Imran Khan vows to prioritize cordial ties with Afghanistan if succeeded in elections
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chairman of Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
has vowed to prioritize cordial relations with Afghanistan if his party gained a victory in the upcoming elections.

He reportedly made the remarks during a meeting with the deputy Afghan foreign minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai in his residence.

"PTI Chairman Imran Khan welcomed Deputy Foreign Minister Karzai to Pakistain and said that given his Afghanistan roots, cordial relations with Afghanistan would remain his top priority if he wins the next elections and becomes Prime Minister," according to a statement by the foreignministry.

He stressed the importance of smooth flow of people and goods for the interest of both people because the closure of trade routes in the past has badly affected Pakistain and specially the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Deputy Foreign Minister Karzai said that the ’Afghanistan-Pakistain Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS)’ finalized in a positive spirit aims to enhance trust and confidence between the two countries, the foreingn ministry said, adding that he emphasized that trade and economic ties should be depoliticized for the welfare of the peoples of both countries.

Deputy Foreign Minister Karzai also thanked the people of Pakistain for the generous hospitality extended to the Afghan refugees. He added that the dignified, voluntary and gradual return of the Afghan refugees was the Afghan Government’s top priority.

Deputy Foreign Minister Karzai further said "Both countries enjoy numerous commonalities. Cricket is an emerging and popular game in Afghanistan, while also popular in Pakistain. Through cricket, both nations can come together making tangible progress in building more confidence."

Yemenis abandon Ramazan traditions as they struggle to make ends meet
[DAWN] Marketplaces in Yemen's rebel-held capital Sanaa were stacked with produce on the eve of the holy month of Ramazan, but there were barely any customers with the means to buy.

Prices have spiked over the course of Yemen's conflict, which since 2015 has pitted a Saudi-led coalition against the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels and seen the country's largest port reduced to a wasteland under de facto blockade.

Millions of Yemenis are living on the edge of famine in what the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
calls the world's gravest humanitarian disaster.

During Ramazan, the breaking of the fast at sunset is a sacred tradition, which usually begins with dates.

But in the bustling Sanaa souk, date vendor Ali Saleh said there were few customers stopping by his stall, which was stacked high with the traditional sweet.

"Turnover is not very good because of the cut of paying salaries. Also people are not keen in having dates anymore because they focus on the basic needs. People are giving priority to the bare necessities," he told AFP.

Bosnia nabs suspect in killing of Hamas-linked engineer
[AA.TR] A Bosnian citizen was tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
on Wednesday on suspicion of being involved in the 2016 killing in Tunisia of a Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-linked aerospace engineer, according to state authorities.

The Bosnian citizen, sought by an international warrant, was arrested following an operation conducted by Bosnia's State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA).

He was taken into custody after questioning at SIPA headquarters, the agency said in a statement.

The suspect is thought to be involved in the liquidation of Mohammed Zouari, a Paleostinian drone expert and aircraft engineer.

This March, another Bosnian was arrested over alleged involvement in the murder.
That would be Alen Camdzic, 46, professional soldier and former policeman, who has been approved by the Croatian court for extradition to Tunisia.
Hamas described Zaouari, 49, as one of its members. On Dec. 15, 2016, Zouari was killed by button men -- who later managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...
-- outside his home in Sfax, Tunisia.

Paleostinian resistance movement Hamas accused Israel of assassinating Zouari, who, it later emerged, had been a member of the Ezzeddine al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing.

Last November, Hamas accused Israel's Mossad intelligence agency -- in cooperation with other "unidentified parties" -- of responsibility for the liquidation.

Mossad doesn't hire outside contractors - they've a very strong employees union. This is inter-Muslim.

UN 'collapsed' in face of Gaza killings: Turkish leader
[AA.TR] President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
on Wednesday criticized the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
for doing nothing in the face of Israeli brutality in the Gazoo Strip.

Speaking at a fast-breaking dinner (iftar) for deaders’ families in Ankara, Erdogan said: "The UN is finished, ended, collapsed. At this moment, I cannot reach the UN secretary general despite having a good friendship [with him]."

