[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan Military in the North says the Farah city has been fully cleared of the Talibs but clearance operations are still being conducted to ensure the remaining turbans are eliminated.

The source further added that the civilians have not been harmed during the operations and no government infrastructure or compound has received any damages.

A front man for the Chief Executive Javid Faisal also confirmed that the holy warriors have been fully driven out of the city.

Provincial governor Abdul Basir Salangi confirmed that the holy warriors were driven out of the city in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to Salangi, at least twenty people including several security personnel have bit the dust during the festivities with the Taliban

Kirkuk Election Excitements: family shot by unknown gunman, siege of election employees denied

Iraqi child killed, father injured as Kurds celebrate election win

Kirkuk (Iraqinews.com) – A four-year-old child was killed while his father was wounded after unidentified gunmen opened fire at them during Kurdish celebrations of election win.

“The child and his parents were found inside their own car in the Shorja neighborhood in northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk with the father suffering from a fatal shot and the mother going into a coma. Their child, 4, was killed in the attack,” a security source told Baghdad Today.

The slain child was identified as Harim Ghonbar Mohamed Amin, the source pointed out.

Iraqi security deny siege on election employees in Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security officials have denied news that election employees were trapped in Kirkuk by armed groups, saying that government forces are in control.

Maan al-Saadi, a senior security official assigned with law enforcement in Kirkuk, said in a statement that the Counter-Terrorism Service remains in charge of securing ballot boxes, stressing that the situation in the province was “stable and there is no need for worrying”.

Earlier in the day, Riyad al-Badran, a senior official at the High Elections Commission, said employees in Kirkuk were taken hostage by political groups, which caused the ballot boxes there to be blocked from the commission’s main office in Baghdad.

Kirkuk has seen tensions since the Iraqi parliamentary elections were held last Saturday, with Arabs and Turkmen opposing the results which showed the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan leading the results.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, initially calling for respect for results nationwide, later stated it was permissible to recount the votes manually in Kirkuk to address objections.

Kirkuk, with a mixed Kurdish, Arab and Turkmen population, has been at the heart of sovereignty disputes between the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region authorities. Iraqi troops took over the province in October in response to a local referendum in which Kurds voted for independence from Iraq.

More fallout from recent events

Israeli journalists attacked in Turkey

[IsraelTimes] An Israeli news crew reporting from Istanbul’s Taksim Square was attacked by several people angry over Israeli military actions in Gaza, Hadashot news says.

Hadashot reporter Ohad Hemo says he and producer Oded Bino were unharmed in the incident.

Hemo tells the broadcaster the incident began when a man noticed him speaking Hebrew and began yelling “murderer, murderer.” Other people surrounded the two, and one man began pushing them.

Hemo said they would report the incident to police.

Paris-area synagogue nixes event with chief rabbi ahead of anti-Israel protests

[IsraelTimes] A synagogue in a southern suburb of Paris canceled an event featuring the city’s chief rabbi.

The Yaguel Yaacov synagogue in Montrouge does not give a reason for nixing the event with Rabbi Michel Gugenheim, but it comes amid fears of anti-Semitic violence at anti-Israel protests in and around Paris.

The event planned for this evening was postponed abruptly hours before it was scheduled to begin. The Consistoire, French Jewry’s organization responsible for religious services, sent out an email to all of the recipients of its correspondence telling them the event had been postponed indefinitely.

Currently, an anti-Israel protest rally is planned for this evening at Republique Square, which is located about a mile away from the hotel where the CRIF event is scheduled to take place. Another rally is being organized in the northern suburb of Stains, by its mayor, Azzedine Taibi.

Israeli envoy to Luxembourg summoned for reprimand

[IsraelTimes] Israeli ambassador Simona Frankel has been summoned by Luxembourg for admonishment, Israel’s Foreign Ministry says.

On Tuesday, Frankel, who is also envoy to Belgium, was called in by Brussels for a dressing down over comments she made on a local radio station claiming all Gazans who had been killed in Monday’s violence had been terrorists.

It’s not immediately clear if Luxembourg has summoned Frankel for the same reason. The ministry says it will provide details later.

