Righthaven fined $5,000 for misleading Nevada’s federal court
A few highlights:
A judge today fined newspaper copyright lawsuit filer Righthaven LLC of Las Vegas $5,000 for misleading Nevada’s federal court about its lawsuits.

Besides the $5,000 sanction, Hunt ordered Righthaven to disclose its original lawsuit contract with Stephens Media in active lawsuits over Review-Journal material. He also ordered that a transcript of today’s hearing, in which he made several negative comments about Righthaven’s conduct, be posted on Righthaven court dockets.

As word spreads among attorneys of the sanction, it may increase the chance that defendants that settled with Righthaven may reopen their cases – or separately sue Righthaven – on the theory settlements were made based on facts misrepresented by Righthaven.

Singaporeans want more sex: Survey
[Straits Times] WHETHER they are too tired from work, busy with the kids or just too shy, it seems Singaporeans are not making love as often as they would like.

Men here had sex 5.2 times on average per month - even though they would ideally like to be doing it 8.7 times - said a survey commissioned by drug maker Pfizer.

Singaporean women also felt they were somewhat lacking in romantic encounters, although they were slightly less enthusiastic than the men. They had sex 5.5 times per month, but would rather be doing it 7.3 times.

The same pattern emerged across all 10 countries surveyed by Pfizer, which makes erectile dysfunction drug Viagra. Its online poll featured 3,282 respondents sampled at random from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and China.

In Singapore, 301 people - 150 men and 151 women - took part in the survey, which was carried out between October last year and this January. The participants were aged between 31 and 74 and had all had sex at least once in the past year.

The survey showed that, on average, the 'ideal' amount of sex is 10.5 times a month for men, and 8.8 times for women.

#3  Men here had sex 5.2 times on average per month...They [women] had sex 5.5 times per month...

Huh, so what do they do with the .3 times a month difference?

The participants were aged between 31 and 74 and had all had sex at least once in the past year.

So if the guys were getting it 5.2 times a month, or 62.4 times a year and someone in the group got it once a year does that mean someone else got it 124.8 times a year?

#4  Pfizer looking for new markets? The earlier reported "would like" numbers don't seem to square with the 10.5/8.8 "would like" numbers. Maybe the higher numbers are for all 10 countries. There is probably an age factor (The "so what" or "why bother" factor) operating in the numbers too.

Europe
France supports proposal for emergency summit on EU debt problem
(KUNA) - La Belle France fully supports a move to hold an emergency summit of Eurozone leaders Friday to discuss the ongoing and worsening debt situation in a number of countries, a government spokesperson said Wednesday.

"La Belle France has always supported holding Eurogroup meetings in case of necessity," government spokesperson Valerie Pecresse said after a government meeting here.

She indicated that the issue of a summit, proposed by EU President Herman Van Rompuy on Tuesday, was discussed at the regular Cabinet meeting chaired by President Nicolas Sarkozy
...23rd and current President of the French Republic and ex officio Co-Prince of Andorra. Sarkozy is married to singer-songwriter Carla Bruni, who has a really nice birthday suit...
today.

The holding of the special summit in Brussels Friday has still not been confirmed, but Eurozone leaders are anxious to rapidly put an end to the hesitation and ambiguity concerning indebted countries like Greece. Markets have reacted nervously to the Greek debt crisis and fears that this country could default.

The Euro has fallen below 1.40 to the US dollar for the first time in several months, having peaked at over 1.44 to the US currency last week.

Greece is in need of a second bail-out package in excess of Euros 110 billion to meet its debt repayments and costs. That country received a similar package several months ago, but says more is now needed.

At the same time, speculation is rife that Italia, the Eurozone's fourth-largest economy, is also facing financial problems and may need assistance to meet its debt commitments. Along with Greece, Ireland and Portugal have recently sought EU bailouts. Spain is also said to be fragile in the face of its growing debt burden.

The Eurozone comprises 16 of the 27 European Union

members which have adopted the Euro as a single currency.

aid and 33 billion euros from private creditors to weather its debt crisis, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Wednesday.

