-Lurid Crime Tales-
From the man bites dog department
BRITNEY Spears' top bodyguard has quit - claiming the troubled singer sexually harassed him.
Ex-cop Fernando Flores, 29, stormed out after allegedly facing a series of bizarre come-ons.

He told friends Britney, 28, often paraded naked in front of him and beckoned him into her bedroom. He is now considering suing her.

"She was always giving him the come-on and he felt if he didn't reciprocate he could lose his job. He finally handed in his notice last week and is considering legal action," a friend said yesterday.

"Working for Britney is tough. She's a nightmare to deal with and her emotions are totally out of control. She runs round the house naked and yelling at staff.

The last straw came when Britney's dad Jamie, who is in legal control of her and can hire and fire staff, flew into a rage after she left her Los Angeles home without underwear.
"All her guards knew they could be removed if they looked at her the wrong way. Unfortunately for Fernando, she took a liking to him, so he was under more pressure than most. He wanted to be a good security guard and look after her but the situation became unbearable."

The last straw came when Britney's dad Jamie, who is in legal control of her and can hire and fire staff, flew into a rage after she left her Los Angeles home without underwear.

Last month Jamie banned his daughter from going out without a bra and told her security team to enforce the rule.

She was then pictured leaving a Hollywood restaurant without wearing knickers.

"It was embarrassing to tell her to put on underwear. Some guys would do it but others were too ashamed," a source said.

"Jamie went mental when he saw the pictures and Fernando was made the fall guy. He was not fired but told he was to blame. He had had enough."

SMS scam ring busted
[Straits Times] A NOTORIOUS SMS scam syndicate tricking victims into parting with their money by convincing them that they have won cash prizes has been busted with the arrest of 26 people.

Police believe the group, comprising a Malaysian and 25 foreigners, was responsible for swindling up to RM6.4 million (S$2.72 million) between 2006 and April this year. The syndicate members, including two women and the mastermind, were picked up last week in a raid at a house in Taman Jen Loong and a condominium unit in Kuhara Court, Tawau.

Federal Commercial Crimes Investigations Department (CCID) chief Datuk Koh Hong Sun said police were still tracking two more members of the group, who went by the names of Wak Agos and Acoh.

'This group is actually part of a SMS scam syndicate we busted last year in Tawau,' he told reporters at Bukit Perdana here yesterday. He said police also seized four laptops, 73 handphones, 41 account logbooks, ATM and credit cards and RM6,000 during the raid. 'Each laptop is able to send out up to 1,000 SMSes a day,' he said.

Chief Koh said the syndicate would send out SMSes to victims, 'informing' them that they had won cash prizes from major companies such as Petronas, Shell, Power Root and Maxis. 'Once the victims responded to the SMS, the syndicate would then tell them that they could only collect the cash prizes if they deposited a certain amount of money in a certain bank account,' he said.

He said police were also looking into the origin of the numerous bank accounts used by the syndicate, which were opened under Malaysian names. Chief Koh said those detained, aged 16 to 41 years, were being investigated for cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 4(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997.

Cattle Rustling on the Rise in Coahuila
Babelfish, etc...
The number of reported cattle theft cases have nearly doubled, according to a Mexican news report published by El Diario de Coahuila, going from 30 cases in two years to more than 50.

José Guadalupe Duran Meza, agent of the Ministerio Público for rural areas in the Southwest Region, said a number of cases are centered in southern areas of Coahuila, such as Saltillo, General Cepeda, and Ramos Arizpe and Arteaga.

"This crime always has existed", Duran Mezawas is quoted as saying.

"...this crime was not denounced as much, after the rural section of the Public Ministry was created is when more cases have arrived, mainly of the cattle rustling, although also they report other types of robberies to us."

Current rules for cattle producers large and small are the producer must make the denunciation before a judge, so the state attorney general can get involved. The Ministerio Público can then go across the countryside looking for missing animals.

Some of the small farm are very remote, but even so, denunciations have grown in the past year, he said.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Warning US Carriers To Stay Out Of 'Their' Strategic Waters
A state-run Chinese newspaper on Tuesday criticized the South Korean government for allowing the 97,000-ton aircraft carrier George Washington of the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet to join South Korea-U.S. military training scheduled late this month.

In an editorial, Global News wrote the West Sea "is in proximity to China's political hub of Beijing and Tianjin. If a U.S. aircraft carrier comes into the West Sea, mainland China falls under the military strategic influence of U.S. military forces. The people of China will not accept South Korea having military demonstration involving a U.S. aircraft carrier."