Top Sunni cleric in Lebanon urges jihad over US embassy move
Easy words for someone who does not have to live with the result.
[IsraelTimes] A senior Sunni holy man in Leb has called on all Moslems to wage jihad, or holy war, in support of the Paleostinians after the US decision to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Mohammed Rashid Kabbani, the former top Sunni religious authority, or mufti, in Leb, also said it is not sanctioned religiously for the Paleostinians or any Arab or Moslem country to "surrender, reconcile or make peace deals or give up any inch" of historic Paleostine.

Kabbani, who still has clout in the community, also said it is not acceptable for them to "recognize so-called Israel."

Kabbani’s comments appear to be a jab at US plans for a peace deal. They are reportedly supported by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...

IDF planes strike Hamas ‘terror targets’ in northern Gaza Strip
[IsraelTimes] Army says military base and weapons factory targeted in response to shots fired from across border that hit nearby Israeli homes in Sderot

Israel carried out a series of Arclight airstrikes on Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", "terror targets" in the northern Gazoo Strip overnight Wednesday-Thursday, the IDF said, in response to machine gun fire that struck several homes in the Israeli city of Sderot, apparently fired from across the border.

An army statement said the "terror targets belonging to Hamas" included four site on a Hamas military base and three at a weapons factory.

The strikes came in response to three separate cross-border exchanges earlier Wednesday, including shots said to have been fired from Gazoo that hit residential buildings in Sderot causing damage but no injuries, the army said.

According to the city of Sderot, the shots from Gazoo were aimed at an army aircraft that had been flying overhead, and the bullets struck the homes as they fell back down to earth.

"A short while ago, shots were fired at an [Israel Defense Forces] aircraft. Rounds hit a number of homes in Sderot," the city said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, shots were fired at Israeli soldiers stationed on the border, according to the army. There were no reports of injuries.

In response, an IDF tank fired on a Hamas military position in the northern Gazoo Strip, the military said.

A few hours after the machine gun fire hit the Sderot homes, Israeli troops on the border were again shot at, that time near southern Gazoo, the army said.

In response, an Israeli tank destroyed two Hamas observation posts in southern Gazoo, according to the IDF.

The bullets that hit Sderot, a city in southern Israel that has frequently been the site of rocket attacks over the past 20 years, were large caliber rounds that were fired from a heavy machine gun by members of a terrorist group in Gazoo, the IDF said.

The army would not immediately comment on whether the aircraft had been hit in the shooting attack.

"The IDF sees this as a serious event and holds Hamas responsible for everything that occurs in the Gazoo Strip," the army said.

Science & Technology
The Pentagon's New Artificial Intelligence Is Already Hunting Terrorists
[Defense One] Earlier this month at an undisclosed location in the Middle East, computers using special algorithms helped intelligence analysts identify objects in a video feed from a small ScanEagle drone over the battlefield.

A few days into the trials, the computer identified objects ‐ people, cars, types of building ‐ correctly about 60 percent of the time. Just over a week on the job ‐ and a handful of on-the-fly software updates later ‐ the machine’s accuracy improved to around 80 percent. Next month, when its creators send the technology back to war with more software and hardware updates, they believe it will become even more accurate.

It’s an early win for a small team of just 12 people who started working on the project in April. Over the next year, they plan to expand the project to help automate the analysis of video feeds coming from large drones ‐ and that’s just the beginning.

"What we’re setting the stage for is a future of human-machine teaming," said Air Force Lt. Gen. John N.T."Jack" Shanahan, director for defense intelligence for warfighter support, the Pentagon general who is overseeing the effort. Shanahan believes the concept will revolutionize the way the military fights.

"This is not machines taking over," he said. "This is not a technological solution to a technological problem. It’s an operational solution to an operational problem."

Indonesia hit by IS-claimed attack after deadly suicide bombings
[DAWN] Four men who attacked an Indonesian police headquarters with samurai swords were rubbed out on Wednesday and one officer also died, authorities said, days after a wave of deadly suicide kabooms claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group rocked the country.

The latest assault in Pekanbaru on the island of Sumatra ‐ also claimed by IS ‐ saw a group ram a minivan into a gate at the station and then attack officers with samurai swords, according to the country's national police.

