Someone is Following the Money - JPMorgan may face expanded lawsuit over Epstein ties
[Aljazeera] The US Virgin Islands wants to expand its lawsuit accusing JPMorgan Chase & Co of aiding in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking of girls and young women, adding a new obstruction charge and a claim that bank executives joked about the late financier.

In a Monday filing in Manhattan federal court, the territory said Epstein’s behaviour had been "so widely known" at JPMorgan, where he was a client from 2000 to 2013, that senior executives "joked about Epstein’s interest in young girls".

The obstruction charge concerns JPMorgan’s alleged effort to thwart enforcement of a US anti-trafficking law by processing large cash withdrawals for Epstein and his associates, with the "purpose" of helping Epstein evade criminal liability.

Among the beneficiaries of Epstein’s largesse was his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, who received more than $23m from 1999 to 2002, the territory said.

JPMorgan did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters after market hours.

The US Virgin Islands needs permission from US District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan to amend its complaint.

Its lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for Epstein’s alleged sexual abuse of young girls and women on Little Saint James, a private island he owned.

The proposed complaint refers to a recent deposition from Mary Erdoes, JPMorgan’s head of asset and wealth management, in heavily redacted form.

Chief Executive Jamie Dimon is expected to be deposed in May. Neither Dimon nor Erdoes has been accused of wrongdoing.

JPMorgan is separately suing Jes Staley, its former private banking chief and later Barclays PLC’s chief executive, for concealing what he knew about Epstein.

Single Mother Files Lawsuit After State Allegedly Denies Adoption Due To Her Christian Beliefs
[DAILYCALLER] A single mother of five filed a lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Human Services Monday for allegedly denying her adoption application due to her religious beliefs, according to a blurb from Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

Jessica Bates, a single mother of five, who also lost her husband in a car crash six years prior, attempted to apply with the department to adopt children in 2022, according to the blurb. Bates’ application was allegedly denied because her Christian beliefs would not allow her to "respect, accept, and support ... the sexual orientation, gender identity, [and] gender expression" of the children in her care as the department’s adoption regulations require, according to the lawsuit.

"Oregon’s policy amounts to an ideological litmus test: people who hold secular or ’progressive’ views on sexual orientation and gender identity are eligible to participate in child welfare programs, while people of faith with religiously informed views are disqualified because they don’t agree with the state’s orthodoxy," ADF Senior Counsel Jonathan Scruggs, director of the ADF Center for Conscience Initiatives, said in the blurb. "The government can’t exclude certain communities of faith from foster care and adoption services because the state doesn’t like their particular religious beliefs."

#1  ...as the department’s adoption regulations require, according to the lawsuit.

I wonder who created those 'regulations'? This could be like those recent SCOTUS rulings that stated certain Fed agencies overstepped their statutory authority by exceeding their expressly granted scope (i.e., these regulations were created internally by the lefty hack bureaucrats).

That said, I'm not entirely good with adding kid # 6 to a single mother running the show, and it's for an entirely different reason. I grew up in that kind of household (dad was still around, saw him every weekend per the court order). I take mostly the good from the experience, as I've had more than one high school classmate describe me as 'the normal one', having largely avoided constant police arrest and not getting sent to this fuckin' place if I stepped out of line, like they all did. Let's just say the other five kids had varying degrees of success, and I'll close by saying that such an environment is not a good one.

#2  That said, I'm not entirely good with adding kid # 6 to a single mother running the show

This. It can be done, and even done well, but the odds are against it — and it’s hard enough rearing children when there are two loving parents in the home and enough income for all the necessities plus some extras. All three of my fosterlings — whom I acquired because the trailing daughters brought them home instead of through the formal system — all three came from middle class homes with married/committed parents.

