Routine arrest leads Minneapolis police to arsenal
[STARTRIBUNE] Minneapolis police uncovered an arsenal of guns and bomb-making devices during a routine arrest last week.

According to police, a man walked by a parked car in north Minneapolis about 5 p.m. Thursday and confronted the people inside after they threw food wrappers on the ground. They ignored him until he paused to get the car license number. The men then got out of the car and indicated they had guns, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

The man flagged down officers, the complaint says, but the men from inside car continued to yell at him and resisted the officers’ attempts to control the situation. The men were insistent they needed to be near the car because a drone was coming to deliver a package, the complaint said. Because of the suspicious circumstances and fear for the man’s safety, the men were placed in the squad while officers searched their car.

Inside, the officers found a hand grenade, handgun, assault rifles and magazines and a large quantity of ammunition, the complaint said. They also found cellphones, computers and electronics equipment, including drone parts.

Bomb squad personnel called to the scene noted that the large amount of ammunition and electronic devices could be used for bomb-making, the complaint said.

Abdullah N. Alrifahe, 27, of Minneapolis, was charged with a gross misdemeanor for carrying a pistol in public without a permit. In December, he was convicted of the same offense.

It could not be determined whether the FBI or another federal agency is investigating.

Benghazi police emergency unit commander killed: rogue Saiqa members accused
[Libya Herald] A commander of Benghazi’s police emergency response unit, the najdah, was killed in the early hours of the morning when gunnies attacked his vehicle near the unit’s headquarters in the city’s Birkah district.

Captain Musa Yunis al-Majbri, married with three children, is said to have been rubbed out following an altercation with a number of men in a small convoy, some of whom were said to be in military uniform, others in civilian clothing.

Allegations that elements from Saiqa special forces were to blame have been denied by the brigade. In a statement, it says that the killing appears to have been related to a private feud. An investigation has been launched into what happened, it adds. It also warns social media activists against using the story to attack the brigade and trying to cause dissension among those fighting against terrorism.

This was not the first time that a unit of the najdah forces, part of Benghazi Security Directorate, was attacked. There was a similar incident last week, but there were no injuries on that occasion.

Fierce LNA clashes with Benghazi militants, Saiqa arms dump explosion report
[Libya Herald] There have been fierce festivities in Benghazi’s Suq al-Hout district today as the Libyan National Army (LNA) continued to assault hard boy positions. There has also been a series of Arclight airstrikes mainly on Sabri, the city’s second surviving Islamist stronghold and an kaboom at an LNA arms dump.

The LNA has given no details of the fighting nor of casualties on either side. Roads surrounding both the besieged downtown districts remain closed to civilian traffic and troops have been warning residents close to the front lines to leave their homes.

Meanwhile there are unconfirmed reports of a substantial kaboom in the south of the city at a Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
weapons dump. An army source said the blast at Nuwagiya had been caused by the heat. Yet munitions are often poorly stored and in the past this has caused other kabooms.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
sabotage cannot be ruled out. On the eve of the third anniversary celebrations of the start of the Dignity (Karama) operation against Benghazi’s hard boy Islamists, some sort of attempted spectacular attack is expected.

About 1,000 hostages freed from mosque in Central African Republic
[AlAhram] About 1,000 people held hostage since the weekend by armed militias in a mosque amid violent festivities in southeastern Central African Republic have been freed, U.N. officials said on Monday.

"I can confirm that the mosque is now empty. The last 250 men inside until this afternoon have been transferred out," said Herve Verhoosel, front man for the U.N. peacekeeping mission (MINUSCA), by telephone from Bangui.

Women, children and the injured had been set free earlier on Monday before the remaining men were evacuated from the building.

He added that MINUSCA forces had since opened fire on the militias who had been guarding the mosque and had mobilised a helicopter to the town on the Congolese border.

The Bangassou festivities entered their third day on Monday and have involved hundreds of fighters with heavy weaponry in the latest sign that a multi-year conflict spurred by ethnic and religious tensions is worsening.

Armed herdsmen kill 20 farmers in western Nigerian mosque: Police
[AlAhram] Nigerian herdsmen armed with guns killed 20 farmers and injured eight other people in a mosque in the western central Niger state this weekend, police said on Monday.

Fighting over land use between semi-nomadic cattle herders and more settled communities, claims hundreds of lives a year in the middle belt and in the north of Nigeria. Last year, the government said preventing attacks was a security priority.