The IMF, in a report on the state of its massive loan to Athens, said it intended to continue its financing, but predicted a deeper 2011 recession than previously thought in Greece, with the economy contracting 3.9 per cent.

Govt devises safety code for transvestites
[Dawn] The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
government on Tuesday devised a code for transvestites, performing in wedding parties and other festivities, to curtail incidents of their harassment.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the provincial government spokesperson, told journalists here on Tuesday about the measures, aimed at curbing exploitation of transvestites.

A group of transvestites was also present on the occasion.

Some persons near Bakhsho area of Kazana cop shoppe reportedly abused and beaten up a group of transvestites besides shaving off their heads on Sunday night after they performed in a wedding party.

On Monday, a number of transvestites under the banners of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Shemale Association staged a protest demonstration against the incident and demanded protection for their community.

"Transvestites are human beings and they have equal rights as men and women enjoy in our country. So we want to make it clear that providing protection to this segment is also responsibility of government and we will ensure it," Mr Hussain said.

He condemned the Sunday's night incident and said that police had locked away nine persons, reportedly involved in the crime, and produced them before the court, which would decide their fate.

To avoid such type of incidents in future, he said, the government in consultation with the representatives of transvestites decided that those wishing to take transvestites for performance in their parties would get their particulars registered at the cop shoppe concerned.

"Similarly, all such parties will be closed at 12pm so that the transvestites can reach their homes safely," he added.

Mr Hussain asked people not to tease transvestites. He said that the code would be implemented initially in the lovely provincial capital but it could be replicated in other places, wherever such problems were reported.

To a question, he said that in line with the Supreme Court of Pakistain's orders, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government was reviewing different proposals to offer alternative sources of livelihood to transvestites.

"There are many areas such as intelligence gathering or service delivery in health and education sectors where transvestites can be recruited," he said.

Sanam, joint secretary of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Shemale Association, expressed satisfaction over the government response.

Pakistan central bank governor resigns
[Dawn] Pakistain's central bank governor has resigned, a finance ministry official and media reports said on Wednesday, making him the second governor to leave in just over a year and sending a negative signal on Pakistain's economic outlook.

It was unclear exactly when Shahid Kardar, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistain, resigned, but his departure is likely to further shake confidence in Pakistain's commitment to fiscal reforms urged by the IMF and other international lenders.

Kardar is the third senior policy maker to quit in Pakistain in less than a year and a half, following previous central bank governor Salim Raza's resignation in June 2010 and former finance minister Shaukat Tarin's resignation in February last year.

"I can confirm that he has submitted his resignation," a Finance Ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

Central bank governors normally serve three-year terms. There was no reason given for his resignation. It was not clear whether Kardar's resignation had been accepted by President Asif Ali President Ten Percent Zardari
... sticky-fingered husband of the late Benazir Bhutto ...
.

IMF and Pakistain officials, including the State Bank of Pakistain governor, are due to meet later this month, although no date has been announced. It is unknown how Kardar's departure will affect the talks but a former economic adviser said it would hit financial markets.

"The IMF deals with institutions and not individuals so it's likely the acting governor will attend the IMF meetings," said Sakib Sherani, a former economic adviser to the finance ministry.

"What's critical for the markets is who his successor is and why he resigned."

The central bank chief front man said he was unable to confirm the resignation. The IMF was unavailable for comment.

At a news conference in Quetta, in response to a question about reports of Kardar's resignation, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani
... Pakistain's erstwhile current prime minister, whose occasional feats of mental gymnastics can be awe-inspiring ...
said: "Not to my knowledge."

Repeated efforts by Rooters to contact Kardar were unsuccessful.

The federal government has been reluctant to implement fiscal reforms demanded by the International Monetary Fund and supported by the central bank.

The State Bank of Pakistain has urged a broadening of the tax base by improving documentation of the economic system and gradual elimination of untargeted subsidies.