Erdogan underlined they would "never allow Jerusalem to be usurped by Israel".

"We will support the struggle of our brothers until the days when the Paleostinian lands -- which have long been occupied -- will have peace and security within the borders of the free Paleostinian state," he added.

The Ottoman Turkish president accused the international community of failing to deal with the Israeli attacks, adding that international bodies would have done much more if such killings had happened elsewhere.

"We will not remain silent against Israel even though the world closes its eyes to this oppression," he vowed.

Earlier, he announced a mass rally to be held on Friday in Istanbul’s Yenikapi Square to show solidarity with Paleostinians.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, as term president of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), called for an emergency OIC summit also on Friday in Istanbul to discuss joint action against Israel.

Erdogan stated the U.S. decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem had "made a mockery of" the Israeli government.

He vowed to continue support for Paleostinians "not only with our heart but also by every means available."

If the international community remains silent in the face of Israel's tyranny, the world will be dragged into a chaos ruled by thuggery, warned Erdogan.

Britain says U.S. sanctions on Iran have wide impact, make third-party trade more difficult
Ah hah! They found the pink elephant!
[AlAhram] Britannia said on Wednesday that U.S. sanctions against Iran have a clear impact on third-party countries and are making it difficult for firms to assess the risks of doing business there.

"It is clear that there is extraterritorial reach to some of these sanctions," said Rona Fairhead, a trade department minister in parliament's upper chamber, adding that Britannia was working with the United States to make sure trade ties could still exist.

She said firms always had to assess financial, commercial and legal risks when doing business, but that the U.S. sanctions were making that process more difficult.

US: Senate committee okays Gina Haspel for CIA helm
[AA.TR] The Senate intelligence committee recommended Gina Haspel to lead the CIA Wednesday despite concerns over her role in the agency's enhanced interrogation program, which has been roundly criticized as torture.

The 10-5 vote behind closed doors clears the way for Haspel to receive a confirmation vote of the full Senate as early as this week.

Haspel is expected to win confirmation when a vote occurs despite her role in supervising a CIA black site in Thailand where prisoners were tortured as well as concerns over her role in the destruction of videotaped recordings of brutal CIA interrogations.

During her confirmation hearing before the Senate intelligence committee last week, Haspel was grilled by Democrats over her record, and repeatedly asked if she thought torture was immoral. She did not say it is.

Senator John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump...
, a Republican who was a victim of torture during the Vietnam War, urged his colleagues to reject her nomination shortly after the hearing concluded.

"Ms. Haspel’s role in overseeing the use of torture by Americans is disturbing. Her refusal to acknowledge torture’s immorality is disqualifying," McCain said. "The Senate should exercise its duty of advice and consent and reject this nomination."

Nawaz puts Pakistani military and China on the spot
[ALMASDARNEWS] Ousted Pak prime minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
kicked up a storm when he earlier this month seemingly admitted that Pakistain had supported murderous Moslems who attacked multiple targets in Mumbai in 2008, killing 166 people.

Mr. Sharif’s admission, which he has since tried to walk back, put a finger on Pakistain’s controversial policy of selective support of hard boy groups at a sensitive time. Pakistain is gearing up for elections that would secure its third consecutive handover of civilian political power.

ATC summons last 2 Pakistani witnesses in Mumbai attacks case
[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad, resuming hearing of the 2008 Mumbai attacks case on Wednesday, has summoned the last two Pak prosecution witnesses and directed government officials to submit details regarding the availability of 27 Indian witnesses in the next hearing "so as to conclude the trial expeditiously".

The case is being tried in the ATC since 2009.

The Mumbai attacks, which took place in 2008, resurfaced in recent headlines, with progress in the trial coming under question, when ousted premier Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
in an interview on Saturday had asked: "Why can’t we complete the trial?"

The court today resumed hearing the case, with District Police Officer Dera Ghazi Khan Sohail Habib Tajik recording his statement in court before ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand.

The statements of two more Pak witnesses ─ Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General Wajid Zia and another official, Zahid Akhter ─ are still required.

