Africa Horn
Iran tries to gain foothold in Somalia
Amid Gulf States' growing concern, Iranian government and charitable organizations are trying to gain a foothold in the war-ravaged Horn of Africa nation, informed sources tell Garowe Online.
The Iranians, fresh from a victory over Barack Obama, look to encircle and eventually gain control over the Arabian peninsula. If getting the use of Yemen doesn't work, Somalia will do...
Iran sent a delegation consisting of senior diplomats and Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation officials to Somalia, forging fledgling ties with local authorities and expanding humanitarian and political projects at the expense of Sunni power, Saudi Arabia.

Just five weeks ago, the Iranian delegation landed at Abdullahi Yusuf International Airport in Galkayo, a town that straddles the border between Puntland and South-central regions and was escorted to the capital Garowe, where they met with President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali.

The journalists were kept in dark about the ill-intended agendas of Iranian officials who asked Puntland to grant licenses to fishing vessels with undocumented storage capacities.
Guns and ammo for the mosques, with some to be trans-shipped to Gazoo and Syria...
Experts pointed to the fact that potential relief from sanctions after the nuclear deal with World Powers could be attributed to the rapidly expanding influence of Iran.
So the Iranians have the cash to bribe Punties and Somalis...
Iran is also discussing opening of study centers, possibly mosques and ticked presence of Iranian humanitarian workers with Somali officials.
The humanitarian workers will be based in the mosques to keep an eye on the guns and ammo...
Presidency sources further disclosed that officials from Iranian embassy in Mogadishu pledged scholarship positions for Somali students leaving secondary schools. Puntland President agreed to the plan of receiving decent scholarship grants from Shiite power which is ostensibly blamed for exporting religious revolution and racist religious ideologies to Africa.

Somalis, all Sunni Muslims have a long standing relationship with Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam’s holiest site.
So it's a long term move by Iran, but cash has ways of loosening a grip...
In November 2012, Iran stepped up its involvement in Somalia on the heels of report by United Nations monitors on arms shipment dispatched by Iran in exchange for Uranium deposits in 2006 in violation of United Nations arms embargo.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Akbar Salehi paid first visit by a top Iranian official to Mogadishu, cutting the ribbon for Iranian embassy.

At the height of the country’s worst famine, Iranian Red Moon-Shaped Thingy Crescent Society and Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation played larger role in humanitarian assistances. The foundations managed weapons centers educational centers and armories Qur’an schools as part of campaign by Iran to spread Shiite Islam according to analysts closely following the latest developments.

Saudi-led coalition jets are pummeling Houthi positions in Yemen, with Emirati troops fighting alongside Hadi loyalists in a bid to ward off Iranian influence in their backyard.
Which is why the Iranians are spreading their bets into Puntland...
Last week, sixteen Iranian sailors overpowered pirates on a fishing vessel off the coast of El Hur in central Somalia.

Arabia
Saudi cities to become legitimate targets for Yemeni troops
[Iran Press TV] The Saudi cities of Jeddah, Abha, and the capital Riyadh will turn into legitimate targets for the Yemeni forces in their retaliatory attacks against the kingdom, which is continuing military aggression against its impoverished southern neighbor, a front man for the Yemeni army says.
Pretty convenient when you can define "legitimate" any way you want.
Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman made the remarks on Saturday, a day after attacks by Ansarullah fighters and their allied army units killed dozens of Saudi, Emirati, and Bahraini soldiers in Yemen's Ma'rib province.

The Yemeni official also said the number of Emirati troopers killed in the raids goes beyond 75, contradicting the UAE's official figure standing at 45.

The Emirati troops as well as five Bahraini soldiers were killed on Friday in an arms depot blast in al-Safer airport in Ma'rib, 250 kilometers (150 miles) east of the capital Sana'a, a source at the scene said. The Ansarullah fighters said the blast was caused by a rocket attack.

In a separate attack, at least 16 Saudi soldiers were killed in an ambush by Ansarullah fighters and their allied army units near the Mash'al base in Soddy Arabia

Early on Sunday, Saudi bomber aircraft pounded the Yemeni capital Sana'a several times.

