A police officer in Independence, Mo., who thought he was killing an alligator on the loose, discovered he had shot a life-size concrete lawn ornament. So what was his grouping?
The police department ended up apologizing to Rick Sheridan, the cement gator's owner, WDAF-TV, Kansas City, reported. Sheridan said he heard gunfire as he worked in his garage last weekend and went out to investigate, discovering several police officers with their guns drawn.
"The officer fired two rounds, and killed my concrete, ornamental alligator," Sheridan said.

With a real alligator, the bullets go in. This guy, the rounds may still be bouncing around someplace. Now, if one of the cops had taken a ricochet, do they call SWAT and level the house?

Depends on the jurisdiction. In Sheriff Dipsh*t's jurisdiction in AZ they would shoot 60-odd rounds into it and then leave and call in the SWAT.
Too bad the heroes didnÂ’t get to finish their reports before they learned their mistake:

I tried to post an article about this a few days ago but it never showed up.
Several interesting aspects to this crisis: unusual mix of people getting sick, fatalities and near-fatalities are more prevalent than for other E. Coli, the bacteria has a previously unseen toxic combination as if a merger of two other bacteria, it carries several mutations protecting it from antibiotics, the cases are are clustered around Hamburg.

[The Nation (Nairobi)] A Zim-bob-wean police officer accused of using a toilet reserved for President Bob Muggsy Mugabe Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case... has been placed in durance vile for 10 days.
The policeman identified as Sergeant Alois Mabhunu by a local radio station was tried and convicted by a police internal court on Tuesday.
He was tossed in the slammer last month for using the toilet that had been specifically designated for the president during the Zim-bob-we International Trade Fair (ZITF) held in the second city of Bulawayo early May.
Allegations against Sgt Mabhunu were that on May 6 he was on duty at the ZITF where President Mugabe was a guest.
He allegedly rushed to the toilet to answer the call of nature at a toilet reserved for the 87 year old leader.
Some officers guarding the toilet tried to stop him but failed. He was tossed in the slammer the following day.
As part of the sentence Sergeant Mabbhunu was also demoted from his post as a homicide detective and transferred to a remote police post.
The privately owned Radio VOP on Wednesday reported that he had appealed to the police commissioner General Augustine Chihuri to overturn the sentence.

[Iran Press TV] A new survey shows the support for Perfidious Albion's Labour party has dropped by two points to 37 percent, putting it level with the Conservatives for the first time in seven months.
The ComRes's poll for The Independent newspaper was carried out at a time when Labour party chief, Ed Miliband is doing 'what he can' to make an impact with the public.
The poll shows Labour has lost its lead over the Tories for the first time in seven months, running neck and neck with the Tories following a turbulent political month.
The month was turbulent because the Labour party was trounced in elections to the Scottish Parliament and recorded a mixed performance in contests for English councils.
The poll also found that support for the Tories has fallen by one point to 37 percent.
This is while the Liberal Democratic party is witnessing support recovery after its recent dramatic collapse in popularity. Support for the Lib Dems is also up by one point to 12 percent.
Support for other parties, including the SNP, Ukip and the Greens, is up by two points to 14 percent.
Labour was leading the poll index by nine points after the Chancellor, George Osborne, set out plans for spending cuts in the autumn, but it is losing supporters since then.

[Al Jazeera] Japanese prime minister Naoto Kan has survived a no-confidence vote in parliament, but the unpopular leader will still struggle to break a policy deadlock given a split in his party and a divided parliament.
Earlier on Thursday Kan said that he would step down after handling issues related to his country's triple disaster - the March 11 earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear crisis.
Parliament's lower house rejected the opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion by 293 votes to 152.
"Once the post-quake reconstruction efforts are settled, I will pass on my responsibility to younger generations," he said.
"The nuclear crisis is ongoing, and I will make my utmost efforts to end the crisis and move forward with post-quake reconstruction works."

[Iran Press TV] At a time when many Americans are struggling with unemployment and the soaring prices of goods, US Congress has decided to cut a food assistance program from the budget.
The Congress is considering the elimination of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), in an attempt to reduce the country's burgeoning debt, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Some 44 million Americans received SNAP benefits in March, which is an eleven percent rise from last year, and almost 61 percent higher than the percentage four years ago.
While US President Barack B.O. Obama supports an increase in the funding of the food aid program, conservatives in the Congress have insisted on cutting it from the country's spending. SNAP annually costs USD 70 million.
Republicans are also seeking to change SNAP from being an entitlement program to a block-grant program, bounded to individual state laws.
"I think there are inefficiencies in the food stamp program, but to be honest, I think a lot of that comes from the administrative side. I don't see a lot of fraud. I also do not see a lot of people who are intentionally violating the program requirements," said food stamps attorney, Stacy Braverman.
This comes as more than 20 million American families rely on food stamps for their survival.

Greek protesters have taken over the finance ministry building in Athens as the country agreed with its European partners to introduce new austerity measures in return for a new bailout package.
Protesters belonging to the left-wing The All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) union unfolded a giant banner from the roof of the finance ministry building on the central Syntagma square, calling for a nationwide strike against the new austerity measures that the government agreed to take in return for the new bailout package.
"From dawn today forces of PAME have symbolically occupied the finance ministry, calling on workers to rise, organize their struggle and prevent the government's barbarous and anti-popular measures from passing," the front said, AFP reported.
Angry citizens in the country have now, for a tenth consecutive day, held anti-government demonstrations against the austerity measures.
Protesters have set up a camp in the central square of the capital, in a move modelled after the Spanish M-15 movement and the uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa.

Yet another case of California's state government acting outside its role and playing "culture sheriff" again.
I honestly believe it is part of a plan to destroy our governments at every level. You ignore the things government should be doing, you concentrate on areas where the government shouldn't, you drain all government treasuries of funds that you divvy up to the least productive of society, make laws "protecting" weird behavior to attack the social fabric, and finally you have a broken community, a bankrupt government, and a society that is absolutely crazy.
Then you have to ask yourself "who really won the cold war"?

"So Fox plays a double game; concealing the most reactionary and partisan of perspectives in the appearance of populism," he noted.

Only in People's Democratic Republics you'll find a 'lack' of conflict. It's a natural aspect of true democracy to have conflicting opinions. Then again as already mentioned when you're tagged with the 'C' word, we understand their inherit desire for the first definition of a democracy.
