Saiqa Special Forces: Wanis Bukhamada in perfect health
[Libya Herald] Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...

Government forces bomb convoy heading to Benghazi as violence continues
[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army (LNA) has claimed to have carried out Arclight airstrikes on a convoy of 30 vehicles attempting to reach Benghazi as festivities continued across the city.

Mohammed Al-Hajezi, a front man for Operation Dignity and pro-government forces, told the Libya Herald that the air force had bombed weapons, vehicles and personnel from Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
forces as they travelled from Sirte to Benghazi yesterday.

explained that the Arclight airstrikes took place east of Sirte on the road between Wadi Harawa and Nawfaliya. Hejazi claimed the entire convoy had been destroy and added that any forces opposed to the the army trying to enter the eastern city could expect to suffer the same fate.

In Benghazi itself, fierce festivities have continued following relative quiet across the city both this morning and yesterday morning. Thirty-six people were reported killed in fighting in Benghazi over a period of 24 hours. The online publication Bowabat Al-Wassat has said that a total of 254 individuals have now been killed in the city since the beginning of renewed festivities in mid-October, quoting medical sources.

In the Sabri district, the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy worked yesterday to evacuate staff and patients remaining at the Jumhuriya maternity hospital which has become caught-up in fighting there.

Navy ship on fire as clashes rage around Benghazi port
[Libya Herald] Fires are raging onboard a Libyan Navy vessel after it was struck by a missile during heavy festivities between pro-government forces and Benghazi Revolutionaries Shoura Council (BRSC) battling for control of Benghazi's port.

One of the few remaining residents in Benghazi's central Sabri district told the Libya Herald that fierce fighting had erupted in the area this afternoon with further festivities at a naval base some ten kilometres away from the main seaport.

The navy ship was struck by the missile in exchanges at the base. The resident explained that naval personnel there had barricaded the roads leading towards their position as navy ships from the east sailed into port.

In response the forces of BRSC moved on the naval base with technical vehicles carrying mounted anti-aircraft guns and and one or two armoured personnel carriers. In the subsequent battle armed naval guards were able to repulse the BRSC convoy pushing it back to Suq Al-Hood.

Mohammed Hejazi, a Libyan National Army (LNA) front man, said fighting had continued in Suq Al-Hood into the evening but was beginning to subside. He too said that the fire on board the ship had been caused by a BRSC missile.

To the north of the naval base, the army deployed a number of tanks which moved from the outskirts of the Sabri district towards central Benghazi. One rocket hit the nearby Narwan Hotel which had to be evacuated by the Red Islamic Thingy because of the fierce fighting.

Sabri residents reportedly joined the fray on the side of the army. Most local gunnies came from the area's Abdul Monem and Riyad streets. The worst of the festivities took place at one of Sabri's main junctions near to where a cop shoppe was destroyed in July.

As well as evacuating the Narwan Hotel, the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy also helped move staff and patients from central Benghazi's 7 October Hospital which was also threatened by the fighting. A front man said eight intensive-care patients were evacuated and six members of medical staff, five of whom were Filipinos.

Suicide Bomber Kills 32 in Northeast Nigeria
[ABCNEWS.GO] A jacket wallah killed himself and 32 civilians Monday when he detonated explosives on the edge of a religious procession by the moderate Moslem Brüderbund in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, a hospital official and witnesses said.

The official said 119 people were maimed. He quoted hospital records in Potiskum, capital of Yobe state, and spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to give information to news hounds.

In a separate development, gunnies attacked a prison in central Kogi state and freed 145 inmates, prison chief Omale Adams told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

He said one inmate died in Sunday night's attack and 12 escapees were recaptured by late Monday.

The prison break took place in a central part of the country that sporadically has been attacked by the Islamic myrmidon Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
group, though authorities would not say that the gunnies were the prime suspects.

In Potiskum, Moslem Brüderbund members detained two suspects near the suicide bomber kaboom and refused to hand them over to the military, said Mohammed Adamu, a tailor who was part of the parade.

