[FoxNews] Federal immigration authorities said they found fake federal documents belonging to Keycy Robinson Alexi Barrera-Rosa
An illegal immigrant in Maryland was charged with murdering his girlfriend after her body was found in a forest outside of Washington, D.C.
The Charles County Sheriff's Office in Maryland announced Monday that 24-year-old Keycy Robinson Alexi Barrera-Rosa was charged with murder in the killing of his girlfriend, Lesbia Mileth Ramirez Guerra, 23, who was reported missing on March 31. Rosa's uncle, Rolvin Eduardo Barrera-Barrera, 37, was charged as an accessory.
Deputies said Guerra's body was found on April 17 in a "heavily wooded area" of the forest just outside of Cedarville State Forest in Prince George's County, Maryland. Her body was found buried, the officials added.
Guerra was the mother to two young children, officials said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said its agents arrested Barrera-Rosa on April 5 in La Plata, Maryland, saying he entered the country illegally and is originally from Guatemala.
According to immigration officials, Barrera-Rosa and Barrera-Barrera were apprehended on April 10, 2019, near El Paso, Texas. They were served notices to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge at the time.
ICE placed an immigration detainer on Barrera-Barrera with the Charles County Detention Center after he was arrested.
ICE said Barrera-Rosa is being held by the agency at its Farmville Detention Center in Farmville, Virginia, while he awaits extradition to the Charles County Detention Center for the murder charge.
According to FOX 5, the sheriff's office found suspicious and unusual activity at Guerra's home just one day after she was last seen. During their investigation, authorities found fake federal documents belonging to Barrera-Rosa.
Vernon Liggins, ICE Baltimore acting field office director, said this "marks a significant step toward justice."
"This heinous crime not only devastated a community but also reinforced the urgent need to prioritize public safety by identifying, arresting, and removing egregious illegal aliens who threaten our neighborhoods. ICE will continue to work tirelessly, side by side with our law enforcement partners, to safeguard our communities and uphold the rule of law," Liggins said.
[ShabelleMedia] Somali Federal Government troops, supported by Macawisley militias, are advancing towards Aboorey in the Hiraan region, about 20 kilometers from Buulo-Burde. The town has been under al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... control for the past two weeks.
The joint forces are reportedly conducting operations on Aboorey’s outskirts, with escalating concerns over potential direct festivities with al-Shabaab. Recent weeks have seen heavy fighting between Somali troops and murderous Moslems, including a retreat by government forces following an al-Shabaab assault on their base in Aadan Yabaal, Middle Shabelle.
The renewed operations aim to prevent al-Shabaab from advancing towards Mokoqori and Buulo-Burde, further strengthening efforts to reclaim territory in the Hiraan region.
Multiple Sources told Radio Shabelle that operations will continue as part of a larger campaign to oust al-Shabaab from the region.
The goal is to regain control of Aboorey and nearby Yosooman, restoring stability and weakening al-Shabaab’s influence in the area. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well... tensions remain high, with the possibility of renewed festivities in the coming days.
[VANGUARDNGR] Armed men suspected to be cultists on Easter Sunday invaded Swali community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, killing four persons.
The hooded men, armed with AK-47 rifles, according to a report, stormed the densely populated area in a Toyota Hilux at midnight.
They were said to have shot sporadically at residents celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, forcing the residents to flee in different directions. Four persons were confirmed dead with several others injured.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the attack as terrible, saying since he took up residence in the riverine suburb, he had not witnessed such violence unleashed on innocent citizens.
''It was terrible, I have never seen anything like this since I started living here over 10 years ago,'' he said.
According to him, the attack was not an armed robbery operation as the gunmen did not steal any property, but just fired at their targets and took off.
Swali Community, which is host to the Swali Ultra Modern Market, the largest market in the state capital, is close to several security formations in the state.
The area is also known as den of two rival cult groups locked in supremacy battle for territorial control.
A member of the House of Assembly representing Yenagoa Constituency I, Chief Ayibanegiyefa Egba, has condemned the attack in strong terms.
The lawmaker, during a visit to the community, described the attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of lives as ''barbaric'' and expressed her deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the entire Swali community.
The Paramount Ruler of Swali Community, HRH Wilcox Job, called on the state government to mount police posts at strategic locations in order to avert future attacks.
Chief Job pleaded with the government to help to ensure safety and security of his subjects from future attacks, explaining that the community had requested for the mounting of a police post to beef up security.