On Saturday, Yemeni forces launched missile attacks at several targets including a military camp in Jizan.

Later in the day, Saudi warplanes targeted the camps of internally displaced Yemenis in the northwestern Sa'ada province, killing at least eight people including women and kiddies.
About the ten Saudi troops killed, Al Ahram reports:

Britain
Cameron Promises to Receive 'Thousands more' Syrian Refugees
More details on this story from yesterday.
[ALMANAR.LB] British Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
announced on Friday that the United Kingdom will provide resettlement to "thousands more" Syrian refugees.

Cameron's pledge came following calls from European counterparts, human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
and charity organizations and some leading figures such as Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and former Foreign Secretary David Miliband.

"Britannia will act with its head and heart [to find long-term solutions to the crisis]," Cameron told the media in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon.

The refugees are expected to come from UN camps on the border with Syria, and not from among refugees in Europe already.

Earlier, the British premier had said that accepting more refugees into the UK was not the answer to the refugee crisis and claimed that the UK was doing its bit already.

In response to Cameron's earlier remarks, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Muiznieks, said Thursday: "I am seriously concerned by the British prime minister's position that the UK should not provide protection to more refugees from the Middle East."

Muiznieks said that at the moment, the UK was doing much less than other European countries, like Germany or Sweden, which gave refuge to thousands of Syrians.

"Additional tragedies and shocking pictures could be avoided if politicians had the courage and determination to uphold human rights standards and common European values," the commissioner said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory, Igor and Oleg were discussing what the quickest way might be to deal with the monster...
British media coverage of the tragic deaths of two Syrian brothers -- three-year-old Aylan Kurdi and his five-year-old brother Galip -- caused public outcry.

The British premier said that "he was moved" with the photographs of two young brothers who were washed up to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
coast after their attempt to cross to a Greek island failed tragically in the sea.

A parliament petition asking the UK government to act to assist refugees is now signed by more than 350,000 people.

Petitions signed by more than 100,000 people can be debated at the parliament.

Germany was the largest recipient of new asylum claims in the EU in 2014, with an approximate 173,100 asylum applications.

The UK received 31,300 new applications for asylum by the end of 2014.

According to United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
, there are 1,938,999 registered refugees in Turkey alone as of August 25, 2015.

Brazil blames European countries for refugee crisis
[Iran Press TV] Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has blasted Europe for the current refugee crisis, blaming the European countries for the death of a Syrian toddler after the image of his lifeless body circulated in media and galvanized public opinion.

Speaking at an event in the northeastern state of Paraiba on Friday, Rousseff said that Aylan Kurdi died due to the restrictions imposed by European states on the entry of asylum seekers into their borders.

"That 3-year-old Syrian child died because he was not welcome. He died because he was abandoned, because countries created barriers for the entrance of that child," she said.

US tells Moscow it's concerned about possible Russian military build-up in Syria
[Al Ahram] US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
raised US concerns about reports of "an imminent enhanced Russian military buildup" in Syria, in a phone call Saturday to his counterpart in Moscow, the US State Department said.

"The secretary made clear that if such reports were accurate, these actions could further escalate the conflict, lead to greater loss of innocent life, increase refugee flows and risk confrontation with the anti-ISIL coalition operating in Syria," the State Department said.

Kerry spoke by telephone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, discussing with him "US concerns about reports suggesting an imminent enhanced Russian buildup there," the department said.

"The two agreed that discussions on the Syrian conflict would continue in New York later this month," it said.

Refugee influx to cost Germany 10 billion euros: Report
[AlAharam] The cost of Germany taking in a record number of asylum seekers could hit 10 billion euros ($11 billion), four times what Berlin spend looking after refugees last year, a German newspaper said Saturday.
That's only for this year. How much next year, and the years to come?
But despite the 800,000 refugees expected to pour into Europe's biggest economy this year, Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
said on Saturday she was still aiming to balance the country's budget.

The German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung calculated the revised costs in line with what was spent on 203,000 asylum seekers in 2014.

Before Berlin raised its estimate of the overall number of people expected to file an asylum claim, it had set aside a budget of 5.6 billion euros to accommodate some 450,000 people, the paper said.

