Feral teen charged as adult after he ambushes male teacher in hall, slaps female teacher in class
[NYPOST] A North Carolina high schooler was hit with felony charges for allegedly attacking two separate school teachers on school grounds — and is being charged as an adult, prosecutors said.

Aquavis Hickman
, 17, a student at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, was indicted on assault and kidnapping charges last week and charged as a grownup in the two horrific attacks, including an April 15 assault where he slapped a female teacher twice, Fox affiliate WGHP-TV News reported.

"Our message to our community is simple," Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill told the outlet. "We stand with teachers. We will fight to protect those teachers. And if you lay a hand on a teacher and assault a teacher, you can expect that the punishment will be swift and severe.

"Promise made," O’Neill said as he announced the indictment Thursday. "Promise kept."

In the first incident, Hickman was charged with second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor riot in a Feb. 1 attack on a male teacher at the school — although prosecutors said he did not act alone.

Larry Edwards, a retired educator who was working as a substitute teacher, told WGHP he "was appalled" after having his head pushed in the hallway, allegedly by Hickman and other students.

"I walked up to the desk to get my phone to call the office and he mockingly walked behind me, and I happened to turn around and see him and the students started laughing," Edwards said in a report last week. "The next thing I know he had taken his hand and smushed my head and everybody started laughing and he ran out."

Last month, prosecutors said the rowdy teen walked up to the female teacher and smacked her twice, with the attack caught on video that later went viral — although it was not released by cops.

"That video went viral nationwide and it put us on the map in a negative manner," Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn told the outlet. "I am so glad today that the rest of the nation will also hear that we do not tolerate that in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County."

The case against the teen was transferred from juvenile court to Superior Court last week, where a grand jury voted to indict him.

School district officials declined to comment on the case or Hickman’s arrest.

Embattled ABC News President Kim Godwin steps down
[NYPOST] Embattled ABC News President Kim Godwin announced she was calling it quits Sunday night as she faced heightened scrutiny from corporate superiors over her job performance — and months after she was stripped of much of her power, sources confirmed to The Post.

"I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism," Godwin said in a staff memo obtained by The Post.

"Anyone who’s passionate about what we do knows there’s no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision," she wrote.

In Kenya, 228 people die from floods and landslides
Direct Translation via Gogole Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] At least 228 people died in Kenya from floods and landslides caused by heavy rains, Reuters reported on May 5, citing data from the Republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Due to the severity of the disaster, more than 200 thousand people had to be evacuated. At least 164 residents were injured.

The ministry warned that flooding is expected in low-lying areas, coastal areas in cities. There is also a risk of new landslides in hilly areas.

According to journalists, rainfall in Kenya began in March and continues to this day. According to forecasters, precipitation will become even heavier in May.

As Regnum reported, rains also hit Indonesia. On May 4, 14 people were reported dead due to flooding and landslides. 115 people were evacuated from flooded areas. The disaster caused damage to 2,052 families.

Heavy rainfall also occurred in Brazil. On May 3, it became known that 39 people had died. Another 68 are missing. At least 74 people were injured.

Long Beach Declares Public Health Emergency Due to ‘Surprising' Tuberculosis Outbreak
[Breitbart] What oh what could've sparked this? Three guesses and the first two don't count
City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis made the declaration to "strengthen the City’s preparedness and ability to respond" to the outbreak, the official press release said.

Authorities noted the outbreak is isolated to a "distinct population" and informed the public that the risk of contracting the illness is low.

"The population at risk in this outbreak has significant barriers to care including homelessness and housing insecurity, mental illness, substance use and serious medical comorbidities," the news release continued:

Several individuals associated with a single room occupancy (SRO) hotel in Long Beach have recently been identified with TB disease. As of April 29, 14 cases of TB disease have been associated with this outbreak; nine people have been hospitalized at some point in their illness; and one person has died. To protect patient privacy and comply with HIPAA regulations, the name of the hotel will not be released. The facility is a private hotel not operated by or contracted with the City of Long Beach. People who were staying at the hotel at the time or could have otherwise been exposed have been or will be contacted by the Health Department.

Officials noted that about 170 people may have been exposed to the illness, and Health Department workers are currently screening contacts for tuberculosis. Authorities believe the number of cases and contacts will increase as the investigation continues.

"This is surprising," Director of Infectious Disease at Dignity Health Dr. Suman Radhakrishna told KTLA:

We’ve had a lot of people coming from the developing part of the world where tuberculosis is endemic. And if they haven’t had a chance to get adequate healthcare and they have active TB, when they cough, they will aerosolize the bacteria, and all the susceptible individuals around them start to come down with TB.

According to the Mayo Clinic, tuberculosis is classified as a serious illness that mainly targets a person’s lungs. The illness "spreads easily where people gather in crowds or where people live in crowded conditions," the clinic said, adding that people with weakened immune systems have a greater risk of catching the illness.

"Drugs called antibiotics can treat tuberculosis. But some forms of the bacteria no longer respond well to treatments," the clinic noted.