[VANGUARDNGR] Amid the rising spate of killings in Benue, the State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, said what the people of Benue need is the Federal Government's absolute support and not a declaration of a state of emergency.
While speaking on Arise Television's ''The Morning Show'' on Wednesday, Governor Alia said the insecurity situation in Benue is not too much for him to handle, but he needs the support of the Federal Government to tackle the crisis.
He said that his administration has the capability to end the killings in the state, but he needs more support to drive killer herders invading Benue communities out of the state.
He said, ''What we need is emergency help for now. We need absolute support. The federal government is supportive, they sent us two armoured tanks. Our situation had changed. We had a better narrative, but what we need to do is to get our people back home, to drive out the invaders, the armed invaders who have brought in people who do not even speak the Nigerian languages we speak. Let them move back to wherever they came from and allow us farmers to go back to our ancestral land. Calling for any emergency does not occur here.''
The governor dismissed the claim that the state's security situation might be too much for him to handle. According to him, his administration has reduced the number of local government areas under attack from 17 to six.
This, according to him, indicates that his government can tackle the incessant killings and destruction of properties in the state by killer herders, some of whom he believes are not Nigerians.

Yes, but did the missiles come down close enough to Israel to get their attention? If yes, did Israel successfully shoot them down — as usual — or did Allah for once choose to let the missiles do damage in Israel?
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... i Armed Forces announced on Wednesday two military operations against vital Israeli targets in the occupied Paleostinian territories.
The Yemeni Armed Forces issued the following statement:
''In support of the oppressed Paleostinian people and their valiant resistance, and in rejection of the genocidal crimes being perpetrated by the ''Israeli'' enemy—with direct American backing—against our brothers in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... The missile force of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a precise and exceptional military operation targeting a vital site belonging to the Zionist enemy in the occupied city of Haifa using a hypersonic ballistic missile.
By the grace of God, the missile successfully reached its target. Enemy air defense systems failed to intercept it, triggering widespread panic among the Zionist settlers. As a result, over two million settlers rushed into shelters.
Additionally, the drone force of the Yemeni Armed Forces conducted another military operation, targeting a strategic site in the occupied city of Yafa [''Jaffa''] using a Yafa-model drone.
The people of faith and wisdom are waging this battle with complete reliance on God Almighty—executing His commands, following His guidance, and placing their trust in Him. They will not retreat or abandon their sacred, moral, and humanitarian responsibilities. With God's help, they will continue their jihad in support of the oppressed Paleostinian people until the aggression on Gaza ceases and the siege is lifted.''
A ballistic missile fired at Israel by the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen set off sirens early Wednesday morning in the north of the country for the first time, sending over a million people rushing for the safety of bomb shelters.
The Israel Defense Forces said the missile was successfully intercepted by air defenses.
Sirens sounded as a precaution against falling missile and interceptor debris, which has in the past caused injuries and even death.
Sirens went off at 4 a.m. in Haifa and the surrounding area, as well as the Western Galilee region. Explosions from the interceptions were heard in Haifa and the Sharon region.
The Houthis later claimed to have fired the missile at a “vital Zionist enemy target” in Haifa. They also claimed to have launched a drone at a target in the Tel Aviv area, although there were no reports of drones reaching Israel from Yemen overnight.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service reported no direct injuries from the missile attack or impacts from debris, but said paramedics treated a number of people who were injured while rushing for shelter.

