Daesh guns down 7 protesters in Derna
[ARABNEWS] Seven people were rubbed out on Friday at a protest against Daesh in the eastern Libyan city of Derna, residents said.

The protesters marched after Friday prayers toward the myrmidon group's main base in Derna when gunnies from there opened fire into the crowd, several residents said, adding about 30 people were maimed.

Daesh and other radical groups have been fighting for control of the eastern coastal city.

It added: "All government services are following developments with interest in coordination with Libyan, regional and international parties, to liberate without delay the Tunisian mission team and guarantee its safety."

The ministry criticized what it said was "flagrant violation of Tunisia's international illusory sovereignty and international and diplomatic norms".

Tunis did not say who had seized its consul staff in Tripoli, which is controlled by the Fajr Libya militia alliance.

Armed militia seizes 10 Tunisian consulate employees in Libyan capital
[FOXNEWS] An armed militia stormed into the Tunisian general consulate in Libya's capital on Friday, taking 10 employees hostage, officials said.

Mokhtar Chaouachi, a front man for the Tunisian Foreign Ministry, said it was not clear whether the attackers were holding the hostages on site or had taken them elsewhere. He also said he did not know whether the attackers had opened fire or had made any demands in exchange for the captives.

The Tunisian Foreign Ministry called the attack "a vile aggression" against Tunisian illusory sovereignty and a violation of international conventions protecting diplomatic personnel. The government is monitoring the situation and working to secure the release of the employees, a ministry statement said.

Yemen Rocket Kills One at Saudi Mosque

killed one civilian and maimed another at a mosque during Friday prayers in the Saudi border region, the Saudi-led coalition said.

"They fired one missile, a Katyusha... at the time of Friday prayer," Brigadier General Ahmed al-Assiri, the coalition front man, told AFP.

Assiri initially said two people had died in the attack.

The incident came two days before Yemen's exiled government and rebel forces are set to hold talks in Geneva sponsored by the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
in an effort to end the war that has killed more than 2,000 people.

On the Saudi side of the frontier at least 39 people -- civilians and troops -- have now bit the dust in shelling and border skirmishes since March 26, when the coalition began bombing Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen.

Authorities tightly restrict access by foreign journalists to the border zone.

Last Saturday the coalition said it shot down a Scud missile fired from Yemen and Assiri said the alliance is still hunting others that might be in rebel hands.

"We are not at zero risk," he said.

The coalition made targeting rebel missile capabilities a priority when it launched its aerial campaign.

"We destroyed most of them," Assiri said, adding that 300 missiles of various types belonged to the Yemeni army before the war.

Houthis obtained government weapons when they seized the capital Sanaa late last year before advancing into other parts of the country.

have been fighting in Yemen alongside the Huthis, who are still hiding missiles in caves and other locations, Assiri said.

About 10 percent of the rebel missile arsenal has yet to be located, he said.

"We work hard to find them. It is not an easy task."

Plot to blow up Saudi embassy: Bahrain jails 57
[ARABNEWS] A court in Bahrain has handed down sentences of up to life imprisonment against 57 Shiites accused of plotting attacks against police and other targets, state media reported.

The defendants have been convicted of forming an organization in 2012-2013 that "used terrorism as a way to achieve its aims," the prosecution said in a statement carried by the official Bahrain News Agency.

The high criminal court found that the group had smuggled weapons and explosives into the kingdom and plotted attacks against police and vital infrastructure, as well as a foreign embassy, the prosecution said.

A local daily said the targets included the Saudi embassy and the causeway linking Bahrain with Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
.

The court handed down five life sentences, 22 15-year terms, 29 10-year terms and one three-year term. Four defendants were acquitted.

Only 33 of the defendants are in jug. The rest were tried in absentia.

General prosecutor Ahmed Al-Hammadi said all those convicted except for one were also stripped of their citizenship.

A judicial source said that most of the defendants are from the Shiite village of Bani Jamra, near the capital Manama.

Unesco condemns Yemen heritage site 'air strike'
[BBC] UN heritage body Unesco has condemned destruction in "one of the world's oldest jewels" of Islamic culture in an apparent air strike in Yemen.

#2  Think of all the comfortable, healthy modern buildings that will be erected in their place, though they will lack the historic charm of that which was destroyed.

The Saudis have been systemically doing the same at home, partially for the pleasure of living in modern construction, and partially to reduce "idolotrous" attention to historic sites and to erase evidence of the region's pre-Islamic history.