Wyoming Democrat Minority Whip Posts Meme of Grandma Shooting AK-47 to Protect Transgender People
[Breitbart] Wyoming House Minority Whip Karlee Provenza (D) posted a meme of a grandma using an AK-47 to protect transgender people on Saturday, less than a week after a 28-year-old transgender person went into a Christian school and shot six people dead.
As leader of the minority party in the legislature, that’s about the sum of her ability to influence the situation, a happy thought.
The meme shows a grandma holding an AK-47 and the text says, “Auntie Fa Says, Protect Trans Folks Against Fascists and Bigots”:

Breitbart News reported that Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs’ (D) press secretary Josselyn Berry sent a tweet with a message similar to Provenza’s on the same day as the Christian school shooting.

Berry’s tweet focused on pointing guns at “transphobes.” She resigned her position two days later.

The 28-year-old transgender shooter who killed six on Monday left behind a manifesto that has not been released to the public.

Gloria Steinem to present Meghan Markle with 2023 Women of Vision award
[NYPOST] Princess Meghan Markle
...unlikable American former starlet married to the formerly likable Prince Harry. Chock full of lefty political opinions, Markle's most important characteristic is that she is Black, even though she doesn't look it. Her mother, y'see, is half black and her father is white, which would make her a quarter Black. Her half brother described her (to her husband, before their marriage) as a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage. Once married, she was too good for the Royals and she and Harry decamped to Beverly Hills, kind of like the Clampetts did, thus making a joke of Harry and the royal family heritage...
is set to be awarded the 2023 Women of Vision Award next month — and it will be presented to her by none other than Gloria Steinem.

The award is bestowed by the Ms. Foundation, a Brooklyn-based organization that "works to bring attention to the real challenges facing women, especially women of color and low-income women who are living in poverty"
...poor Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, suffers dreadfully in the most abject poverty...
and advocates for policy changes at both a statewide and national level.

The Ms. Foundation announced that Markle will be receiving the award "for her global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls."

"We are thrilled to announce this year’s honorees for the Women of Vision Awards and to celebrate 50 years of progress and power," Teresa C. Younger, president and CEO of the Ms. Foundation, said in a statement.

CDC team got sick while investigating health risks from Ohio toxic train derailment
[NEWS.YAHOO] A team of seven US government Sherlocks fell ill while studying the health impacts of the February derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals through East Paleostine, Ohio, according to the CDC.

The group, including members of the Epidemic Intelligence Service, were going house-to-house surveying town residents near contaminated areas when they began feeling symptoms including sore throats, headaches, coughing and nausea. The group spent a day working from their hotel, before their symptoms quickly resolved, the agency told CNN
...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for...
"Symptoms resolved for most team members later the same afternoon, and everyone resumed work on survey data collection within 24 hours. Impacted team members have not reported ongoing health effects," a CDC spokesperson told the network.

The public health agency did not initially disclose the team getting sick to the public.

Two contractors working on the derailment for the EPA also reported health symptoms after working in an area with strong odors, CNN reported. The agency said that none of the other more than 100 EPA employees on the scene reported any issues.

More than half of the people in a state survey reported headaches, anxiety, couching, fatigue, and irritated skin after the derailment, according to research released Friday from the Ohio Department of Health.

Florida Senate Passes 6-Week Heartbeat Abortion Ban
[Breitbart] "For decades now, Florida has been a nationwide leader in defending the rights of the unborn. The Heartbeat Protection Act will make Florida a beacon of hope for those who understand that life is sacred and must be protected," SB 300 sponsor Sen. Erin Grall (R-Vero Beach) said in a statement.

"This bill represents an unprecedented opportunity to protect innocent life, and to stand with the brave moms who choose life for their babies. For 50 years, it was legal in this country to kill unborn children, and during that time, abortion has touched every single one of us. We have to grieve for what we have done as a country. This bill makes certain our laws reflect the strongest protections for innocent life," Grall continued.

