Chad goes to polls to vote for a new president
[AFRICANEWS] Candidates in Chad delivered their final campaigning messages on Saturday ahead of the country’s first presidential vote since the death of long time ruler Idriss Deby.

Success Masra, currently prime minister of the interim government, is one the main challengers.

Speaking to supporters in the capital, N'Djamena, the former African Development Bank executive promised young people a better future and the creation of more jobs.

A "minimum package of dignity" in his programme includes an ambitious five-year plan to create 200,000 jobs, divided equally between the private and public sectors.

Masra’s grassroots campaign has also promised to deal with other urgent issues like access to electricity, water, and security for all.

“We would like to live in a country at peace and reconciled, so the victory on the horizon is not that of one side against another, but that of all the people of Chad. The victory of the hope of peace, the victory of an enthusiastic future over a difficult past,” he said.

Chad's interim president the favourite as the country goes to the polls

[Africanews] As Chad goes to the polls on Monday, it is widely believed that incumbent President General Mahamat Idriss Deby will win easily.

He seized power three years ago after his father, Idriss Déby Itno, was killed, apparently on the battlefield fighting rebels trying to overthrow his government.

Deby senior had ruled Chad with an iron fist for three decades.

A career soldier, the new president promised to hold elections within 18 months, but his government postponed the poll and allowed him to run for president.

It has said the election will return the country to constitutional rule, but opposition groups say they have no doubt the poll will be rigged.

Deby is backed by the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) party.

Growing concern as DRC prosecutors open judicial inquiry against Cardinal
[AFRICANEWS] There is growing concern after prosecutors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Prosecutors says his comments were likely to discourage soldiers in the east and encourage mistreatment by the rebels fighting them.

Fleeing California
Many people have been leaving California in recent years, with over 343,000 residents departing the state in 2022 alone. The exodus is not a new phenomenon, as California has been struggling with resident retention for 20 years. The cost of living is a major reason why many people are fleeing, with 4 in 10 Californians considering moving out of state due to the high cost of living.

High-income earners are also joining the exodus, with 220,000 leaving California in 2021. This could have a significant impact on the state’s treasury, as the top 1% of earners pay nearly 50% of the state income taxes.

Some of the destinations for those leaving California include other states with lower costs of living, such as Texas, Arizona, and Nevada. However, the reasons for leaving California are not limited to the cost of living, as people are also citing issues like rising home prices, stagnant wages, and crime.

Despite the challenges, many people still appreciate California’s diversity and are happy with their decision to live there. A statewide poll found that 70% of respondents expressed high levels of happiness with living in California and applauded the state for its diversity.

Politico mocked for being surprised on who is funding anti-Israel protests: 'Surprising to who?'
[NYPOST] Anti-Israel protesters who have descended on college campuses are reportedly getting funding from several big-name Democratic donors, according to a report, that have backed President Biden’s re-election efforts.

Democratic donors such as George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...

...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
war, Politico reported.

Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow are the main organizations behind the anti-Israel protests at Columbia University, as well as other campuses, according to the outlet.

They are backed by the Tides Foundation, which receives a substantial amount of funding from Soros, as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, and distributes money to left-wing causes.

The Rockefeller Fund donated $300,000 to the Tides Foundation in 2022, according to Politico.

The Tides Foundation has given $500,000 to Jewish Voice for Peace, a far-left, anti-Zionist organization, who blamed the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel and the US, rather than Hamas.

The Politico report, headlined, "Pro-Palestianian protesters are backed by a surprising source: Biden’s biggest donors," was panned online Sunday for finally acknowledging what others had reported months ago.

She early grasped the idea that others would take her thoughts more seriously if she presented them with proper grammar and spelling, rather than assuming she didn’t know what she was doing because of such surface considerations. So much sense did this make to her that in high school she edited all her friends’ writings to ensure they got the grades their work deserved, too. I was so proud!

#10  BTW, the funders of illegal protests, trespassing, destruction of property and so forth are not probably being investigated by the FBI. This is because those funders also fund Democratic party candidates.

