Afghanistan
Explosion in a house leaves 5 militants dead in Ghazni
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least five Lions of Islam were killed in a premature bomb kaboom in southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the incident has taken place recently in a remote part of the restive Andar district.

A statement by MoD said the bully boyz were busy manufacturing Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a house belonging to an individual identified as Abdullah when the incident took place.
*sigh* That whole red wire/green wire thingy is such a problem when the apprentice has colour blindness in the family...
The statement further added that the house is located in Kansif area of Andar district and the bully boyz were looking to place the IEDs on a roadside when it went off, leaving five of them dead.

The anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups including the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Lions of Islam have not commented regarding the incident so far.

The Taliban Lions of Islam frequently use IEDs as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government officials but in majority of such incidents the ordinary civilians are targeted.

The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UANAMA) released its latest civilian casualties report last month, covering a period of three months since the start of 2017.

According to the report, the Anti-Government Elements caused 62 per cent of civilian casualties ‐ 1,353 civilian casualties (447 dead and 906 injured), reflecting a five per cent increase compared to the same period in 2016.

The UN mission also added it recorded a 12 per cent increase in civilian casualties caused by pressure-plate improvised bombs ‐ 218 civilian casualties (86 dead and 132 injured).

7 demonstrators killed as clashes erupt at Kabul anti-government protest
[ALMASDARNEWS] Seven people were reportedly killed in Kabul as demonstrators clashed with riot police during a protest demanding the resignation of Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
, Friday.

The action follows the deadly boom-mobile blast that claimed the lives of at least 80 people and maimed over 350 in the Afghan capital on Wednesday morning.

Protesters gathered in Zanbaq Square, where the blast took place, holding anti-government banners and chanting against terrorism. Demonstrators scuffled with security forces as they tried to reach the presidential palace.

Police was heard firing shots in the air and allegedly also tear gas in order to quell the uprising.

The boom-mobile went kaboom! on Wednesday in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul where a number of embassy buildings are situated.

No group has yet grabbed credit for the attack.

France says troops killed 20 militants in northern Mali
[DW] La Belle France's defense ministry has said its troops took several combatants "out of action" in operations against jihadist groups in Mali this week. The assault also resulted in the seizure of weapons and other equipment.

Soldiers taking part in La Belle France's counterterror mission in northern Mali clashed with Islamist snuffies this week, taking out around 20 fighters, French officials said on Friday.

Soldiers involved in Operation Barkhane, the French military mission operating in the Sahel region

, deployed Tiger attack helicopters and Mirage 2000 jets during the operations.

"About 20 terrorist have been taken out and following searches the army has seized individual and collective weapons," the French defense ministry said in a statement.

In addition to weapons, munitions and other equipment were seized during the operations which began on Sunday and ended on Thursday.

The statement added that this week's operations coupled with other operations carried out with Mali and Burkina Faso

forces had "produced intelligence on operations by armed terrorist groups in the region."

Four French soldiers were maimed when mortar struck an Operation Barkhane camp outside Timbuktu on Thursday. One day prior, three Malian soldiers were killed in an ambush.

Arabia
Houthis recruit 25 child soldiers
Taiz – Houthi and Saleh militias recruited 25 children from Mahweet during the past months and got them involved in conflict fronts in Taiz, Midi and Nihm, said Mahweet Human Rights Organization.

The organization monitored that Mahweet – ruled by Saleh and Houthi militias – has underwent 451 violations by insurgents against civilians during May, including raiding villages and houses, kidnapping and recruiting children and displacing households.

Media Almahweet Center saw that the militias’ recruiting of a huge number of children indicates its shortage of human power due to the two-year war.

A statement by Mahweet Human Rights Organization revealed that insurgents have kidnapped 116 civilians, with 34 being physically and psychologically tortured, despite 11 others who are deliberately hidden and no one knows their place of detention.

Insurgents have been inciting killing, have disturbed 112 people, stalked media, raided three villages and three houses and displaced 11 households, according to the statement. It added that up to 40 state and private institutions are still under occupation while 12 others were transformed into barracks, while 17 schools for memorizing Quran were shut down.