It was not clear if Wednesday's incident was linked to the earlier attacks which saw two families who knew each other and belonged to the same religious study group stage suicide kabooms at churches and a cop shoppe in Surabaya, Indonesia's second biggest city.

The attacks have put Indonesia on edge as the world's biggest Moslem majority country starts the holy fasting month of Ramadan from Thursday.

This week's bloody violence is putting pressure on politicians to pass a stalled security law that would give police more power to take pre-emptive action against people suspected of planning terror attacks.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S., Gulf States Slap Sanctions on Nasrallah, Qassem, Hizbullah Officials
[AnNahar] The United States and the Arab Gulf countries on Wednesday imposed new sanctions targeting Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
Secretary-General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
, his deputy Sheikh Naim Qassem
... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies...
and other bigwigs of the Iran-backed Lebanese group.

"Today, the seven member nations of the Terrorist Financing and Targeting Center (TFTC) took significant actions to disrupt an Iranian-backed terrorist group by designating the big shotship of Lebanese Hizbullah," the U.S. Treasury said in a statement.

"The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in partnership with the Kingdom of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the co-chair of the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC), and the other TFTC member states ‐ the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ‐ designated members of Hizbullah’s Shura Council, the primary decision-making body of Hizbullah," the statement added.

It identified the targeted officials as Nasrallah, Qassem, Mohammed Yazbek, Hussein al- Khalil and Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyed.

In addition, TFTC member states also designated "key Hizbullah-affiliated individuals and entities," identifying them as Talal Hamiyeh, Ali Youssef Sharara, Spectrum Group, Hassan Ibrahimi, Maher Trading, Hashem Safieddine, Adham Tabaja, al-Inmaa Group, and al-Inmaa Engineering and Contracting, all of whom were previously designated by the U.S.

"The TFTC again demonstrated its great value to international security by disrupting Iran and Hizbullah’s destabilizing influence in the region. By targeting Hizbullah’s Shura Council, our nations collectively rejected the false distinction between a so-called 'Political Wing' and Hizbullah’s global terrorist plotting," said U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven T. Mnuchin.

"Under the dictates of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF), Secretary General and head of the Shura Council Hassan Nasrallah is prolonging the human suffering in Syria, fueling the violence in Iraq and Yemen, putting the Lebanese state and the Lebanese people at risk, and destabilizing the entire region," Mnuchin charged.

The U.S. Treasury noted that this is the second TFTC designation action since the center was announced on May 21, 2017.

It said that the TFTC is "a bold and historic effort to expand and strengthen the seven member states’ cooperation to counter the financing of terrorism," adding that the TFTC "facilitates coordinated disruptive actions, sharing of financial intelligence information, and member state capacity-building to target terrorist financing networks and related activities that pose national security threats to TFTC members."

The Treasury added that these designations "are in furtherance of the goal of addressing the totality of Iran's malign activities and regionally destabilizing behavior, including that of Hizbullah."
Al Ahram adds:
In a statement on its website, the U.S. Treasury said the group ISIS in the Greater Sahara was also sanctioned.

Russian forces unleash largest assault on last ISIS bastion in southern Damascus
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Aerospace Forces unleashed a massive assault over the southern part of Damascus this morning, targeting several terrorist positions belonging to the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. The joint Russian-Syrian attack primarily targeted the ISIS-held areas inside Hajar al-Aswad, Yarmouk Camp, and al-Tadamon.

At the same time, the Syrian Arab Army’s 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division, alongside Liwaa al-Quds
...the Jerusalem Brigade is a Paleostinian-Syrian pro-Government group that operates in Aleppo, formed in 2013. Syrian military begins moving troops from Latakia to Aleppo for upcoming offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian military’s offensive in northern Latakia has been postponed due to the recent developments in the northern part of Aleppo city.

According to a military source, the recent attacks by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
in Aleppo city has forced the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their Russian counterparts to beef up their numbers in the scenic provincial capital.

Furthermore, the Russian and Ottoman Turkish delegations at the Astana Peace Conference are currently discussing a plan to reopen the Aleppo-Gaziantep Highway, which is partially blocked by HTS in Kafr Hamra.

HTS has long been a problem in northwest Aleppo, as their forces continue to wreck havoc on the al-Zahra Association Quarter and its nearby districts in Aleppo city.