The prosecutors today, however, sought adjournment due to engagements at the accountability courts. The court subsequently asked Akhter to appear in the next hearing, while Zia will be "summoned for prosecution evidence on May 23".

The prosecution completed the testimonies of 68 Pak witnesses last year.

The court today "observed with concern that since January 2016 upon the request of the prosecution, government functionaries sitting at the helm of affairs were directed repeatedly for producing 27 Indian nationals so as to give evidence in instant case, but till date no serious and final response has been given by the government".

India announces ceasefire in held Kashmir during Ramazan
[DAWN] India's home ministry says government troops in held Kashmire have been asked to stop counter-insurgency operations during the Moslem fasting month of Ramazan.

The ministry in a series of tweets on Wednesday said the decision was made so that Moslems can observe the holy month "in a peaceful environment".

Another tweet said Indian troops "reserve the right to retaliate if attacked or if essential to protect the lives of innocent people".

No separatist group fighting against Indian rule immediately issued any statement about the announcement.

Iraq
Iraqi PM conditions new term to ally with victorious rivals: MP
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has set the condition of maintaining his office before allying with rival blocs which came ahead in the recent parliamentary elections, a parliamentarian close to him said.

Almaalomah website quoted Jassem Mohammed Jaafar, an MP close to Abadi, saying that Abadi "fells optimistic regarding negotiations to form the next government", adding that the outgoing premier "realizes that he is the most pivotal factor if he joins any bloc".

According to Jaafar, none of the electoral lists can form the largest parliament bloc without joining [Abadi’s] al-Nasr, which had won 50 seats".

Abadi said in a recent press briefing he was open to cooperation with other electoral blocs.

Abadi came third as per preliminary results of the elections held last Saturday. First came Saeroon list, sponsored by Shia leader, Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
, a populist seeking to break away from Iranian influence and scathingly opposed to foreign military presence in Iraq. Second came al-Fatah, an alliance of former leaders of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces, the Shia-led troops that backed government forces campaign, under Abadi, to drive out Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
faceless myrmidons since 2014.

Jaafar said the outcome of negotiations will not be seen before the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which begins Thursday at most Moslem countries.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sky News Arabia said Abadi did not attend meetings in Baghdad held by Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander, Qassem Suleimani
, who reportedly arrived in the Iraqi capital to discuss the formation of the next government in a bid to ensure continued Iranian clout, especially with Sadr’s prominence in election having come as a surprise, according to observers.

According to the channel, the meetings were held two days earlier inside the heavily-fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, and was attended by former PM Nuri al-Maliki, an ardent Iran ally.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Guatemala inaugurates embassy in Jerusalem
[Ynet] Following in the footsteps of the US, Guatemala's President Jimmy Morales arrives in Israel to open the country's embassy in the capital; Netanyahu: 'Israel and Guatemala share so many goals and so many values. Even though we are seemingly far away, we're not really far away.'
The Paleostinians are angry, of course, but that doesn’t really matter.
"It's not a coincidence that Guatemala is opening its embassy in Jerusalem among the first, you were always among the first," Netanyhu said at the outset of his remarks at the ceremony.

"You were the second country to recognize Israel, but you had a very important role in this," he went on to say, explaining that "Your ambassador to the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
, Jorge Granados, was very active in lobbying the countries at the UN at the time to support the Partition Resolution, which was effectively the recognition of the Jewish state by the United Nations."

"In his honor, and in honor of Guatemala's efforts in those days, there's a Guatemala Street right here, about a kilometer from here, in Jerusalem. There's a Guatemala Street in many cities and many communities in Israel, because we remember our friends, and Guatemala is our friend‐then and now," he added.

Morales first announced his plans to move his country's embassy to Israel's capital in December.

Guatemala was one of only a handful of countries that backed US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s December decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and it was the first country besides the United States to set a date for moving its embassy there. Trump’s move reversed decades of US policy, upsetting the Arab world and Western allies.

Afterward, 128 countries defied Trump by backing a non-binding UN General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recognition of Jerusalem‐a resolution Washington then vetoed.

