Egyptian airstrikes kill 64 IS militants in Libya: Libyan army spokesperson
[Al Ahram] Egyptian Arclight airstrikes killed 64 Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) murderous Moslems, including three of their leaders, in Libya's coastal cities of Derna and Sirte, Libyan army spokesperson Major Mohammed Hegazy told Ahram Arabic news website on Monday afternoon.

In the early hours of Monday, the Egyptian army, in coordination with the Libyan army, carried out air strikes against IS targets in Libya, he said.

The attacks followed the publication on Sunday of a graphic video allegedly showing IS bully boyz beheading Egyptian Coptic Christians they had previously kidnapped.

Hegazy denied allegations that the Arclight airstrikes had incurred civilian casualties.

"Media outlets working for IS promote the notion of civilians being targeted in order to spark chaos and fear, and garner sympathy for members of the organization," he said.

Egypt launches second wave of airstrikes on ISIS in Libya
[CNN] Egyptian warplanes staged a second wave of Arclight airstrikes against ISIS targets in Libya on Monday in retaliation for the slaughter of 21 Egyptian Christians by ISIS turbans, Egypt's state-run Ahram Online reported, citing security officials.

The Arclight airstrikes followed an earlier wave that struck ISIS camps, training areas and weapons depots, the military said in a statement.

"Avenging Egyptian blood and punishing criminals and murderers is our right and duty," the Egyptian military said in the statement, which was broadcast on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the Arclight airstrikes targeted ISIS locations in Derna.

"Leaving the situation as it is in Libya without a firm intervention to curtail these terrorist organizations would be a threat to international peace and security," the ministry said.

It wasn't immediately clear how much damage and casualties the Arclight airstrikes might have caused.

The bombing raids came after ISIS released a gruesome video Sunday that appeared to show ISIS Death Eaters beheading men they said were Christians on a beach.

Egypt launches air strikes against IS militias in Libya
Golly, that leading from behind stuff really works! First Jordan took off with blood in their collective eye after ISIS in Iraq and Syria, now Egypt is stepping up in Libya. At this rate, Israel will take care of their little Iranian nuke problem, and then President Obama will be free to play golf and watch March Madness in peace.
[Ahram] Air strikes come hours after the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
militias in Libya aired graphic videos of the beheading of 21 Egyptian Copts

The Egyptian army announced in a statement on Monday morning it has conducted air strikes against Islamic State militias' targets in Libya, including training camps and arms depots.
It sounds like Egypt had somehow inquired excellent targeting coordinates...
So perhaps Egypt needs those Rafales after all...
On Sunday night, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said Egypt reserves the right to retaliate against the killing of 21 Egyptian Copts by the radical Islamic State (IS) group in Libya at the suitable time and place.

Islamic State militias had published earlier on Sunday a graphic video on the Internet purportedly showing the beheading of Coptic Christians it said it had kidnapped recently, and vowing to fight what it described as "crusaders."

The statement said the Arclight airstrikes were successful in reaching their targets and that the Egyptian fighter jets returned safely to their home bases in Egypt.
Well done, guys!
Egyptian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
aired footage of jets taking off from bases in Egypt at the begining of the operation.

"We believe that avenging the blood of Egyptian, and extracting retribution from the killers and criminals is a duty we have to carry out," the army statement said.
Note that the Egyptian blood in this case is Coptic, not Muslim. This is even more impressive than when President El-Sisi celebrated Christmas at a Coptic church, also a first.
Libya's Air Force Chief of Staff Saqr Al-Geroushi told Al-Arabiya TV Channel on Monday morning that the Egyptian air strikes took place in coordination with the Libyan Army.
Noted.
"Our planes joined in the attack on the terrorist hideouts...and Egypt and Libya's war is one and the same," Al-Geroushi added.

