Afghanistan
US Consulate in Herat hit by car boom
Bomb and small arms attack.

From TFA:

The Taliban told the BBC a suicide bomber had detonated explosives outside the building before dawn on Friday.

Other fighters then opened fire on the consulate. Several Afghan police are reported to have been killed and injured in the gun battle.

It is the latest in a series of attacks ahead of the withdrawal of foreign combat troops from Afghanistan in 2014.

An Afghan army spokesman told the BBC that the initial explosion had damaged outer defences of the US consulate, allowing the attackers to breach the perimeter and shoot at the consulate buildings. The bomb had been placed in a car.

The gunfire continued for some time, reporters at the scene said.

American jihadi believed killed by al-Shabab in Somalia
More from yesterday's wonderful news.
When Omar Shafik Hammami was 20 years old, he left Alabama in search of a religious purpose. By 22, he was in Somalia, fighting with al-Shabab. He took the name Abu Mansoor al-Amriki and rose to the level of commander, gaining a spot on the FBI's list of most-wanted terrorists with a $5 million bounty on his head.

On Thursday, at age 29, his journey apparently ended. Amriki -- "the American" -- was gunned down in a southern Somali village in an attack ordered by al-Shabab's top leaders. He had fallen out with that militia in a long and bitter struggle over influence and ideology.

Reports of his death have proven false before, but the reports appear credible this time. Neither the Somali government nor al-Shabab has acknowledged the attack.

Amriki and another foreign fighter, Osama al-Britani, a British citizen of Pakistani origin, were apparently killed in an early morning ambush in a village in southern Somalia. For months, Amriki warned that al-Shabab's leaders were trying to kill him. In April, he tweeted: "Their goal is to kill us regardless of reason."

Meaning the Shaboob leadership, like the leadership of most movements, found that it was better to live the good life than live a good life, and those 'committed to the cause' become a nuisance.

Chicago way and all that. Barry would understand.

Jubaland Prez escapes unhurt after car bomb attack
KISMAYO, Somalia -- The President of Somalia's Jubaland Administration Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) survived car bomb attack on Thursday, highlighting first-ever deadliest attack plotted by Al Shabaab terror group in Kismayo, Garowe Online reports.

Explosive-laden car hit President Madobe's motorcade near Saadam II apartment building in Southern port city of Kismayo shortly after a delegation led by Madobe landed at Kismayo Airport, officials said. The targeted convoy was driving into Jubaland Presidential palace when what appeared to have been caused by a suicide car bomb left 20 people including civilians and security guards dead and dozens wounded.

Speaking to the media in Kismayo, President Madobe strongly condemned the attack and called it "Futile and terrorist attack" aimed at him. "The attack was an attempt on my life but i am well and unhurt at all," said Madobe.

The President accused Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group of organizing the terror attack and sent his condolence to the victims of the explosion.

After the huge explosions, reports indicated that President Madobe was wounded in the car bomb explosions but he appeared assured while he was addressing the media members after the bombing.

Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack via twitter: "The Mujahidiin carried out a martyrdom operation against the apostate militia leader Ahmed Madobe and his officials in Kismayo," Al Shabaab said on its twitter feed.

Cairo Accuses Hamas of Training Egyptian Militants
Egyptian state television on Thursday accused Palestinian Hamas of training Egyptian Islamists in how to carry out bombings, piling yet more pressure on the Muslim Brotherhood, ally of Hamas. In neighboring Gaza, the ruling Hamas Islamists strongly denied the allegations.

The allegations that Hamas has been training Egyptian militants could lead the military-backed authorities to escalate their crackdown on the Brotherhood.

"Security authorities have learned that the military wing of the Hamas movement trained several people to undertake car bombing operations and trained various others to make explosives," said a presenter on state television.

"The military wing of the Hamas movement provided various Salafi jihadists and also other religious currents with 400 landmines. The security apparatus documented this and they will be arrested."

Fawzi Barhoum, spokesman for the Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip, said of the report: "This is completely incorrect".