Bala Elkana, a front man for Niger state police, said the attack happened at about 05:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) on Saturday at Epogi community, in the Mokwa area of the state.

"It was a clash between farmers and herders which had been initially handled but some herders felt unsatisfied and ... they launched a reprisal attack on some villagers praying in a mosque," Elkana said. Three people had been enjugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
, he said.

Nigeria's poor transport and communications infrastructure can slow the speed at which reports of events in some rural communities are passed on.

Armed Islamist gunned down in Dagestan
[Interfax] On Sunday, a member of an illegal armed Islamist group was neutralized in a counter-terrorist operation conducted by Russian security forces in a suburb of Dagestan's capital, Makhachkala, an informed source said.

The source said, "Law enforcers have liquidated a militant who opened fire on them resisting arrest. He is already identified. He turned out an active member of a local jihadist armed group."

The armed group is thought to be either Al-Qaeda-affiliated Imarat Kavkaz (Caucasus Emirate), or Vilayat Dagestan which is a local ISIS affiliate.

Italy busts 'mafia operation' in large migrant center in Calabria
[DW] Over 500 agents took part in the overnight raids that saw 68 people placed in durance vile
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in Calabria, officials said on Monday. The crackdown targeted the suspected members of the Arena crime clan, part of the powerful 'Ndrangheta mafia organization in southern Italia.

According to the Sherlocks, the suspects infiltrated the large migrant reception center at Isola di Capo Rizzuto and siphoned off state funds through the complex, which is linked to a Catholic charity. The local priest Edoardo Scordio was also among the suspects.

"Some 32 million euros ($35 million) went straight into the clan's pocket," assistant prosecutor Vincenzo Luberto said. He added an accusation that Father Scordio had received 150,000 euros for offering "spiritual guidance" to the migrants colonists.

'Money printing' through migrant center
Authorities believe that the Calabrian-based Arena clan has controlled the center for over a decade. The camp's management allegedly fixed contracts for providing food to the migrants colonists and withheld tax payments, according to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

The Mafiosi reportedly set up the scheme with the help of Leonardo Sacco, the local head of the Roman Catholic Misericordia association, which is officially in charge of the Sant'Anna Cara facility.

"The Cara of Isola Capo Rizzuto had become a money-printing operation for organized crime thanks to the complicity of those who ran the center," said head of the Italian parliament's anti-mafia commission, Rosy Bindi.

Through the center in Calabria, the mafia also made connections with two other facilities and the reception center on the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa. Commenting on the Monday arrests, Italia's anti-graft chief Raffaele Cantone said that the mafia infiltration was "just the tip of the iceberg, and certainly not a one-off case."

Paying for 'ghost' migrants colonists
Authorities have long suspected wrongdoing in the Isola Capo Rizzuto camp, which at one time held 1,500 migrants colonists from across the Mediterranean. An inspection in 2013 revealed that refugees were eating small portions of expired food, and that the center was illegally hosting 70 unaccompanied minors in aircraft hangars where there were only two toilets.

A year later, the local prefecture hinted that the number of people in the center might be exaggerated, with management taking money from the state for "ghost" migrants colonists. In 2015, Italia's L'Espresso magazine reported that the managers were stealing funds and making money by starving migrants colonists.

"If the organization was supposed to provide 500 meals, it provided 300 and the rest went hungry," well-known anti-mafia prosecutor Nicola Gratteri said.

The Calabrian-based 'Ndrangheta syndicate is believed to be the most powerful criminal group in Italia and one of Europe's biggest cocaine importers.

Accused bomber Rahimi seeks reduced charges in New Jersey case
[OANN] An Afghan-born U.S. citizen accused of planting bombs in New York and New Jersey fired on police in New Jersey to evade arrest, but those crimes fall short of attempted murder as charged, his defense lawyer argued on Monday.

Ahmad Khan Rahimi,
...the probably Taliban-trained Afghan-American whose various bombs in New York and New Jersey caused havoc, though not nearly as much as he planned, and who for some reason is mostly in our files as Ahmad Khan Rahami. His writings show he was also inspired by Al Qaeda and ISIS...
29, faces a 30-count indictment in New Jersey’s Union County in relation to a kaboom in New York City’s Chelsea district last September that maimed about 30 people. Another bomb in New Jersey injured no one and other devices he is accused of planting did not detonate.