The bill would move the limit on abortion from 15 weeks to six weeks, with limited exceptions. Those exceptions include rape or incest, preserving the life of the mother, or a fatal fetal abnormality in a pregnancy that has not entered the third trimester. The bill also requires abortions to be performed in person by a medical doctor or osteopathic physician, meaning medication abortion must be dispensed in person and not by mail.

The bill additionally includes $25 million to expand services provided by state-contracted crisis pregnancy centers. Some of these services include pregnancy testing and counseling, as well as material assistance like clothing, car seats, cribs, formula, and diapers.

Bob Iger Pushes Back on DeSantis' Disney Retaliation in Florida
[THEWRAP] For the first time, Bob Iger is speaking out and addressing the ongoing battle between the company and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

During Disney’s annual shareholders meeting Monday, Iger answered a bizarre question about the company’s so-called "woke
...the on-going war against good sense...
agenda" with the kind of poise and composure that made him such a favorite of his employees and the shareholders.

"Let me address this issue, which I haven’t really done much publicly," Iger said. "But I’d love the opportunity just to put it all in perspective. First of all, I know you said you’re a resident, I think of Melbourne, Florida. We love the state of Florida. And I think that’s reflected in not only how much we’ve invested over the last 50 years, but how much we’ve given back in the form of jobs and community service taxes which you brought up, tourism, of course, and all sorts of other responsible business practices. We’ve also always respected and appreciated what the state has done for us. It’s kind of been a two-way street."

Iger then discussed the decision, by former CEO Bob Chapek, to address DeSantis’ so-called "Don’t Say Gay" bill (after mounting pressure both internally and externally). It was a totally botched handling of the situation, something that Iger acknowledged.

"But a year ago, the company took a position on pending Florida legislation. And while the company may have not handled the position that it took very well, a company has a right to freedom of speech just like individuals do," Iger said. "And obviously in taking the position, the governor got very angry about the position Disney took and seems like he’s decided to retaliate against us, including the naming of a new board to oversee the property and the business, in effect to seek to punish a company for its exercise of a constitutional right. And that just seems really wrong to me, against any company or individual but particularly against the company that means so much to the state that you live in. That you can put that in perspective we have over 75,000 employees which I noted in my opening, countless thousands of indirect jobs have been created."
They had over 75,000 employees. I seem to recall they have somewhat fewer now, and plan to have even fewer in the future.

#2  Igner has decided, like his predecessor to use the power of the Disney corp to play politics. He is allowed free speech, like he said. He will also find out, under the "F$%k around and find out rule", that there are consequences for his actions. What this guy needs to do is spend more time on running his business and less time on woke politics. When a CEO decides that woke policies are number one, he has violated his fiduciary responsibility of putting his investors first. Now the employee base is getting laid off and the business is sliding...

Tunisia opposition demands clarity on president's 'absence'
[An Nahar] Tunisia's main opposition coalition pressed the government on Monday to explain a days-long public "absence" of President Kais Saied, saying it had information that he was sick.

Saied, 65, has not appeared in public or held any meetings since March 22, according to posts on his Facebook page -- the presidency's only official channel of communication.

The lack of statements or videos has sparked rumors over the state of Saied's health.

"We ask the government to address the Tunisian people and say if the president has health problems that have forced him to be absent," Ahmed Nejib Chebbi of the National Salvation Front opposition coalition told journalists.

He said the NSF had been "informed from day one that President Saied was suffering from health problems, but did not react, as anyone can have a temporary health problem".

Chebbi said Prime Minister Najla Bouden would run Tunisia in the event of a temporary power vacuum, but that a permanent vacancy would present the country with a "great catastrophe" due to a legislative void.

Saied, who staged a dramatic power grab in July 2011 and has since ruled by decree, last year rammed through a constitution giving his office unlimited powers and neutering parliament.

Under the new document, were Saied to be incapacitated, the president of the Constitutional Court would run the country pending a new presidential election -- but the court has not yet been created.