Mahweet Human Rights Organization called on local and foreign organizations to “visit Houthi and Saleh insurgent militias prisons in Mahweet to check over the kidnapped and arrested and to take a closer look at the violations that can’t be discovered by the organization.”

It concluded in its statement that the mentioned violations are the ones that the organization managed to monitor and archive and that there are other violations that were not disclosed because of the militias’ pressure and their tension from any impartial rights act or professional media act.

2 Soddy fugitives dies in explosion in Qatif
Qatif- Two wanted men were killed in a vehicle explosion on Thursday in Qatif, near Mayas Market.

The blast occurred one hour before the iftar and killed the two men who are wanted for their involvement in various terrorist cases and for targeting two security patrols.

A witness told Asharq Al-Awsat that the vehicle blasted near Mayas Market in Qatif, causing huge panic before the iftar on the sixth day of Ramadan especially that the place has witnessed in 2016 a similar terrorist act.

The blast caused no human or material damage other than the vehicle and the two individuals who were about to get inside it – the explosion occurred in the same region that was targeted by ISIS on May 5 2016 in a failed attack.

Saudi authorities defied a terrorist group in Awwamiya that has attempted to disrupt the development movement in Mosawara, east Saudi Arabia, by firing on the laborers during their work and on the security men simultaneously.

Shi’ite clerks in Qatif called on those involved to drop their weapons – a statement was signed by eight clerks who urged the region’s sheikhs to make it clear in their sermons and statements that they denounce violence and the use of arms against the state or citizens.

The statement called on Awwamiya men and elite to play an active role in putting an end to this suffering.

UAE denounced the terrorist attack that targeted security and stability in Qatif, east Saudi Arabia. UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement to condemn “this terrorist attack that aimed at shaking security and stability of the kingdom.”

The ministry further hailed the kingdom’s efforts in defying terrorism in all its forms, stressing UAE’s full support to the kingdom and backing its procedures taken against extremism and terrorism. It also underscored that Saudi Arabia’s security and stability are the backbone of the Arabian Gulf.

Britain
BREAKING: Terror attacks reported at, around London Bridge
[Telegraph] London Bridge has been placed on lockdown amid reports of three men carrying knives attacking people and up to 20 have reportedly been struck by a van. Armed police are at the scene in what is being described as a “major incident”, possibly a terrorist attack.

Witnesses described a white van mounting the curb and hitting as many as up to 20 people on the bridge. The incident happened at 10:30pm on Saturday. A cabbie on the bridge has reported he saw a stabbing man.

Members of the public have been warned to stay away from the area, and the busy London Bridge subway station has been closed.

Several eyewitness accounts have emerged which suggest there have been multiple casualties, with bodies strewn across the pavement. Twitter uses have also reported a stabbing and shots being fired in the area, though this remains unconfirmed.

One woman told the Sun, "We had to run there was loads of shooting".

According to one report 15-20 people were hurt after the car ploughed into them. There were also reports that somebody had run into a restaurant and stabbed two people.
Note: The Telegraph is liveblogging, and has already updated. Go to the link for the latest, which no doubt is not included here. As of 7:00 pm EDT:

#17  Phil_b: You might be right, there were reports of a person carrying a cannister, and they were running into and out of bars stabbing people. Early reports have police rushing into bars, keeping people down and safe. Also as time goes on, reports of people claiming Gunfire and Machetes.

Oh, and explosions on London Bridge.

Double oh, they caught the Cannister man according to the Liveblog. So there might be something to the gunfire reports too. Even have a picture of the guy!

#33  Mike Rowley, Assistant Commissioner at Scotland Yard, just gave a statement. In short, three suspects were shot and killed, SAS and police ate hunting for one more terrorist. Six people were killed and 20 injured.

Nothing about the fourth suspect. Also reported elsewhere is that a bystander was shot in the head by police. No word if he's one of the six dead or what.

#35  #32 Phil, this is not like the movies or TV. Police, as a rule, are trained to make 'body mass' shots as many, if not most, of the readers here know. "Body mass' mean the heart. when heart is shot, heart has this tendency to stop, from shock if nothing else. Stopped heart does not pump blood, Un-pumped blood tend to remain in body. therefore no blood pool.