This was the case with groups funding the protests against the police training facility in Fulton County Atlanta. Many of them were active in funding Democrat candidates in GA or funding activists like Stacy A. in her various orgs.

Radical anti-Israel nonprofit urged rampaging Columbia occupiers to recreate BLM 'summer of 2020' riots
[NYPOST] The anti-Israel protesters who stormed Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall were urged by a radical activist group to rekindle the bloody Black Lives Matter riots of the summer of 2020, a new report says.

Furiously pumping the bellows is New York City nonprofit The People’s Forum (TPF), an anti-Israel organization with known ties to the Chinese Communist Party and backed by American businessman Neville Roy Singham, a self-described socialist known for financially supporting left-wing causes through Goldman Sachs’ charity arm.

At a Monday night meeting in Manhattan hosted by TPF — hours before the infamous building takeover — around 100 mask-wearing activists were worked into a lather by the organization’s executive director, Manolo De Los Santos, who called for a "final blow to destroy Israel" in a viral video earlier this year.
Eh? How is violent revolution in one tiny corner of New York City going to behead a nation of 8 million on the other side of the world?
Addressing the group, De Los Santos spewed invective about Columbia’s "Zionist" administration, whom he skewered for wanting "to be more like their masters in Israel," the Washington Free Beacon wrote.

Hamas says latest cease-fire talks have ended. Israel vows military operation in 'very near future'
[10News] Nike: "Just Do It"
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the key Hamas demands “extreme” — including the withdrawal of Israel forces from Gaza and an end to the war.

The latest round of Gaza cease-fire talks ended in Cairo after “in-depth and serious discussions,” the Hamas militant group said Sunday, reiterating key demands that Israel again rejected. After signs of progress, the outlook appeared to dim.

Israel closed its main crossing point for delivering badly needed humanitarian aid for Gaza after Hamas attacked it. The defense minister claimed Hamas wasn't serious about a deal and warned of “a powerful operation in the very near future in Rafah and other places across all of Gaza."

Israel didn't send a delegation to the talks mediated by Egypt and Qatar, and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that “we see signs that Hamas does not intend to go to any agreement." Egyptian state media reported that the Hamas delegation went for discussions in Qatar, where the group has a political office, and will return to Cairo for further negotiations on Tuesday.

Another threat to talks came as Israel ordered the local offices of Qatar’s Al Jazeera satellite news network to close, accusing it of broadcasting anti-Israel incitement. The ban did not appear to affect the channel’s operations in Gaza or the West Bank.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, under pressure from hard-liners in his government, continued to lower expectations for a cease-fire deal, calling the key Hamas demands “extreme” — including the withdrawal of Israel forces from Gaza and an end to the war. That would equal surrender after the Hamas attack on Oct. 7 that triggered the fighting, Netanyahu said.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a statement earlier said the militant group was serious and positive about the negotiations and that stopping Israeli aggression in Gaza is the main priority.

But Israel's government again vowed to press on with a military operation in Rafah, the southernmost Gaza city on the border with Egypt where more than half of Gaza's 2.3 million residents now seek shelter from Israeli attacks. Rafah is a key entry point for aid.

Kerem Shalom, now closed, is another. The Israeli military reported 10 projectiles were launched at the crossing in southern Israel and said its fighter jets later struck the source. Hamas said it had been targeting Israeli soldiers in the area. Israel’s Channel 12 TV channel said 10 people were wounded, three seriously. It was unclear how long the crossing would be closed.

The head of the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini, called for an independent investigation and “accountability for the blatant disregard of humanitarian workers.” He also said Israel this week denied him entry to Gaza for a second time.

The closing of Kerem Shalom came shortly after the head of the U.N. World Food Program asserted “full-blown famine” in devastated northern Gaza, one of the most prominent warnings yet of the toll of restrictions on food and other aid entering the territory. The comments were not a formal famine declaration.

