas “must end.”

“We continue to stand by Israel’s right to defeat the threat from Hamas terrorists and defend their security. But the whole of the UK is shocked by the bloodshed,” he said in a statement.

Jerusalem police say they thwarted suspected stabbing attack in Old City
[IsraelTimes] Large knife found strapped to body of 17-year-old Palestinian, cops say; suspect, who was illegally in Israel, posted on social media: ’No satisfaction without heaven’

A 17-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank was arrested near Jerusalem’s Old City on Saturday, suspected of intending to carry out a stabbing attack, police said.

Police frisked the young man due to his "suspicious behavior," discovering a large knife taped to his body. After an interrogation, law enforcement concluded that the suspect intended to execute a terror plot, finding he had posted beforehand on social media: "The important thing is that I end my life content, because there is no satisfaction besides heaven."

According to police, the terror suspect is from Birzeit, north of Ramallah, and was illegally in Israel.

A video released by police showed the suspect loitering in the shade at the top of a staircase, when a border police officer in full gear exited an adjacent building and drew close to the suspect. Three more officers moved in as the first one pulled the young man into a bind. The video then shows the suspect, face blurred, escorted into a police station.

The arrest on Saturday followed a tense but largely peaceful final weekend of Islam’s holy month of Ramadan. The final Friday of Ramadan saw some 120,000 people attend prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount.

Throughout the weekend, police arrested some two dozen people for pro-Hamas chants and attacking police officers, but the prayers were otherwise peacefully dispersed.

Ramadan’s relatively uneventful end allayed Israeli security forces’ fears that the perennially fraught holy month would see violence in Israel exacerbated due to the Gaza war.

IDF says it blew up Hamas tunnel that stretched hundreds of meters into Israel
[IsraelTimes] Underground route was discovered in 2019 but never disclosed to the public; military had repeatedly claimed no tunnels entered Israel since construction of underground barrier

The Israel Defense Forces announced Saturday that it had destroyed three major Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, attack tunnels in the Khan Younis area of southern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
— including one that entered several hundred meters into Israeli territory — which it said had been under Israeli surveillance in recent years.

The revelation came as a shock to residents of border communities and news hounds, as the IDF has for years claimed that no tunnels from the Gaza Strip have crossed into Israel since the construction of Israel’s underground border barrier, completed in 2021 (some tunnels have been located on the Gaza side of the underground barrier, technically several meters into Israeli territory).

The tunnel that passed hundreds of meters into Israel was first found in 2019 during the construction work on the new border barrier, the IDF said.

The IDF said the passage that entered Israel had remained under "secret" surveillance and control since its discovery.

"Sensors and explosives were placed in [the tunnel] in order to be used by the IDF if needed, as part of a special operation against the underground network of the Hamas terror organization," the military said.

The IDF said the tunnel was struck numerous times amid the war, alongside other operations to render the section that entered Israeli territory inoperable.

The rest of the tunnel was blown up in recent weeks, it said Saturday.

According to the IDF, the tunnel was not used by Hamas during the October 7 onslaught and remained under intense surveillance amid the war.

Another of the three tunnels was first uncovered a decade ago, and during the 2021 Gaza war it was targeted in an Arclight airstrike
Arclight airstrike" valign=top style='float:right;padding:5px;border:0px solid silver;' />...KABOOM!...
, killing several Hamas operatives, the IDF said.

At the beginning of the current war, the same tunnel was struck at several locations, preventing it from being used. It was blown up within the past few weeks, according to the IDF.

The third tunnel was first found in 2014, and at the time crossed into Israeli territory and was later destroyed. The IDF said Hamas did not work to fix the tunnel, and in recent weeks another section of the underground passage, deeper inside Gaza, was blown up.

In January, senior Israeli defense officials estimated to The New York Times

... which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

that Hamas’s vast tunnel network within Gaza runs a total of 350-400 miles long, much more than previously believed. The tunnels are believed to be accessed by some 5,700 shafts.

The IDF said Hamas had used more than 6,000 tons of concrete and 1,800 tons of steel and likely invested tens of millions of dollars into the project.

Since launching a ground offensive in the wake of the October 7 massacres, in which Hamas-led Lions of Islam killed some 1,200 people and took 253 hostages, Israeli forces have worked to destroy the tunnels, uncovering more and more of the underground network.

Car rams protesters, wounding 5, as large crowds demand hostage deal in Tel Aviv
[IsraelTimes] Tens of thousands also rally against government, call for new elections at nationwide protests marking since six months since October 7; police retract claim officer was punched

Marking six months since Hamas
...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
’s October 7 onslaught, demonstrators turned out Saturday night for weekly rallies across Israel to protest against the current government, demand elections and an immediate hostage deal.

Tel Aviv’s massive anti-government rally, which was attended by tens of thousands of protesters, saw some demonstrators skirmish with police, with at least five arrests. There was also a car-ramming in the city that injured five demonstrators, an incident that drew broad condemnations and concerns over deepening societal tensions as the war launched in response to the Hamas attack grinds on. The higher turnout in Tel Aviv this week prompted organizers to hold the protest at Democracy Square, the intersection of Begin and Kaplan Streets, which last year became iconic for its role as the backdrop to the anti-judicial overhaul protests each Saturday night prior to October 7. According to an estimate by Channel 13 news , some 45,000 people protested in Tel Aviv on Saturday night, while organizers claimed 100,000 were in attendance. Thousands more joined the call for new elections in Jerusalem, Haifa and some dozens of other cities and towns across the country, including Caesarea, where protesters rallied outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private home.