It added U.S. forces appear to regard China "as their largest potential enemy, exposing a lack of strategic mutual trust between the U.S. and China. If South Korea wants to develop trust with China, it will have to consider the sentiments of the people of China."

The paper warned Seoul "will have difficulty taking any kind of step forward on issues concerning the whole Korean Peninsula without China's understanding and cooperation." What South Korea needs to do now is not to put pressure on China by frequently involving the U.S. and escalating tensions in Northeast Asia but seek ways to alleviate tensions in the peninsula, it added.
Since, of course, China has been so friggin' helpful in the past on Korean issues.

#6  Nov. 28 2007 (Bloomberg) -- China, which denied a U.S. aircraft carrier permission to dock in Hong Kong for Thanksgiving, also recently refused access to two minesweeping ships seeking refuge from a storm, the commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific said.

The USS Patriot and USS Guardian were forced to refuel at sea and return to their homeport of Sasebo in Japan when China refused their request for shelter in Hong Kong, Admiral Timothy Keating told reporters in Washington yesterday.

China's denial violated an ``unwritten law among seamen that if someone is in need'' you give them safe harbor, Keating said in a video conference from his headquarters at Camp Smith, Hawaii, according to a transcript. The Foreign Ministry in Beijing said in a statement today the applications to dock weren't made in a ``timely fashion.''

The incidents came about two weeks after Defense Secretary Robert Gates visited China seeking greater cooperation between the two countries and more transparency from the government in Beijing about its military buildup.

The USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier, accompanying ships and about 8,000 crew members were scheduled to spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Hong Kong when China denied the U.S. Navy permission to dock.

This news is of course a couple notches up on the huevometer.

New Japan PM vows to tackle debt
New Japanese leader Naoto Kan vowed to tackle Japan's huge public debt and keep ties with ally Washington on track as he launched a cabinet that also aims to sideline a scandal-tainted party power broker before an election.

The choice of Kan, 63, as Japan's fifth premier in three years, has bolstered his Democratic Party's chances in an upper house election it needs to win to break free of a tiny partner and avoid having to find more allies to pass bills easily. The Democrats will stay in power regardless of the outcome of the upper house poll, expected in July, but a revamped coalition could complicate policymaking, depending on its composition.

Coming off a six-month stint as finance minister, Kan appears committed to reining in a public debt that is already twice the size of the economy. His cabinet also seems united on the topic, except for banking minister Shizuka Kamei, who heads a tiny coalition party and likes big spending.

Kan, who takes over after indecisive predecessor Yukio Hatoyama squandered sky-high support just eight months into office, gave the finance portfolio to fellow fiscal conservative Yoshihiko Noda. He also appointed like-minded former national strategy minister Yoshito Sengoku as chief cabinet secretary - the top government spokesman and an important policy coordinator.

The next general election must be held by late 2013, and while the Democrats have pledged not to raise the 5 percent sales tax before then, party fiscal reformers want to state clearly their intention to do so before that vote takes place.

Southeast Asia
Aquino wins election
[Straits Times] BENIGNO Aquino was declared the winner of the Philippine presidential election on Tuesday, nearly a month after voters went to the polls embracing his pledge to fight corruption and ease deep poverty.

Following a drawn-out vote tallying process, parliament finally released the complete count showing the 50-year-old son of democracy heroes had won the May 10 election in a landslide.

Mr Aquino secured just over 15.2 million votes, or nearly 42 per cent of the total number cast for the most emphatic victory in modern Philippine political history, according to the results released by legislators. Former president Joseph Estrada finished well back in second place, although he still won nearly 9.5 million votes to achieve some personal redemption after being ousted half way through his term in office in 2001 for being corrupt.

Mr Aquino will on June 30 take over from outgoing President Gloria Arroyo, who will step down as one of the nation's most unpopular leaders after nearly a decade in power.

Mr Aquino achieved his victory on a promise to tackle the corruption and poverty that has plagued the Southeast Asian nation for decades, and he said thrived under Mrs Arroyo's rule. 'I want to lead by example. We talk about corruption. I did make a public vow, I will never steal,' Mr Aquino told AFP in an interview a day after the elections.

Just as importantly, Mr Aquino cleverly tapped into the enormous public support for his parents, who remain revered for their efforts in ending the 20-year dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. Mr Aquino, an economics graduate and bachelor, had served for the past 12 years as a low-key member of parliament.