In expanded remarks as the full NBC interview was released Sunday, WFP chief Cindy McCain said famine was “moving its way south” in Gaza and that Israel's efforts to allow in more aid were not enough. “We need more ability to be able to get more trucks in,” she said. “We have right now a mass on the outside border, about enough trucks and enough food for 1.1 million people for about three months. We need to get that in."

Gaza's vast humanitarian needs put further pressure on the pursuit of a cease-fire. The proposal that Egyptian mediators had put to Hamas sets out a three-stage process that would bring an immediate, six-week cease-fire and partial release of Israeli hostages taken in the Oct. 7 attack, and would include some sort of Israeli pullout. The initial stage would last for 40 days. Hamas would start by releasing female civilian hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

Netanyahu claimed that Israel has shown willingness to make concessions but said it "will continue fighting until all of its objectives are achieved.” That includes the stated aim of crushing Hamas. Israel says it must target Rafah to strike remaining fighters there despite warnings from the U.S. and others about the danger to civilians.

An Israeli strike Sunday on the al-Attar family house in an urban refugee camp near Rafah killed four children, including a baby, and two adults, according to Abu Youssef al-Najjar Hospital.

In later remarks for Israel’s annual Holocaust memorial day, Netanyahu added: "We will defend ourselves in every way. We will overcome our enemies and we will ensure our security — in the Gaza Strip, on the Lebanese border, everywhere.”

The Hamas cross-border attack on Oct. 7 killed some 1,200 people and took 250 others hostage. Israel says militants still hold around 100 hostages and the remains of more than 30 others. Netanyahu is under growing pressure from some hostages' families to make a deal to end the war and get hostages freed.

Israeli's air and ground offensive has killed over 34,500 people, according to Palestinian health officials, who don't differentiate between civilians and combatants but say women and children make up a majority of those killed.

Israel blames Hamas for civilian deaths, accusing it of embedding in residential and public areas. The Israeli military says it has killed 13,000 militants, without providing evidence to back up the claim.

USMC - Half the drones Israel shoots down are their own
[Jpost] Since the IDF has one of the world's most advanced integrated air defense systems, if this is an issue for Israel’s military, it is likely to be an issue for other militaries worldwide.

The IDF is shooting down a significant number of its own drones in the course of operations, The War Zone (TWZ) reported Thursday, citing a US Marine Corps official.

According to Marine Lt.-Col. Michael Pruden, the IDF destroyed 40% of its own uncrewed aerial systems (UAS).

Pruden is head of the Marine Air Command and Control Integration Branch of the Air Combat Element Division within the service's Combat Development and Integration Command (CD&I).

"Something interesting that comes from Israel, 40 percent, 40 percent (this figure was repeated for emphasis), of the UASs ... knocked out" by Israel are instances of "friendly fire," Pruden said during a talk at the annual Modern Day Marine exposition on Wednesday.

He did not provide any additional details of this statistic, including a timeframe, according to TWZ. However, he did imply that this data comes from operations in the Gaza Strip in the current war against Hamas.

While discussing possible reasons for this number of friendly drones that are knocked down, Pruden said, "As Israel's engaging in Gaza, and they're on their front line, they see a small UAS; what are they going to do if it's not identified immediately? They're going to shoot it down."

Pruden said this is the default course of action because the time between when a drone might be detected and when it could execute an attack is usually measured in "seconds."

IDF HAS PREVIOUSLY ACKNOWLEDGED ACCIDENTAL KNOCKDOWNS OF ITS OWN DRONES
Pruden clarified that the IDF has also previously acknowledged accidental knockdowns of its drones. Since the IDF has one of the world's most advanced integrated air defense systems, if this is an issue for Israel’s military, it will likely be an issue for other militaries worldwide.

The US Marine official highlighted a related communication issue in the US military. "How am I putting a small UAS in the sky, thousands of these things, and not telling anybody about it, especially your ground-based air defense and counter-UAS [elements]?"

Pruden sees these mistaken interceptions as a problem that will only increase as the number of drones flying through the air increases in volume.