It was an "attempt to demonize Hamas," he added.

Hamas has recently tried to lower tension with Egypt, ordering Muslim preachers to mute their criticism of Cairo. At Gaza street rallies, Hamas fighters have flashed a four-finger salute - a show of support for Morsi.

Sinai Jihadists Say They killed Egyptian Soldiers
[An Nahar] A little known jihadist group in Egypt's Sinai on Thursday grabbed credit for two boom-mobileings that killed six Egyptian soldiers a day earlier in the border town of Rafah.

Jund al-Islam, or Islam's Soldiers in English, made the claim in a statement posted on krazed killer Islamist forums.

The statement accused the military of targeting "unarmed Mohammedans" in a campaign to quell an Islamist krazed killer insurgency in the north of the peninsula.

"It was necessary for your brothers in Jund al-Islam to quickly respond to these crimes," the statement said.

"Two big security installations including the military intelligence headquarters were targeted," the statement said, adding that the attacks were carried out by two jacket wallahs.

The military said six soldiers were killed in Wednesday's blasts, which targeted the military headquarters and a nearby checkpoint.

Little is known about Jund al-Islam, which was identified by state media as one of the krazed killer groups operating in Sinai.

Egypt Tanks Cross Fence Leading to Gaza
[An Nahar] Two Egyptian army tanks crossed an initial border fence leading to Gazoo for the first time on Thursday, witnesses said, but did not enter the Paleostinian territory itself.
Um. Oh dear. This is not a good sign.
Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers neither confirmed nor denied the incursion, but said no Egyptian tanks had entered the besieged Strip.

The tanks "crossed the first Egyptian border fence along the corridor between Egypt and (Gazoo), and drove along the road running next to the cement wall" that Egypt built, the witnesses told Agence La Belle France Presse.

They said it was the "first time Egyptian tanks have been in this area, although they didn't cross into the Paleostinian side," adding that soldiers on top of the tanks had masked faces.
Oooh, masked faces. Ya don't see much of that in Gaza...
A front man for Gazoo's Hamas government, Ihab al-Ghassin, told AFP that no Egyptian tanks had crossed onto the Israeli-blockaded territory.

Hamas' interior ministry front man Islam Shahwan said the movement's "security forces denied entry to any Egyptian tanks," but gave no further details.
Suuuuure they did...
Twin boom-mobile blasts on Wednesday targeting Egypt's army killed at least six soldiers in Rafah on the border with Gazoo.

The Rafah border crossing -- the only gateway into the Paleostinian enclave that bypasses Israel -- was shut and all roads in and out of the town closed as armed forces combed the area for suspects.

Egypt Extends State of Emergency by Two Months
[An Nahar] Egypt's interim authorities on Thursday extended a state of emergency in force since mid-August by another two months because of the country's continued insecurity.

President Adly Mansour had initially announced a month-long state of emergency on August 14, at a time when deadly unrest swept Egypt as police dispersed two Islamist protest camps.

"President Adly Mansour decided to extend the state of emergency...by two months," presidential front man Ehab Bedawy said in a statement.

The decision was taken in light of "developments and the security situation in the country," he said.

More than 1,000 people were killed on August 14 and following days after police dispersed two sit-ins in Cairo by ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi's supporters.

Islamists at the time lashed out at Christians, accused of supporting the military coup which ousted Morsi, and burned down several dozen churches and Coptic Christian-owned properties.

Violent protests have largely subsided, giving way to myrmidon attacks such as a suspected suicide kaboom that targeted the interior minister last week in a failed liquidation bid.

The state of emergency grants security forces wide-ranging powers of arrest.

According to a temporary charter adopted by Mansour, the state of emergency can be extended after the three-month period only by referendum.

2 Dead as Nigerian Police Station Hit with Bombs, RPGs
[An Nahar] Gunmen with explosives and rocket-propelled grenades attacked a cop shoppe in Nigeria's restive northeast, killing two officers and injuring another in an incident similar to previous raids by Islamist myrmidons, authorities said Thursday.