Chebbi said Saied's health "concerns all Tunisians", and that in the event he is incapacitated, Tunisia should hold "serious and open consultations so that the Tunisian people and the civil and political forces agree on a power transfer mechanism".

Oil prices surge after surprise move to cut output
[BBC] Oil prices have surged after several of the world's largest exporters announced surprise cuts in production.

The price of Brent crude oil is trading close to $85 a barrel after jumping by almost 6%.

Economists warned that higher oil prices could make it harder to bring down the cost of living.

But the RAC motoring group said it does not expect petrol prices to rise unless the higher oil price is sustained over several days.

Brent crude prices rose after Saudi Arabia, Iraq and several Gulf states said on Sunday they were cutting output by more than one million barrels of oil a day.

In addition, Russia said it will extend its cut of half a million barrels per day until the end of the year.

Energy giants BP and Shell saw their share prices rise on Monday, with both rising more than 4%.
Interesting graph at the link shows a slight rise within a $75 - $85 range since last November.
Oil prices soared when Russia invaded Ukraine, but are now back at levels seen before the conflict began.

The real culprit behind the "get Trump" radicals in New York is the corrupt, newly hired, former Obama-Biden DOJ attorney named Matt Colangelo.

Attorney Mike Davis unloaded Colangelo’s name along with Steve Bannon on the War Room today.

In their interview, Davis noted that Matt Colangelo is the link between the Biden DOJ and DA Bragg in their corrupt acts in targeting and putting together a BS indictment against President Trump. This guy was in the Obama White House and the Biden DOJ and appears to have been brought in to indict President Trump on whatever he could come up with.

This is a great example of how Obama destroyed the US DOJ and made it anti-American, biased, and corrupt.

Davis and Bannon dissected the corrupt actor pushing anti-American full woke actions in the corrupt DOJ now working with Bragg, Colangelo.

Colangelo was one of the first corrupt actors brought into Biden’s DOJ in a top position. This is the guy who acted with others to indict the likes of Americans who were praying outside of abortion clinics.

Missing teenage girl found 'married to kidnapper' in Lahore
[The Nation (Pak)] The police on Monday found the girl, who had been reported as missing by her family over a month ago, married to the alleged kidnapper in Lahore.

Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Police said the teenager [12 or 13 years old] was reported missing on Feb 13. An FIR had also been lodged by the police under Section 365-B of PPC on the complaint of girl’s family, in which a person named Abdullah was nominated as the suspected kidnapper.

Raids were conducted in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...
and Lahore. Police found the girl in Lahore and she was ’married to the suspect’.

Korangi-SSP Sajid Amir Sadozai claimed that the girl had reportedly married the suspect with her free consent and her marriage papers were being verified there.

A couple, alone in Lahore,
Awaited a knock on the door
As they handprinted cards
Wishing godless regards

Eli Lilly to Market Blockbuster Weight Loss Drug
[WSJ] The drug Mounjaro helped a typical person with obesity who weighed 230 pounds lose up to 50 pounds during a test period of nearly 17 months.

No anti-obesity drug has ever safely made such a difference. In the coming months, it is widely expected to get the go-ahead from U.S. health regulators to be prescribed for losing weight and keeping it off, and some patients are already using it unapproved for that purpose.

The advance of Mounjaro, which is already on the market to treat Type 2 diabetes, has excited doctors and patients who have been waiting decades for effective treatments, while helping turn its maker, Eli Lilly & Co., into the most valuable standalone pharmaceutical company in the U.S. with a market value of more than $300 billion.

#4  Interesting footnote: Eli Lilly was the commander of a Union artillery battery in the Civil War. He and his battery were nearly captured and Eli almost killed in a battle in east Tennessee called the Battle of Mossy Creek. After Getysburg Longstreet's Corps was sent to Chatanooga and after that battle in September of 1863 his corps was ordered back to Virginia. The battle occurred in January of 1864. Mossy Creek is now called Jefferson City. The temperature after the battle fell to -20 degrees.