Israel’s current defense system includes Arrow 3, an exoatmospheric hypersonic anti-ballistic missile, and Arrow 2, an endoatmospheric anti-ballistic missile built by Israel Aerospace Industries. Below them are David's Sling and the Iron Dome, made by Rafael.

The laser air defense system, the Iron Beam, will join as another line of defense. In this system, Rafael plays a critical role as the developer of the launcher, while Elbit is the supplier of the laser itself. With the help of a laser beam with a power of about 100 kilowatts, the system is designed to intercept rockets and various drones. However, if the detection system does not improve, this system could also intercept friendly drones.

Israel bans Al Jazeera over Gaza war coverage
[NEWARAB] The cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has on Sunday unanimously decided to shut down news channel Al Jazeera’s operations within Israel, a government statement announced.

"The government under my leadership has unanimously decided: the incitement channel Al Jazeera will be shut down in Israel," Netanyahu’s statement read on X.

Netanyahu authorised Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi to immediately order the cessation of the channel's broadcasts in Israel, in both Arabic and English.

The ban will also force Al Jazeera to close its offices in Israel, with Karhi ordering the confiscation of equipment used by its personnel to broadcast, as reported by Haaretz.

Access to the network's website will now be blocked from within Israel.

The head of Al Jazeera in Israel and the Paleostinian territories described the Israeli government's decision to shutter the station's local operations as "dangerous" and motivated by politics rather than professional considerations.

Al Jazeera's legal team was preparing a response, Walid Omary told Rooters, in possible anticipation of a court appeal against the decision.

The move to ban Al Jazeera has been under consideration for some time, with Israel’s hostility toward the Qatar

Bereaved father: "We are committed to our son's will"
[IsraelNationalNews] Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Weizen, father of Amichai who fell in battle in Kerem Shalom, addressed the IDF hesitating to enter Rafah and claimed that the waiting is wrong.

"We don’t have the strength to speak but we are incapable of remaining silent", he said in an interview to 'Kol Chai' radio. "We don’t understand or interfere in military decisions but we can’t forgive ourselves for the fact our son went out to protect the residents of Kerem Shalom while the residents of the kibbutz can’t return home."

According to him, a decisive campaign in Gaza means one thing - complete Israeli control over the entire Strip.

"From our side, a decisive victory will manifest as absolute military rule over all parts of the Strip. It is already difficult, to think that in some time they would suddenly decide to enter Rafah?"

"Now is the time and it is forbidden to hesitate and miss the opportunity. We are committed to our son’s will, that is our call. When David heard of King Saul's fall, he called ’to teach the sons of Judah the bow’, we must have the strength."

Foreign Ministry: Washington's black record in human rights does not allow it to give lessons to countries
That's called a "tu quoque" fallacy, right?
[SANA.SY] Syria affirmed that the United States’ black record in the field of human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
does not allow it to accuse other countries, evaluate them, or give them lessons, calling on it to review and reverse its destructive policies, put an end to its violations of international law, and stop interfering in the affairs of other countries and destabilizing their security and stability.

"The US State Department recently issued its new shameful and misleading report on human rights in all countries of the world, as an attempt by successive US administrations to put itself as guardian of human rights around the world, and to cover up its own violations of human rights, the latest of which is the violent mostly peaceful repression and silencing campaigns that targeted university students and professors demanding an end to the Israeli aggression on Gazoo
Islamic Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response. In October of 2023 Gazooks belonging to Hamas invaded Israel, killed over a thousand people, raped a bunch of women. Then they bitched and moaned about genocide when their butts handed to them in the entirely justified retaliation.
," Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The Ministry stressed that the United States’ black record in the field of human rights does not qualify it to accuse other countries, evaluate them, or give lessons, as its history is full of the most heinous forms of violations of human and peoples’ rights.

It added that the Syrian people have suffered and are still suffering as a result of the aggressive policies of successive American administrations, which were manifested by supporting terrorist organizations and militias, launching acts of aggression on Syrian territory, and the illegal presence of its forces on parts of Syrian territory, and its plundering of national resources, in addition to its imposition of inhumane coercive measures on the Syrian people.