In another interview, Al-Geroushi told Egyptian TV channel Al-Nahar that the Egyptian air strikes succeeded in destroying a training camp, weaponry, and a house that contained anti-aircraft missiles belonging to the Islamic State.
They're called spotters, I think. Nice shooting, guys!
He called on Egypt to continue its offensive along with the Libyan Army until Libya is free.

In a televised speech on Sunday night, El-Sisi said he ordered the Egyptian government to provide full support to the families of the victims, and tighten a ban Egyptians' travel to its western neighbor.

He also said he issued directives to the government to take necessary steps in order to secure and facilitate the return of Egyptians trying to leave Libya.

El-Sisi added he commissioned Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri to travel to New York in order to hold talks with senior United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
officials and members of the Security Council.
Definitely lots of leading from behind going on. As 'tis said, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way," and our beloved president is doing that in spades.
The minister, El-Sisi said, would "demand the international community live up to its responsibilities by taking necessary actions in line with the UN convention, and to declare that what is happening in Libya threatens international peace and security."
The Times of Israel adds this:
A commander in the Libyan air force, Saqer al-Joroushi, told Egyptian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
that dozens of Death Eaters had been killed in the bombing attacks, Rooters reported.

"There are casualties among the individuals, ammunition and the communication centers belonging to them," al-said. "The number of deaths are not less than 40 or 50 for sure."
And from An Nahar:
Witnesses told AFP there were at least seven air strikes in Derna in the east, a hotbed of militancy since Libyan dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later...
was tossed in 2011. It was not immediately clear whether other areas were also hit.

St James Infirmary in Tripoli closes due to worsening security situation
[Libya Herald] St James, the private sector Maltese clinic in the Ben Ashour district of Tripoli, has closed down indefinitely due to the worsening security situation in Libya.
I went down to St. James Infirmary,
The chief executive of the St James group, Josie Muscat, told Malta Today that they were ordered by the Maltese government to cease operations. St James had only one remaining Maltese citizen in Libya.
Saw my baby there,
Muscat lamented the fact that his company had taken out some loans in order to expand its operations in Libya.
Stretched out on a long white table,
The St James closure comes at a time when the Italian embassy finally succumbed to the seriously deteriorating situation in Libya by closing its Tripoli embassy down.
So cold, so sweet, so fair.
Today, Maltaâ€'s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had called for military UN intervention in Libya so as to prevent it from becoming a "€™failed state." He had also called upon any remaining "obstinate"€™ Maltese citizens remaining in Libya to return home.
Let her go, let her go, God bless her,
It will be recalled that Malta had shut down its embassy back in November 2014 and the consulate in August.
Wherever she may be,
She can look this wide world over,
But she'll never find a sweet man like me.

Algeria Army Kills Heavily Armed Islamist
[AnNahar] Algerian soldiers have rubbed out a heavily armed Islamist in the Tebessa region on the northeastern border with Tunisia, the defense ministry said Sunday.

"As part of the fight against terrorism, an army detachment in Tebessa shot down... a terrorist" near the area of Ain Mdila on Saturday, the ministry said in a statement carried by the national news agency APS.

A Kalashnikov assault rifle and a large quantity of ammunition and explosives were seized during the operation, it added.

Violence involving armed Islamists in Algeria has fallen considerably since the civil war of the 1990s, but groups linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb still carry out attacks in the northeast, mostly on security forces.

The Algerian army says more than 100 armed Islamists were killed in 2014.

Gunmen kill policeman in Nile Delta
Egypt’s state news agency says gunmen opened fire on a traffic police patrol in the Nile Delta town of Benha, killing one policeman and wounding three others.

MENA said the gunmen fired on police from a flyover early Sunday before fleeing, adding that a police car was damaged. It said an investigation has been launched to determine the identity of the attackers.

Egyptian security forces increasingly have come under attack since the 2013 ouster of President Mohammed Mursi and the fierce crackdown on his supporters. Many of the deadliest attacks have been claimed by a Sinai-based organization that has pledged allegiance to Daesh group, and by another group calling itself Ajnad Misr, or Soldiers of Egypt.