[KavkazUzel] The Southern District Military Court imposed a fine on the Astrakhan resident, finding him guilty of calling for terrorist activity and extremism.
The verdict for the "repeatedly convicted resident of Astrakhan" was reported on April 23 by sources connected to the security forces. According to them, the man shared the ideas of "terrorist and pro-Ukrainian nationalist groups."
According to security forces, the man published posts on social networks justifying the terrorist attack in Beslan, called Shamil Basayev
…Shamil Salmanovich Basayev, also known by his kunya "Abu Idris" and Emir Abdullah Shamil Abu-Idris (1965-2006). Basayev was a Chechen warlord in the post-Soviet Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, which after his death became the Al Qaeda-linked Caucasus Emirate. In 2015 most of the hard boys changed their allegiance to the local Islamic State affiliate, Vilayat Kavkaz, whereupon a majority chose to escape the Spetsnaz hunting them by making hijra to the caliphate in Syria. Some of his projects were the 2004 Beslan school siege and the 2002 Moscow theater hostage crisis...
"a hero of the Chechen people", "and also said that Astrakhan is with Ukraine", claims the Telegram channel "Operativnye Sudovki" associated with security forces.
On September 1, 2004, militants took 1,128 hostages in the gymnasium of School No. 1 in Beslan. The operation to free them ended on September 3, 2004. As a result of the terrorist attack, 334 people were killed, including 186 children, and another 810 people were injured. The "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report " Terrorist attack in Beslan (September 1-3, 2004) " and a chronicle of the terrorist attack and the events that followed.
The channel published a short video of the suspect's arrest. Judging by the recording, the man was detained on the street by four law enforcement officers in civilian clothes; the arrest probably took place in the fall. The sound was selectively removed from the video, so the phrases exchanged between the law enforcement officers and the detainee are impossible to make out.
The Astrakhan resident's case was heard by the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don, reported the Telegram channel "From Astrakhan", which positions itself as the "Main Channel of the City and Region".
The man was found guilty under two criminal articles - calls for terrorist activity (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia) and calls for extremism (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of Russia). Although both of these articles provide for actual imprisonment, the court sentenced him to a fine of 500 thousand rubles and a ban on website administration for three years.
In the card index of the Southern District Military Court, the description matches the case card of Denis Polyakov - it was received by the court in December 2024, the verdict was issued on February 4. A month later, on March 4, the court sent the writ of execution on the case to the Soviet District Department of Bailiffs of the city of Astrakhan.

"That is exactly what went on when October 7th 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. It was directed specifically against Jews and not only against Jews, but among the most liberal Jews who were most prone to wanting peace and normalcy with the Gaza Strip. Targeting a vacation resort, middle-class Hindus, it is evident that the Pakistanis are trying the same tactic now. It should be no more successful for Pakistan than it was for Hamas. And frankly, it's now the duty of India to do to Pakistan and to Pakistan's ISI what Israel did to Hamas. It's time to wipe out the leadership of the ISI to treat them as a designated terror group and demand that every country that is an ally of India, every country that is an ally of the world's largest democracy, do the same..." says Michael Rubin, former Pentagon official and a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute

Security agencies released photographs of the suspected terrorists involved in the brutal attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed 28 lives. The names of the terrorists are Aadil Guree, Aasif Shaikh , Suleman Shah and Abu Talha. The terrorists used code names - Moosa, Yunus and Asif.
Photo of the four miscreants at that time at the link, all in dark, Western civilian, long-sleeved shirts and slacks or cargo pants, harnesses with pockets filled with magazines (?), and their trigger fingers carefully laid along the side of whatever their guns (rifles? but three don’t seem to have shoulder stocks, so I’m confused) instead of on the trigger. The training we’ve been doing in Iraq and Afghanistan has had at least that one beneficial aspect — fewer are being killed accidentally because the bad guys know that serious military are careful about that.

These rivers are vital to Pakistan's water supply, supporting tens of millions of people.
India Scales Down Diplomatic Ties With Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack: Echoes of 26/11
[Oneindia] In the aftermath of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir-where over two dozen tourists were killed and several injured-India has launched a sharp diplomatic offensive. New Delhi has announced a significant reduction in diplomatic mission strength, bringing down the number of officials in both Indian and Pakistani High Commissions from 55 to 30. This move signals a severe downgrade in bilateral ties without a complete diplomatic rupture.
Scaling down diplomatic staff, particularly Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors, is a serious diplomatic signal. By declaring them 'persona non grata', India is essentially accusing these officials of actions incompatible with diplomatic norms-commonly implying espionage, subversion, or indirect support to terrorism. This is not just administrative downsizing but a strategic message: that normal diplomacy cannot continue alongside terror.
The move to cut staff strength reflects India's stance of "Terror and Talks Cannot Go Hand-in-Hand." It leaves a bare minimum of diplomatic personnel, primarily for consular and essential services, while cutting off backchannel or informal communication avenues that often operate through military attachés.
Saifullah Khalid, LeT Terrorist And TRF Commander, Identified As Mastermind Of Pahalgam Terror Attack
April 23, 2025, 16:48 [IST]
[OneIndia] The Jammu and Kashmir Police are receiving support from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy for the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for this attack. This incident has raised significant concerns about cross-border terrorism.
Army sources have identified Saifullah Khalid, a top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as the mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack. Known also as Saifullah Kasuri, he is believed to have been planning this assault for two months. During this period, he reportedly visited Pakistani Army camps twice to coordinate the attack.
Saifullah is closely associated with Hafiz Saeed, the chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and serves as his deputy. He is credited with founding both TRF and People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), which are considered proxies for Lashkar. His ties with Hafiz Saeed and alleged coordination with Pakistani military elements highlight concerns about state-backed terrorism against India.