"The heavily armed gunnies headed to the cop shoppe and burnt it down using IEDs (improvised bombs) and RPGs before engaging our men in a shootout in which we lost two officers while a third sustained gunshot wounds," Adamawa state police front man Mohammed Ibrahim told Agence La Belle France Presse.

He said the attackers in cars and on cycle of violences stormed Ga'anda village on Wednesday where they burnt down the cop shoppe with homemade bombs and grenades.

"Our officers were overpowered by the attackers who had superior firepower," he said, adding that a police patrol vehicle was also burnt in the attack that lasted two hours.

No arrest has been made, he added.

Residents of Ga'anda said some 20 gunnies had entered the village around 9:00 pm chanting "Allahu Akbar."

Over 230 people have been killed in violence linked to Boko Haram in the last six weeks, according to a Rooters count - one of the bloodiest periods since Jonathan declared a state of emergency and launched a military crackdown in three northeastern states in May.

Boko Haram, which wants to impose strict Islamic law in northern Nigeria, is considered the biggest security threat to Africa's top oil exporter and second largest economy.

The air force bombed two of Boko Haram's camps in a remote and sandy region of Borno state on Tuesday before soldiers pursued fleeing hard boys, killing 10 in a shootout, military front man Sagir Musa told news hounds.

"Following air strikes and subsequent destruction of Boko camps at Mada ... some troops had an encounter with fleeing Boko Haram gunnies on the Maiduguri-Damboa road at about 10 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Tuesday," he said.

"Ten gunnies bit the dust, while four AK-47 rifles, 250 rounds of assorted ammunition and 10 Boko Haram cycle of violences were recovered and a soldier was maimed," he added.

They were cleared of the charges on Thursday for lack of evidence, according to the verdict read by judge Hilal Mahfal at a lower court in Sanaa.

Two of the group however were sentenced to 18 months in prison each after being convicted of forging identity documents and entering Yemen illegally, an AFP correspondent at court reported.

The other three are to be freed.

China Sentences 3 to Death over Xinjiang Unrest
[An Nahar] A Chinese court Thursday sentenced three people to death and another to 25 years in jail over violent unrest in the ethnically-divided Xinjiang region in which dozens were killed, state media reported.

China labeled the June 26 riots as a "violent terrorist attack", a charge rights groups say is often used to justify the authorities' use of force against the mostly Mohammedan Uighur minority, and reacted by vowing to crack down on such incidents.

The Intermediate People's Court in Xinjiang's Turpan Prefecture sentenced Ahmatniyaz Sidiq, Urayim Eli and Abdulla Esrapil to death for crimes including murder and taking part in a "terrorist organization," Xinhua news agency said late Thursday.

Sidiq was also accused of leading the group and of arson.

Another man, Akram Usman, was sentenced to 25 years in jail for his role in the group, murder and arson, Xinhua reported.

"They advocated and spread religious extremism, watched violence-inciting videos from foreign terrorist organizations, and read books on religious extremism to further conspire on terrorist activities," said Xinhua citing the court.

The festivities in June were the deadliest to hit the western desert region -- home to around 10 million Uighurs -- since 2009, when riots killed around 200 people.

Xinhua said at the time that "knife-wielding mobs" attacked cop shoppes and other sites in Lukqun township, Shanshan county, before officers opened fire, leaving 35 people dead.

On Thursday the agency reported that the June attacks killed 24, including two coppers, and injured 23 others.

From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead...
on murder and terrorism charges.

While the situation returned to normal in the evening, traders and transporters said by that time damage had already been done due to what they described as an unannounced strike.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
they were loath to name the party or peo-ple behind the city's sudden closure.

The violent situation obtaining in the city also forced public and private educational institutions, including universities, to suspend their activities and even cancel their scheduled exams. A large number of schools also announced a holiday amid a sudden breakdown of law and order.