AHh I just read the above and if it sounds condescending, please accept my apologies as that is not my intention.

#37  #34 Charles, I noticed that too, there were reports of five men, three of which went on to Borough Market and was later shot by the police. Unknown where the other two went, I suspect one may have been shot by police on London Bridge and the other is who knows where at this point.

People saying that some of the suspects had guns. Police are not saying anything. I'm chalking this up to 'fog of war'. I'm sure we will know more in the after-report.

And if that person was trained to use the gun. I'm amazed by how many gun owner cannot shoot straight to save their life. I'm thinking New York City police.

The Metropolitan Police OTOH (and Scotland Yard as well, not sure about other UK police department, but suspect attitude is similar) seems to take carrying a gun very seriously and train the heck out of the gun carrying officers but br really good with the guns if they have to use it.

Prosecutors charge 30-year-old Belgian national over Paris, Brussels attacks
[DW] Belgian prosecutors have charged a 30-year-old in connection with terror attacks in Gay Paree and Belgium. The suspect is related to others implicated in the attacks.

Named as Yassine A., the 30-year-old Belgian national has been formally charged following a "judicial inquiry" into the 2015 Gay Paree attacks for his involvement in murders of a terrorist nature and being a member of a terrorist group.

In a statement on Friday, the Office of the Federal Prosecutor in Belgium said a pre-trial chamber in Brussels ordered a one-month detention after Yassine A. was charged with "terrorist liquidations" and of being "a leader in the activities of a terrorist group."

Extremist suspects have their cases reviewed monthly until their trials; such periods of custody are almost always extended.

Related to jacket wallahs
Yassine A. was a cousin of two suicide bombers, the brothers Ibrahim and Khalid Bakraoui, who attacked Zaventem airport and the Maalbeek metro station in Brussels, killing 32 people and leaving more than 320 maimed in March 2016.

He was jugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
just days after the Brussels attacks and found in possession of keys to a hideout used by the bombers who carried out the attacks in both Brussels and Gay Paree, Belgian broadcaster RTL reported.

The defendant is also the brother of one of the supposed leaders of the Gay Paree attacks, Oussama Atar, who is believed to be based in Syria.

In November 2015, gunnies and bombers in Gay Paree targeted the Bataclan concert venue, the national soccer stadium and sidewalk cafes, leaving 130 dead and 368 people injured, 100 of them seriously.
Ynet adds:
The 30-year-old Belgian national, Yassine Atar, has been charged with "terrorist liquidations" and of being "a leader in the activities of a terrorist group."
The Daily Mail adds this tidbit:
Yassin Atar's older brother Oussama, 32, was held for five years between 2005 and 2010 in various jails across Iraq, including the notorious Abu Ghraib. It is believed he has personally met ISIS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...

Sweden: High School Girls Called ‘Racist’ After Complaining about Sexual Assault by Migrants
[THEGATEWAYPUNDIT] Sixteen girls at a high school in Sweden were called racist after they complained about the recent sexual assaults by migrants colonists. Fria Tider reported, via Religion of Peace:

Lecturer and journalist Joakim Lamotte has had enough. Now he has visited another school where maidens tell of how they are sexually assassinated by so-called refugee children.

But when the girls try to address the problem of principals and school staff, they are called racists.

"Many of these guys are not even children!" Lamotte calls in a new video.

Joakim Lamotte is an independent journalist who lectures at schools about women’s and sexual harassment. He has previously worked on SVT and Mission review.

"Now I have been to another school where maidens tell them to be sexually assassinated by newly arrived boys both at school and outside school. They say they do not feel safe in the school corridors. They say they have left home after school. They say they do not go by bus themselves. They say they do not go back and forth to their soccer classes in the evenings themselves, explains an upset Joakim Lamotte in a video on his Facebook.

for reengaging in terrorism. His name is Sabir Mahfouz Lahmar and his Department of Defense (DOD) file says he has links to "multiple terrorist plots" and as a member of the Algerian Armed Islamic Group (GIA) plotted with Al Qaeda to attack the United States Embassy in Sarajevo.