Bobby,

FWIW I'm on Mountjaro for Type II diabetes. Appetite really hasn't gone down, but's it's been easier to stay on my diet. I have lost an extra 5-7 lbs, which has been nice. As far as the nausea - sometimes, within about 12-18 hours afterwards, my stomach is unsettled for a few minutes then it goes away. Other than that, no other side effects. This has worked better for me than anything else I've been on, so far.

Southeast Asia
Philippines reveals which military bases it is allowing US to use
There’s a cute little map at the link that is slightly useful in addition to being cute and little.
[BenarNews] The Philippines on Monday revealed the names of four bases it granted the United States access to in an agreement in February, with two of them confirmed to be facing Taiwan, and one of the others the South China Sea.

The sites in Cagayan, at the Naval Base Camilo Osias in Sta Ana, and Lal-lo Airport in Lal-lo, face Taiwan, while the base in Balabac island in Palawan faces the South China Sea. The fourth site is in Camp Melchor Dela Cruz in Gamu, Isabela, the Presidential Communications Office said.

Defense Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said these sites in the country’s "outer portion" would be a deterrent factor.

"These areas are significant because as we see in Balabac island, that’s within our sea lines of communications, it’s a $3 trillion worth of trade route," Galvez told news hounds on Monday.

"We also have to think of our responsibility to the international community. Our responsibility to collectively secure that is very huge."

Galvez said construction of facilities at these new sites was expected to start "immediately," adding that Washington was keen on moving fast so the United States Congress could deliberate on and approve a budget for the projects.

These sites are in addition to five previously approved for U.S. access.

Those are the Cesar Basa Air Base and Fort Magsaysay in the provinces of Pampanga and Nueva Ecija north of Manila; the Antonio Bautista Air Base and Benito Ebuen Air Base in the central provinces of Palawan and Cebu; and the Lumbia Air Base in Cagayan de Oro city in the south.

The Presidential Communications Office said the new sites are expected to "boost the disaster response of the country as the locations will also be used for humanitarian and relief operations during emergencies and natural disasters."

China has opposed the expanded EDCA deal, earlier saying it would put Manila in harm’s way by getting dragged into the "Taiwan question."

Cagayan and Isabela provinces, in the northern Philippines, face Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing claims as part of its territory.

"Those visionary people all asked the soul-searching questions: If the new sites are located in Cagayan and Isabela, which are close to Taiwan, does the U.S. really intend to help the Philippines in disaster relief with these EDCA sites?" a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Manila said in a statement last month.

"And is it really in the national interest of the Philippines to get dragged by the U.S. to interfere in the Taiwan question? It is plain and simple that those moves are part of the US efforts to encircle and contain China through its military alliance with this country," it said.

Balabac island is in the southern tip of the province of Palawan, which is bordered by the South China Sea in the west. The Philippines officially calls these waters within its exclusive economic zone as the West Philippine Sea.

China and the Philippines have overlapping claims in the South China Sea, along with Taiwan and the Southeast Asian nations of Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam. China claims almost the entirety of the vast waters on historical grounds despite a 2016 international court ruling that invalidated Beijing’s sweeping claims.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact...
in a statement issued Monday, the U.S. Department of Defense said the new locations would allow Washington "to respond more seamlessly together to address a range of shared challenges in the Indo-Pacific region."

It further said it intends expand funding in addition to the U.S. $82 million (4.47 billion pesos) it has allocated toward infrastructure investments at the existing EDCA sites.

"The United States and the Philippines have stood shoulder-to-shoulder as friends and allies for more than seven decades, unwavering in our treaty commitments and our shared vision for a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous region," the statement said.

The Philippines divulged the locations two months after Manila and Washington announced their deal to expand their Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement.

EDCA supplements the Visiting Forces Agreement, a 1999 bilateral pact providing legal cover for large-scale joint military exercises between the U.S. and the Philippines, Washington’s longtime defense ally in Asia.