In Tel Aviv, swaths of protesters carrying Israeli flags and signs against the current government chanted "Elad, we’re sorry," mourning slain hostage Elad Katzir, whose body was recovered in an operation announced by the IDF earlier in the day. The army said Katzir was murdered in mid-January by Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
.

After the speeches ended in Democracy Square, masses of protesters marched to Begin Street, where skirmishes broke out between police and some demonstrators. During the festivities, The Times of Israel witnessed one protester being forcefully arrested.

One officer had her nose broken by a protester who was shoved by another officer, falling backwards and accidentally hitting her face with his elbow. Law enforcement released a statement charging the protester had punched her in the face, but later retracted claim, acknowledging the demonstrator did not act with "malicious intent" after a video of the incident was shared widely online.

As a group of protesters proceeded northward on Begin Street, they marched toward the headquarters of the powerful Histadrut labor federation on Arlozorov Street instead of attempting to block Ayalon Highway, as is typical on Saturday nights.

Outside the union building, demonstrators lit a bonfire and chanted "Strike now!" demanding that chairman Arnon Bar-David declare a large-scale strike to pressure the government into agreeing to a deal for the release of the hostages. The union chief declared a day-long strike last year in opposition to the government’s judicial overhaul efforts, a move joined by airport workers at Ben Gurion Airport and numerous other labor organizations.

At around 10 p.m, a driver briefly got out of his car to curse the protesters before being waved on by police. He then suddenly tore through the crowd with his car, hitting five people, including a 50-year-old woman who was moderately injured and taken to Ichilov Hospital. The four others endured minor injuries.

According to police, law enforcement managed to stop and arrest the driver soon after he accelerated his vehicle into the crowd. He was later identified as a former soccer player and coach. The incident was denounced by numerous Israeli leaders, who warned against a return to the political and societal tensions that roiled the country before the October 7 atrocities.

Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi of Netanyahu’s Likud party said Israel’s civil discourse has tanked, which he blamed on "leftist leaders, inside and outside the coalition."

"Don’t run over protesters. Period. Don’t attack coppers, period. Don’t throw burning torches at the prime minister’s house. Period," wrote Karhi on X in reference to protests in Jerusalem which have turned rowdy.

"Even if the reality of allowing disturbances and blocking the roads is intolerable, one must exercise restraint and be very careful," he continued. "This deterioration to October 6, let by leftist leaders, inside and outside the coalition, does not help anyone and tears us apart in the middle of a war."

The protest in Tel Aviv continued until around midnight, when it was dispersed. Police arrested four protesters on Arlozorov Street. One protester, an elderly man, was knocked down by a police horse.

In Haifa, Carmit Palty Katzir, the sister of slain hostage Elad Katzir, gave a speech in which she blamed the government for the death of her brother. The People’s Protest, a Haifa group behind the march, published her statement on Facebook just ahead of the demonstration.

At the hostages’ families protest in Jerusalem, which numbered around 2,000 people, organizer Tom Barkai quoted Palty-Katzir in her opening speech outside the Prime Minister’s Residence.

The order of the two protests held in Jerusalem was flipped this week, with hundreds of protesters starting at the hostages’ families rally before marching to the President’s Residence to hear from explicitly anti-government activists and speakers. The two rallies were relatively muted, and the crowd outside the President’s Residence dispersed almost immediately after speeches ended.

Outside the President’s Residence, attorney Nitzan Caspi Shilony called for new elections and derided the government’s use of the term "unity," which she accused politicians of using as a tool to deride the protests against the current government.

In Caesarea, protesters demanding elections and Netanyahu’s resignation flanked police barricades while demonstrating a few hundred meters from the his private residence. At least one person was detained.

Separately, some 300 people attended a rally at Sha’ar Hanegev Junction near Sderot. Unlike most other rallies on Saturday, organizers of the protest in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council described their agenda as nonpartisan. The rally "commemorates six months since the war broke out" and the fact that some 130 people are "held hostage in Gazoo

," organizers wrote.

On Sunday, April 7, many demonstrators were expected to gather once again in Jerusalem for a protest in front of the Knesset building under the slogan: "National victory = the return of the hostages." Ahead of the event, organizers were arranging rides to Jerusalem from across the country.

Strip that Israel struck Hezbollah positions in the Baalbek area.

The IDF said the strikes came in response to the terror group shooting down a military drone over southern Lebanon on Saturday with a surface-to-air missile.

Hezbollah initially said it downed an Elbit Hermes 450, but later claimed it was a Hermes 900 model. Both drones are used by the IDF for surveillance and attacks.

The IDF said the incident was under further investigation.

In February, Hezbollah managed to shoot down a Hermes 450 drone, prompting IDF strikes deep in Lebanon for the first time in years.

Additional Hezbollah sites were targeted on Saturday night in Ayta ash-Shab and Odaisseh, the military added.

The military statement said its jets also struck several locations used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, and a jet attacked a person doing "drone observation activity" near the border.

Friday's violence comes as Israel has been trading fire almost daily with Hezbollah and other Lebanese bully boy groups for months. The attack on Amal was the first Israeli attack on Marjeyoun, a large town in southeastern Lebanon, since the latest round of cross-border festivities began on Oct. 8.

If Israel has ceased its attack on Rafa (as announced today) the citizens of Marjayoun can breathe more easily. The invasion of that region of Lebanon will also have been called off.