Egypt finds longest Gaza smuggling tunnel
Ay-Pee
Egyptian security officials say they have found a 2.5-kilometer (1.5-mile) smuggling tunnel leading into the Gaza Strip, the longest such passageway discovered in their crackdown on cross-border smuggling.
that's a loooong tunnel. Better widen the buffer zone to 5 miles
At the rate the Gazans are digging, Egypt will give the Sinai back to Israel without demanding compensation...
They say the tunnel was operated by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, which Egypt says is a terrorist organization that played a role in recent attacks against Egyptian security forces.
"No, no, not us"
Detonators and communications devices were among the devices found in the tunnel, which will be destroyed, officials say, speaking on condition of anonymity because they aren't authorized to brief reporters.

After a major attack in October, the Egyptian military began clearing a buffer zone along the border with Gaza in an attempt to stamp out a cross-border network of tunnels that Hamas considers a lifeline.

in southern Niger since the start of cross-border attacks by the Islamist group a week ago, a local governor said.

"In the region of Zinder, we have a few dozen people whom we arrested for checking. They are suspects," Kalla Moutari told AFP in an interview late Saturday, adding that they were citizens of Niger.

The suspects were sent to an "anti-terrorist unit" in the capital Niamey, Moutari said.

Boko Haram launched a series of cross-border attacks in Niger's remote Diffa area on February 6.

The region is across the border from northeastern Nigeria, the Boko Haram stronghold.

The suspects were arrested at checkpoints on access roads into Zinder, Niger's second largest city some 400 kilometers (250 miles) west of Diffa, the governor said.

He said some 10,000 people had fled the violence in Diffa to Zinder, and that the checkpoints allowed authorities "to intercept those who had infiltrated the displaced people."

Europe
Hundreds of tombs defaced in French Jewish cemetery
Sarre-Union, France -- France's interior minister said Sunday several hundred tombs had been defaced at a Jewish cemetery in the northeast of the country, in what he called "a despicable act".
Betcha it wasn't done by Lutherans.
"The country will not tolerate this new injury which goes against the values that all French people share," said Bernard Cazeneuve of the incident in the town of Sarre-Union in the Alsace region.
Unfortunately, the 'country' doesn't seem to be too agitated about it.
"Every effort will be made to identify, question and bring to justice the person or persons responsible for this despicable act," he added.

Police had cordoned off the isolated cemetery late Sunday as crime scene investigators were sent from Strasbourg to the site, an AFP correspondent reported.

"Around 300 tombs have been defaced," said a source close to the investigation, adding that there had been no reports of anything written on the tombstones.

The region's police and prosecutor came to the cemetery Sunday evening as well the chief rabbi of Strasbourg, Rene Gutman.

"It's an image of desolation," president of the Alsace region Philippe Richert told AFP, describing how Jewish steles, stone or wooden slabs often used for commemorative purposes, were knocked down and even some slabs at the gravesites had been lifted.

"One doesn't knock over heavy steles like that dating from the 19th century very easily. it was a deliberate act of destruction," he said.

French President Francois Hollande called the desecration an "odious and barbaric act" while Prime Minister Manuel Valls, writing on Twitter, described it as "anti-Semitic and ignoble".

It is not the first time that a Jewish cemetery in Sarre-Union has been targeted. In 1988, around 60 Jewish steles were knocked over, and 54 tombs were wrecked in 2001.

"I am fed up of all these anti-Semitic acts, in their different forms that we saw on January 9 in France, yesterday in Copenhagen and today in Alsace," said Roger Cukierman, president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France. Such "cowardly acts" showed a "lack of moral and ethical values" and was an illustration of a failure of France's national education system, he added.

Shopkeeper killed in 'sectarian' attack
[DAWN] A shopkeeper was shot dead in Orangi Town on Saturday morning in a targeted attack that the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen believed was carried out on sectarian grounds.

