[LibyaHerald] Three men, accused of being homosexual, are reported to have been executed by the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (IS) in Derna yesterday.
They were shot in the head at the town's main Ateeq Mosque following afternoon (Asr) prayers. They were reportedly seized some months go.
The three have been named as Naseeb Al-Jazwi, Faraj Al-Shewi and Saad al Fahakhri. .
Following the creation of a Sharia Court in Derna last year, IS has imposed rigid Sharia law in the town. There have been public beheadings, people have been lashed for drinking alcohol, and a fortnight ago, a man accused of stealing gold had his hand cut off.
Its rigid interpretation of Islam in the town, has also included a ban on smoking and strict gender segregation similar to that imposed in Afghanistan during the Taliban era.
However, some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... many see in its imposition of such action, a reign of terror designed to maintain its rule in the town.
In November 2012, 12 men said to be homosexuals, were tossed in the clink Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw! by the Islamist Nawasi Brigade in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... at a transvestite party. They were supposedly released a few days later by this was then denied. They have not been heard of since.

[LibyaHerald] Clashes took place this evening in an area called Abu Sera between Zawia and the Warshfana area between forces linked to the Libyan National Army (LNA) and those of Libya Dawn ...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar... .
There are also unconfirmed reports that LNA support forces (Zintanis and Warshefanis) are gathering east of Zawia to blockade it from that direction, as well as from the south. Eyewitness have told the Libya Herald that they have seen LNA forces at Sayed (west of Janzour) with no resistance being offered from Libya Dawn. As for the 27 Bridge, witness said the highway is still open.
There is a growing nervousness in Zawia at the Warshefana advance with locals accusing Misrata of having abandoned them. Most of the accusations are targeted at Misrata's Halboos Brigade which agreed a truce with the Warshefana and pulled out its fighters from the area. In particular they accuse Fathi Bashagha and Ali Dabeba, leaders of the brigade.
Bashagha also leads the Misratan delegation to the UNSMIL brokered Dialogue process.
Meanwhile today, it was reported that yet another Dawn attempt to seize Wattiya Airbase had been repulsed by LNA support forces.
[AnNahar] Dozens of gunnies stormed a northern Mali town, killing one and taking six other people hostage in an attack blamed on Tuareg rebels, officials told AFP Friday.
"More than 50 gunnies from the Coordination for the Movements of Azawad (CMA) came Thursday to sow terror in Bintagoungou. They killed a man and took six hostages with them," said Hama Aboubacrine, mayor of the town about 90 kilometers to the west of Timbuktu.
"Everyone knows each other here. (The attackers) had a CMA flag," added the mayor.
The gunnies also pillaged several shops and a pharmacy, and made off with two vehicles.
A Bintagoungou resident also told AFP that his father was one of the six who were taken hostage.
CMA officials were not immediately available for comment on Friday, but a U.N. peacekeeping source in Mali also confirmed the attack.
The recent violence comes amid assurances by the CMA that it was committed to a peace accord brokered by Algeria and due to be ratified at a ceremony in Bamako on May 15.
[AnNahar] Niger authorities have urged people living on islands in Lake Chad to leave to avoid new attacks by Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... , after an assault by the Islamists last weekend left at least 74 dead.
The weekend attack was the country's heaviest loss since it joined a regional offensive against the Lion of Islams, and saw authorities declare three days of mourning from Wednesday.
"The governor of Diffa invites people living on the islands in Lake Chad to rejoin the mainland," a statement Thursday said, citing security reasons.
"Measures will be taken to ensure their safety and resettlement," the statement added.
Diffa is the bustling provincial capital of south-eastern Niger, which borders north-eastern Nigeria, considered the jihadists' stronghold.
Niger has several islands in Lake Chad, a vast body of water between it, Nigeria, Cameroon ...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there... and Chad, the regular site of deadly Boko Haram raids.
Niger lost at least 46 soldiers and 28 civilians in the Boko Haram attack on the island of Karamga Saturday.
Interior Minister Hassoumi Massaoudou said Wednesday that "156 terrorists" were also killed in the assault on an army base on the island, and that 32 troops were missing.
He said Niger had since retaken control of Karamga.
Niger, along with Chad, Cameroon and Nigeria, has recently launched a joint offensive to end Boko Haram's six-year insurgency, which has claimed 13,000 lives and caused about 1.5 million people to flee their homes.

They were instead claimed by the "Shabwa Province" militia that has declared itself as a division of IS, a Sunni Lion of Islam group that has overrun swathes of Iraq and Syria.
Shabwa was the scene of fierce fighting Thursday between loyalists of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and Huthi Iranian catspaws, who have captured the capital Sanaa and advanced on his southern stronghold of Aden.

[Dawn] LANDI KOTAL: Five soldiers, a captain among them, and 27 forces of Evil were killed in festivities in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency on Thursday.
According to security sources, soldiers were entering bad boys' strongholds when an intense ground battle took place. They identified the officer who lost his life in the line of duty as Capt Ajmal.
With ground offensives continuing in parts of Tirah valley for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, security forces gained control of some areas which were previously held by the banned groups.
Informed sources told Dawn that security forces had entered Garhi Kamar Khel, Nakai Malikdin Khel, Zarmanza in Sikandar Khel and Dwa Thoe, Tangu, Mehraban Kalay, Khaeyst, Tharkho Kas, Mailu, Thor Darra and Malakabad localities in Kukikhel ...a tribe of primitives inhabiting Khyber Agency. They are a branch of the Afridi tribe. Traditionally they have been migratory, tromping between Jamrud and the Rajgal valley with the seasons. The tribe has had mustache-cursing relationships with several other tribes, including the Zakkakhel and Kambarkhel, and with the Mullagori. They make welcome most anyone with a turban and automatic weapons, but every once in a while they get together a tribal lashkar to mollify the government... area. All these areas had been under the control of Tariq Afridi group of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) since 2010.
The sources said ground forces were supported by intense artillery firing and aerial shelling by helicopter gunships. They said troops faced little or no resistance in these localities as forces of Evil affiliated with the TTP, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Lashkar-e-Islam ...a group of Islamic bandidos infesting Khyber Agency. It's headed by a former bus driver.... had vacated their sanctuaries prior to the assault by security forces.
Security officials while confirming the advance into the bad boy-occupied territories said that fleeing forces of Evil had left behind a huge cache of arms and ammunition. Militants' hideouts were demolished by the troops.
They said artillery was now targeting bad boy positions in Sra Vella and Wachay Wany areas of Kukikhel. They said fleeing forces of Evil had taken refuge in areas close to the Afghan border, including Serhai and Rajgul.

Women fighters at a Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant base on Mount Sinjar in northwest Iraq, just like their male counterparts, have to be ready for action at any time. Smoke from the front line, marking their battle against Islamic State, which launched an assault on northern Iraq last summer, is visible from the base.

It might catch on. I'd be glad to see them take the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and impose a new rule: men to be forced to endure the lack of rights they've imposed on women. Men to be forced into burqas. Men shunted out of the classroom and off the board of Saudi Aramco. They can wash the dishes.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency still leads various--and sometimes outlandish--military projects. In 2011, the public managed to get a brief glimpse of the next generation of these stealthy choppers.
During the mission that led to the death of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, a super-secret chopper crashed at the Al Qaeda leader's compound.
This aircraft--nicknamed a "Stealth Hawk" as it appeared to be a modified UH-60 Black Hawk--probably isn't the only one of its kind in Washington's arsenal.