With the increase of arrivals on German soil, the figure of 10 billion euros would be "consistent" with the cost estimates at all administrative levels --- federal, regional and local -- the paper said.

Berlin has estimated it would cost local authorities between 12,000 and 13,000 euros to care for each refugee, which would include accommodation while an asylum claim is being processed, meals, medical care and 143 euros spending money per month.

Another half a billion euros would be needed for the regional authorities to pay for extra teaching positions, as well as an unspecified sum for hiring another 2,000 employees for the federal office for immigration and refugees, and police reinforcements.

Merkel's coalition will meet on Sunday evening to discuss the sharing out of costs between the state and local authorities, which must be settled by September 24.

But despite the financial challenges, Merkel said on Saturday she wanted to balance the budget.

"As a difficult task faces us, we cannot be satisfied with saying: 'Balancing the budget and the question of debt is no longer important,'" she said in her weekly video address.

Merkel, who on Monday promised that the federal government would do more to help local authorities, did not mention any figures.

On Saturday alone, Germany was expecting to receive an estimated to 7,000 migrants crossing the border from Austria.

#4  The prognosis for 2015 is 1.2 million 'refugees.'

I've heard that numbers circulated at a CDU (Merkel's party) event in Berlin suggested that the net 'refugee' influx for 2015-2017 would be 4-7 million, 1.5-2 million in '17 alone.

This is little more than a rumor. As an extrapolation based on empirical observation it isn't implausible however, considering Merkel's iron political will and chain migration.

#3  The fault lies foremost with the pathology of arab-islamic political culture. Russia, Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are responsible as well.

Gaddafi unilaterally tore up the 2003 agreement and resumed his aggression against the West. The choice was between taking him out before or after the next Lockerbie.

The Austrian "Freedom Party" is part of the traditionally pro Muslim, pro Arab, anti Israel and anti Western European right. They've been palling around with state sponsors of islamic terrorism for decades.

They've adopted some anti islamic political positions in response to the tensions brought about by islamic immigration. A purely reactive move.

Merkel: No Legal Limit to Asylum Seekers Germany Can Take
[ALMANAR.LB] Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
said Saturday that her country won't stop anyone from seeking asylum, as thousands of migrants desperate to leave Hungary made their way westward to Germany and Austria.

German officials recently predicted that up to 800,000 migrants would arrive by the end of the year, many of them refugees fleeing war and persecution in Syria, Iraq and Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel"The right to political asylum has no limits on the number of asylum seekers," Merkel told the Funke consortium of newspapers in an interview.

"As a strong, economically healthy country we have the strength to do what is necessary" and ensure every asylum seeker gets a fair hearing, she added.

But Merkel repeated her government's position that migrants who don't meet the criteria for asylum need to be returned to their home countries.

Even prosperous Germany has struggled to meet the demand for additional housing for the tens of thousands of migrants arriving monthly.

Merkel said her government wasn't planning to raise taxes to pay for the additional cost. But her governing coalition will be meeting Sunday to discuss how best to cope with the migrant influx.

#1  For clarification: No one entering Germany from any neighboring country has any legal claim to asylum in Germany under the German constitution and the Dublin agreement.

Merkel has unilaterally waived Dublin agreement provisions in order to lure 'migrants' into Germany.

Let's look at a couple:

Economics - increase demand for food, fuel, water increases prices, decreases availability if not replenished. I don't think anyone brought their farming equipment with them.

Socio-Interaction - anytime a number of people make contact with a distant number of people there is an exchange of illnesses and one group can/will have a dangerous bug or two the other group has little resistance towards.

I don't see snow boots and coats with any of them.

Newborn boy found dead as migrants clash with Greek police
[Al Ahram] A newborn boy was found dead after his migrant parents reached the shores of a Greek island in a boat from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Saturday, while new scuffles broke out between thousands of migrants and police on another Greek island.

The baby boy was taken from the island of Agathonisi to a hospital on the nearby island of Samos, where he was pronounced dead.
He's dead, Jim!
the Greek coastguard service said.

Greece is struggling to cope with a wave of migrants and refugees from the war in Syria making the short crossing from Turkey to its eastern islands, including Kos, Lesbos, Samos and Agathonisi. Thousands are waiting to be identified and ferried to Athens to continue their trip to other European countries.