Syed Irfan Ali, 32, was at his photostat shop in Sector-11 near the weekly Tuesday bazaar at 10:30am when three suspects riding two motorcycles pulled up there and killed him, said Mominabad SHO Sabir Khan.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“It appeared to be a targeted killing incident,” said the police officer. He added that the victim had no known affiliation with any religious party.

A spokesperson for the MWM, however, said the deceased was their supporter and it was a ‘sectarian killing’.

Cyber crime suspects wanted by FBI, Interpol held
[DAWN] Pak officials on Saturday tossed in the slammer
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
two men wanted for cyber crimes by Interpol and the FBI for allegedly defrauding several companies and individuals of over $50 million.

Mir Mazhar Jabbar, a bigwig with Federal Investigation Agency, told AFP his team had arrested Noor Aziz and Farhan Arshad in Bloody Karachi

"They were on the most wanted list of the FBI and we have... arrested them," Mr Jabbar said. The FIA personnel also arrested three others who are all part of the same extended family, he added.

The FBI on its website said that 'Arshad and Uddin' were wanted for their alleged involvement in an international communication scheme and hacking venture that defrauded individuals, telecom companies and government entities in the United States and elsewhere in the world.

They cost their targets more than 50 million dollars.

Arshad and Uddin gained access to business telephones systems and used the systems to place long distance telephone calls to premium rate numbers as part of a scheme known as international revenue share fraud, according to the US agency.

"Arshad and Uddin are part of an international criminal ring that the FBI believes extends into Pakistain, Philippines, Soddy Arabia

The FBI ‐ which had the pair on their "cyber most wanted" list ‐ had also offered a reward of up to $50,000 each for information that led to their arrest.

Mastermind of Shikarpur carnage killed in Quetta
[DAWN] Security forces on Sunday claimed to have killed a senior commander of banned Death Eater outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
‐ Usman Saifullah ‐ who they said was believed to be the criminal mastermind of the devastating Shikarpur imambargah attack which killed 61 people this month.

A security official who declined to be named owing to the sensitivity of the matter told Dawn.com that the Frontier Corps, accompanied by personnel of intelligence agencies, conducted a raid at a hotel near Gahi Khan Chowk area of Sariab road in Quetta.

"The Death Eaters hiding inside the hotel retaliated and an exchange of fire took place between the Death Eaters and security officials which left two Death Eaters dead -- including [LJ commander] Usman Saifullah."

The security official said the dead commander was involved in assassinations of Hazara community members, and was believed to be the criminal mastermind of recent bombing in Shikarpur.

Five security personnel also sustained bullet wounds during the exchange of fire. The security official described the condition of two injured FC personnel as serious. He further said that one Death Eater was also taken into custody by security forces during the targeted raid.

Saifullah was a wanted terrorist who had beat feet from the Anti-Terrorist Force Jail in Quetta Cantonment in 2008. He was implicated in multiple cases involving murder, especially of Shia Hazaras. The Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
Home Department had announced Rs2.5 million head bounty for his capture.

Intelligence sources also said the commander had close contacts to both al Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban.

After the raid, security was beefed up in different parts of Quetta in anticipation of blowback from the killing of the LJ commander.

The raid today is part of larger security efforts being made in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan following the Army Public School attack in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
on December 16, 2014.

Earlier, intelligence agencies and officials investigating the Shikarpur imambargah attack had identified a Death Eater group operating in the Sindh and Balochistan border areas as those behind the deadly attack.

Based on the initial findings of the police investigation, the chief of the counter-terror unit of the crime investigation department, Raja Umer Khattab, had also hinted that the bombing in Shikarpur could be the handiwork of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi rather than Jundullah, whose spokesperson had grabbed credit for the attack.

Shikarpur is near the vast border area of Balochistan that lacks any significant security checks, a CID officer had stated.

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, the banned outfit blamed for deadly attacks on Shias and Hazaras, allegedly has forged ties with Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in a murderous campaign to wage sectarian warfare.

