Beachwood Reporter on Rahm
From 1/25/2010 edition of a Chicago blog, The Beachwood Reporter by Steve Rhodes

More to come, I'm just one person, people. I bartended last night (thanks to everyone who stopped by, we had a good turnout and a great jukebox run). I'm broke. I've got a Rahm residency piece I started probably two months ago. This stuff isn't easy, it just looks that way. So be patient.

But I'll tell you one thing: The appellate court got it right and I'm not just saying that because I'm opposed to Rahm's mayoral bid. It's the law, which the media seems to want to apply to everyone except favored insiders. Of all the ridiculous reasons why candidates have been ousted from Illinois ballots this campaign season, this would easily stand as the least flimsiest.

But then, the editorial pages and pundits haven't been arguing the law, but for their own warped, intermittent sense of how democracy ought to work. You know, for people we like and people too big to be bothered with the nuances of the law used to bludgeon others.

But that piece isn't ready yet.

In the meantime, ask yourself why Barack Obama is once again supporting the cynical/status quo/Machine/Daley hatchet man instead of the only real progressive/reformer/change agent in the race, just like he's done his entire career.

And let's ask the same thing of Jeff Tweedy, Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and the rest of the phonies trying to buy this thing for a political operative who embodies nearly everything that is wrong with our politics - including people in Hollywood who have given no consideration to the issues facing our city or the other candidates in the race trying to install a friend in high elected office as a favor without any regard to the health of our democracy.

#1  Eagerly awaiting commentary from Dr. Steve.... :-D

#2  Happy to oblige!

It's just a stay of the Appeals Court ruling so that the ballots can be printed with his name. It does suggest that the Supreme Court will decide to hear the case, which I think they should. Mayor Chicago is a big deal, as Joe Biden would say, and if the law is unclear at all on whether he should be on the ballot, then SC review is needed.

That said, Rahm is still a snake :-)

I don't live within the city limits; if I did I would be rending my garments over the lack of a decent candidate. Neither Rahm nor Carol nor Gerry are worth a vote, IMO.

Sorry that I got rid of the text, Beavis, but I hope the nifty image makes up for it. LOL
I'm a little confused and paranoid about how much direct quoting (and from whom) makes us a legal target, but the article is worth a click-through.

#4  is code for new taxes/spending

New taxes/spending, and the understanding that you have to wait until he is out of office before you figure out that it's crap.

#5  The MSM won't report that it's crap until a Republican can be blamed.

Dupe entry: "Kumbaya seating"
All of this talk of "Kumbaya seating" -- aka: bipartisan seating at the president's State of the Union address Tuesday night -- has some hoping a mere symbolic gesture could be a catalyst for change in Washington, better relationships among legislators with wildly disparate views, all of it having a trickle down affect that could grease the machine of government into bipartisan action. But could all of this be more of a distraction when put into practice?

The biggest waste of time EVER!

Fifth Column
Mayor Of Fayetteville, NC, Wants To Honor Vietnam Vets With Anti-Vietnam Agitators
Fayetteville, North Carolina, home of Fort Bragg, is planning a 10-day celebration and homecoming this November to honor Vietnam Vets. Its a honor well deserved. These soldiers, marines, and other vets served our nation honorably.

But Fayetteville Mayor Tony Chavonne (D) decided to "honor" the Vets by reaching out to Quaker House, an anti-Vietnam war protesting outfit. And Quaker House said they are glad to participate and intend to show two anti-war films that include Jane Fonda. As in "Hanoi Jane." This is how they plan to "honor Vietnam vets."

The Mayor (D) said he reached out to the anti-war protestors so the "full story" of the war could be told.

Mayor Chavonne (D) has had these sort of bright ideas in the past. Earlier he suggested that Fayetteville become a sister city with a town in communist Vietnam.
They could exchange re-education camp students.

#1  What a tool that Mayor is. Inviting the" Quackers" to show Hanoi Jane is a slap in the face.

The Vietnam Vets have already had to deal with these asshats once.

Forcing them to deal with them again is like putting a KKK float in the MLK Day Parade.

#2  Well said OS.
Posted by: Whiskey Mike || 01/25/2011 2:35 Comments || Top||

#3  Maybe they can get Hanoi Jane to come too.

I think more than a few Vets would like to meet her face-to-face in a dark alley or bar
Posted by: CrazyFool || 01/25/2011 3:07 Comments || Top||

#4  Maybe they could have a turkey shoot. Be a shame if any of those vets with the vision age brings hit the wrong turkey.

#5  A million Cambodians could not be reached for comment.

The Left can inject "...am I my brother's keeper?"

#6  I'm at the point in life where I occasionally take a peek at the obituaries, and there's an interesting pattern there: anyone who served in Vietnam has that fact mentioned in his obit ("served in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart..."), but I have yet to see any anti-war protesters get the corresponding fact mentioned ("called returning troops baby-killers...") It seems there is a common cultural understanding as to which group is going to get a crisp hand salute at the Pearly Gates.

#7  Let's honor the mayor for his service by tarring and feathering him.

It is about on the same level of disrespect.
Posted by: DarthVader || 01/25/2011 8:54 Comments || Top||

#8  If Da Mayor wants the "full story" to be told, then there should be some former boat people there to tell what happened when Ho's Dear Comrades took over.

Posted by: Swamp Blondie || 01/25/2011 12:25 Comments || Top||

#9  They could always treat him to one of John F****** Kerry's, who served in Vietnam, favorite activities and tape the wires from a field phone to the mayor's privates. Then they could let the veterans give him a ring and tell him what they think.

/Sarcasm

#10  When I assumed command of the Counterdrug Task force in 1991, our headquaters at Mather AFB was a prior USMC navigation training building. The Master Gunnery Sergeant there had adorned every urinal in the building with photographs of Jane Fonda so everyone that used them could demonstrate their opinion with great fluidity. They continued to be enthusiastically used by Army and Air Force personnel barely born during the Viet Nam War, confirming that her legacy remained one worthy of such attention decades later. Some things cannot be forgiven!

#11  Fayetteville NC has a long and sorted history of not caring about the 50,000 soldiers and airmen. This is no surprise.

No, just a small waste of time. And all this searching for a date will be salutary for the Democrats, who are feeling rammed home the idea that they lost.

#2  Kumbaya seating at the circus? If I watched this spectacle, it would only be to see if the SCOTUS Justices showed up. That only burns up a few minutes. Could probably pare that down by reading about it tomorrow.