A Greek ferry unloaded 2,500 migrants at the port of Piraeus on Saturday, bringing the total number of people moved to the country's mainland since last Monday to 13,373, the coastguard said.

In a sign of how difficult the situation has become, scuffles broke out for the second day on Lesbos in a row between police and about 3,000 migrants protesting about lengthy identification procedures, a Rooters eyewitness said.

Earlier in the day, about 1,000 migrants got out of a temporary camp and blocked a central road on the island, a police official told Rooters on condition of anonymity.

"It's difficult, there is shortage in water, we have kids, we have small babies, we have a shortage in all kinds of service," a Syrian migrant told Rooters TV, after getting off the ferry in Piraeus.

The mayor of Lesbos' main town warned on Saturday the island would boycott a general election on Sept. 20 if the government didn't address the situation immediately.

Hurriyet: Missing Turkish soldier seen in Islamic State hands
[Ynet] A Turkish soldier who went missing this week on the border with Syrian territory controlled by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
has been seen in a hospital run by the bad boys, Hurriyet newspaper reported on Saturday.

If confirmed, the soldier's capture would be a major problem for The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, after it stepped up military action against Islamic State in July, opening its air bases to US-led coalition war planes and launching air strikes.

The soldier vanished and another was killed in cross-border shooting with Islamic State fighters on Tuesday near the Turkish town of Kilis, close to Syrian territory that has been under Islamic State control for months.

According to security sources citing intelligence reports, Hurriyet Daily News reported that the soldier had been maimed in the foot and was taken by turbans to a hospital under their control close to the Syrian city of Aleppo.

Turkish officials declined to comment.

Arizona's 'show your papers' immigration law upheld
A federal judge has upheld part of Arizona's contentious immigration law, rejecting claims that the so-called "show your papers" section of the law discriminated against Hispanics. The ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton on Friday was on the last of seven challenges to the 2010 law. The section being upheld allows police in Arizona to check the immigration status of anyone they stop.

Bolton ruled that immigration rights activists failed to show that police would enforce the law differently for Hispanics than other people. The section is sometimes called the "show your papers" provision. The judge also upheld a section that let police check to see if a detainee is in the United States illegally. Bolton voided any laws targeting day laborers.

Karen Tumlin, the legal director of the National Immigration Law Center, one of the parties to the suit, said the group was evaluating its options.

Karachi operation: 'Crime down but sleeper cells still exist'
[DAWN] Though terror-related incidents have been reduced up to 60 per cent in the two years since the commencement of the Bloody Karachi

operation, sleeper cells of terror outfits still exist in the metropolis and law enforcers are making concerted efforts to eliminate the same, Karachi Police AIG Mushtaq Maher told media on Saturday.

The city police chief said 3,000 hardcore criminals had been locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
, while 246 terrorists, 38 kidnappers and ten extortionists had been killed so far in police encounters.

He further claimed that car-snatching incidents reported in the city were the lowest in the past 15 years while cycle of violence-snatching incidents were on the rise, which he said will be curtailed.

Pakistan takes issue of ceasefire violations to UN Security Council
[DAWN] Pakistain has urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to "take notice" of the escalating incidents of firing by Indian troops across the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmire region and along the Working Boundary in which a large number of civilians have been killed and injured, it was officially stated Friday.

In a letter to the President of the UNSC, Ambassador Vitaly Churkin of Russia, who holds the rotational presidency of the 15-member body for the month of September, Pakistain's Ambassador to the UN Maleeha Lodhi emphasised that India should be asked to abide by the 2003 ceasefire agreement.

In doing so, Ambassador Lodhi has taken the issue of India's "provocative" actions to the highest levels of the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...

Altaf's negative politics hurting MQM: Asif Zardari
[DAWN] Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari in a statement on Saturday said Muttahida Qaumi Movement
...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead...
(MQM) chief the increasingly rotundAltaf Hussain
..The head of MQM in Pakistain, who has lived in London and hasn't laid eyes on Pakistain since Caesar made corporal. Judging from the size of him,he may be a Hutt...
's "negative politics" was disastrous for the MQM and urged Altaf to abstain from "unnecessary talk and statements" for better future prospects.