These are politically unpopular for the federal government. It has also called for better debt management by the government to contain the fiscal deficit.

At the same time, the government is struggling to get back on track an $11 billion IMF bail-out programme. The release of a sixth tranche has been delayed since August 2010 because of the government's poor implementation of fiscal reforms.

Kardar joined as the central bank governor in September 2010, after the previous governor Salim Raza stepped down for "personal reasons" in June 2010.

A senior government official at the time, however, said the government had been trying to curtail the central bank's independence, prompting Raza's departure.

Pakistain's main stock index seemed unfazed by the reports and provisionally closed 0.60 per cent higher, while the rupee ended flat at 85.84/88 to the dollar, unchanged from the previous day's close.

Pentagon: 24,000 files stolen in cyber attack
I wonder Hu might be doing this?
The Pentagon suffered one of its largest-ever cyber thefts this spring when more than 24,000 files were stolen by a foreign government, officials disclosed on Thursday.

William Lynn, the deputy secretary of defense, said at the National Defense University in Washington that the files were stolen from a defense industry computer in a single intrusion in March..

“It is a significant concern that over the past decade, terabytes of data have been extracted by foreign intruders from corporate networks of defense companies,” he said at the start of an afternoon speech laying out the Defense Department’s first unified strategy for cyber security. “Indeed, in a single intrusion this March, 24,000 files were taken.”

Lynn said the massive attack was not by an individual but by another country. “It was done, we think, by a foreign intelligence service,” he said, declining to identify the country. Theft “was data-related,” he said.

A Transcendental Cure for Post-Traumatic Stress
A pilot study of five Iraq and Afghanistan veterans published in the June 2011 issue of Military Medicine showed a 50% reduction in PTSD symptoms after just eight weeks of practicing TM.

There is a scientific basis for the observed benefits of TM for combat-related PTSD. In several studies, TM has been shown to buffer fight-or-flight responses, which are thought to be overactive in people with PTSD, as evidenced by their hypervigilance, anxiety and exaggerated startle responses.

In addition, TM has been found to reduce blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart attacks and strokes—other conditions in which an overactive fight-or-flight response may play a role. In a similar manner, TM may modulate nervous system responses, thereby allowing affected veterans to relax and leave behind the traumas of war.

Clearly, there is a need for new, creative approaches: Transcendental Meditation, better known as TM, is a promising candidate. An ancient Vedic technique developed in India, TM was brought to the West in the late 1950s by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It involves sitting comfortably with eyes closed for 20 minutes twice a day while thinking a mantra. It does not require adherence to any religious belief system or ritual practices. Yet to date there are over 340 peer-reviewed papers describing the beneficial effects of TM on the mind and body.

#5  I read where a local serviceman with PTSD who was blown up by an IED had good results with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. However, the VA doesn't recognize this as viable therapy for PTSD. He said the therapy is useful but not long-lasting. The usual course is 40 treatments.

#6  I did TM after Nam and it seemed to help. It does calm the mind. I also used christian sayings: "Jesus loves you" as mantras with the same results. The problem is developing the discipline and commitment.

#7  I read one suggestion (about Vietnam veterans so it was some time ago) of having hot women assigned to reintegrate them back to society and thank them for their sacrifice in very personal ways. Who knows if that would work, but I suspect a number of single military folk would be willing to give it a chance.

#8  The Israelis now regularly use marijuana for combat stress and say it works wonders.

Call it the "bulb dimming" effect that in typical marijuana users makes them mentally lethargic and less prone to emotionalism and stress. In someone with PTSD, it takes the "edge" off the stress, so they can unwind and mentally slow down somewhat.

Likewise, therapeutic amounts of the drug ecstasy also show promise. In that case, the psychological effect is to make the user feel safer, protected, and surrounded by people that are friendly.

I mention this because many people just cannot penetrate eastern mental health disciplines, but the drugs seem to be more universal in application.

#9  I should mention that along with TM I also smoked some pot and dated some very hot women.
