Darfur rebels, Khartoum clash despite peace talks
[Arab News] Darfur rebels clashed with government troops in South Darfur on Wednesday marking the resumption of fighting after heavy rains had largely subdued hostilities in Sudan's war-torn west.

Darfur jumped onto international agendas after a 2003 counter-insurgency campaign sparked one of the world's worst humanitarian crises as more than 2 million people decamped a campaign of murder, rape and looting dubbed genocide by Washington.

Round after round of peace talks have failed to secure a lasting truce because of rebel divisions and continued military operations. Sudan has gradually reasserted control over much of the region and led a rapprochement with neighboring Chad, isolating pockets of rebel forces largely cut off from support.

"The rebels attacked a commercial convoy...and the Central Reserve Police protecting the convoy engaged them, suffering several losses," Sudan's Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

It added the police were still chasing the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) forces.

Senior JEM commander Suleiman Sandal told Rooters from Darfur the government had attacked them in the east of South Darfur and they had routed the attackers.

"We have only a few injured," he said.

Arabia
Bahrain restores citizenship of cleric
[Arab News] Bahrain's king has restored the citizenship of a leading holy man, in a possible gesture aimed at easing sectarian tension in the Gulf nation.

Bahrain News Agency said King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ordered Wednesday that Hussein Al-Najati and his family be returned their passports "after correcting their status."

Al-Najati, the Bahrain representative for Iraq's Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani, was stripped of citizenship by the king in September in a sweep against suspected Shiite dissent before last month's parliamentary elections.

Shiite representatives maintained their 18 seats in the 40-member council.

Terrorist Killed in Abyan Clashes
[Yemen Post] Yemeni army killed a terrorist suspect in the festivities that erupted on Wednesday with suspected Al-Qaeda gunnies in Ja'ar town in Yemen's southern province of Abyan, local sources said.

An officer and a soldier were killed and the injury toll among the forces rose to 14 soldiers in the fierce festivities that lasted for more than four hours, they said.

Amid the fighting, a boom-mobile was seized near Al-Razi Hospital.
Hospitals are un-Islamic, making them legitimate targets...
The fighting broke out after the forces had been dispatched to arrest Al-Qaeda suspects who were said to have holed up in a house in the town, a security source said.

A wanted suspect was maimed and bravely ran away on Tuesday when the forces tried to capture him, the source said, as the authorities said three wanted suspects had been jugged in Ja'ar named as: Muhammad Yahya Muhammad, Ubaid Sami Shafiq Shouba and Ali Ahmed Al-Khuraibi.

South Yemen car bomb kills two
[Geo TV] A car boom in south Yemen on Thursday killed two people and maimed at least 13 others, a local official said, adding that the authorities had yet to establish who was behind the attack.

The kaboom seemed to have been caused by a bomb inside a car belonging to an intelligence official and parked near a security building in bustling Dalea city, the official said.

The bomb killed two passers-by and two soldiers were among those maimed, he said.

Yemen is at the center of a global security alert after the discovery last week of a plot to mail two parcels containing bombs from Yemen to the United States.

Officials say the plot bore the hallmarks of the Yemen-based regional al Qaeda wing, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). The Yemeni government has launched a manhunt for those responsible, prompting a suspected reprisal attack on an oil pipeline.

In a separate attack on Thursday, masked gunnies shot and maimed a soldier manning a checkpoint elsewhere in Dalea province.

Earlier on Thursday, southern secessionists had taken to the streets in Dalea in a weekly demonstration to protest against the detention of separatists.

Violence in southern Yemen, where secessionist sentiment is strong, has been picking up again in recent weeks, after a surge of tit-for-tat fighting between government forces and separatists earlier this year.

North and South Yemen formally united in 1990 but some in the south, where many of Yemen's oil facilities are located, complain northerners have used unification to seize resources and discriminate against them.

Suspicious package found at Glasgow Airport
[Emirates 24/7] Part of Glasgow Airport in Scotland had to be evacuated after a suspicious package was found there, a front man said on Wednesday.

The package was found in the security area where passengers are searched before they board a plane, said the front man, who spoke on anonymity in line with company policy.

He said the area was evacuated and bomb disposal squads were called to the scene.