Canada Arrests Somali for Alleged Role in Kidnapping of Amanda Lindhout

Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
a Somali national for what they say was his role in the 2008 hostage-taking in Somalia of two freelance journalists, Canadian Amanda Lindhout and Australian Nigel Brennan.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said on Friday they arrested Ali Omar Ader in Ottawa on Thursday. RCMP Assistant Commissioner James Malizia told news hounds the arrest followed extraterritorial undercover operations, but he would not say whether the Somali government had been kept informed.

Ader was one of the main negotiators during the 15 months the two journalists were in captivity, Malizia said. He said Ader had been in Ottawa for a few days.

Upon their release for ransom in November 2009, Lindhout and Brennan recounted having been beaten, tortured and nearly starved.

Lindhout and Brennan were kidnapped on Aug. 23, 2008. Lindhout told the Toronto Star after her release that her kidnappers were Islamic fundamentalists affiliated with the Hizbul-Islam murderous Moslem group.

Brennan tweeted the following message after news of the arrest: "Amazing news of the arrest of Ali Omar Ader, aka Adan the Somali criminal involved in my kidnapping. Finally Justice will be served!"

American Teenager Pleads Guilty to Helping ISIS
[al-Alam] A 17-year-old in the U.S. state of Virginia has pleaded guilty to running a social media-driven propaganda and fund-raising operation for the ISIS terrorist group.

Ali Shukri Amin had gained notoriety for running the @AmreekiWitness Twitter account (now suspended), and dragging the U.S. State Department into a war of words online.

Between last June and this February, the teenager gained more than 4,000 followers, and over the course of around 7,000 tweets, defended and celebrated the brutal terrorism of ISIS.

According to a statement by the U.S. Department of Justice, Amin also taught others to use Bitcoin to cover up their funding of the group, and incited another Virginia teenager to travel to Syria to take up arms.

He could face a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Amin was tossed in the clink

Four policemen shot dead in Quetta
[DAWN] Four coppers were killed in an attack on their van in Pashtoonabad area here on Thursday.

It was the second attack on police force in a week in the area. Four coppers were killed there five days ago. And five people belonging to the Shia Hazara community were bumped off on Sunday in an attack on a shop near Bacha Khan Chowk not far from here.

According to official sources, a police party was chasing a suspect when four gunnies shot up their van near Mannan Chowk. A policeman left the van and tried to engage the assailants. But he was hit by several bullets and died.

The police personnel who was struck down in his prime were identified as Assistant Sub Inspector Mohammad Wazir, constables Zahir Khan and Mehmood Khan and driver Kalimullah.

"The killing of eight coppers in a week is part of a plan hatched by enemies against the China-Pakistain Economic Corridor," IG Amlish Khan said. But such attacks, he added, could not detract the police force from the fight against terrorism.

Quetta police chief Abdul Razzak Cheema said that 33 suspects enjugged

after the June 6 killing of four coppers had divulged some information which would help police to lay hands on the terrorist group behind the two attacks.

He said that there would be some changes in the security plan, including the use of cycle of violences by patrol teams.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria Army Regains Control of Southern Airbase
[AnNahar] Syrian army troops regained full control of an airbase in southern Sweida province on Friday, a day after rebels overran large parts of it, a monitor said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said rebels from the Southern Front alliance withdrew from the Al-Thalaa base under heavy regime fire.

"Opposition fighters withdrew from areas they seized yesterday after heavy regime aerial bombardment and the arrival of reinforcements from the (pro-regime militia) National Defence Forces and Popular Committees," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.

He said there were casualties on both sides in the fighting, but gave no immediate figure.

Rebels from the Southern Front alliance entered the airport on Thursday, quickly seizing most of the facility.

It was the first such advance by rebels into Sweida, a province which is largely in regime hands and home to the a majority of Syria's Druze minority.

Syrian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
had denied that the airport had fallen to rebels, and the provincial governor insisted life was continuing "as normal" in the region.

The rebel advance into Al-Thalaa came after they had captured on Tuesday the 52nd Brigade base, located in neighbouring Daraa province.

Sweida province has been spared much of the fighting in Syria.

The Druze are followers of a secretive offshoot of Shiite Islam, who made up around three percent of Syria's pre-war population of 23 million people.

The community has been somewhat divided during the country's uprising, with some members fighting alongside the government and others expressing sympathy for the opposition.

Mostly, the Druze have taken up arms only in defence of their areas, and have kept out of the fighting more broadly.

Concerns for the minority's fate have grown this week with the Southern Front's advance into Sweida and reports that al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front killed at least 20 Druze civilians in a village in northwestern Idlib province.