As the crowd began beating the suspects with fists and wooden clubs, soldiers fired several shots into the air and one bullet killed a Moslem Brüderbund member, Adamu said.

One suspect turned out to be a policeman, and the crowd finally handed both over to the police. An AP news hound saw the two badly beaten men at the hospital, along with two dozen women and kiddies injured in the blast.

It is the first attack in months in Potiskum by suspected members of Boko Haram, which follows the strict Wahabi school of Islam.

[ARABNEWS] Two people have been sentenced to 23 years in prison combined for supporting Al-Qaeda through media campaigns, funding terror organizations and inciting violence.

The first suspect was sentenced to 16 years in prison and a travel ban equal to his prison term for joining Al-Qaeda and making a film through Al-Sahab, Al-Qaeda's propaganda arm, in which he openly expresses willingness to help leaders carry out terrorist operations.

He also calls on fighters to carry out operations within the Kingdom and dissent against the government.

The second defendant was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined SR5,000 for his involvement with terror groups and for traveling to Dubai, Pakistain and Afghanistan to fight alongside terrorists.

He was also found guilty of communicating with Al-Qaeda leaders in Afghanistan and transferring funds from the Kingdom to individuals in the UAE to support fighters in Afghanistan.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh court upholds top Islamist's death sentence
[ARABNEWS] Violence broke out in Bangladesh on Monday after the country's highest court upheld the death sentence of an Islamist party leader convicted of committing war crimes, including mass murder, during the 1971 independence conflict.

The Supreme Court's rejection of Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's appeal means that he will now be hanged within months, unless the case is reviewed again or he is granted clemency by the country's president.

The 62-year-old assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
will be the second senior Islamist to hang for crimes committed during the war, which saw the former East Pakistain secede from Islamabad.

The decision triggered sporadic violence across Bangladesh.

Islamist protesters set off more than a dozen crude improvised bombs, torched and damaged cars and pelted police with rocks, who responded by firing rubber bullets and tear gas.

Jamaat called a nationwide 48-hour strike from Wednesday morning to protest against the court's decision.

The ruling came after another senior Jamaat official, Abdul Quader Molla, was executed in December after being convicted on similar charges.

In the last week, Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal -- a domestic court -- has sentenced Jamaat's supreme leader Motiur Rahman Nizami
...During the liberation war of 1971, Nizami formed the Al-Badr Force and acted as its supreme commander. The Al-Badr militia took active part in rape, extortion, looting and killing of Bangladeshis who supported the liberation, including a pre-planned massacre on December 14, 1971, when the Al-Badr militia along with Pakistan Army rounded up hundreds of doctors, professors, writers, and other Bengali intellectuals, and executed them...
and key financier Mir Quasem Ali to death.

The convictions of some of Nizami's top lieutenants last year triggered the country's deadliest political violence since independence. Tens of thousands of Jaamat activists clashed with police in protests that left some 500 people dead.

Critics say the latest flurry of judgments are designed to intimidate the opposition, which has been stepping up protests against Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina

Iraq
IS beheads 8 rebels who surrendered
[ARABNEWS] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
gunnies beheaded eight Syrian rebels who had surrendered in a town on the border with Iraq last week despite pledges of an amnesty, a monitor said Monday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the men were executed and their bodies hung on makeshift crucifixes in Albu Kamal in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

"The men surrendered in Albu Kamal because the Islamic State had offered amnesty to people who fought them if they turned themselves in," Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Instead, he said, the eight opposition fighters had their heads chopped off and then hung from crosses in a method often employed by the group.

The monitor, which relies on a large network of sources on the ground in Syria, said the men had belonged to a group that had fought against both the Syrian regime and the Islamic State.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
in the city of Deir Ezzor, the scenic provincial capital, IS gunnies decapitated another three men, also hanging their corpses from crosses, the Observatory said.

The group said it was unclear when the executions took place, adding that two of the men were accused of collaboration with the Syrian regime and the third of fighting against the Islamic State.