Scattered incidents of violence that continued for a few hours in the morning caused residents to stay indoors and kept businesses closed.

Armed men remerged in parts of the city as several areas reverberated with gunfire followed by arson attacks.

An official at the central fire station confirmed that four vehicles were torched in different parts of the city in the morning.

A coach was set on fire in Korangi near Nasir Jump. Similarly a truck met the same fate near Nagan Chowrangi and after a few minutes a bus was set on fire in New Karachi. Another bus was torched in Gulistan-e-Jauhar near Rabia City.

The fire official said that in all cases fire tenders were unable to reach the spot timely due to a precarious security situation. The news of scattered violent incidents by the broadcast media convinced a majority of traders and owners of fuel stations to keep their business closed for the rest of the day. And the public transport disappeared from roads following arson attacks.

"In some cases, a few youngsters came to our terminals in North Nazimabad and Federal B. Area and asked us not to bring out buses today due to a strike," said Irshad Bukhari of the Karachi Transport Ittehad.

"We were not aware of the unannounced strike and managed to convey the message to our members but still a large number of buses were on roads by that time, which led to attacks in a few areas."

He said the buses would be on roads on Thursday as there was no protest call from any party and he saw the situation normalising by the next day.

"The situation has started turning better which boosted the confidence of many transporters to bring their vehicles on roads. I believe Thursday would be a normal day," said Mr Bukhari.

Ateeq Meer of the Karachi Tajir Ittehad also blamed the security situation, saying it did not allow the traders to even start business.

He said markets, mostly in residential areas, reopened in the afternoon but major commercial centres remained closed.

"The situation turned better in the second half of the day and by the evening it was almost normal but the damage had already been done," he said. "In the past we supported genuine causes of parties for business closures to condemn loss of lives and terrorism but this time we were not approached by anyone. Seeing the trend tomorrow (Thursday) would be a normal business day."

In the second half of the day, some fuel station owners, mainly in residential areas, resumed their business.

"There are around 170 CNG stations in the city and 350 petrol pumps," said a senior member of the Pakistain Petroleum Dealers Association. "In fact there was no advisory from our end for today (Wednesday).

The owners of stations decided on their own considering the security situation in their areas. Majority of the stations resumed business in the evening and some owners stayed at distance but we hope normal business on Thursday."

Israel says will act if WMDs transferred to Hezbollah
[Ynet] As global community tries to prevent Syria attack by negotiating surrender of country's chemical arms, Israel says in favor of diplomatic solution, yet watches warily from side

As the international community tries to reach an understanding regarding Syrian chemical disarmament, Israel closely monitors the actions of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
. Officials made clear Wednesday night that Israel has not withdrawn, and the red lines it set in reference to Assad have not changed. In other words, Jerusalem clarified, if the Syrian president tries to deliver chemical weapons, or weapons that tip the scales in favor of Hezbollah, Israel will act to prevent their transfer.

"Our red lines have not changed," said an Israeli official. "Assad should understand already that he should not play around with us on this issue. Our policy has not changed, despite what is happening in the international arena. If something looks to us like an unusual step, it will be dealt with." These words were spoken even as the international effort to reach an agreement went up a level -- Wednesday night five members of the UN Security Council were expected to meet to further discuss solving the Syrian crisis.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon hinted in speeches given in recent days that Israel has red lines, but declined to elaborate. Now, given the international community's efforts to dismantle the non-conventional weapons Assad has collected, Jerusalem emphasized that Israel reserved the right to respond to any attempt to arm Hezbollah with weapons of the sort. According to foreign reports, the IDF carried out operations in Syria several times, hitting shipments of weapons that could have been transferred to the Lebanese terrorist organization and endanger Israel.

Jerusalem views events on the Syrian front with a discerning eye and cautious optimism, as it also does when considering the attitude of the US towards Iran. "We must see what happens in the end," said an Israeli official, "but it is clear our stance is that a loaded gun must be placed on the table in the form of a real military threat, and this is the appropriate position to take. Once Assad and the Russians realized that the United States was serious, they led the diplomatic process. This policy holds true for Iran's future as well."

