Israel's Channel 2 reported that Kashta was cooperating with the Sinai jihadist group.

Earlier this month, an Egyptian court designated the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's "military wing," as a terrorist organization. The crackdown on Hamas is part of a wider campaign in Egypt against the Moslem Brüderbund, Hamas's parent group.
Ynet reports Hamas' response:
Hamas: We do not have fighters outside of Palestine

Hamas' military wing said on Wednesday that it has no militants "outside of Palestine" in response to a report by Britain's Sky News that reported a Hamas commander was killed in clashes with Egyptian security forces in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

Africa Subsaharan
Boko Haram Takes on Chadian Forces in NE Nigeria Town
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
on Wednesday launched a pre-dawn raid in Gamboru, northeastern Nigeria, looking to overwhelm Chadian troops who had pushed them out of the border town.

The military in N'Djamena said the holy warriors were repelled but the counter-attack was an indication of the task facing regional forces aiming to crush the rebellion.

Troops from Chad, Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
and Niger have been deployed to fight the Islamists, whose bloody insurgency has claimed more than 13,000 lives since 2009 and now threatens Nigeria's neighbors.

Boko Haram's counter-attack on Gamboru, which has been repeatedly targeted in the past, is an established tactic from the hard boys, who have seized dozens of towns and villages since mid-2014.

"The Boko Haram elements wanted to surprise us by attacking at about 4:00 am (0300 GMT)," a military source in N'Djamena told AFP of the latest attack.

"We were aware of it from the day before and were prepared. They arrived with 14 vehicles and two armored vehicles. We repulsed them and they retreated.

"A helicopter was brought in to join the pursuit and destroy them."

One Chadian soldier and several Boko Haram fighters were killed, while eight troops were maimed, the source said.

New Deadly Violence Erupts in Central African Republic
[AnNahar] International troops clashed with ex-Seleka
...a 'mainly' Moslem rebel force in the Central African Republic that overthrew the govt, imposed a regime of rapine and looting on the country's non-Moslem population, and was then tossed by France. They still exist, getting funding and weapons from somewhere or other, licking their wounds, complaining about the oppression of Moslems, and occasionally raping and looting someone...
rebels in Central African Republic Tuesday, just a day after at least 10 villagers were killed in a new flare up of violence.

Fighting broke out in the eastern mining town of Bria when U.N. forces, backed by French soldiers, evicted the guerillas from government buildings and "were immediately countered by the hostile gang," said the United Nation's peacekeeping mission MINUSCA.

A source close to the international forces told AFP on condition of anonymity that there were several dead and injured, without elaborating. Officials have not confirmed any casualties.

"We couldn't set foot outside. There was gunfire coming from the area around the airport to the administrative buildings... The festivities were violent," a resident told AFP.

"The operation, which took place after the repeated refusal of the gang to peacefully evacuate the premises, was aimed at ending the existence of a parallel administration in Bria," said MINUSCA, which has roughly 8,600 troops.

CAR is still struggling to recover from the 2013 coup that ousted president Francois Bozize and pushed the poor and unstable country into violence pitting the country's Christian and Moslem populations against one another.

A day earlier allies of the mainly Moslem ex-Seleka rebels killed at least 10 people and injured another 10 during an attack in the northern village of Boloum, said local police, who attributed the violence to armed Peul herders.

"The attackers also burned down houses and plantations," police added.

In the past two weeks at least eight people have been killed in other attacks in Central Africa's north, some of which have been blamed on the mostly Moslem Peuls.

The Seleka rebel alliance seized power in March 2013 and in response, largely Christian communities formed "anti-balaka" -- or anti-machete -- vigilante forces who hunted down Moslems in Dire Revenge attacks.

At the end of January ex-Seleka rebels blocked a government delegation from visiting Bria for a meeting with residents on efforts at national reconciliation.

Shiite Militia Disperses Protest against Yemen 'Coup'
They're like the dog that caught the car...
[AnNahar] Shiite snuffies fired warning shots and used batons and knives Wednesday to disperse a demonstration in Yemen's capital against their power grab, leaving four protesters injured, organizers and witnesses said.

"No to Huthi, and no to the coup," hundreds of protesters who had gathered near the presidential residence in Sanaa chanted, in reference to militia leader Abdel Malek al-Huthi.

Similar protests were held elsewhere across the capital, despite a newly announced ban on unauthorized anti-Huthi demonstrations.

