[CBSNEWS] A U.S. Coast Guard crew from Alameda, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, stopped a semi-submersible vessel carrying more than 16,000 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean last month -- the largest bust of its kind in Coast Guard history.
CBS the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... reports that on July 18, the crew apprehended four suspected smugglers and captured 275 bales of cocaine worth more than $181 million wholesale from the self-propelled semi-submersible (SPSS) vessel, a low-riding vessel often used to smuggle massive quantities of narcotics across the ocean nearly undetected.

If these boys ever learn how to effectively quiet engine noise and loose the wake they're going to be troublesome. Probably trying to go too fast.

[IsraelTimes] The breach led to a 2-week shutdown of the network as investigation continues into how data was gathered
Hackers based in Russia penetrated the email network of the Pentagon's Joint Chiefs of Staff, leading to a two-week shutdown of the system, NBC News reported Thursday.
The Pentagon confirmed that the Joint Chiefs' email system was taken offline pending an investigation but declined to elaborate.
"We continue to identify and mitigate cyber security risks across our networks," Pentagon spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Valerie Henderson said.
"With those goals in mind, we have taken the Joint Staff network down and continue to investigate. Our top priority is to restore services as quickly as possible.
"As a matter of policy and for operational security reasons, we do not comment on the details of cyber incidents or attacks against our networks."
NBC, citing unnamed sources, said it was not clear if the attack had been sanctioned by the Russian government. But the sources told the network that the cyber attack relied on an automated system that rapidly gathered massive amounts of data.
According to officials who declined to be identified, the intrusion occurred around July 25 and affected some 4,000 military and civilian personnel, NBC said. The officials said no classified information was seized or compromised but that the Pentagon decided to shut down the entire email system during its investigation.
The news comes after US officials confirmed some 21 million US babus government employees, contractors and others had personal information compromised in two breaches. Officials have declined to identify the source of the hack of personnel records but it is widely believed to be part of a Chinese espionage program.

This wasn't a hack. Some asshat opened up an infected attachment.
You know, this is sooo easy to stop and yet one of the best ways of getting malware past the external firewalls and security. All it takes is some idiot to open an attachment.

The people freaking out over this need to be shipped to ISIS held territory so they can see what true repression and racism looks like. (and hopefully get beheaded along the way)
Fortunately the dispatcher determined that "the man was exercising his First Amendment rights and not violating the law" and hung up.

Darth, it's not illegal to display the Stars and Bars - FOR NOW.
Personally, I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and lived in New York state for many years. However, I am tempted to display the Stars and Bars just to annoy people.

The battle flag is not the same as the Stars and Bars. The Stars and Bars was the first National flag that had red and white bars with a blue square in the top left with the 13 stars in a circle.

And ou can't say "trigger warning" anymore. Some delicate flower may be traumatized by the word "trigger" as it refers to a part of a firearm and is therefore icky.

[ALMANAR.LB] Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi on Thursday inaugurates a "new" Suez Canal in what called in the media as "a historic moment of the country", as Egypt seeks to boost its economy and international standing.
The event in the port city of Ismailiya, due to be attended by several heads of state including French President Francois Hollande ...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist... , comes two years after then army chief Sisi overthrew his Moslem Brüderbund predecessor.
Sisi broke ground on the project last August after being elected president on promises of strengthening security and reviving a dilapidated economy.
The new section, built at a cost of $9 billion (7.9 billion euros) and funded entirely by Egyptian investors, runs part of the way alongside the existing canal connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
"It's an achievement for the people who managed to fund it as a national project and accomplished it through perseverance and hard work," Sisi's office has said.
It involved 37 kilometers of dry digging, creating what is effectively a "second lane", and widening and deepening another 35 kilometers of the existing canal.
It will cut the waiting period for vessels from 18 hours to 11.
By 2023 the number of ships using the canal will increase to 97 per day from 49 now.

D *** NG, does this mean the song isn't about the "ERIE CANAL"???
#4
traffic only expected to increase by 10% to 20% initially
however, the faster transit allows Egypt to charge higher fees so revenue will probably increase by 25%; this should be enough to service and retire the debt (this was not sharia compliant financing IIRC)
The big question mark is the development projects adjacent to the canals which establish some huge industrial zones. So far, the zones haven't booked any major companies to build manufacturing there (at least that we know ).