The airport remained open late Wednesday. Glasgow police confirmed there is an "ongoing situation" at the airport but declined to provide further details.

Glasgow Airport was the target of a failed terror attack in June 2007, when two men attempted to crash a blazing Jeep loaded with explosives into a departure terminal. The car's path was blocked and the explosives failed to detonate.

Chihuahua: Mario Gonzalez Found Dead
Google Translate
The brother of the former Chihuahua state attorney general was found shot to death at a remote area near Chihuahua, Chihuahua, according to Mexican news reports.

Private attorney Mario Gonzalez, who was abducted by an armed group from his office October 21st, was found in the Valle Juarez district on Kilometer 15 of the Chihuahua-Juarez highway near the Foxconn asphalt plant. He had been shot in the head.

The discovery was made following a shootout in Chihuahua Tuesday night when elements of the Policia Federal fought a battle with armed suspects near a gated community on Avenida Miguel de Cervantes after the group ran a checkpoint set up on the corner of the Panamericana highway and Avenida Homero.

At least six men were arrested and two kidnap victims were released. Included in those arrested was Jorge Gutierrez Corral, a former CIPOL coordinator.

Subsequent news reports say interrogations of the arrested included information that led to the discovery of Mario Gonzalez Thursday morning.

Gonzalez was the brother of Patricia Gonzalez, who stepped down October 3rd as Procuradora General de Estado October 3rd after having served under Jose Reyes Baeza, who finished a term as governor of Chihuahua. She was replaced by Carlos Salas, appointed by Chihuahua governor Cesar Duarte who was elected last July 2nd.

Mario Gonzalez was featured in a Youtube video following his abduction where he said his sister was on the payroll of the Juarez Drug Cartel. It is thought he was kidnapped by a local group sympathetic to the Sinaloa Drug Cartel, the Juarez Cartel's main rival in Chihuahua.

In related developments, the Chihuahua state press reports that the Mexican national attorney general office, Procuradora General de la Republica (PGR) has initiated an investigation into the alleged ties between Patricia Gonzalez and the Juarez drug gang.

#3  The corruption of the government in Mexico City has created an environment where the lower caste of indios y mestizos have little or no opportunity for generations of improving their lives or that of their children. Millions have illegally moved north of the border in an attempt to find a future close to them by that caste, which is why that same caste promotes the movement which was trying to avoid this situation from developing. Those left behind have developed a nihilism, an outlook that sees both the government and cartel as nothing more than the same entity, competing basis of power and influence. The cartel at least offers both standing and employment that the government has failed to deliver for generations to these people. These cartels are simply, to these people, an alternative source of patronage to Mexico City. This is what happened a hundred years ago in Mexico. The cycle replays. We get to be collateral damage because of the fools in the Beltway who surrender our interests and security for 'good relations' with people who are only interested in maintaining their own power and position.

Europe
Qaeda parcel bomb 17 minutes from blast: France
[Al Arabiya] One of two al-Qaeda bombs intercepted last week part way between Yemen and the United States was disarmed just 17 minutes before it was programmed to detonate, a French minister said Thursday.

Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux did not say which of the two parcel bombs found last Thursday at airports in Dubai and Britain was so close to exploding, nor what his source of the information was.

"There were parcel bombs from Yemen heading for the United States, and I can tell you, for example, that one of these parcels was disarmed 17 minutes before the planned kaboom," he told France 2 television.
Hortefeux made the remark during a more general discussion of the threat of beturbanned goon attacks on France and was not pressed for more information.

Packages addressed to synagogues in Chicago and holding the hard-to-detect explosive PETN hidden in ink toner cartridges were uncovered in Dubai and Britain last week, sparking a global security alert.

Washington believes the parcel bombs were the work of Saudi beturbanned goon Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, a suspected al-Qaeda bombmaker, and British officials have said they were powerful enough to bring down a plane in flight.

Two Greeks charged in letter bombs plot
A Greek judge charged two men with terrorism Thursday as Athens police announced they had dealt with a parcel bomb delivered to the French embassy.
Kinda poor timing, starting their bomb spree at the same time al-Qaeda started theirs.
Police are searching for five suspects believed to be connected with the series of parcel bombs.
Did the two arrested have cell phones or computers to be checked? Then it shouldn't be long until the idiots are found. This kind of thing isn't as amusing as it used to be.
A 48-hour suspension on international mail remains in place in Greece. There are currently no plans to extend the suspension.