Rahimi also faces a host of federal charges brought by U.S. prosecutors in New York and New Jersey, who have portrayed him as a jihadist who bought bomb components on eBay, praised Osama bind Laden and kept a journal expressing outrage at the U.S. "slaughter" of mujahideen fighters in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Paleostine.

Rahimi, who has pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to all charges, appeared in court shackled at the feet and hands while wearing a blue prison uniform, white skullcap and beard. He appeared to be mouthing verses of the Koran while seated at the defense table.

His state-appointed defense attorney, Peter Liguori, has asked Union County Superior Court Judge Regina Caulfield to dismiss all charges, but in oral arguments he focused mostly on getting three attempted murder charges reduced to aggravated assault in the instances where the coppers were unhurt.

Two other officers were maimed in the shootout, which erupted on the streets of Linden, New Jersey, two days after the bombs detonated. Rahimi was shot between eight and 12 times, Liguori said.

The defense lawyer also asked the judge to drop so-called lesser included offenses, arguing that prosecutors "overcharged" his client.

Turning and firing at a distance and while running to evade arrest did not constitute attempted murder he because it does not show an intent to kill, Liguori said, though he admitted it was criminal conduct more worthy of an aggravated assault charge.

"This is a case where there is emotion, where there is possible prejudice," Liguori said. "His intent was to get away. His intent was to avoid police pursuit ... Running and firing back over your shoulder? Come on."

Twenty-nine shell casings from Rahimi’s gun were recovered at various scenes following the pursuit, prosecutor Ann Luvera said.

The judge said she would issue a written ruling on the defense requests before the end of the month.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants control only nine percent of territories in western Mosul, a spokesperson of the Iraqi command said on Monday as battles reach the group’s final strongholds.

Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasoul, spokesperson of the Joint Operations Command, said Iraqi forces invaded the northern section of 17 Tamuz, the first district Islamic State captured in the city in 2014. He added that only a few number of militants are remaining in the city, suffering scarcity of food and combat supplies.

Meanwhile, Federal Police chief Shaker Jawdat was quoted by al-Arabiya news channel saying his forces killed 173 Islamic State members while invading the Uraybi and Refaie districts. He said forces had also invaded the Ektesadiyeen district.

He said in a statement that police seized the group’s biggest chemical weapons factory run by the group in 17 Tamuz district, defusing several chemical IEDs.

According to Jawdat, 60 senior IS members fled with their families from 17 Tamuz.

Mass Islamic State fighters grave found in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A mass grave of Islamic State members was found Monday at a district retaken by Iraqi security forces in western Mosul as operations to clear the region from militants reach their final stages.

Col. Mortada Hassan, from the Iraqi army, told BasNews that the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service forces found a mass grave containing what are believed to be the relics of 20 members of the Islamic State’s Hisbah (vigilantees) group at al-Haramat.

Hassan said the dead bodies were carried to a forensic authority department.

Islamic State has lost hundreds of fighters and senior leaders since Iraqi troops, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, launched an offensive in October to retake the city. Since the launch of the campaign, dozens of mass graves of civilians and security members executed by IS have been discovered.

Coalition generals say there are less than 1000 IS members remaining in the western side of Mosul where Iraqi generals claim control over more than 90 percent of territories.

21 IS members killed, 3 arrested in airstrikes, special operations in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com)Twenty-one Islamic State members were killed and three others were arrested on Monday in airstrikes and special operations by the Iraqi security forces struggling to recapture the last districts held by the group in western Mosul.

Cap. Abbas al-Babeli, from the Interior Ministry’s Rapid Response Forces, told Shafaaq News website that the army’s Counter-Terrorism Service forces killed nine IS militants and arrested three others in special operations at al-Rifaie district.

Meanwhile, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said Iraqi fighter jets killed 12 IS members and destroyed their booby-trapping and explosives factories in al-Baaj region, west of Mosul and near the borders with Syria.

Paramilitary forces recapture 4 villages near Syrian borders

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi pro-government paramilitary troops recaptured four villages on Monday as an operation continues to clear Islamic State-held regions near Iraq’s borders with Syria.

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said through its media that troops took over Northern Khazna, Sultan, al-Kabar and Tal al-Sheikh villages, south of the Qayrawan region where PMUs, backed by army fighter jets, launched an offensive four days ago against the Islamic State.

PMUs also invaded the village of Mabhal al-Mahdi, north of Qayrawan, engaging in intense encounters with the hard boy group.