"Detainee advocated hostilities against US forces and the international community in Bosnia, and is linked to multiple terrorist plots and criminal related activity," according to Lahmar’s DOD file. "Detainee had intentions to travel to Afghanistan and Iran, and is reported as doing so prior to his capture. Detainee has demonstrated a commitment to jihad, and would likely engage in anti-US activities if released." Lahmar ended up at Gitmo in 2002 because the Algerian government refused to take him into custody after Bosnian authorities exhausted the legal limits for detention. The Pentagon recommended continued detention and determined that he was a high risk that posed a threat to the U.S., its interests and allies. Lahmar was also labeled a "high threat" from a detention perspective and of high intelligence value.

Rock Am Ring evacuated: German music festival suspended due to 'terrorist threat'
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] Police in Germany have evacuated the Rock Am Ring music festival after receiving a terror threat.

The major event was cleared out on Friday evening after police in the nearby city of Koblenz said they had received information about a "concrete threat".

"Due to a terrorist threat the police have advised us to interrupt the festival," organisers said on the festival website.

Around 90,000 music fans were expected to attend the annual three-day event by the end of the weekend.

The German band Rammstein was the Friday night headliner, but hadn't yet started playing.

Festival organisers say they hope to be able to go ahead with the programme Saturday.

"The public reacted fantastically," organiser Marek Lieberberg said.

Festival-goers were told to move to the camping area after being told of the evacuation.

Authorities took the precautionary measure less than two weeks after 22 people were killed as they left an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.
Update at 2:30 p.m. EDT:
German rock festival to resume after terror scare

[IsraelTimes] Germany’s biggest rock festival will resume after being disrupted by fears of a possible "terrorist threat" which have proved to be unfounded, the organizers said Saturday. Police told AFP searches at the three-day "Rock am Ring," held near the southwestern city of Koblenz were over.

Some 90,000 people are expected to attend the event which ends on Sunday.

"After a series of intensive searches across the site the fears of an imminent danger were not confirmed," the organizers said.

"The police gave the go-ahead" for the festival to restart they said, without specifying when the event would resume.

Indian shelling leaves two dead, six hurt in AJK
[DAWN] Pakistan on Thursday condemned India’s deliberate act of targeting civilians in Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK) as two people were killed and six others, including four women, suffered injuries in unprovoked and intense Indian firing from across the Line of Control (LoC).

"India’s deliberate targeting of civilians is condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights

and humanitarian laws," said Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson M. Nafees Zakaria in a tweet after the casualties took place in different villages of AJK’s southern Poonch district.

"The Indian troops started shelling in Battal sector at about 7am without any provocation, targeting civilian population with small arms and mortars," Poonch Deputy Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz told Dawn.

He said that two men, one in his late 20s and the other in mid-60s, bit the dust to "intense" shelling from across the divide.

He identified the victims as Ghazar Ahmed of Kakuta village and Sardar Fazal Ahmed of Darra Sher Khan village.

Those injured -- Malick Mohammad Jamil and Syeda Faria Kabir in Battal village, Qazi Mohammad Safeer and Jabeen Mehboob in Lachyal village, Taiba Hanif in Rakkar village and Nasreen Akhtar in Mandhol village -- had been hospitalised, he said.

Iraq
Kurds rescue girl from Iranian militias in Kirkuk
[ARA News] Lahur Talabani, director of the Kurdish Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) in Iraqi Kurdistan, said on Friday that the CTG and the PUK-linked intelligence agency Zanyari have rescued a girl from the Shia paramilitary Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) in Kirkuk province.

“The CTG forces remain committed to assisting everyone in Kirkuk, regardless of religion, ethnicity, political affiliation and social status,” he said.

“The young girl was rescued and returned safely to her family this morning. Three men, including ringleader, have been arrested and are in police custody,” the top Kurdish official said.

“Extremely proud of Zanyari Agency and CTG forces who worked tirelessly to rescue 6yr old Turkman girl kidnapped in Kirkuk by Shia militia,” he said.

In the last few years, clashes took place on several occasions between the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the Shia PMU forces in northern Iraq, mainly in Tuz Khurmato.

Karim Nouri, the spokesperson of the PMU, has ruled out a future war between the Kurds and the PMU.