Commenting on Altaf Hussain's latest telephonic address, Zardari said the MQM chief should refrain from giving out indignant remarks and levelling "allegations" on a daily basis, adding that such behaviour was not suitable.

Zardari went on to say that the MQM should include itself in mainstream politics and strive to make Sindh and Pakistain prosperous.

In the statement issued by PPP spokesperson Farhatullah Baber, Zardari said the PPP had always fulfilled its promises with the MQM -- at both the federal and provincial level. But the MQM, he said, had "betrayed" the PPP and went against its promises.

MQM should remove terrorists from ranks, says Saad Rafique
[DAWN] Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said on Saturday that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement
...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead...

's peace.

Speaking to media representatives after participating in the passing out parade of Railway police recruits as chief guest, the minister maintained that policy of the ruling Pakistain Moslem League - Nawaz (PML-N) towards disgruntled MQM politicians over the issue of resignations was the same as it was towards politicians from the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI).

"We even endured their (PTI's) accusations and lies with patience, just so we could bring them back to parliament for greater national interest...a country waging war on ideological, military and economic fronts cannot bear political instability," said Rafique.

The PML-N leader said that the federal government's prime objective was to end of all sorts of terrorism and agitation in order to bring about the country's speedy economic recovery.

"While some elements do not want foreign investment to flow inside Pakistain, the PML-N government is committed to take the bull by its horns for the country's financial well being...including any measures needed to ensure the effective execution of the all important China Pakistain Economic Corridor," the minister said.

International-UN-NGOs
UN Calls for up to 200,000 Refugees to Be Shared among EU States
[ALMANAR.LB] The UN High Commissioner for Refugees called Friday on the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to admit up to 200,000 refugees as part of a "mass relocation program" that would be binding on EU states.
How about the other 200K?
There are perhaps ten million internally displaced and external refugees across the Middle East, not to mention the multiple tens of millions who wouldn't reject a forged Syrian passport if it meant the possibility of a better life. Are they all to be shared, too?
"People who are found to have a valid protection claim... must then benefit from a mass relocation program, with the mandatory participation of all EU member states," Antonio Guterres said in a statement.

Antonio Guterres "A very preliminary estimate would indicate a potential need to increase relocation opportunities to as many as 200,000 places," he added.

His call came ahead of a meeting later Friday of EU foreign ministers to discuss the continent's refugee crisis, of which Syrian toddler Aylan Kurdi, whose lifeless body was found face down in the surf on a Turkish beach on Wednesday, has become a searing symbol.

Referring to the pictures of the dead child, which "had stirred the hearts of the world public", Guterres said: "Europe cannot go on responding to this crisis with a piecemeal or incremental approach."

"No country can do it alone, and no country can refuse to do its part," he declared.

His appeal tallied with a call by La Belle France and Germany for binding EU quotas to share the burden of the influx of migrants and refugees, which has hit Greece, Italia and transit countries in southeastern and central Europe the hardest.

A European source told AFP that European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker would next week unveil a plan for the relocation of at least 120,000 more refugees.

Iraq
Iraq top Shia cleric calls for 'quick action' to uproot corruption
[Iran Press TV] Iraq's senior Shia holy man Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has highlighted the need for fighting corruption in the country, calling on the Baghdad government to start hunting the "big heads" and take "quick action" concerning the implementation of much needed reforms.

"One of the essential steps for reform is to hunt the big heads among the corrupt and hold them accountable, to retrieve all the stolen money," Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani said in a sermon delivered by his representative Ayatollah Ahmad al-Safi in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala on Friday.

He added people "have long suffered from corruption" and they want "this mission to be implemented without procrastination and delay."

"Quick action and real, convincing and assuring steps are needed to show that the officials are serious in implementing reforms," the prominent Iraqi clergyman pointed out.

On August 21, Ayatollah Sistani said the reform campaign must continue, and the government must quickly prosecute the "big thieves of public funds."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran says it foiled sabotage at Fordo nuclear site
[IsraelTimes] Major Saturday air force drill showcases Tehran's military might, 'self-sufficiency,' says official state media

nuclear official said Saturday that the Islamic Theocratic Republic had foiled an attempt by an unnamed "enemy" to sabotage the Fordo uranium enrichment facility.