A handful of villages have been recaptured over the past few days during the operation targeting Qayrawan and neighboring Baaj. The offensive coincides with parallel government battles in the city of djinn-infested Mosul

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Clashes erupt as Palestinians mark ‘Nakba’ Day
[IsraelTimes] 11 said injured while confronting Israeli forces during protests over ’catastrophe’ of Jewish state’s founding.

Paleostinians marching to remember the "catastrophe" of Israel’s founding and the dispossession that accompanied the creation of the Jewish state clashed with Israeli forces in the West Bank on Monday, leaving several maimed.

Annual marches are held on May 15 to mark what Paleostinians call the "Nakba," or catastrophe in Arabic.

At a checkpoint on the outskirts of Ramallah, dozens of Paleostinian youths hurled rocks at Israeli soldiers, who responded with rubber bullets and the foul-smelling riot control spray known as skunk.

A Paleostinian emergency worker said that 11 Paleostinians were taken to the hospital, most of them maimed by rubber bullets. The extent of their injuries was not known.

Earlier, thousands of people carrying Paleostinian flags marched through the city, many carrying large keys to symbolize their claims to the homes they lost in 1948.

"I come every year to commemorate this anniversary, this catastrophe," said Salha Orabi, a descendant of refugees and now a resident of the nearby Jelazoun refugee camp.

"The Nakba for us symbolizes destruction," he added. "It is us who have left our homes and our land."

In Bethlehem, hundreds of Paleostinians stoned Israeli troops guarding Rachel’s Tomb, a shrine venerated by Jews and Moslems, an AFP photographer said. Soldiers fired tear gas and stun grenades. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

In 1948, more than 760,000 Paleostinians fled or were driven from their homes in the war surrounding Israel’s declaration of independence, when neighboring Arab countries vowed to wipe the nascent Jewish state off the map.

For the Paleostinians, the so called "right of return" for refugees and their millions of descendants to the homes they fled or were forced to leave is a prerequisite for any peace agreement with Israel. All Israeli government have firmly rejected the demand as representing a bid by the Paleostinians to destroy Israel as a Jewish state by demographic means. Paleostinian refugees should be absorbed in a Paleostinian state as part of a peace accord, Israel says, just as Israel absorbed hundreds of thousands of Jews from Middle Eastern and North African countries, many of whom were forced to leave their countries of birth.

The May 15 anniversary came this year against the backdrop of a hunger strike by Paleostinians in Israeli prisons, led by tossed in the clink
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, who is currently serving five life sentences for orchestrating deadly terror attacks against Israelis during the Second Intifada.

In what the Paleostine Liberation Organization said in a statement was a message from his solitary confinement cell, Barghouti said the fast, in its 29th day on Monday, would go on indefinitely.

"My oath and pledge to the prisoners and our people is to pursue the battle for freedom and dignity until it reaches its stated goals," he said.

Palestinian vessels try run Gaza blockade, 1 man wounded killed
[IsraelTimes] Navy gunfire seriously injures 1 man; navy boards 2 boats to detain 6 fishermen.

An Israeli patrol boat fired at Paleostinian fishermen accused of breaching the blockade off the northern Gazoo Strip on Monday, seriously wounding one, officials said.

Fishing off the northern part of the strip, adjacent to Israel, is limited to six nautical miles offshore and the Israeli navy regularly fires at Paleostinians who breach the zone’s outer limit.

The fishermen’s union head Nizar Ayash said that the shooting and the arrest of four crewmen happened in one incident and two more arrests were made when the military boarded another Gazoo boat overnight.

The injured man’s family identified him as Mohammed Majed Bakr, 25.

An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed the shooting but did not speak of additional arrests.

"A vessel deviated from the designated fishing zone in the northern Gazoo Strip," the spokeswoman told AFP. "Naval forces in the area called upon the vessel to halt and fired warning shots into the air."

She said that the boat ignored the warning and the navy then fired at it.

"As a result of the fire a Paleostinian was injured and was evacuated to an Israeli hospital for immediate medical treatment," she added.

Israel has maintained a blockade on Gazoo for 10 years, which it says is necessary to keep arms and other materials that can be used for military purposes out of the hands of Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, and other Paleostinian terror groups.

UN officials have called for the blockade to be lifted, citing deteriorating humanitarian conditions.

The size of the fishing zone has varied over the years, having been set at 20 nautical miles by the Oslo accords of the 1990s before being reduced by Israeli authorities.

About 4,000 fishermen work off the coastal strip, more than half of whom live below the poverty line.