Pak media reported that police and security forces in the country have killed at least 16 bandidosLions of Islam linked to the Tehrik-e-Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... Pakistain (TTP) in two separate operations in the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces. According to the Express Tribune, the first operation took place in a mountainous region of Punjab, where the provincial police, in collaboration with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), raided TTP hideouts.
Punjab police officials reported that, based on intelligence, between 20 and 30 bandidosLions of Islam were present in the area, planning terrorist attacks against government installations and civilians. In this operation, 10 TTP fighters were killed. This significant blow to the murderous Moslem group came after intelligence confirmed their active plotting in the region.
The second operation occurred in the Mir Ali area of North Wazoo in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where six more TTP bandidosLions of Islam were killed during festivities with Pak security forces. Pakistain’s military reported that substantial amounts of weapons, ammunition, and explosives were discovered and seized from the murderous Moslems’ hideouts.
A security bigshot told the Dawn newspaper that "these operations are part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist threats in Pakistain’s border and interior regions." The Pak authorities view these operations as a significant success in their battle against militancy.
This series of operations comes as Pakistain prepares to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad, with the country’s officials stressing the importance of maintaining security throughout the nation. The timing of these operations reflects the country’s commitment to ensuring a stable environment as it welcomes international leaders for the summit.
These successful military operations underline Pakistain’s ongoing efforts to counter terrorism within its borders. As the security situation continues to evolve, it is crucial for the country to maintain its vigilance and strengthen its counterterrorism measures to ensure the safety and stability of the region.
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund... ’s defense ministry announced on Wednesday that a Ottoman Turkish soldier was killed by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on the Kurdistan Region’s bordering areas. The incident occurred despite revived peace negotiations between both warring sides and the Kurdish group’s unilateral ceasefire.
The ministry stated that the soldier, Berat Mecit Day, was "seriously injured as a result of the attack carried out by members of the terrorist organization" on Tuesday. He departed this vale of tears on Wednesday at a field hospital despite medical intervention.
Turkey and the PKK have been engaged in a decades-long armed conflict. Ankara and its western allies consider the group a terrorist organization. Founded in 1978, the PKK initially struggled for autonomy but now seeks broader cultural and political rights within Turkey.
The development comes as peace efforts to resolve the Ankara-PKK conflict - which has lasted more than four decades and claimed over 40,000 lives - have gained new momentum in recent months.
Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) is spearheading the initiative to mediate peace between Turkey and the PKK. This includes meetings with Ottoman Turkish politicians and with tossed in the slammer Please don't kill me! PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who has been held in Imrali prison, northwest of Turkey, since 1999.
In late February, the DEM Party relayed a landmark message by Ocalan, in which he called on the PKK to disarm and disband.
The PKK responded to Ocalan’s message, expressing willingness to uphold his call and declaring a unilateral ceasefire with Turkey, while accusing Ankara of continuing attacks against its members. The group also requested a physical meeting with Ocalan as a precondition for the success of the grinding of the peace processor.
As part of its outreach, the DEM Party has been meeting with leaders across the Kurdistan Region to build support for the peace initiative. Its most recent delegation visit began Sunday and lasted three days.
Speaking to news hounds in Erbil on Monday, DEM Party politician Meral Danis Bestas asserted that in order for the grinding of the peace processor to advance, "Turkey's [military] operations must be halted and democratic steps must be adopted by all sides."
Days prior on Friday, Kamaran Osman, a member of the US-based Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT), told Rudaw that Ottoman Turkish artillery has continued shelling suspected PKK posts in the Kurdistan Region’s northern Duhok province.
Omer Celik, spokesperson for Turkey’s ruling said on Monday that "new developments" could arise later this month regarding the grinding of the peace processor.

