[WBALTV] Three Prince George's County coppers were shot within seconds of arriving at a home invasion call, the interim police chief said.County police said officers were called at 6:35 p.m. Sunday to the 1300 block of Capital View Terrace.
Interim Police Chief Hector Velez said there was a legitimate call for service, a home invasion, but that the officers came under fire within seconds after arriving at the scene.
"They were ambushed," Velez said.
Police said officers returned fire, and two men are in jug. They were not struck.
"This evening, I received a call that three of my officers were shot. My heart sank," Velez said.
"This is the call you hope you never get, and we were just so shaken tonight to have gotten the call that three of our officers had been shot," Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said. "All three of these officers are nothing short of heroes."
The officers were taken to the hospital for treatment.
"They're going to be fine ... They are in good spirits. They are concerned about each other. They expressed concern for the person that they were responding to for the call for service," Velez said. "At this point, they suffered various degrees of injuries, and fortunately, we were able to apprehend two individuals."
The chief said the officers provided care to each other.
"Because of the self-care they provided to each other, they were able to be transported to Prince George's Hospital Center, where they are receiving excellent care," Velez said.
The chief said the officers suffered various degrees of injuries: one who was struck in the chest was saved by his vest and suffered arm and leg injuries. A second officer who was shot in the back was saved by his vest. A third officer suffered an injured foot.
"These officers are your officers. These officers are coming to work to protect, defend the residents of Prince George's County. This evening, these heroes did just that," Velez said.
"I want to ask our community tonight to keep all of these officers in your prayers, please keep their families in your prayers, keep this entire department in your prayers," Alsobrooks said.

I have talked to several young black youth who were traveling thru our area to their homes in PG county. They were fearful of being shot. Normal day to day life there.
[ToloNews] A security forces base in Imam Sahib district in the northern province of Kunduz, which was surrounded for the past five days, fell to the Talban on Sunday night, a source said on Monday.
The incident happened around 8:00pm when the Taliban ...Arabic for students... attacked the base in Qarghan Tapa area of Imam Sahib and clashed with security forces, said the source.
"One soldier was killed and five others, including their commander, surrendered to the Taliban with their weapons and with one Humvee vehicle," according to the source.
The source also said that 10 other security force members managed to escape from the area.
The local security officials have not yet commented on the attack.

They then marched uptown and chanted "No RNC in CLT!" and "F— Donald Trump ...the Nailer of NAFTA... !" as they gathered near the Westin Charlotte Hotel, where delegates are staying, according to the news outlet.
Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are expected to be in Charlotte for the RNC’s first night Monday when the delegates assemble in the Charlotte Convention Center to officially nominate them for the 2020 GOP ticket.
The protesters later marched back to South Tryon Street until they reached cops on bikes and chanted "Black Lives Matter!"
When one protester yelled that the officers were holding pepper spray, the group turned around, as some chanted "F— the police!"

[DETROITNEWS] Officers used force to prevent protesters from setting up a "Seattle zone of lawlessness" during demonstrations that turned violent mostly peaceful Saturday, the city's police chief said Monday.bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit ... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang... police chief James Craig made the comment while there are multiple internal investigations to determine whether any officers acted improperly during the skirmishes.
"I am not going to let any group set up a Seattle zone of lawlessness here in the city of Detroit," Craig said. "That is non-negotiable."
In Seattle, authorities allowed protesters to occupy several blocks for about two weeks until clearing the area in late June. There were at least two people killed and a sexual assault in the zone.
Craig said officers made 44 arrests Saturday after the group Detroit Will Breathe blocked the intersection of John R and Woodward and refused to leave following at least eight warnings. The coppers told the crowd to disperse because the gathering in the middle of the street constituted an illegal assembly, he said.
Sixteen of those arrested were Detroiters, Craig said. The others came from the Metro Detroit suburbs and Ann Arbor. One man who was arrested is from Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,. All but one were released as of Monday, the chief said.