The incident in the village of Qalb al-Lawzah was condemned by the Southern Front, who issued a statement Thursday pledging not to fight against the Druze.

The Qalb al-Lawzah killings also drew condemnation from U.N. envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura.

"He strongly condemns such attacks on civilians, in particular communities in Syria, which are in an especially vulnerable situation amidst the ongoing violent conflict," his spokeswoman said in a statement.

Kurds Confirm U.S. Citizen Killed Fighting for Them against IS

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) jihadists in the Kobane region of northern Syria, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) said Friday.

Keith Broomfield, 37, was killed on June 3 in an operation to take the village of Qentere in the Kobane region from IS, the YPG said in a statement quoted by the pro-Kurdish Firat news agency.

His body had on Thursday been driven through the Mursitpinar border gate to the Turkish side of the border with local Kurds turning out in force, making "V" signs and chanting slogans praising Broomfield, an AFP photographer said.

In the border town of Suruc, hundreds of Kurds lined the road, letting off fireworks, waving Kurdish flags and shouting, 'deaders never die'. The body was taken to the city of Adana ahead of expected repatriation back home.

The U.S. State Department had Wednesday announced an American man had been killed in Syria, without confirming reports that he died fighting alongside Kurdish forces against the IS.

Reports said Broomfield is believed to be the first U.S. citizen killed fighting for the Kurds against IS.

The YPG said that Broomfield, from Massachusetts, had taken up arms in Kurdish ranks in late February under the Kurdish nom-de-guerre of Gelhat Rumet.

"We announce his death in great sadness and commemorate his enthusiasm and his valuable comradeship", said the YPG.

"We offer our condolences to the family of Keith, to all American people and the people of Kurdistan, and we reiterate our promise to carry the aims of all deaders to victory," it added.

YPG fighters have for the last months been locked in intense battles with IS jihadists for control of the Kurdish-populated regions of northern Syria, just over the Turkish border.

They scored a major victory at the start of this year by winning the battle for the hugely symbolic main town of Kobane but fighting is still raging elsewhere.

Dozens of Westerners are believed to have joined Kurdish forces in Syria, defying warnings from their governments.

Briton Konstandinos Erik Scurfield, Australian Ashley Johnston and German woman Ivana Hoffmann were killed earlier this year fighting on the side of the Kurds.

In a video taken before his death and released by the YPG, Broomfield said he has come to the region "to do whatever I can to help Kurdistan."

"It seems like the right thing to do," he added.

They have moved into the spotlight of the Syrian war this week, with advances by Lions of Islam triggering statements of concern about their fate from both Israel's president and Druze figures in Leb.

Some Druze leaders have warned of an existential threat facing their kin after Nusra Front fighters rubbed out 20 people in a Druze village in northwestern Syria on Wednesday - an incident ignited by Nusra's attempt to confiscate a house.

Groups fighting to topple Assad say he is trying to exploit sectarian fear to shore up his support base. Bashar al-Zoubi, the head of a rebel group involved in the battle for the army base, said those attempts would fail, adding that the Druze know the "regime is collapsing and cannot protect them".

Regime-held Homs suffers militias' abuses
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Three serious incidents took place in the regime-loyal parts of Homs city, but they pass through without any punishment or action taken.

First one was in Abassiyeh neighborhood when many armed people advance toward a barrier for the regime and shot toward guards shouting "Ya Hussein" then they tossed in the calaboose

guards and prevented anyone from interfering.

The second incident was when a cycle of violence driven by a driver in military uniform hit a child with his mother in al-Khodari street, the child died and no one tried to rescue him, the driver run away without any attempt to catch him, then the driver's friends came and took the cycle of violence without any action taken against anyone, and the story got forgotten.

In Nuzha district the third incident took place, when quarrel started between many people, then one of them held a hand grenade and threatened of exploding it among people who gathered to see what was happening.

Hardly people convinced him to return it to his pocket, where no police or authority to act in such case.

People in government-held areas of Homs suffer of its armed figures and their shocking practices and feel threatened of them more than fighters outside.

"for a bag of bread, they threaten with a gun, for a gas bomb they raise grenades, and for a girl a Kalashnikov is open, but in fighting, all hideaway" a regime-loyalist summarized the situation and reality of regime's gunnies.

Homs was once dubbed "the capital of the revolution" against Assad. Most of the city, except the battered district of Waar, has returned to regime control in 2014 after two years of bombardment and siege.