Syria Escalates Barrel Bomb Attacks as World Attention Shifts
[AnNahar] With global attention focused on the fight against jihadists, Syria's regime has in recent weeks stepped up its use of deadly barrel bomb strikes, killing civilians and wreaking devastation.

In less than a fortnight, warplanes have dropped at least 401 barrel bombs on rebel areas in eight provinces, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group.

Activist Yassin Abu Raed, from the town of Anadan in northern Aleppo province, has seen his house hit three times in barrel kabooms.

Army Continues Crackdown in Tripoli, Akkar amid Raids near al-Beddawi
The Lebanese army continues trying to rid the country of internal threats before they have to face the threats coming from the other side of the border.
[AnNahar] The army on Sunday conducted a major crackdown in the vicinity of the al-Beddawi Paleostinian refugee camp near Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and in other areas in the North.

Military units "carried out a major crackdown around the al-Beddawi camp in search of gunnies and runaways, while raids were made in several suspicious locations," the army said in a statement.

Army forces "staged patrols and erected checkpoints and surveillance points in all these areas," the statement added.

The army said its steps are part of the "continued security measures in the neighborhoods of the city of Tripoli and the Akkar region."

Earlier, the army detained in a raid in the town of Bhannine in the Akkar district two men involved in the recent festivities in the area and confiscated a rocket propelled grenade and military equipment.

The army command said in a communique issued late on Saturday that a "military unit carried out raids on several suspicious areas in (the northern district of) Minieh and Bhannine and tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
Toufic Mohammed Akkoush and Mohammed Ahmed Akkoush, who were involved in the shooting at soldiers in the town of Bhannine."

The statement added that a Lebanese national and two Syrians were also detained, without revealing their identities.

"An RPG and a quantity of military equipment were seized near the town's technical school," the army continued.

The suspects along with the confiscated weapons were referred to the competent judicial authority, the statement said.

Gunmen led by Islamist holy warrior Sheikh Khaled Hoblos, a previously unknown holy man, engaged in deadly festivities with the army last weekend in the town of Bhannine.

The festivities in Bhannine and al-Mhammara coincided with unprecedented fighting between the army and Islamist forces of Evil in Tripoli's old souks and Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood.

Bomb Defused near Hizbullah Ashura Gathering in Haret Saida
It's that time of year again, when Shiites beat themselves bloody in a religious ecstasy, and Sunnis gather like sharks attracted to the blood.
[AnNahar] The army on Sunday dismantled an bomb that was placed near a Ashura gathering in the predominantly Shiite Sidon suburb of Haret Saida.

"The army defused an armed bomb weighing 500 grams that was found on the Haret Saida road," state-run National News Agency reported.

Later on Sunday, the Army Command issued a statement saying "a military expert defused the bomb in Haret Saida and it was not detonated, contrary to what some media outlets reported."

"Following search and investigations, an army intelligence patrol discovered at 6:00 pm near the Sayyed al-Shohada complex in Haret Saida an bomb consisted of 500 grams of TNT, a hand grenade and an electric detonator," the statement said.

The army noted that the bomb was set for remote detonation, adding that a probe has been launched into the incident.

MTV had earlier said that the army "detonated two hand grenades that were in a bag placed near a Ashura gathering organized by Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
in Haret Saida."

Security measures have been beefed up in the country ahead of the tenth day of Ashura, which will be commemorated in mass rallies on Tuesday.

Fears have been raised over possible terrorist attacks against Ashura mourning gatherings in the wake of Hizbullah's participation in the fighting in Syria in support of the country's regime.

Unarmed members of Hizbullah and AMAL Movement have been seen near security forces checkpoints in Beirut's southern suburbs, particularly in neighborhoods where the congregations are being held.

Ashura marks the death of Imam Hussein, one of the most revered figures in Shiite Islam, over 1,300 years ago.

Millions of Shiites around the world mark Ashura, which this year climaxes on November 3, by setting up mourning tents and staging rallies.