Gaza fisherman shot by navy dies in hospital, IDF says

[IsraelTimes] A Gazook fisherman shot by an Israeli Navy ship on Monday after breaching the blockade off the Paleostinian territory dies from his wounds, an IDF spokeswoman says.

The vessel was reportedly the fourth such ship to breach the blockade on Monday, which Paleostinians mark as "Nakba Day," a day of mourning for the displacement of Paleostinians during Israel’s founding in 1948.

The vessel did not turn back after the warning shots, and the Navy ship shot towards it, wounding the fisherman aboard. Navy sailors took the man to an Israeli hospital, where he died from his wounds.

[Sun Star] Two New People's Army (NPA) militants were killed Saturday in a gun battle with soldiers at Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Military spokeperson Jo-ar Herrera said troops clashed with about thirty militants at around 6 p.m. which also injured two local civilian volunteers.

Herrea said the slain militants were identified only through the aliases "Henry" and "Tibo." Both are said to be members of the NPA's Feliciano Bravo Command operating in Zamboanga del Norte and Sibugay provinces.
Brigadier General Rolly Bautista, commanding general of 1ID, said. “There will be no let up of operations against these bandits in order to protect the people and the communities,” Bautista said.

Last two Abu Sayyaf rebels hiding in Bohol gunned down
[Inquirer] The two remaining Abu Sayyaf militants hiding on the island province of Bohol were killed on Monday afternoon, after more than a month on the run following a foiled attempt to set up a local base.

Abu Ubayda and another member identified only as "Asis" both died from bullet wounds in the head. Ubayda was unrecognizable after he was repeatedly shot in the face. Their deaths ended a crisis that started on April 10 when ten Abu Sayyaf rebels entered Barangay Napo in Inabanga town to set up a terror base there.

Residents tipped off the police about the presence of armed men in their midst. The police, in turn, relayed the information to the military. A clash ensued on April 12, leaving three Abu Sayyaf militants dead, including their leader, Abu Rami.

The remaining members of the group fled to nearby Clarin town and hid inside a cave in Barangay Bacani. But Philippine troops discovered their hiding place on April 22 after receiving a tip from a habal-habal (passenger motorcycle) driver and three residents.

Another firefight broke out, leading to the deaths of four rebels, including Joselito Melloria, a subleader of the group who guided the bandits to his hometown of Inabanga via Barangay Napo.

Another Abu Sayyaf member, Saad Kiram, went out of hiding and asked for food from residents in Tubigon town on May 4. He was arrested and taken to a police camp in Tagbilaran City for interrogation. However, he was killed the next day after he clashed with policemen while trying to escape.

On May 10, the police and the military cordoned off Pangangan Island after receiving reports of the presence of the two remaining Abu Sayyaf bandits.

On Monday morning, Hilario Toloy and his 7-year-old son were gathering seashells along the mangrove forest here when the rebels appeared and pointed their guns at them. The two asked the pair to give them food. Reports said the bandits took Toloy’s son hostage to make sure that he would return with the food.

Toloy went home to Barangay Kahayag, just a few meters from the mangrove area, and brought with him food for the bandits. Meanwhile, Hilario's wife, Imelda, reported to the Kahayag village captain, Ian Bahandi, that her husband and son were being held hostage by the rebels. Bahandi, in turn, reported the matter to the military who went to the mangrove area.

As a shootout broke out, father and son scrambled for safety while the two militants ran to nearby Barangay Lomboy where they took a motorcycle. They headed to Barangay Lawis only to find themselves facing a police checkpoint. They abandoned the motorcycle and ran, returning to the mangrove area in Lawis. Troops pursued them and cornered them in the mangrove area, where the militants were killed in separate areas.

murderous Moslems spearheaded an attack on the al-Azib valley near the Ithriya-Khanasser road in a bid to cutoff the only highway connecting Aleppo with the government mainland of central Syria.

According to al-Masdar News field correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh, festivities erupted at 2 a.m. and continued until 6 a.m when ISIS finally called of its attack which was focused around the al-Majbal checkpoint.

For ISIS commanders, their offensive ultimately looked to relieve pressure on the Maskanah Plains where the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) recently liberated the highly fortified Jirah Airbase in a renewed push towards Raqqa.

Following the jihadist attack, ISIS sustained 15 casualties some of which were retrieved by the SAA. On the other hand, 2 SAA soldiers were killed-in-action while two more were maimed.
Presumably either the above report or the below report is true, but not both.
