Gunmen Storm Paghman Mosque, Three Civilians Killed
Gunmen on Wednesday stormed a mosque in Paghman district of Kabul province killing at least three people and wounding three others.

The attack happened while the people were praying inside the mosque. The gunmen were apparently wearing military uniforms.

"We were praying when they opened fire, they killed our friends. I was near the window and escaped from there," eye witness Ezmarai Khan said.

"The security situation is deteriorating in the area. Landmines are exploding, bridges are being blown up, they even attacked us inside the mosque," Paghman resident Mohammad Imran said.

It is said that two of the dead in the mosque attack were government employees.

Shaifullah, a resident of Paghman whose brother was also killed in the attack, said that the presence of Daesh and Taliban in Paghman is concerning.

"They killed several police officers near the bridge, but no one cares about it. The government is lying when they tell us everything is OK in Paghman, Daesh and Taliban are in Paghman, " he said.

Kabul police have so far not commented on the issue.

Four masked gunnies approached the house where the two coppers were staying in the North Sinai quiet provincial capital Al-Arish and opened fire on them, the ministry added in a statement.

Libya car bombing kills 10 anti-ISIS fighters
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A suicide boom-mobileing on Thursday killed 10 members of forces allied to Libya's unity government who are fighting the ISIS hard boy group, hospital sources said.

"Ten dead and seven maimed were brought in... after a suicide kaboom carried out by ISIS (ISIS) in Abu Grein," 130 kilometres (80 miles) west of the coastal city of Sirte, said a source at the central hospital in Misrata, from where the pro-unity government forces have launched an offensive.

The forces allied to the Government of National Accord (GNA) captured the town of Abu Grein on May 17 as they advanced on Sirte, the hard boys' stronghold in Libya.

Thirty-two people were killed and 50 maimed in a car-kaboom in Abu Grein the next day targeting the forces allied with the GNA.

The military command of the anti-ISIS operation said that two other car-bombings inside Sirte itself were foiled on Thursday.

ISIS Deploys Waves Of Suicide Bombers As Libya Stronghold Poised To Fall
[DAILYCALLER] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
unleashed two waves of jacket wallahs on pro-government Libyan forces in a last ditch defense of the group’s stronghold in the country.

More than 16 pro-government Libyan militia fighters were killed in the assault while continuing to rid ISIS from its coastal stronghold in the city of Sirte. ISIS has killed around 180 Libyan militia fighters since the siege began in May, though the terrorist group has lost significant ground in the last few weeks.

Libyan forces have retaken the city’s air base, port and several barracks. They also secured a symbolic victory by knocking down a stage in the middle of the city that was once used by ISIS to conduct executions and beheadings.

ISIS forces remaining in Sirte have more or less been cornered, but that does not mean they are not dangerous. As has been the case in Iraq, when ISIS loses territory, it can still strike with deadly force through suicide kabooms behind enemy lines.

Bodies of 34 migrants, including 20 children, found in Niger desert
That's one way to reduce competition when the population pressure gets to be a bit much...
[FRANCE24] The bodies of 34 migrants colonists, including 20 children, who were abandoned by people smugglers while trying to reach neighbouring Algeria were found in the Niger desert last week, authorities said Wednesday.

"Thirty-four people, including five men, nine women and 20 children died trying to cross the desert," Niger's interior ministry said in a statement.

"They probably died of thirst, as is often the case, and they were found near Assamaka," a security source told AFP, referring to a border post between Niger and Algeria.

"(The migrants colonists) were abandoned by people smugglers," the statement added, and only two of the bodies have so far been identified -- a man and a 26-year-old woman both from Niger.

Temperatures in the region can reach a brutal 42 degrees Celsius (108 degrees Fahrenheit), with blinding sandstorms tearing across the desert.

The hostile conditions mean that only a fraction of those who die trying to cross the area are ever found.

"A special flight brought 43 Paks who were charged with overstay in the UK ‐ 42 of them were verified by the Ministry of Interior and their further verification was processed at the step of the aircraft. After verifying bio data, they were brought into the international arrivals lounge," the FIA deputy director said.

Their bio data forms and immigration was carried out by the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC).

None of the deportees were allowed to disembark the plane until their verification had been completed.

Southeast Asia
Four Indonesians Jailed over IS-Linked Terror Plot
An Indonesian bombmaker inspired by an Islamic State extremist was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison for plotting to blow up a Buddhist temple on Java island.

The court heard that Ibad, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, received funding and guidance for the attack from Bahrum Naim, a radical Islamist linked to the January suicide attacks in Jakarta that left eight people dead.

Three others -- Sugiyanto, Saifudin and Yus Karman -- were also found guilty of terrorist offenses in a Jakarta court and sentenced to four years and eight months over their role in the failed bomb plot.

Ibad's lawyer said his client had been lured by Naim through social media to carry out an attack. The two had known each other for many years before Naim traveled to Syria and rose to notoriety among Indonesian extremists fighting for the so-called Islamic State group.

"Ibad is Bahrun Naim's childhood friend," the lawyer Kamsi told AFP outside the East Jakarta courtroom.

"Naim lured Ibad to join him by saying it was easy to get a job in Syria, and told him to detonate a bomb in Solo."