[IsraelTimes] Nablus resident, brother of key suspect, accused of helping to prepare bombs that destroyed a number of vehicles in February in Bat Yam and Holon
Military prosecutors have indicted a Palestinian man suspected of having helped to carry out a botched bus bombing spree in the suburbs of Tel Aviv two months ago, Israel Police and Shin Bet spokespeople announced on Tuesday.
The defendant, a resident of Nablus in his 30s whose name has not been published, is the brother of the suspected terrorist accused of planting the explosives on three buses in Bat Yam. The main suspect has so far evaded police capture.
On February 20, three empty buses exploded one after the other in parking lots in Bat Yam. The timed devices were apparently supposed to have detonated Friday morning when the buses were in use, but went off early. Giora Eiland, a former IDF operations chief, speculated that the timers were set incorrectly.
There were no injuries in the incidents. Police said they neutralized two other unexploded devices on buses nearby. Hebrew media reports said those devices were discovered in Holon.
According to the indictment, the suspect helped prepare the bombs used in the failed attack and helped his brother hide from Israeli authorities after he planted the explosives on buses.
Prosecutors said he was aware of the plot as far back as January when his brother showed him oxygen balloons he had purchased to make the explosive devices. The terrorist also asked his brother to purchase remote controls to activate the devices. The suspect bought nails to be used as fragments in the bombs and increase their lethality, prosecutors said.
In addition, he is accused of wiring at least one of the bombs to an alarm clock that was used as a timer to set it off.
He was charged with cooperating in attempting to cause death.
Police said that military prosecutors would indict three more suspects, all residents of Nablus in their 30s, over coming days. All three are suspected of having helped plan the attack.

In the past 24 hours alone, 39 bodies and 105 maimed were brought to hospitals across the besieged enclave. Many victims are still trapped under rubble or stranded on roads, unreachable by emergency crews.

So we are to believe 51,305 have died since Oct 7th out of Gaza's 2025 estimated population of about 823,000.
That's a BIG IF at best.
But, with that said and using it for only discussion. That would indicate the IDF over the last 565 days since Oct 7th 2023, is only averaging about 90 Hamas and Islamic terrorist supporters a day.
Given, Hamas and its supporters murdered between 340 and 1,200+ civilians (depending on whose figures are used) at the Supernova Sukkot Gathering open-air music festival, in 1 day, back in 10-07-2023.
I guess the IDF has some serious catching up to do.

Some furniture was still in flames several hours after the strike as people sifted through blackened classrooms and the schoolyard in search of their belongings.
Medics said at least 36 people had been killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza on Wednesday.
An overnight Israeli strike on a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City killed 23 people, according to local Hamas-controlled health authorities. The figures could not be verified and do not differentiate between civilians and terror operatives.
The Civil Defense, first responders who operate under the Hamas-run government, said it recovered another four bodies from strikes on two homes in the same area. It said there are more people trapped under the rubble.
The IDF and Shin Bet said the early morning airstrike targeted Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives embedded within the former Yaffa School in Gaza City.
According to the military, Hamas and Islamic Jihad were using the school as a command center to plan and carry out attacks on Israel and troops.
The IDF said it took steps to mitigate civilian harm in the strike, including the use of a “precision munition, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.”