A court official told reporters that 22-year-old chemistry student Panayotis Argyrou and 24-year-old Gerassimos Tskalos refused to talk before the court, saying they did not recognize the procedure.
How very clever of them.
The two men were arrested Monday in possession of two packages, addressed to French President Nicolas Sarkozy an the Belgian embassy in Athens.

Earlier on Thursday, police set off a controlled explosion to destroy a suspected parcel bomb delivered to the French embassy. It was the 14th such package to come from Greece addressed to international targets this week.

On Monday and Tuesday, several foreign embassies in Athens received suspicious packages. Most of the packages were discovered before exploding either at the embassies or in delivery centers, but packages did detonate at the Swiss and Russian embassies. No one was injured by the explosions.
That does seem more like Greek leftwing dilettante idiots, rather than murderously serious jihadis, who are limited by lack of skill, access to raw materials, and alert intelligence agencies rather than anything remotely resembling scruples.
Another package was delivered to the office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, although it was discovered and defused by police without causing damage, and a package addressed to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi caught fire when police investigated it.

Earlier in the week, Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas said all signs pointed to suspects within Greece. "All evidence show this is a clear domestic case, with no connection with international terrorism," he said. "The evidence so far shows we are dealing with extreme left, anarchist groups."

US sanctions terror groups in Mumbai attacks
[Emirates 24/7] The United States imposed sanctions Thursday on two Pakistain-based terrorist organisations and a key leader of recent attacks in Mumbai.

The Treasury Department said it targeted the financial and support networks of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e Mohammed (JeM).

It also took action against Azam Cheema, saying he had helped train operatives for the November 2008 Mumbai attacks and was the "criminal mastermind'>criminal criminal mastermind
" behind the July 2006 Mumbai train bombings carried out by LeT.

The targets also included leaders of LeT and JeM, as well as Al Rehmat Trust, an "operational front" for JeM, the department said in a statement.

LeT, with links to Osama bin Laden and the Al-Qaeda network, already was designated as a foreign terrorist organization in December 2001, the department noted.

"Today's action -- including the designation of Azam Cheema, one of LeT's leading commanders who was involved in the 2008 and 2006 Mumbai attacks -- is an important step in incapacitating the operational and financial networks of these deadly organizations," Stuart Levey, under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said in the statement.

The sanctions ban all transactions with US citizens and companies and freezes any of the targets' assets under US jurisdiction.

In July 2006, a series of coordinated bombings of trains in Mumbai, India's financial capital, killed nearly 200 people. A November 2008 attack at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai claimed 31 lives.

According to investigations, the bombing occurred when Mr Lam rode his motorcycle over the location of the explosive. While inspecting the scene, an investigation team found bomb fragments were scattered around the area.

About 30 meters from the initial blast, a second explosive also went off. This one caused worker Pon Noi-ngern to lose his leg.

Zawahiri vows dire revenge™ for Aafia Siddiqui
Al Qaeda's no 2 in a message released on Thursday vowed Dire Revenge™ on the United States over an 86-year jail sentence handed down in September to a Pak woman convicted of attacking Americans.

Ayman al Zawahri threatened new attacks to avenge the sentencing and presented it as another reason that Paks should overthrow their government and join the jihad against the US. Aafia Siddiqui was convicted in February of two counts of attempted murder after she snatched an assault rifle while in an Afghan cop shoppe and opened fire on her US interrogators.

Her story has sparked fierce passions in Pakistain, where she has become an icon for a population rife with anti-Americanism sentiment. Many across Pakistain's political spectrum believe the US has fabricated charges against her and may have even held her in a secret prison during a five-year period in which she went missing. "O soldiers of Islam! Whoever wants to free Aafia and avenge the assault on Mohammedan women, join the mujahedeen," said al Zawahri in the four-and-a-half minute message released in Arabic, Pashto, Persian and Urdu, a sign al Qaeda is looking to broaden its reach across the Mohammedan world.

"We will fight you until the Day of Judgment, or until you stop your crimes. Imprison whomever you want, kill whoever you want, raid whatever you want. The Mohammedan nation is after you," he said addressing the US.