[iol] Johannesburg - An elderly Joburg man was left speechless when he was told he'd have to wait eight months before he could have his knee X-rayed at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
But, after The Star's intervention, Bernard Price, 86, was to have his left knee X-rayed on Thursday. Price, 86, had been admitted to the hospital at the weekend, to be treated for fluid on the knee.
He was discharged and told to go to the hospital's X-ray department to determine what line of treatment would be required.
Price, who uses two walking sticks to get around -- albeit slowly -- is the building superintendent of the Joubert Park block of flats he lives in.
Without urgent treatment of his knee problem, he is afraid he may not be able to carry out his duties, which involve moving about to sort out the needs of the tenants in the building.
"I can't get around like I should. It was brought on by a fall about 10 days ago outside the lifts at the building. When I was told they couldn't take the X-ray till May 6, 2016, I was disappointed because I am fairly active, and from what I can glean, it looks like I need a knee replacement," he said.
But X-rays aren't the only things one has to wait a long time for at Charlotte Maxeke.
In June, it was revealed in a written response by Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu to DA MPL Jack Bloom's questions in the legislature that 2 246 patients were on waiting lists for surgery at the hospital, of whom 1 500 need a kidney transplant.
"I understand and know there are waiting lists... if I had cash available, I would go to another hospital, but I don't. And I thought, if this is what's happening to me, it must be happening to others who need X-rays," Price said.
He added he was treated well at a hospital ward over the weekend, but that treatment depended on which ward one went to.

[LAHT] A gang looted at least two food trucks in North-western Venezuela's Sinamaica and set fire to the municipal headquarters of the region, local media reported Wednesday.
Zulia state government official, Billy Gasca, confirmed the incident on his Twitter account adding the matter was being investigated.
According to the Panorama newspaper, the municipal spokesperson said five offices were affected in the incident.
El Nacional newspaper reported, the robbery of the trucks came as a protest "against food scarcity and rationing" in the region as people lived in "deplorable conditions, going without electricity supply or internet connection for several days."
The portal Últimas Noticias quoted anonymous sources from the municipal offices, who said the attack began Tuesday night when the attackers entered the municipal building and set the place on fire, after robbing computers and electrical goods.
The government is yet to officially comment on the incident that follow other similar incidents in other parts of the country and has renewed debate around the economic crisis in the country.

I don't think Columbia has to worry ed, they have a real army, that's been practicing for couple of decades getting the kinks and corruption out. However, given the obvious stupidity exhibited by Caracas, they might be given a work out. Long past the time for Bogota to pay the commies back for giving FARC sanctuaries and provide a haven for opposition groups.

A total of five Ukrainian soldiers, two civilians and another six were wounded in artillery attacks in Donetsk, according to Russian language news accounts.
Colonel Alexander Motuzyanik, spokesman for the Ukrainian ministry of defense's main military effort in Ukraine, the Antiterrorist Operation (ATO) said Thursday that artillery fire, albeit at lower levels of intensity, continued in several hotspots in both Donetsk and Lugansk. News reports failed to detail the fate of two of the five killed in action, while reporting that three men of the Ukrainian 74th Reconnaissance Battalion were killed when they stepped on a land mine near the village of Karlovka.
A total of 65 instances of ceasefire violations by rebel forces were recorded by Ukrainian forces Thursday including in western districts of Donetsk city and near Gorlovka, which is north of Donetsk city.
Districts in western Donetsk city hit by rebel artillery include Peski, Avdievka and Opytnoye. All three are directly on the front line, and have been issues between the two combatants since February. Ukrainian media say 120mm mortars were used in the attack.
Near Gorlovka, rebel artillery hit Ukrainian positions in Kurdyumovka.
Ukrainian artillery struck targets in western Donetsk city on Wednesday, including at Spartak, the Oktyabrsky district and at the Donetsk airport, according to data supplied by the Donetsk ministry of defense. Artillery used on those attacks include 122mm and 152mm artillery, 82mm and 120mm mortars, and tank gunfire (125mm).
Rebel media said that on Thursday Gorlovka was shelled overnight, killing two unidentified civilians.
The artillery fire was described by the Donetsk official news website as most intense in Novoazovskiy in far southern Donetsk, on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov. The village of Primorsk was struck more than 30 times on Thursday. Now that rebel forces have abandoned Shirokino in a unilateral act of goodwill, Primorsk and Novoazovskiy are now considered to be the rebels' front line in far southern Donetsk.
Rebel official media said that Ukrainian artillery fire struck rebel positions near Spartak and the airport on Thursday.

.....while reporting that three men of the Ukrainian 74th Reconnaissance Battalion were killed when they stepped on a land mine near the village of Karlovka.
This might have been prevented with the proper defensive tools and training. Another missed opportunity.

Fascinating how in our non-history indoctrination classes no one seems to cover the number of ships that didn't make it from Europe to America in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Century. Heck, just remember the Titanic last century.