During a conference at the American University of Sulaimani in March, Nouri said: “The PMU and the Peshmergas have fought together, our Kurdish brothers do not need to fear conflict.”

“The Kurds have to be sure that even in the future there won’t be any attacks,” he said.

“In Sinjar, they were supporting us, and holding our flags. We tell our Kurdish brothers there is nothing to fear,” he said, mentioning joint cooperation between the PMU and the Peshmerga forces against ISIS in Sinjar, Mosul, Jalawla, Amerli and Bashir.

Many Kurds argued that once the war against ISIS is over, heavy clashes could break out between the PMU and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

However, after the start of the Mosul operation there was more coordination between Baghdad and Kurdish forces.

In the meantime, the Kurdish government said that the recent move of the PMU towards the Syrian border and the PMU intervention into several Yezidi villages were in violation of previous agreements between Erbil and Baghdad.

6 ISIS Bad Guys die fighting Iranian militia near Baaj
Baaj (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi paramilitary forces continued operations to clear the borders with Syria from militants on Friday, killing six members of the Islamic State, including a senior leader.

A statement by al-Hashd al-Shaaib (Popular Mobilization) said through its media service that forces had killed six members of the Islamic State’s commando forces, including Hassan Kanahs al-Zebeidi, a senior leader, at Matallat al-Markeb village near the borders with Syria.

Earlier on Friday, the media outlet said mobilization forces recaptured one village near the borders.

Coincidently with government troops’ operations in Mosul, army warplanes have been backing PMU operations against IS holdouts near the Syrian borders, most notably at the Qairawan and Baaj regions. Mobilization commanders had said thei recaptured Qairawan and continue currently to clear Baaj, recently announcing they reached the borderline and revealing plans to hand over security at that region to Iraqi police forces.

Speculations have emerged that the Iran-trained mobilization forces could seek to link up with forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is also fighting an Islamic State insurgency, by crossing the borders into Syria. Mobilization officials have, however, assured they would not take the step without an Iraqi legislature decision.

Iraqi forces have been approaching IS’s last entrenchment in western Mosul in the Old City since earlier late April. Operations to recapture western Mosul launched on February 19th. Eastern Mosul was liberated in January.

500 ISIS troops trapped in Mosul
Mosul (IraqiNews.com) The number of Islamic State fighters remaining in western Mosul’s Old City stands at 500, an officer from the Iraqi Federal Police forces said Friday as security operations proceed towards the strategic enclave.

Radio Sawa quoted Lt. Cap. Abdulah Taha saying that IS fighters have been shifting locations swiftly across the Old City’s narrow streets and houses in order to give impression to assaulting troops that their numbers were much higher.

On Thursday, a Pentagon spokesperson said there were less than 1000 IS fighters in the Old City, Islamic State’s last bastion in Mosul.

On Friday, the Federal Police also said in a statement it killed Islamic State’s Hisbah (vigilantism) official in western Mosul, nicknamed Abu Abdul-Rahman, but did not identify his nationality. It also said forces took over 40 percent of Zanjili district, one area leading to the Old City.

Iraqi forces retook eastern Mosul in January and have taken more than 90 percent of the western side since another offensive was launched for that region in February.

Since late April, Iraqi forces took up a northwestern axis for its operations heading towards the Old City, having besieged the the area from the south for weeks. Troops are currently bombarding IS locations at al-Zanjili, Shefa and Sihha districts which surround the Old City. Forces are eyeing the Nuri al-Kabir Mosque where the group’s supreme leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, declared the establishment of a “caliphate” in Iraq and neighboring Syria.

Nearly 200.000 civilians are thought to be stranded inside the area under IS siege, and are regularly shot dead once trying to flee, according to government and aid agencies.

Iraqi warbirds wreck oil facilities in Hawija
Hawija (IraqiNews.com) A security source in Kirkuk Province revealed, on Thursday, that coalition air strike destroyed an oil warehouse and 12 tanks belonging to the Islamic State group in Hawija Province, west of the province, Alsumaria News reported.

The source said that the international coalition aircraft bombarded, today, the Islamic State’s crude oil market area, in al-Shameet area in Hawija District.