The majority of people living in the United States are not vaccinated against tuberculosis because doctors say there is a low incidence of it within the country, according to KCAL:

"There is a skin and a blood test to detect tuberculosis, and if you are found to have it, you’ll be given a four-month supply of medication," a reporter for the outlet said.

In April, health officials in Chicago reported several cases of tuberculosis at migrant shelters, according to Breitbart News.

Togo's ruling party wins sweeping majority in legislative elections
[AFRICANEWS] Togo’s ruling Union for the Republic party (UNIR) has won a sweeping majority in the country’s legislative elections held on 29 April.
We guessed that.
Provisional results published late Saturday by the electoral commission showed it had won 108 out of the 113 seats in parliament.

Voting took place against the backdrop of heightened political tension following the approval earlier in April of a controversial new constitution and a series of crackdowns on opposition protests.

The results pave the way for President Faure Gnassingbé to extend his 19-year rule, under the new charter.

It will allow him to take the newly created post of "president of the council of ministers", a role similar to prime minister that is automatically assumed by the leader of the majority party in parliament.

Warren Buffett reveals the news no American taxpayer wants to hear as the government tackles rising debt - here's what it means for you
[MAIL] Warren Buffett has said he expects the US government to increase taxes rather than reduce spending as the country struggles with its mounting national debt.

The declaration, delivered Saturday, comes as the US is hard-pressed to address widening fiscal deficits, and as the national debt recently topped $34 trillion - an amount nearly as big as the entire US economy.

More concerning is the fact the Fed and other money-minded officials have no plan in sight, paving the way for the Berkshire Hathaway boss's unsettling prediction. Buffett aired his prediction at his hallowed hedge fund's annual shareholder meeting in Omaha, attended by some of the top CEOs in the country.

There, the conglomerate reported its collection of businesses generated some $11.2 billion of operating earnings, up 39 percent from the year before.

Despite those results being a sign of a relatively robust economy, the 93-year-old who is valued at more than $131billion said he believes a federal tax hike is on the horizon.

#6  Pa., West Va., Maryland all doing poorly. Virginia however seems to be be doing well. I spoke to two CPA's and asked if refunds were down again this year in Maryland. They are and they indicated withholding's were too low. Seems companies on their own reduced employee withholding's. Then food stamps also have been cut. Normally a family with children see big cuts from 200-600 monthly benefits to 25-27 dollars for a month. So the Maryland rainy day savings are gone already with the new administration in Maryland. Big tax increases and no cuts in many of the new spending programs. All the Democrats do is tax and spend.

155 police officers injured in mass brawl at football match in Germany
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] During a mass brawl at a regional German football league match between the Berlin club Dynamo and the Energie team from Cottbus, 155 police officers were injured. This was reported by Bild on May 5, citing a representative of the law enforcement agency.

It is clarified that the match, which took place on May 4 in Berlin, was suspended in the first half because of Dynamo fans who began to set fire to Energa scarves and flags, and also throw stones at the visiting coach Klaus-Dieter Wollitz. As a result, a fight broke out, which the police dispersed with dogs and tear gas.

Most of the law enforcement officers involved in dispersing the fight - 116 people - were injured by tear gas, 28 as a result of attacks by fans and another 11 by pyrotechnics.

As Regnum reported, on April 22, in Colombia, a hooligan threw a knife from the stands at Atlético Nacional football player Pablo Seppelini during the 18th round match of the national championship against Independiente Medellin. The knife hit the player in the head, after which he fell and the referee suspended the match, which, after providing assistance to the victim, was completed with the consent of the football player.

On April 12, the Union of European Football Associations opened a disciplinary case against the Spanish team Barcelona due to the Nazi salute of Catalan fans. Fans used Nazi salutes and made monkey gestures during the Champions League quarter-final match between Barcelona and PSG.

Government Corruption
Atlanta USPS delays: 'Decrease in service performance' lasted 4 months at Virginia facility that opened last year, audit says
[Eleven Alive] ATLANTA — As metro Atlanta businesses and individuals continue to grapple with mail delays stemming from a new centralizing facility in Palmetto, an audit just released by the USPS Office of Inspector General on the opening of the same kind of facility last year in Richmond, Virginia says delays there lasted four months.
Palmetto is a bit of a drive from Metro Atlanta. Could the tenured-entitled resent the commute ?
The Atlanta Regional Processing & Distribution Center in Palmetto opened on Feb. 24, consolidating Atlanta, Augusta, Macon and Duluth area processing and distribution centers.

REPORT: USPS audit report sheds light on mail delays in Atlanta and elsewhere

Since then, 11Alive has increasingly heard from viewers who have experienced frustrating delays or other problems with their mail, impacting everything from their small business shipments to medicine deliveries to tax documents. Members of Congress from Georgia from both sides of the aisle, including Republican Rep. Mike Collins and Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, have called for answers.

Atlanta is not the first area to experience disruption following the opening of this kind of facility. They are a centerpiece of a system-wide modernization drive within the USPS, and the first one the agency opened was in Richmond last year.