The militia, which is also known as Ansarullah, overran Sanaa in September and on Friday formed of a presidential council and a security committee in a move widely denounced as a coup.

In Sanaa's Change Square, the epicenter of Arab Spring protests, thousands of Huthi supporters gathered for a rival protest to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the start of the uprising that forced out strongman President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
.

Pro-Huthi women covered in black from head to toe and waved Yemeni flags at a separate demonstration at Sittin Street, near the residence of recently-resigned President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi.

Armed snuffies deployed in force across the capital searching vehicles carrying supporters in an attempt to secure their own demonstrations.

Following their takeover in Sanaa, the Huthi militia seized more territory in the Sunni-majority country this week, sparking fears of a backlash from its feared Al-Qaeda branch.

Thousands held anti-Huthi protests in several other Yemeni cities, including Baida, Ibb, Hudeidah and the main southern city of Aden.

The Arab Spring protests of 2011 had raised hopes of democratic reform after more than three decades of iron-fisted rule by Saleh.

But his departure from office the following year created a power vacuum that the Huthis and Al-Qaeda have been vying to fill.

Western governments evacuated their diplomats from Yemen on Wednesday over security fears as the conflict deepened in the impoverished Saudi neighbor.

Yemen rebels seize US vehicles as Western embassies close
[SFCHRONICLE] The United States, Britain and France moved to close their embassies in Yemen on Wednesday, increasing the isolation of Shiite rebels who have seized power. In a show of bravado against the Americans, the rebels seized the cars of U.S. diplomats left at the airport on the way out.

Bosnia tries Muslim cleric accused of recruiting for Islamic State in Syria.
[Ynet] In Sarajevo, a Bosnian Moslem holy man accused of recruiting fighters for Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Syria and Iraq went on trial on Wednesday under a new law that is designed to stop people joining snuffies in the Middle East.

Husein Bosnic, known as an unofficial leader of the ultra-conservative Salafi movement in Bosnia, was locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in September along with four other men who were later released due to a lack of evidence.

The prosecution accuses Bosnic, also known as Bilal, of publicly inciting and recruiting people to commit a terrorist act and organising a terrorist group during 2013 and 2014, "consciously and from a position of religious authority". Bosnic denies the charges against him.

His trial is the first launched under a law adopted last April which sets jail terms of up to 10 years for financing terrorist activities and recruiting and fighting abroad.

"The defendant has called on believers to take part in activities of the Islamic State at public gatherings and via YouTube," said prosecutor Dubravko Campara, adding that Bosnic's calls had inspired many Moslem Bosniaks to leave Bosnia.

"At least six people from his organization were killed while others are still fighting and therefore represent a threat for security in Bosnia once they return."

Bosnic, who has 17 children and is based in northwestern Bosnia, has received a "significant amount of money" from Arab countries, Campara added.

And in Kosovo, four ethnic Albanian Moslems pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to charges made by an international prosecutor that they belonged to a terrorist group plotting attacks and were linked to Islamic State myrmidons. A fifth, accused of assaulting two American missionaries, pleaded guilty.

The five men had been in detention since November 2013 after a sting operation by the police during which they were caught buying weapons.

France says it has dismantled 15 terrorist networks
[Ynet] La Belle France's justice minister says the government has dismantled about 15 terrorist networks as part of its wide-ranging campaign to eradicate terrorism within the country's borders.

Christiane Taubira told an open meeting of the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee on Tuesday that international action is essential to combat the increase in terrorist attacks. She said La Belle France is looking at the sophisticated propaganda, indoctrination and methods used to recruit terrorists, including social media and video games.

Turkey Detains 14 on Border Seeking to Join IS
[AnNahar] Security forces in Turkey detained 13 foreigners and a Turkish citizen attempting to cross into Syria to join the Islamic State

(IS) jihadist group, the armed forces said on Wednesday.

The army said that the group was detained on January 9 as they sought to cross the border into Syria from a village in the southeastern province of Gaziantep.

The foreigners were handed over to the police to be deported after questioning while the Turkish citizen was released, the army said in a statement on its website.

The nationalities of the foreigners were not disclosed. It appears to be the largest group of suspected forces of Evil that Turkey has said it has detained for attempting to join IS.

Turkey has been under fire from its Western partners for not doing enough to stem the flow of jihadists seeking to join Islamic State, which has captured large swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq.

But in the last weeks the Turkish authorities appear to have stepped up efforts to convince critics that Turkey is doing all it can to ensure border security.