The air strike destroyed 12 oil tanks and one of the group’s largest crude oil warehouses, the source added on condition of anonymity.

Noteworthy, Hawija District and the areas of al-Zab, al-Rashad, al-Riyad and al-Abbasi, southwest of Kirkuk, are still controlled by the Islamic State group, since 10 June 2014.

Iraqi soldier dies in bombing attack in Radwaniya

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) One Iraqi army soldier was killed and another was wounded on Friday when an explosive device went off in western Baghdad, according to a police source.

“The bomb exploded in Radwaniya and targeted an Iraqi army patrol,” Alsumaria News quoted the source saying.

Violence and armed conflicts left 824 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of May, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths. Baghdad alone sustained 86 deaths and 226 injuries, according to UNAMI.

Baghdad has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary groups and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake IS-occupied areas in 2016. While most of of the explosions went without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State has claimed several blasts.

The Iraqi government, currently focused on ousting the group from Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, is expected to aim at other IS holdouts.

Some security observers believe that even after IS’s main havens across Iraqi provinces are conquered, the group may still constitute a security threat through sleeper cells and lone wolf attacks. They believe attacks outside Mosul are designed to make up for the group’s losses there.

4 ISIS Bad Guys have a Very Bad Day in Kirkuk
Kirkuk (IraqiNew.com) Warplanes from the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State have killed four members of the group in southern Kirkuk, a source said on Friday.

Fighter jets, the source told Alsumaria News, pounded several IS locations in Arab Kawaz, Taza and Daqouq regions (355 km south of Kirkuk). The strikes left four militants dead and 12 others wounded, according to the source.

IS members have been in control over a handful of regions in southwest Kirkuk, most notably the town of Hawija, since 2014, when the group came to the scene, took over several Iraqi regions and proclaimed an Islamic “caliphate”.

Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, launched an offensive in October to retake the city of Mosul, Islamic State’s largest urban stronghold in Iraq. The Iraqi government is planning to aim at other IS havens across Iraq after Mosul.

Local officials in Hawija have repeatedly urged the government to hasten with the liberation of their town.

Since taking over Iraqi regions, Islamic State members have executed dozens of civilians, security members and many of its own members for various reasons ranging from collaboration with security forces to attempting to flee areas under the group’s control, most notably Hawija.

Palestinian Women's Center Refuses to Drop Terrorist's Name
[LI] Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) has reported that the village council of Burqa will not budge on their decision to name a women’s center after terrorist Dalal Mughrabi. The UN lashed out at the center for glorifying a terrorist and Norway demanded a refund of its donations to the center, as we previously reported.

According to PMW, village council head Sami Daghlas hails Mughrabi a hero. After all, she took part in a massacre that killed 37 people, including 12 children:

"The center has no intention of caving in to the pressure and change its name, the head of village’s council, Sami Daghlas, said... He said the name Dalal Mughrabi was chosen by the villagers to commemorate a Palestinian hero (emphasis added, Ed.) who sacrificed herself for her country and therefore they have no intention to change its name regardless of the price."

'SilentHawk' Stealth Dirt Bike
[Popular Science] A dirt bike is a tool for getting a person to a place they shouldn't be. Lightweight, made for rough terrain, and fast, motorcycles allow special forces to slip through woods, navigate narrow canyons, sneak through alleyways, or hurtle down footpaths. There's only one problem: dirt bikes are really, really loud, so any secrecy gained by using a bike is lost to the engine's roar. Which is why DARPA, the Pentagon's future projects wing, is funding the development of a versatile electric dirt bike, so that special forces can have as silent a ride as possible on two powered wheels. The bike is called "SilentHawk," and after receiving the first prototype, DARPA liked to so much they asked for two more.

SilentHawk is a collaboration between Logos Technologies, which makes military tools like drones and sensors, and Alta Motors, which makes electric dirt bikes. Creating a silent motorcycle meant starting from an electric bike. As designed, one modification of the SilentHawk uses a hybrid engine, so it can run on gas most of the time, and on electricity when it needs to be quiet. And it's not limited to gas: It's can run on diesel, as well as JP5 and JP8 jet fuels, so that the special forces using it in the field can power it with whatever fuel they might encounter. When running on fuel, the SilentHawk recharges its own batteries and any electronic devices the troops might have, like radios, GPS receivers, or tablets.