Naim sent cash via an Indonesian bank to fund the operation, the court was told. Ibad handled the cash and recruited the others to find a suitable target in Solo, a midsize city on the main island of Java.

The group assembled a bomb but were arrested by police just days before launching their attack.

A sustained crackdown in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority country, weakened many of the most dangerous extremist networks responsible for a string of deadly homegrown attacks during the 2000s.

But the attack in downtown Jakarta earlier this year, the first claimed by IS in Southeast Asia, sparked fears of a resurgence in militancy.

Police alleged Naim masterminded the attack from Syria, where his exact whereabouts remain unknown. Four militants and four civilians died in the coordinated suicide bomb and gun attacks carried out in broad daylight in the Indonesian capital.

Police believe hundreds of Indonesians have traveled to Syria to fight with militant groups including IS.

Air Strikes Target Aleppo Hours into Truce
Air strikes pounded through Syrian Opposition-held parts of Aleppo just hours into an announced 48-hour ceasefire and fighting carried on in and around the northern Syrian city, monitors and witnesses said.

Aleppo, Syria’s largest city before the civil war with a population of more than two million people, has been divided for years into the Opposition and and Bashar al-Assad supporting forces. Capturing the city is one of Assad’s key strategic objectives.

Russia, an ally of Syria, announced the truce there on Thursday but did not name parties who had agreed to it. There has been no public comment on the truce announcement from Assad’s forces or from factions fighting his forces.

The Britain-based monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said aerial bombardments hit a number of neighborhoods in the opposition-held sector and that there were reports of one death and some injuries.

“There were strikes on a number of residential areas causing fires and damage. The truce was supposed to have come into effect at 12 midnight, but now there is no truce,” Bebars Mishal, a civil defense chief working in rebel-held areas of Aleppo said.

Medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said an air strike had put one of Aleppo’s biggest hospitals out of service. It was not immediately clear if strikes had hit the 64-bed MSF-supported Omar Bin Abdulaziz hospital directly or nearby, and the extent of damage remains unknown.

MSF condemned the continued attacks on healthcare in Syria on its Twitter account and said it was “extremely worried about (the) potential impact on people’s access to healthcare” in the city.

Two residents in Aleppo said there had been a number of barrel bombs dropped from helicopters and aerial attacks on Thursday within the city.

The opposition-held part of Aleppo has been cut off in the past two weeks from the outside world as an escalation in air and artillery strikes on the only road in has made journeys perilous and put hundreds of thousands of people under effective siege.

North of Aleppo, air strikes have hit the villages of Anadan, Hayan and Hariyatan. South of Aleppo, ferocious fighting went on between the Syrian Opposition and Assad and allied forces, which include fighters from Lebanese so-called Hezbollah. This area has seen territory lost and gained by both sides this week.

Humanitarian organizations said the fighting was making it impossible to deliver aid. “The longer the fighting continues, the more people will suffer. In Aleppo the situation is already dire and it will get even more difficult,” a spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross said.

Fighting continues in northern Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Clashes broke out on Thursday between Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Islamist fighters in the city of Aleppo, in northern Syria.

The clashes erupted after Islamist fighters of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement and al-Nusra Front [al-Qaeda branch in Syria] tried to infiltrate into the YPG-held Kurdish district of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo.

“Nine Islamists were killed in the clashes, where the YPG repelled their attempt to hit the Kurdish district of Sheikh Maqsoud. Also, fourteen others were wounded and taken hostage by our units,” YPG spokesman Hassan Jammo told ARA News in Aleppo.

On the other hand, at least two YPG fighters and five civilians were reportedly injured in the clashes.

“Al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham started their offensive by firing mortar shells on residential buildings in Sheikh Maqsoud, and then tried to infiltrate into the district from the eastern axis, but our fighters responded by firing heavy machine guns. The extremist groups were eventually forced to withdraw,” the Kurdish official added.

ISIS jihadis crucify civilians for breaking Ramadan fast

ERBIL – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) arrested a number of civilians in Syria’s northeastern Deir ez-Zor province for breaking the Ramadan fast, activists and eyewitnesses reported on Thursday.

The arrestees were publicly flogged then crucified in the city of al-Mayadeen in Deir ez-Zor on Thursday evening.

“The ISIS-led Hisba Police arrested 11 people in Mayadeen for breaking the Ramadan fast. They were flogged with 50 lashes each, and then crucified in the market square downtown,” local media activist Yassir al-Farhan told ARA News.

“Hundreds of people witnessed the brutal punishment. ISIS is trying to terrorise the people through conducting such punishments in public,” the source said.

Eyewitnesses told ARA News that an ISIS official from the Sharia Court of Deir ez-Zor read a statement to the public before flogging and crucifying the victims, saying there is no excuse for any Muslim citizen to break the fast of holy Ramadan.

Similar cases were reported in the city of Abu Kamal, where ISIS militants punished at least eight civilians by crucifying them on electricity poles for deliberately breaking fast.

Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, media activist Saray ad-Din reported that since the start of Ramadan, ISIS brutal crackdown on civilians has mounted in the province.

“According to ISIS rules, every citizen, no matter his/her age or health condition, is obliged to fast Ramadan, otherwise would be punished by flogging and crucifixion,” the local activist said.