Even President Shimon Peres said that he believed the current diplomatic efforts to be a better option than a military attack, provided that they lead to the dismantling of chemical weapons Syria.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a jab at US President Barack Obama
My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it...
in comments he made on Wednesday night, emphasizing his position that Israel cannot trust anyone on security issues.

To naval officers at a graduation ceremony in Haifa, Netanyahu said, "These days, perhaps more than ever, the main rule that guides me in my actions as prime minister and on which I am very particular, is: If I am not for myself, who will be? If we are not for ourselves, who will be? We are for ourselves." Hours later, Ya'alon re-emphasized the same principle, during a ceremony at the Latrun Armored Corps Memorial, "In the fog that covers the Middle East, we must understand that we need to rely only on ourselves."

The five member states -- the US, La Belle France, Britannia, Russia and China -- were supposed to meet Wednesday to consider the French ultimatum draft resolution on Syria's chemical weapons, but the meeting was canceled because Russia opposed the proposal.

US politicians said if diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria according to the Russian program failed, the Senate vote on a military strike in Syria would take place next week.

Jerusalem court convicts Hamas 'charity' workers
[Ynet] Three Israelis
...Israeli Arabs, one assumes...
helped boost terror group's popularity among capital's Mohammedan population through various educational, welfare activities

"A Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, 'charity' operating in Jerusalem is assisting in the absorption of the terror group's ideology," the capital's District Court determined Wednesday, after convicting three Israelis of activity in a terrorist organization.

Yakav Abu Asav, Qafah Sarhan and Ahmad Aliyan were part of the effort to establish Hamas' social infrastructure in the city. According to the indictment and ruling, the three served as the heads of Hamas' advisory council in Jerusalem and worked to boost Hamas' popularity among the capital's Mohammedan population in the city by promoting diverse activities in the fields of education, welfare and religious services.

The courts said that as part of the illicit activity, Hamas operated an "activists' committee" in three different parts of the city. An advisory council comprised of key Hamas supporters from each part of the city would convene from time to time to promote the agenda of the Islamist group, which rules the Gazoo Strip.

Judge Amnon Cohen said the supposed charitable activities served as the basis for the transition to terrorist activity. He said the charity organizations are a key component in Hamas' Dawah (proselytizing) system in the West Bank. According to Cohen, this is "a system of community services offered by Hamas to its supporters and the general Paleostinian population in the fields of religion, medicine and welfare through the operation of a system of educational institutions for all ages that is concentrated near the mosques."

"This system of services, which supposedly has a humanitarian purpose, is meant to expand the public support base of the terror organization and create within the population an economic dependency on the terror group, as well create sympathy and a commitment to its path and values," the judge said.

A fourth defendant in the affair, Ashraf A'ashur, was recently convicted as part of a plea bargain of financing terror, after he worked to transfer funds to Hamas.

Southeast Asia
Muslim rebel clashes spread to second southern Philippine island
[Al Ahram] Fighting between security forces and rogue Moslem rebels seeking to declare an independent state escalated in a southern Philippine city on Thursday and spread to a second island, officials said.

US-trained commandos exchanged gunfire with a breakaway faction of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) holding dozens of hostages in Zamboanga City, on the southernmost island of Mindanao, army front man Domingo Tutaan said.

The violence illustrates the security challenge potential investors face in the impoverished south of the majority Roman Catholic country despite a strong nationwide economic performance in the second quarter.

It also raises questions about the strength of a peace deal agreed last October with a larger Moslem rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, to end four decades of conflict that killed 120,000 people and displaced two million in the resource-rich region.

The Moslem Moro make up the largest non-Christian group in the Philippines, at around 10 percent of a total 97 million Filipinos.

Many houses were on fire on Thursday as soldiers retook a district that rebels occupied for three days, a Rooters witness said. Loud kabooms and sporadic gunfire were heard as rebels shelled government positions.