Southeast Asia
Video and map of battle of Marawi
From May 30, but a useful overview of how it all started. Useful video adds visuals to the text below, which they would have us know is the intellectual property of Oz Analysis.
[AlMasdar] The Wahhabi terrorist internationale known as the Islamic State has spread its domain of armed occupation to the Philippine city of Marawi. On the 23rd of May, two Jihadist factions – the Maute group and Abu Sayyaf militia – operating on the Philippine island of Mindanao under the banner of ISIS launched a shock attack on Marawi, a predominately Muslim city of 220,000 people. The assault came about with the sudden uprising of a battalion-sized sleeper cell inside the city which sent government forces into total disarray. For the presentation to follow, OZ Analysis would like to thank Al-Masdar News Deputy CEO Chris Tomson for his cooperation – via personal communication – in the understanding of the military situation in Marawi, as an exceptionally informed source.

What began with the activation of some five hundred ISIS-linked sleeper troops in the area of the provincial jail and main police station resulted in the releasing of an unknown number of prisoners who will undoubtedly be recruited by the terrorist conglomerate and the capture and looting of the city’s main armoury. With this achieved, ISIS spread towards the centre of the city, laying siege to the Pakpak Hospital and the City Hall, and into the eastern suburbs, isolating the city harbour.

After a full day of gunfights, government forces (including both local police and the army) outnumbered and unable to consolidate any tenable positions in Marawi were driven in rout from the city. With the seizure of Marawi’s main infrastructures and the establishment of a number of checkpoints throughout the city, ISIS de facto conquered the rump of Marawi.

After consolidating itself over the main part of Marawi, ISIS forayed beyond the city limits, launching threatening attacks in the direction of the Mindanao State University and southwestern suburbs. Government forces were able to parry these attacks. However, ISIS did at some point establish a guerrilla-style presence in the countryside to the southwest of Marawi where it continues to harass the main communication line used by government forces with snipers and hit-and-run attacks. This has, to a degree, compromised the ability of government forces to reinforce and resupply their presence on the outskirts of the city. It also serves to demoralise government troops before they reach the frontlines around Marawi.

In recent days, government forces have regrouped and launched a counter-offensive into the western and southern sectors of Marawi. During this time airstrikes have been observed in and around the habour area. Whilst it must be said that overall disposition of government and ISIS forces within the city remains vague due to contradictory reports; what can be more or less confirmed is government forces have since liberated the Pakpak Hospital and the City Hall. No reports have appeared which indicate that the provincial jail or the police station have yet been retaken from ISIS and indeed these locations will likely become final strongpoints as ISIS is expunged from the city. Furthermore, it is possible that ISIS has either abandoned or been forced out of Marawi’s eastern suburbs. However, in the meantime, this analysis will assume that ISIS remains in the area until better information is available.

Overall, the last couple days has shown that government forces have recovered from the initial shock of the ISIS attack on Marawi and, through a series of containment actions and counterattacks, now appear to hold the strategic initiative in the battle for the city.

Iranian militias enter Syria
[ARA News] Iraq’s Iran-backed Popular Mobilisation Units (PMU) on Friday crossed the border into Syria. This comes despite repeated warnings by the Kurdish YPG leadership and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Kurdish-led SDF troops warned that any movement by the PMU towards the Syrian northeastern border would lead to undesired tensions.

As the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continue their war on ISIS in northern Syria, the Iranian-supported PMU has been locked in fierce fighting against ISIS at the Iraqi side of the border.

Fighters of the Iraqi Shia paramilitary PMU entered villages in the Kurdish-led Hasakah province, in northeastern Syria, local sources confirmed to ARA News.

Members of the Popular Mobilisation Units have reportedly crossed the border into Syria’s Hasakah, moving into the villages of Quseba al-Soritin and Bawardi.

“The move led to the displacement of hundreds of civilians from the two villages for fear of possible clashes between the PMU and the Kurdish forces,” media activist Azad Sleman told ARA News in Hasakah.