Since its inception in 1996, the faction has claimed to have killed thousands of Shias in bombings and shootings across Pakistain.

in central Iraq in an operation on Sunday, according to an Iraqi security source.

"A group from the Regiment Special Assignments was able to arrest Baghdadi's uncle, named Saleh Ibrahim Abdulmomen and niece's husband Dhiya Nouri Sadoun," a source from the southern Dhi Qar governorate's police stated, according to the Saudi news source al-Arabiya.

"The detainees are among the top level of ISIS commanders in Samarra," the security source added.

The reported raid occurred in the city of Samarra, Baghdadi's hometown, 125 kilometers (78 miles) from the Iraqi capital.

Baghdadi, who came from humble origins, became the leader of the krazed killer group in 2010 and is currently one of the world's most desperados, as the United States has placed a $10 million bounty on his head.

The Islamic State is being targeted in a large-scale, international military campaign seeking to halt the Sunni krazed killer group's advance in the region.

The US-led coalition targeted 13 Islamic State positions in Iraq and Syria on Saturday, striking buildings, troop formations, a rocket system and site where improvised explosives were made, according to a statement by the Combined Joint Task Force.

Last week, a Jordanian air force general claimed that over 7,000 Islamic State fighters have been killed by coalition forces.

Peshmerga to exchange prisoners with ISIL
Baghdad -- Recent ISIL video of caged Peshmerga being paraded through a militant-held village has ramped up efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government to negotiate prisoner exchanges.

Kurdish parliamentarian Dler Mawati, who serves as deputy chief of the Committee of Peshmerga Martyrs and Genocide Sacrifices Affairs, said an estimated 50 Peshmerga have been captured by ISIL with a larger number taken prisoner by Kurdish forces.

Malawati said the Kurdistan Regional Government is ready to free those Peshmarga in ISIL captivity by exchanging hostages with the militants.

“We intensified our attempts to free the hostages when ISIL showed the Peshmerga in caged procession on the streets of Hawijja. We now have two options: either to pay money to free our hostages or by exchanging ISIL hostages,” he said.

Mawati added that the Kurdistan Regional Government is ready to even exchange by ISIL captives taken in Kobane.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Jordan Sentences Senior Brotherhood Leader to 18 Months
[AnNahar] A Jordanian court Sunday sentenced a big shot of the Moslem Brüderbund to 18 months in prison for criticizing a decision by the United Arab Emirates to blacklist his organization.
More precisely, that was the list of terrorist groups which also included America's own CAIR, equally displeased about that unexpected turn of events.
The state security court in Amman found Zaki Bani Rsheid, the deputy head of the Brotherhood in Jordan, guilty of making statements "likely to damage relations between the kingdom and a foreign country".

Rsheid, 57, made no comment after the verdict but his lawyer Saleh al-Armuti said he planned to appeal.

Rsheid was tossed in the slammer
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
in November after he criticized the UAE for blacklisting more than 80 Islamist groups including the Brotherhood.

In comments published on his Facebook page, Rsheid described the UAE as "the prime godfather of terrorism" and accused the energy-rich Gulf state of serving U.S. and Israeli interests in the region.

Jordan is a close ally of the UAE and both are part of the U.S.-led campaign against the Islamic State

group that controls swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.

Organizations blacklisted by the UAE include Al-Qaeda, IS, Yemen's Shiite Huthi militia and the Moslem Brüderbund -- which was formed in Egypt in 1928 and has branches across the region.

The Jordanian branch of the Moslem Brüderbund is the main opposition force in the kingdom and has wide grassroots support.

Southeast Asia
Two Al-Qaida-Linked Militants Killed in Philippine Clash
[AnNahar] Two members of an Al-Qaeda-linked group were killed in festivities with troops in the southern Philippines on Sunday, a military spokeswoman said.