Prior to 1980, Guatemala and a dozen other countries maintained an embassy in Jerusalem. Israel’s passage in June 1980 of a law proclaiming Jerusalem its "indivisible and eternal capital" led to a UN Security Council resolution calling on Guatemala and several other countries to move their embassies to Tel Aviv, prompting their transfer.

Morales, a former comedian, has garnered widespread support from the conservative Christians in Guatemala, and has also found himself in hot water with the United Nations this year after one of the international organization's agencies attempted to impeach him for alleged corruption.

While Morales kept his seat, he has attempted to remove the chairman of the organization‐the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala‐that tried to remove him, and was widely criticized for it by the UN, US and European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
Paraguay has said it will move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by the end of May.

Hamas co-founder admits ‘we are deceiving the public’ about peaceful protests
Shhhhh! It’s a secret!
[IsraelTimes] Mahmoud al-Zahar says Gazoo border demonstrations are 'peaceful resistance bolstered by a military force and by security agencies'

A Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", leader said in an interview that the terror group was "deceiving the public" when it spoke of "peaceful resistance" a day before 60 people were killed in violent protests on the Gazoo border, according to a translation released by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) Wednesday.

Speaking to Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
’s Al Jazeera network on Sunday, Mahmoud al-Zahar, the co-founder of Hamas and a senior member of the terror group’s leadership, said that his group was using "clear terminological deception."

He was asked why Hamas and the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’s Fatah party, which dominates the Paleostinian Authority, could not agree on a united platform since "Hamas is employing the same peaceful resistance that has been advocated by Fatah since day one and for many years."

In reply al-Zahar said, "This is a clear terminological deception."

"This is not peaceful resistance. Has the option (of armed struggle) diminished? No. On the contrary, it is growing and developing. That’s clear," he said. "So when we talk about ’peaceful resistance,’ we are deceiving the public. This is a peaceful resistance bolstered by a military force and by security agencies, and enjoying tremendous popular support."

Al-Zahar also boasted in the interview of Hamas’s weaponry and military capabilities.

"When you are in possession of weapons that were able to withstand the occupation [Israel] in the wars of 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014... When you have weapons that are being wielded by men who were able to prevent the strongest army in the region from entering the Gazoo Strip for 51 days, and were able to capture or kill soldiers of that army ‐ is this really ’peaceful resistance’?" he asked.

The Hamas leader also slammed Fatah for what he indicated he considered to be its genuine peaceful resistance, claiming this was not what the Paleostinians wanted.

"As for (Fatah’s) ’peaceful resistance,’ it consists of rallies, demonstrations, protests, pleas and requests in order to improve the terms of the negotiations, or to enable talks with the Israeli enemy," he said. "This deception does not fool the Paleostinian public."

Haley blames Hamas for Gaza violence, walks out amid Palestinian UN envoy speech
[ALMASDARNEWS] The US ambassador left the Security Council chamber Tuesday at the start of a speech by Paleostinian ambassador Riyad Mansour, who sharply criticized Washington’s decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in defiance of the international body’s resolutions.

Haley defended Israeli troops’ actions and blamed Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and its Iranian backers for the violence on Gazoo’s border with Israel. "Let’s remember that the Hamas terrorist organization* has been inciting violence for years, long before the United States decided to move our embassy," she said.

"Make no mistake, Hamas is pleased with the results from yesterday," the ambassador added.

Praising Israeli "restraint" in the ongoing border violence, Haley noted "no country in this chamber would act with more restraint than Israel has. In fact the records of several countries here today suggest they would be much less restrained."

According to the ambassador, the US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem was the right thing to do, and "reflects the reality" of the city being Israel’s capital.

Haley also insisted that the embassy move has no impact on the prospects for an Israeli-Paleostinian peace settlement.

With Paleostinian UN envoy preparing his response, Haley demonstratively walked out of the chamber. During his half-hour long speech, ambassador Riyad Mansour accused Israel of "armed aggression" against the Paleostinian people, and accused the US of "trampling" international law in Monday’s decision.