"Recently, a series of electronic boards were discovered that had been planted in certain equipment at [the] Fordo nuclear site to carry out sabotage acts in the enrichment processes," Asqar Zarea'an, deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, reportedly told the daily Khorassan.

Zarea'an, said to be in charge of security for the country's nuclear program, has warned against similar high-tech efforts to disrupt its operations in the past, according the official news agency Fars.

"Similar to the past, the enemy is seeking to prevent Iran's peaceful nuclear activities using new instruments, and we should identify and defuse these moves with wisdom and prudence," Zarea'an reportedly said at an August presser.

"We aim to raise awareness about the enemy, who is more hostile to us every day," he said, but has not named a specific "enemy" country.

Israel is widely believed to be engaged in covert efforts to stymie and set back the Islamic Theocratic Republic's nuclear efforts.

Also Saturday, Iran's Air Force began a major drill intended to showcase "the combat might of the Iranian armed forces," according to Fars.

"In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in manufacturing essential military hardware and defense systems," the agency said.

Saturday's drill included "all fighter jets, bomber jets, transport planes, reconnaissance aircraft, refueling planes and different kinds of drones," according to an army front man.

It included an air defense drill, according to the report.

(ISIS) released 15 Syrian Christians who had been held by the group in the town of al-Qaryatain in the central Syrian province of Homs, activists reported.
How much did it cost, and who paid?
ISIS had takes more than 250 civilians as hostages after seizing control of al-Qaryatain town last month. The hostages included at least 60 Christians.

The Assyrian Network for Human Rights reported Friday that the bad boy group has released 15 Christians who arrived to Fayrouzah area in the southeastern countryside of Homs.

The network added that the freed people were in a good health.

In the meantime, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the hostages have been released after paying Jizya --a tax imposed on non-Moslems.

More than 2000 Christians used to reside al-Qaryatain before the outbreak of the anti-Assad uprising mid-March 2011. Most of them left the town after violence hit Homs province.

Christians escape terrorism and tyranny in Syria
[ARA] QAMISHLI -- Christians constitute a main social component in Hasakah province and other areas across Syria. During the crisis, many Christians escaped their homes.

Attacks by Lions of Islam of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) on Assyrian villages in Hasakah and Homs have caused mass displacement among the Christian population.

The ISIS group has kidnapped more than 200 Assyrian Christians from the countryside of Hasakah after storming their villages near the town of Tel Temir nearly eight months ago. Dozens others were taken hostages in al-Qaryatain village of Homs province.

The radical group carries out atrocities against Christians after accusing them of apostasy and legitimizes their death, confiscation of their property and enslavement of their women.

Syria's Christians, whether Assyrians, Syriacs or Armenians, have been exposed to forced displacement at the hands of ISIS and the regime-affiliated militias.

Speaking to ARA News, Assyrian politician Nazira Gewriyeh said: "The horrible atrocities and persecution practiced by terror groups and regime-affiliated militias on our Christian community have played a major role in the emigration of many Christian families outside the country."

"ISIS murderous Moslems consider Christians as apostates and justify the robbery of their property and the raping of their women."

Mallik Yaqoub, member of the Assyrian Democratic Organization in Syria's Qamishli, said: "The emigration of the Syriac-Assyrian community from Hasakah and other Syrian areas is not a very new phenomenon. Over the past fifty years this minority group has been fleeing suppression, exclusion, marginalization and persecution under dictatorship and tyranny in Syria."

"Such arbitrary practices have influenced different communities in Syria, especially the Syriac-Assyrian Christian community," Yaqoub told ARA News.

Robel Baho, a Christian resident of Qamishli, commented on the recent wave of emigration among the Assyrian community, saying: "There are many reasons for our people to emigrate, including the miserable economic and security conditions."

"The Assyrian community is also deprived of its rights in Syria. We have never been given the change to prove our ability to run the country. Another reason for this community to escape Syria is the political agenda of the different forces that mostly exclude the Christians from owed centers," he added.