Three soldiers and two Lions of Islam were maimed in the fighting that erupted before dawn in the jungles of Basilan
...Basilan is a rugged, jungle-covered island in the southern Philippines. It is a known stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf, bandidos, and maybe even orcs. Most people with any sense travel with armed escorts...
island, Captain Rowena Muyuela told AFP.

Sunday's encounter was part of continuing offensives to dislodge Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
Death Eaters from the island, she said.

The Abu Sayyaf, set up with seed money from Al-Qaeda in the early 1990s, has been blamed for many of the deadliest krazed killer attacks in the Philippines, including the 2004 Molotov cocktailing of a ferry on Manila Bay that claimed more than 100 lives.

The group, mainly based in Moslem-populated areas of the south, has also been involved in high-profile kidnappings of foreign tourists and Christian missionaries.

In a separate operation elsewhere in the south, 44 police commandos were killed in festivities with other Moslem guerrilla groups last month. They were on a mission to catch two top krazed killers, Malaysian Zulkifli bin Hir and Filipino Abdul Basit Usman.

The FBI has said DNA analysis indicates Zulkifli was probably killed. Usman escaped.

Syrian opposition claims capture of female Russian soldier
[IsraelTimes] 'There is no longer a Syrian army, only Iran-backed militias,' says rebel commander

For the first time since the eruption of the Syrian revolution almost four years ago, opposition forces have captured a female Russian soldier suspected of operating missile systems recently sent from Moscow to the Assad regime, a Saudi daily reported on Sunday.

According to Al-Watan, the Russian soldier was captured by the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
in the southern front, which has witnessed heavy fighting in recent days between rebel groups and Assad forces backed by Iran and Lebanese terror group Hezbollah. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based watchdog, reported last week that 5,000 Iranian and Hezbollah fighters have been deployed to the Quneitra and Daraa provinces, near the border with Israel.

The Syrian rebels have also managed to capture a senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards officer among a group of 40 pro-Assad fighters locked away
Please don't kill me!
in recent days. Al-Watan reported that the identity of the men will be exposed within days in order to prove "the involvement of Iran, Hezbollah and Russia in the fighting alongside the Assad regime in Syria."

On Saturday, a Syrian opposition group, the al-Furqan Brigades, published footage of an Iranian officer killed in battle. Opposition news website Zaman al-Wasl identified the man as Haj Abbas Abdullahi, one of Iran's most decorated snipers and a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.

In an interview with the website on Sunday, Muhammad al-Khatib, commander of the al-Furqan Brigades, estimated that 80% of the fighters combating his forces are "Shiite mercenaries" from countries as far as Pakistain and Afghanistan, assembled under a unit called "the Fatimids Brigade."

"There is no longer a thing called the Syrian Army," Khatib told Zaman al-Wasl. "We are fighting militias from across the world under Iranian command."
Goodness. He does seem to feel strongly about it.

'100 Killed' in Week of Clashes in South Syria
[AnNahar] Nearly 100 fighters on both sides have been killed in a week of fighting in southern Syria between regime forces and rebels, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Saturday.

The army, backed by fighters from Leb's Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
, began an offensive at the beginning of the week in Daraa, the province bordering Israel that was the cradle of the revolt against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
.

Regime forces had indicated that the operation was aimed at "breaking the band of territory (the rebels) are trying to create" along the border.

At least 50 rebels were killed and 43 soldiers, members of Hizbullah, Iran's Revolutionary Guards and Syrian pro-regime militia, according to the Britannia-based monitor, which has a network of civilian, medical and military sources across Syria.

The Observatory also said 10 soldiers had been executed after being accused of collaborating with rebels in Daraa by giving them information about military movements.

"Hizbullah doesn't have a lot of confidence in the Syrian army because there have been several cases of soldiers giving the rebels information," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told Agence La Belle France-Presse.

His group said Hizbullah, which is reported to have some 5,000 fighters in Syria, is leading the regime offensive in the south.

The rebels and their al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
Front jihadist allies have been making advances in southern provinces that are strategic because of their proximity to Damascus, Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Since the start of October 2013, rebel forces have controlled a band of territory in the sector along the border with Jordan.