"No country has the right to place its embassy on occupied land," Mansour said, adding that international agreements, including those created at the UN, demand that the status of Jerusalem be defined in the course of peace negotiations between Israel and Paleostine.

-based al-Jazeera TV on Wednesday evening, Yahya al-Senwar stressed that the March of Return -- peaceful Paleostinian rallies which have been taking place since March 30 on the borders with Israel -- has put the Paleostinian cause on the world’s agenda once again.

"We have recently sent clear messages [to Israel] that we will not hesitate to use military force if the blockade [since 2007] of Gazoo continues," he stressed.

Hamas and the Paleostinian resistance factions in the Gazoo Strip are trying to keep the marches peaceful, and if circumstances require a military option, that would happen later, he pledged.

"The strategic circumstances surrounding the Paleostinian issue are very complicated, especially with the U.S. administration, which fully adopts the Zionist position, and deals with the resistance of our people as terrorism," he added.

He stressed that the march of return "has also achieved many goals, most notably putting the case of the [Gazoo] embargo for discussion in international bodies and countries."

Israel says Hamas curbed Gaza protests after Egyptian warning
Probably not as much as 50 (admitted) of 62 deaders being Hamas operatives (Nice shooting Avi!) the remainder being sketchy or human shields
[Jpost] Gaza's dominant Islamist Hamas movement denied that it was under pressure from neighboring Egypt to scale back the six-week-old demonstrations, and said they would continue.
"Absolutely denied. Wait, is this mike on? We will fight ON!"
Palestinian protests on the Gaza-Israel border have dropped off over the past two days, amid reports that Egyptian officials intervened to restore calm.

Gaza's dominant Islamist Hamas movement denied that it was under pressure from neighboring Egypt to scale back the six-week-old demonstrations, and said they would continue, although fewer Palestinians were now gathering in protest tents.

Gaza medics said two Palestinians were shot dead during Tuesday's demonstrations along the 51 km (32 mile) border. On Monday, 60 were killed in a far greater turnout on the day that the United States relocated its Israel embassy to Jerusalem.

The bloodiest day for Palestinians in years has created a diplomatic crisis. The Palestinian Authority, which says Washington has abandoned its role as neutral arbiter in the 70-year-old conflict, withdrew its envoy from Washington. Turkey and Israel expelled each other's ambassadors.

On Wednesday the Palestinian Foreign Ministry announced the recall of its envoys in Romania, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic because those countries participated in the reception for the U.S. delegation that inaugurated the embassy.
Wow! How will those countries cope?
Pushing back against foreign censure of its army's actions, Israel has - with Washington's backing - accused Hamas of using civilians as cover for attacks across the frontier fence and to distract from Gaza's internal problems. Hamas denies this.
The Times of Israel adds:
Relating to Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
’s trip Sunday to Egypt, Intelligence Minister Israel Katz said Haniyeh was told by the Egyptian intelligence minister that "Egypt knows and possesses evidence" Hamas funded the festivities and sent people to riot on the border.
Whoops! Evidence is not good. It destroys implausible deniability.
"[Egypt] unequivocally warned him that if this continues, Israel will respond and take much harsher steps and Egypt will stand aside and not help," Katz told Israel Radio.
That could be amusing, though not for Hamas.

Human Rights Watch sues Israel to block director’s deportation
Interesting times...
[IsraelTimes] Human Rights Watch has asked an Israeli court to block the planned deportation of its local director.

Israel this month ordered Omar Shakir to leave the country, claiming he supports boycotts of Israel. The group says that neither it nor Shakir, a US citizen, support boycotts and accuses Israel of trying to muzzle criticism of its human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
record.

Wednesday’s lawsuit also accuses Israel of improperly enforcing an anti-boycott law. It says the law, used to prevent boycott activists from entering the country, does not apply to people who already are in the country with valid visas.

"This outcome is blood-curdling as it means the creation of databases on the political views, opinions and statements of civilians," the suit says.

Shakir has been ordered to leave by midnight next Monday.