As thousands of mourners flood St Peter's Square following the death of Pope Francis, Italian authorities are quietly executing one of the most complex and secretive security operations in Vatican history.
With as many as 170 foreign delegations - including those of Donald Trump and Prince William – expected to descend on the Vatican for Saturday's funeral, along with crowds of up to 200,000 people, those overseeing the event are preparing for a hyper-vigilant few days.
At the centre of the operation a shadowy military unit trained in drone warfare, typically deployed in conflict zones, now mobilised to keep a silent watch over the skies of the Eternal City.
According to Corriere della Serra, anti-drone weaponry are being deployed, a no-fly zone patrolled by NATO AWACS surveillance jets will be put in place, as well as sophisticated anti-drone jamming systems.
Snipers will be placed strategically on nearby roofs and barriers have already been erected inside and outside the basilica in an attempt to control the grieving crowds.
Speaking to NBC, Rome's police chief, Marcello Fulvi, said around 8,000 security agents would also be in place for the funeral, including 2,000 uniformed police officers patrolling St. Peter’s and the boulevard leading up to it and another 1,400 plainclothes officers in the streets.
Though Italian officials have not formally raised the terror threat level, insiders confirm it has been unofficially elevated, prompting sweeping measures across Rome and the Vatican.
Airspace has been locked down, with a blanket ban on all aircraft – from commercial planes to hobbyist drones – to prevent any airborne threats during Saturday's historic farewell to the late pontiff.
But this is no ordinary papal funeral.
Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday, will not be buried beneath St Peter's Basilica like his predecessors - a profound break with centuries of tradition.
Instead, his final resting place will be the Basilica of St Mary Major, perched on the Esquiline Hill near the bustling Termini station - a route that throws Rome's security services into uncharted territory.
The logistical challenge of guarding a funeral procession that stretches well beyond Vatican walls has triggered a massive mobilisation of Italy's security forces.
Sources suggest that thousands of officers - including undercover units - are already in place, and more are expected to be deployed in the days ahead.
Elite police and military units, the Swiss Guard, the Vatican Gendarmerie, and a complex network of surveillance teams are all involved.
Major intersections have become choke points, swarming with uniformed and plainclothes officers, while the River Tiber is being closely monitored as an additional potential vulnerability.
Italy's official terror threat level remains at Level 2 - medium/high, but authorities are treating this moment with the gravity of a state emergency.
Given that more than 20,000 mourners formed eight-hour queues at the Vatican as they wait to pay their respects to the late Pope Francis today alone, it's easy to see why.
Over the coming days, tens of thousands of people are expected to pass through the basilica to see Francis lie in state and at least 200,000 people are expected to attend the outdoor funeral service on Saturday.
[Rudaw] Twenty Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) forces of Evil were arrested during a six-day operation by Kurdish forces at the notorious al-Hol camp in northeast Syria (Rojava), the Kurdish forces announced on Wednesday.
The internal security forces (Asayish) in Rojava stated that "to ensure security and stability and confront the growing threats posed by terrorist cells and remnants of ISIS," Kurdish forces have "completed a security operation inside al-Hol Camp," which led to "arrest of 20 ISIS members and collaborators."
The operation also dismantled "a dangerous ISIS cell that had been coordinating with other cells to carry out terrorist activities." The Kurdish forces additionally seized "three Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, several magazines and rounds of ammunition, in addition to military equipment."
Alongside the Asayish, the operation saw the participation of the Women’s Internal Security Forces, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) and the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Kurdish forces further thwarted "a coordinated mass escape attempt involving cells inside and outside the camp."
Al-Hol and Roj camps in northeastern Syria primarily house individuals with suspected ISIS affiliations. These camps are managed by the Kurdish-led SDF and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), with support from international organizations.
Al-Hol is the larger of the two, currently housing 34,927 individuals linked to ISIS, including 15,861 Syrians, 15,681 Iraqis, and 6,385 third-country nationals, according to data obtained by Rudaw English in mid-April.
Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, Agent 49 felt gingerly for his head. It was still there. He had been hoping differently... Roj camp houses around 2,000 individuals, primarily women and kiddies associated with ISIS.
Kurdish forces have long warned of the growing threat posed by ISIS, particularly within these camps.
On Wednesday the Asayish stated that the recent "military and political" developments in the region, "have given ISIS cells the opportunity to increase their movement and carry out terrorist acts." They urged the international community to assume responsibility in addressing the issue of these camps and to support AANES in "effectively and safely managing this complex dossier."
ISIS captured vast swathes of Iraqi and Syrian territory in 2014, and lost control over much of them by 2019, but its sleeper cells continue to pose a security threat.
Following a swift offensive in December, a coalition of opposition groups led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... (HTS) toppled the regime of Syrian dictator Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Scourge of Qusayr... ISIS has tried to take advantage of the changing security landscape in Syria after the fall of the regime of Bashir al-Assad.
SDF chief Mazloum Abdi in mid-January noted that 10,000 ISIS fighters are imprisoned in Syria, 2,000 of whom are considered "highly dangerous." He stressed the "need to intensify efforts to continue the fight against ISIS if we don’t want to see it make a comeback."