This comes just two days after the PMU spokesman Karim al-Nouri said that their fighters are ready to cross into Syria and back the Assad government in its fight against terrorism.

According to the PMU spokesman, a remarkable shift has taken place in the nature of the fight against the ISIS as the group nears losing its final holdouts in Iraq’s northwestern Mosul city.

“By taking the border area, we have given the Syrian army the ability to comfortably advance on Raqqa,” Nouri added.

However, the Kurdish-led SDF forces have launched a major offensive against ISIS in Raqqa. The US-backed forces imposed a siege on ISIS militants inside the city, which is deemed a de facto capital for the ISIS self-proclaimed Caliphate.

On Monday, the Kurdish Security Police of the Rojava Asayish held a meeting in Qamishli city, in northeastern Syria, to discuss the ‘Iranian project’, after the Iraqi Shia paramilitary Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) linked up with areas held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Asayish said in a statement that a broad security meeting was held in Qamishli in the presence of the general commander of the Asayish forces, Ciwan Ibrahim, to discuss the formation of a defence system in Rojava-Northern Syria ‘to confront the Iranian project’ that is supported by the Baath regime forces and affiliated Shia groups.

According to the PMU, they reached the Iraq-Syria borders from the north of al-Ba’ah district, and from an area near Sinjar. The PMU said that the Wadi al-Midar and Taru villages [in northwestern Iraq] were liberated from ISIS, adding that 21 ISIS fighters were killed in the operation backed by the Iraqi air force.

Qasim Musla, brigadier general of PMU group Liwaa Al-Toufouf, told ARA News that the Iraqi air cover facilitated their progress against ISIS near the border with Syria.

Kurdish forces on the brink of cutting off last ISIS supply line to Raqqa
[ALMASDARNEWS] Amid new advances in rural Raqqa, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are now within striking distance of the last ISIS supply route from the jihadist mainland to its self-declared capital.

Following the liberation of a dozen villages over the previous 48 hours, the largely Kurdish SDF managed to impose full control over the village of Ath-Thadyayn southwest of Raqqa on Thursday, thus cementing its siege of a tiny ISIS pocket around the junction town of al-Mansurah.

At least 19 ISIS Death Eaters were killed during the festivities while dozens of RPG’s and tons of ammunition were seized, Kurdish sources said.

If exploring pincer advances similar to previous stages of the Euphrates Wrath offensive, the SDF is expected to close off a 20 kilometer stretch of ISIS-held rural territory south of Raqqa before initiating the urban battle for the city itself.

(ISIS). Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army began the day by storming the southwestern countryside of the Maskanah Plain; this would result in the capture of eight villages, including al-Hamra, and Jubb al-Hammam.

In addition to the liberation of these villages, the Syrian Arab Army also captured the Faysal Bridge after a short battle with the Islamic State.

ISIS Hunters repel ISIS assault along Homs-Palmyra highway
[ALMASDARNEWS] The ISIS Hunter units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled a surprise attack conducted by fighters of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (ISIS) along the Homs Palmyra highway. The fierce attack targeted positions of the ISIS Hunters at height 681 but was toppled by the swift reaction of the SAA’s forces, holding their ground.

According to the ISIS Hunter’s media channel, the aussault started in the early hours of Tuesday with mortar shelling, that was followed by an attempt of the jihadist fighters equipped with heavy machine guns and RPGs to storm the position.

Combing the battle site later at dawn the successfull defenders found multiple corpses of ISIS Death Eaters and could even capture one of the attackers alive, who was maimed in his stomach. Provided with medical assistance the jihadist was willing to give informations about the purpose of the ISIS attack.

He told his captors, that it was part of a reconaissance mission, supposed to gather intel for a planned offensive, destined to recapture Tiyas airbase and further advance to the gas fields at al-Faraqlas. Effictively this operation would, if ISIS was to succeed, once again throw back the SAA’s efforts to secure the area around Palmyra and advance to Deir Ezzor, because it would cut the highway connecting Homs with Palmyra.

Control of this highway is important for the supply of troops at the frontlines, but recently the SAA succeeded in reopening the route from Damascus to Palmyra. With this additional supply line an ISIS advance to Tiyas, would not necessarily bring the SAA offensive in the region to a halt.