Troops also made house-to-house searches after expelling rebels for possible booby-traps, moving cautiously to avoid sniper fire. Officials said security forces suffered no casualties. They did not know about rebel casualties.

The violence spread to the smaller island of Basilan
...Basilan is a rugged, jungle-covered island in the southern Philippines. It is a known stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf, bandidos, and maybe even orcs. Most people with any sense travel with armed escorts...
where soldiers fought for nearly two hours before turning back 150 gunnies even as troops shelled MNLF bases, Tutaan said.

"We don't want any civilian casualties," Tutaan told a news conference in Manila. "... (we) want that this incident in Zamboanga to be resolved immediately or as soon as possible."

Three soldiers were killed and nine maimed in the Basilan battle, he added.

Zamboanga Mayor Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said she had opened a communication line with MNLF founder and breakaway faction leader Nur Misuari, appealing to him to free hostages, particularly women and kiddies.

The standoff has paralyzed Zamboanga with as many as 170 civilians believed to be trapped, if not physically held hostage.

Schools and offices were closed for the fourth day, but some shops and banks reopened. Flights and ferry services were also suspended. Nearly 13,000 people have been displaced in five districts of the port, known as the city of flowers.

Again, the danger for Manila + USA here is that foreign Militants, Groups will become inspired to travel to Mindanao in order to wage insurgency + jihad in the name of Radical Islam + hardline Sharia, in time to eventually outnumber + ender irrelevant the local Boyz + even the Commie NPA, etc.

Philippine troops battle Abu Sayyaf in Basilan
Philippine soldiers thwarted a plan by suspected Abu Sayyaf rebels to attack the police headquarters in Lamitan City of Basilan province, as a standoff involving followers of Nur Misuari in this Zamboanga City dragged into a fourth day on Thursday.

Gov. Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said rangers clashed with about 100 armed men on their way to Camp Uno in Lamitan City around 8:30 a.m. Three rebels and a civilian were killed.

The island province of Basilan is a short boat ride away from Zamboanga City, where Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) fighters loyal to Nur Misuari have been holding dozens hostage since Monday. The four-day-old crisis has virtually paralyzed Zamboanga, a lively port city of nearly a million people, with most commercial flights and ferry services suspended.

Hataman said Abu Sayyaf militants, not MNLF forces, were involved in the Lamitan clash. He said it was impossible that the MNLF were involved because “they have only 100 men there and all of them are in Zamboanga City.”

Perez said one Army soldier and two civilian volunteers suffered minor injuries. “Lawless elements” were involved in the fighting, he said, describing them as “80 percent members of the Abu Sayyaf and 20 percent MNLF.”

Monitor: Islamist rebels kill 12 Alawites in Syrian village
[Ynet] Fighters from an al Qaeda-linked rebel group killed 12 members of the minority Alawite sect in central Syria after seizing their village, an opposition monitoring group said on Wednesday. The latest killings occurred after rebels of the Nusra Front stormed the village of Maksar al-Hesan east of Homs on Tuesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Alawites are an offshoot sect of Shiite Islam and have been increasingly targeted by radical fighters among the Sunni Mohammedan-dominated opposition in the revolt against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

U.S. total of Syrian gas deaths could include bomb casualties
(Reuters) - One of the most precise and dramatic details cited by the Obama administration as proof that Syrian forces used chemical weapons in an August 21 attack was the death toll, which an official U.S. government assessment put at 1,429 people, including 426 children.

The number, first released by the White House on August 30, was underscored by Secretary of State John Kerry in a fiery indictment of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, describing videos of what he said were victims of the attack, which Syria denies.

"Instead of being tucked safely in their beds at home, we saw rows of children lying side by side sprawled on a hospital floor, all of them dead from Assad's gas and surrounded by parents and grandparents who had suffered the same fate. The United States Government now knows that at least 1,429 Syrians were killed in this attack, including at least 426 children," he said.