Ankara has in turn said it is up to EU states to prevent the forces of Evil from travelling to Turkey in the first place and to better share intelligence on them.

The army said Sunday that a would-be jihadist surrendered to the Turkish army on the border with Syria, just a few days after it said it had detained four suspected IS members in the southeast of the country.

According to Turkish officials, there are about 3,000 people with links to IS forces of Evil in Turkey.

India-Pakistan
Eight activists of banned outfits detained under MPO
[DAWN] GUJRAT: Eight more activists of sectarian and banned outfits have been detained by the district administration in the Gujrat district jail for three months under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), taking the number of such detainees to 15.

A senior government official in Gujrat told Dawn on Tuesday the detentions had made to implement the National Action Plan against terrorism. A former senior vice president of Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry and seven others, mostly belonging to Kharian and Sara-e-Alamgir tehsils, are among the fresh detentions.

Official sources in the local administration and law enforcement agencies say more such detentions of the local leaders of some sectarian outfits, who have been known for delivering hate speeches against the rival sects, can be detained in the coming days as the agencies have consistently been monitoring them.

The district administration has prepared three different lists of those to be included in the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act, those who are to be detained under the MPO and of those who are acting as controllers and financers of the banned outfits in Gujrat and of those who will be booked under the ATA sections.

jacket wallahs, including a Frenchie, have detonated explosives-laden trucks in coordinated attacks on Iraqi troops and Shiite militia, destroying their targets, the jihadist group said Wednesday.

The attacks were carried out near Camp Speicher, 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of Baghdad in Salaheddin province, said claims on Twitter, seen by SITE Intelligence Group.

IS said a "gathering of the Safavid (Iraqi) army and its Rafidhi (Shiite) militias," a barracks and a headquarters, all on the road connecting "Speicher Base/Fourth Division" were hit with a truck carrying six tonnes of explosives.

Each of the kabooms resulted in the "complete destruction and elimination" of the target, it added.

Photos showed smiling young men, each with their right index finger pointing upward in a gesture referring to the unity of God.

They were named as Abul Talha al-Firansi, the Frenchie; Abu Omar al-Qatar

i, from Qatar and Abu Ukasha al-Shami, from Syria.

Others photos showed what appeared to be kabooms.

Camp Speicher, outside the city of Tikrit, was the scene of a June massacre in which nearly 1,700 soldiers died during an IS sweep in which the jihadist group seized large swathes of Iraq's north and west.

The U.S. government estimates that IS has about 20,000 fighters, some 3,400 of which are believed to be foreigners.

In January, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said a total of 73 of his countrymen had died in "terrorist operations" in Iraq and neighboring Syria.

Iraq: Clashes, attacks kill at least 22 people

Clashes between Iraqi government forces and militants along with attacks in the capital Baghdad on Wednesday killed at least 22 people and wounded dozens, officials said.

Heavy clashes erupted in three separate areas outside the city of Tikrit, which is controlled by the Islamic State extremist group, killing 12 security forces, Shiite militiamen and civilians, and wounding 37 others, a police official said. He added that three suicide truck bombers attacked the security forces during the clashes.

Militants claimed responsibility for three suicide attacks in a statement posted on a Twitter account frequently used by the extremist group. It said the attacks were carried out by French, Syrian and Qatari fighters, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors militant forums.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli Navy stops Gaza-bound boat with rocket manufacturing material
[Ynet] Forces trap boat with ton's worth of materials for rocket-making intended for Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, in Gazoo; operation captured on camera and cleared for publication Wednesday night.
Video can be seen at the link. Enjoy!
Israeli Navy forces trapped a boat three weeks ago with shipment of a ton's worth of materials for rocket manufacturing, intended for Hamas in Gazoo. The operation was captured on camera and was cleared for publication on Wednesday night.

The operation was manned by the 916th Company, based in Ashdod, which is charged with protecting Israel's southern shores. "Thwarting smuggling attempts like this happens almost every week," Lt. Col. Liav Zilberman ‐ whose unit was awarded a citation for its performance in Operation Protective Edge ‐ told Ynet..

"The Egyptians are doing great work on land against the smuggling tunnels, making the sea the endless tunnel for Hamas," he said.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of January 19th, when naval forces identified the suspicious boat making its way from the shores of Sinai to the Strip's shores. Before it arrives at the Gazook beach, the navy soldiers called on three Paleostinians aboard the ship to stop.