Report: Hizbullah Hindering Leb Security Forces' Access to Some Bekaa Regions
[AnNahar] Security forces have so far failed to arrest any major runaways, three days into the adoption of a state-approved security plan in the eastern Bekaa region, reported the Saudi daily Okaz on Sunday.

It revealed that Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
has prevented the security forces from entering the outskirts of some towns in the area because the party has "transformed them into military zones."

These zones also include training camps.

Later on Sunday, the army issued a statement announcing that it had jugged
Please don't kill me!
during its operations on Saturday 33 suspects, confiscated nine cars and 26 cycle of violences, and seized a number of drugs, military equipment, and light weapons.

The latest arrests bring the total number of detainees to at least 90 since the security plan kicked off on Thursday.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards executes 12 Assad’s forces elements
[IraqiNews.com] According to Syrian sources from Daraa, 12 military elements of the Syrian Army, mostly officers, have been executed for treason, because of their communication with the Syrian rebels.

The execution came after the arrival of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani to Daraa to supervise the battles and replace the old Army leadership, which was accused of collaboration with the rebels, while the opposition leader had vowed to wage wars against the regime forces and Hezbollah, which began a major offensive against the rebels in the border area near Israel and Jordan.

The opposition alliance leader said earlier that the battle against the regime would last longer and and the regime would incur substantial losses.

Islamic State abduct hundreds civilians north Syria
[ARA] Over the past five days, the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) abducted more than 200 civilians in the cities of al-Bab and Manbij, in the western countryside of Aleppo, in northern Syria, military sources reported.

Among the abductees were Kurds as well as Arabs.

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, Ahmed Hisso, the spokesman of al-Akrad Front brigade (linked to the Free Syrian Army “FSA”) confirmed the IS kidnapping of about 250 civilians from the countryside of Manbij, and 100 civilians from al-Bab countryside, including women and children.

“There were lawyers, doctors, and school teachers among the abductees,” Hisso said, adding that some of them are identified as members of Shekho and Batran families.

“The reasons behind the abductions are intelligence reports made by supporters of the group in the area, fearing the advancement by the Kurdish forces,” said Hisso.

“Also, IS fears that locals provide confidential information about the group to the Kurdish forces, and to avenge the death of hundreds of members in Kobane’s battles.”

Hisso also pointed out that the abductions carried out by the radicals aim to terrorize civilians and eliminate all forms of locals’ sympathy towards the Kurdish fighters and FSA rebels.

ISIS Set to Execute Kurdish Fighters
The Islamic State is set to execute at least 17 Kurdish fighters in a similar brutal manner as it killed Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kaseasbeh -- burning them alive in a cage.
Which should set the penalty for anyone belonging to the IS as the auto-da-fe.
In a new video released on ISIS-affiliated Twitter accounts, the Peshmerga fighters are seen in the characteristic orange jumpsuits being paraded around the Iraqi town of Kirkuk while in their cages, an uncanny reminder of the grisly video showing the execution of Kaseasbeh, in which he was put inside a cage and then set on fire.

The new four-minute video suggests a similar fate for the Peshmerga fighters, in what is seen as a retaliation to the Kurdish offensive against the terror group that has led to the death of several of its fighters.

The burning alive of the Kurdish fighters is a possible Dire Revenge tactic by ISIS after reports of Kurdish forces dragging bodies of the jihadists through streets in the Kurdistan region of Iraq emerged, according to The Daily Mail.

The stills from the disturbing video were shared on Twitter, showing the fighters being jeered at in their cages by a crowd as they are paraded by their ISIS captors.

Rudaw English, a Kurdish online newspaper also shared the pictures on its Twitter account.

had also burned alive three Iraqi civilians following the burning video of Kaseasbeh, indicating that the terror group will resort to more such shocking executions, after having executed several hostages by beheading in the past months.