A search by the soldiers discovered liquid fiberglass on the vessel. The three Paleostinians were taken in for investigation by the Shin Bet, where they admitted the materials were meant for rocket and mortar manufacture in Gazoo.

They said they were sent to collect the materials from Sinai and deliver it to Hamas' military wing in a timely manner. An indictment was filed against the three at a courthouse in Be'er Sheva.

Lt. Col. Zilberman said that the preparation to seize the vessel did not occur overnight. "The Dvora-class ships and our Shaldag-class knew to seize the vessel quietly and discreetly. After following it for hours, patiently, from the moment it crossed the southern border," he said.

He said the smugglers knew to hide the materials under their fishing gear. "Hamas is making a massive effort to rebuild, and most of the smuggling vessels which we thwarted were sunk from afar when we knew they had weapons on them."

Since Protective Edge, several similar incidents occurred, in which the naval forces stopped smuggling operations from Sinai, with most involving fishing vessels.

At the IDF, officials believe that because of the destruction or damage to the hundreds of smuggling tunnels in Sinai's Rafah by the Egyptian military in the past year, Hamas has been trying to develop other paths.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
dozens of such tunnels remain under Rafah, though the Egyptian military has expanded its 'perimeter' around the Strip, leveling homes on the border up to a kilometer away from the fence.
The Times of Israel adds:
They also supplied information regarding the maritime smuggling route between Sinai and the Gazoo Strip, and Hamas' use of fishermen and smugglers for its purposes.

The interrogations also shed light on Hamas economic tactics. According to a statement from the Shin Bet, the men claimed the terror group also smuggled civilian products, which it then sold at a profit to Gazoo residents, using the earnings to fund its activities.

The three suspects were charged with a number of security offenses Thursday in the Beersheba District Court.

#10  With the, uhem, success of Yemen, I'm a bit concerned that the sudden rule of law Congressional War Approval has an ominous unavoidable event on the near horizion; time to redistribute the blame.

And since everything is domestic politics with TFG, I'm starting to pen in that these overseas contengency plans of strategic wanking are political bones to throw at political hawks and AAA potential political pitchers.

BTW, anyone else puzzled by the rather let'em go attitude of the Yemeni rebels concerning foreign personelle after so many years of promising dire revenge? Or why our persons were still there after a month of game over?

Hizbullah in Syria Fighting Close to Israeli Lines
[AnNahar] Hizbullah

, Syrian regime forces and Iranian officers fighting rebels in southern Syria have advanced to the edge of Israeli-occupied territory, a monitor and state media said Wednesday.
...putting Israel in the uncomfortable position of wondering which would be worse: Hizb'allah troops one day attempting to pour over the border to kidnap, kill, and destroy, or ISIS troops doing the same, a question which has no doubt occupied Israeli planners for months.
"Regime troops and their Hizbullah-led allies are advancing in the area linking Daraa, Quneitra and Damascus provinces," close to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The operation launched by the Syrian army is being fought in cooperation with... Hizbullah and Iran," a Syrian army officer told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
.

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP: "It's Hizbullah that is leading the attack on the southern front."

On January 18, six Hizbullah fighters and an Iranian general were killed in an Israeli air strike in Quneitra.

According to the Observatory, which estimates 5,000 Hizbullah fighters are deployed in Syria, pro-regime forces on Wednesday seized the village of Deir Maker in the west of Damascus province, near Quneitra.

The advance comes a day after they pushed rebels out of Deir al-Adas village and the surrounding hills.

The Observatory said the battle for Deir al-Adas, which had been out of regime control since January last year, killed 20 rebels.

The latest reports come four days after the Lebanese group and the Syrian army launched an offensive to reclaim swathes of territory held by the rebels in the south.

Nine regime troops have been killed in the fighting since Monday, the Observatory said.

Syria's state SANA news agency meanwhile reported "advances as part of a vast operation by the army and gangs".

The assault near the armistice line on the Golan is aimed at "breaking the stretch of territory that they (rebels) are trying to establish" at the border, a Syrian security source said.

[Ynet] The United States and its coalition partners launched four air strikes against Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
targets in Syria, and six more in Iraq against the Lion of Islam group, the US military said on Wednesday.

Among the Syria strikes, which occurred between 8am local time Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday, were two near Kobani that hit two Islamic State fighting positions, a tactical unit and a checkpoint, the Combined Joint Task Force said in a statement.

In Iraq, air strikes hit near Baiji, Kirkuk,

and Falluja, striking tactical units, vehicles and a heavy machine gun, the task force said.
